Good morning,

Just heading to the basement to do a KCM weight workout.

Valerie, about elderly people and broken bones etc, I also read somewhere that even though they make it through the surgery, having to be put under at this stage of their lives does something to them, trauma again...Not sure...I just know that it seems like once they have something like this happen to them, dementia starts to set in. I hope things get better with your Mom, or your brother and you can come up with some way to get her into a place where she can be monitored. It as to be so hard for you, trying to help from a distance.

Josie, I did see one YouTube video of a BB coach and another guy doing the 3rd workout in T25, she was apparently following a modifier, although they didn't show the actual workout, just the 2 people doing it. It still looks daunting to me!

Judy, very humid here too....I could not imagine working in the yard in this kind of heat/humidity. I agree that YardMax was your workout for yesterday! I did see that others posted about the board error issues, maybe they will pay attention to it....it is so annoying....and it seems like we are getting different errors...strange.

Going to my brother's for dinner tonight, we usually eat outside, but not sure with the weather today if that will be possible...

Hi to Lori, Garance,

Take care,

Good morning!

Walked in my home at 3pm and was really exhausted. I take a prescription for motion sickness when I fly and it makes me really tired. So needless to say no workout yesterday other than after unpacking chester had enough and demanded a walk. It was a shorter one than usual. It was so hot and I could see he was having a tough time. All that fur! So we went for a quick swim and came home. He was happy and I took a nap!

I am about to do the last STS dvd! Then I am going to try out a Turbo Fire HIIT workout. My cousin had this program and let me borrow to try out. Thought it would be fun to do a couple of these workouts. She also loaned me Charlene's Extreme program and a bunch of the biggest looser's Dvd featuring bob harper and jillian Michaels. Don't know anything about these two!

Deb...I really like Travel Fit and think it is a good on the go workout. I also would love Cathe to do another band workout.

Josie...glad you and your DH are enjoying T25. Can't wait to get mine on Tuesday!

Valerie...hope that young girl takes what happened seriously and finds out what caused her to pass out. That is really scary.

Judy...this was my first time doing STS. I was hesitant to buy due to price and wasn't sure if this was for me. Ended up buying at a huge savings from a coworker and ending up LOVING IT! My plan is to do some of Cathe's other Weight DVD's throughout the summer then STS in the fall.

Garance...sometimes chester and I walk in the rain! Crazy! He does not seem to mind. He goes for a swim anyways. I keep a huge towel next to the door so as soon as we come home he knows the routine of me wiping him down.

Have a great day! I am off tomorrow too! So glad I took this day too!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did STS disk 34 for ch, ba (68 min.). I'm on the final week. I will just finish legs on Tues. before I go in for another vein closure on Wed., so I guess it's good timing.

My mom broke her hip when she was 90 and was in rehab for about 6 weeks. I was worried because I had heard so many stories about broken hips in the elderly having very bad consequences. She was very positive though, and she remained very sharp, no signs whatsoever of dementia. I think she would still be alive and lively if it hadn't been for the sudden discovery of advanced colon cancer 2 years later. She never had a colonoscopy. DH is also lucky with his parents who are in their 80s but still very independent.

Deb, I love knitting any time of the year. It's very soothing for me.

Lori, I'm sure Max wouldn't mind walking in the rain, but I would not. It's so humid here I guess it might as well be raining. At least DH is getting all of his hay done before we go on vacation--a big load off his mind.

Josie, I am pretty sure if T25 is anything like Insanity it's not for me.

Wow, Valerie, that's really strange. Did she just faint and lose consciousness?

Hi to Judy!

Hi Ladies,

Getting ready to go get a mani-pedi, I got my hair cut yesterday so that I can be presentable for my retirement party :).

Lori, my DD is the one that works out with me, my DH will have nothing to do with my workouts. He plays tennis and that is it for him ;). I'm the amazon in the family.

I will be back later.

Josie

Did a 9 mile hike today, very nice but also kind of humid and no breeze until up fairly high. it's a nasty messy "trail" roots, rocks, mud, water..lots of water. still a nice destination but not a hike I'd take a beginner on. we've done it many times before and were able to relax at the pass gazing at peaks and clouds.
it was a strange experience trying to remember what I saw after seeing things change so quickly . I noticed her in line behind me with an older woman, drinking a big starbucks drink, one of the big creamy ones. not to be TOO judgemental... but she was pretty fat and I remember thinking that was not a good choice for her. I also noticed her color, and thought she looked unhealthy. sallow. she walked around through the next check out lane and was heading for the door when she just went straight down.... like a tree falling. no stumbling, off balance, trying to catch herself or anything. it made quite a noise, a smack when her face hit the floor. I was scared when I went to her that there would be blood and teeth all over, but she wasn't injured. her phone, drink, sunglasses went flying. I am sure she did not "trip" on anything. I'm glad she wasn't seriously hurt but hope she gets checked because you can get badly hurt falling like that and there is a reason. driving...what a disaster that could be. I wonder if she felt some event coming on , and was heading for the car and just didn't make it.

My mother had seriously bad feet her whole life with major bunions. they got so bad they distorted her feet terribly, but she refused to even get evaluated for corrective surgery. believe me, I tried. they don't resemble human feet anymore, the bunions became the front edge of her feet, pushing her toes out ward sideways. this interfered with her walking and consequently she became very inactive. If she'd had them fixed the whole scenario might be a lot different but she is 93 now. usually something is troublesome for most people of that age. her mother and sisters lived to 97-ish, brother died in his mid 70's. she also refused to have a colonoscopy ( she had a lot of bowel problems all her life) but has been lucky and so far no cancer.

so shuffling has been her mode of walking for a long time. but judy, you're right, old people for some reason just don't pick up their feet. I don't know if it's a fitness issue or something else. Lynda, DH's family has frequent kidney and colon cancer so he is diligent about getting checked.

Josie, DH and I are the "work out" people in our families. no one else does anything. I mean NOTHING. we have a niece who's following our example and does things with us but no one else.

these patterns of decline are pretty familiar to doctors who see them all the time.

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did a 90 minute indoor ride while watching part of the Tour de France. Then I got caught up on cleaning the condo and doing laundry. I also made steel cut oats for breakfast and some brown rice for the week. DH is going to grill later so we have some protein to go with the brown rice. I didn't realize how much I had fallen behind but I've been focusing on cleaning up FIL's house and I had been neglecting things here. It was really nice to stay home all day for a change, something I haven't done for a while. Later tonight I plan on doing Xtrain Legs and a core workout.
Tomorrow will be another day at FIL's. DH and I scheduled the next 3 Mondays off to work over there.

Deb-I hope the weather turned out ok for your dinner. We had some rain in the afternoon but it cleared up nicely around 3:00.

Lori-I was hesitant about STS too, but getting the deal of the day price helped me decide. I'm hoping DH and I can get the basement gym set up by fall. I may have been too optimistic to think it would be done sooner. I'm thinking October is probably when it will be ready. We actually have a section in the basement with interlocking foam flooring that DH put down a few years ago but now it is covered with electronics and old computers.

Lynda-good luck with your vein closure. How long does it take to heal from that?
So sorry about your mom. It sounds like she was really sharp. In FIL's case, he was declining mentally before he fell so it was probably going to happen anyway.

Josie-I was the only one in my family that worked out. DH and I are more active than anyone in his immediate family, but he does have some cousins that run marathons.

Valerie-FIL has some foot problems too, so maybe that is part of the problem. He does seem to not be able to pick up his feet at times and he is unsteady. He has a cane and a wheeled walker but he doesn't use them regularly.
I know that DH is working very hard to maintain his muscle mass and strength so he doesn't end up in the kind of shape FIL is in:( FIL was never active, I think he may have golfed when he was younger but he never worked out or did any kind of strength training.

Good night,

Judy

Good morning and Happy Monday ( NOT!)...

I did CC#4 ( 35 minutes) this morning...boy was it humid in the basement. Even with the dehumidifier on, I was sweating like crazy.

Lori, Yay for a day off at home where you can relax! Great job finishing STS...it's an accomplishment for sure.

Garance, kudos to you too for doing STS again!

Josie, I will be getting my pedi tomorrow, love it!

Valerie, lucky that you and your DH are on the same wavelength considering your family histories!

Judy, your FIL is very lucky to have a son and DIL that cares so much about his welfare. Do you do steel cut oats for the week?

Anyone here have experience with chia seeds? ( eating not planting LOL)? I bought some and tried them in my protein shake and it was awful. Next will be in greek yogurt...They are supposed to be very good for you.

Work, then dog class tonight..it will be sweltering in the training hall....no A/C...lots of fans ...

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Pure Spice (57 min.). Putting this one away now, since I've done it every week for 14 weeks.

One of Brad Pitt's lines in World War Z, when he is trying to persuade a family to come with him: "Movement is life." They decide to try to hole up in their apt. and end up dead. I think it's a good fitness line, too. Inertia may not be death, but you have to keep moving if you want to be able to move. It sounds like your mom was just plain stubborn, Valerie. Too bad when she seems to have pretty good genes for living a long life.

Chia seeds? Is that like chia pets? I'd be afraid of sprouting all over. No Deb, and I'm not even tempted. Love my Greek yoghurt though with some vanilla almond granola. Very humid here as well. Sounds like pedicure time all around. I had mine on Saturday--a very pretty shade of lavender.

Judy, vein closure is done with a laser so there's nothing to heal. Some bruising and a compression stocking and go light on the exercise, which is fine because we're about to leave for the beach.

Enjoy your party, Josie!

Good afternoon ladies!

This morning I started the 30 day LIS rotation. However, once I receive the Focus T25 workout tomorrow I will throw in a couple of these workouts on the days that I am doing weights.

This morning was Afterburn and I'll have to say I really did enjoyed the low impact. Been since before Xtrain that I have done this workout. Boy was I a sweaty mess too. Felt I got a really great workout.

I am planning to take Chester for a walk in a few minutes and we both may go for a swim it is that hot here!

Garance...funny that you did pure spice again. Doesn't seem like you have had it 14 weeks already. Good luck with your leg procedure. I am with you on chia seeds. I could only think of the chia pets too. Deb good luck with these!!!! .

World war z is on our list of movies to see. Last week we saw The Heat. Oh so funny. Loved Sandra bullock and Melissa McCarthy together. They need to do a sequel.

Judy...a 90 minute ride then xtrain legs and core at night! You have me beat!! Good for you. I am really looking forward to my own space. That may be a while now....looks like my son is staying in the basement even though he will be gone most of the time living with his dad. My husband broke his ankle in august and still suffering from the aftermath. He would prefer not to be going up and down stairs to his office and to our workout room...so his office will stay up here (this was going to be DS' bedroom) and all my workout stuff will be staying in the living room. Oh well...it is a very large room and nice and bright.

Josie...anymore T25 workouts? I am the only one that works out out in my family regularly. Siblings do nothing and never have, my son is sporadic. My DH does some but not consistent at all. Would love to have someone to workout with. My DS and I started P90x last year and he quit in the 2nd month. Loved working out with him.

Hi to Valerie!

Have a great night!

Hi Everyone,

I just finished Xtrain Chest, Back & Shoulders and 30 minutes of Ab Circuits. I am beat now, just want to eat and go to bed.

Deb-I haven't had Chia Seeds, but they are very popular at the health food store. Hope they are better in Greek Yogurt.

I make enough steel cut oats for 2 or 3 days at a time. DH loves them.

Lynda-Have a great time at the beach! I love the "Movement is Life" line!

Lori-Thanks! I've been doing harder workouts during the week since I seem to have lost the weekends for training. Just too many family things going on for me to get much training done then. Sorry about your husband's ankle :( I had a stress fracture in my fibula, just above my ankle, and it was quite painful.

Hi to Josie and Valerie!

Good night,

Judy

Hi Ladies,

The party was great and the food was delicious everyone enjoyed themselves. I slipped and twisted my foot while dancing in my high heels, so no workout for me :(. I have been icing it and took some ibuprofen. My 5 year old grandson told me that if I wanted to copy him doing break dancing that I could not wear high heels, he said that I needed to wear sneakers like him. He is so funny and loves to dance like grandma!

Judy, I love steel cut oats. I get mine from Trader Joe's frozen an it only takes 4 minutes t warm up. The box has 2 servings for $1.69.

Hi to Lori, Valerie, Deb and Garance!

Josie

Good morning,

Slept pretty well, except for getting up once....John got up with the dogs and I didn't even hear him....then a dog had to bark at something and that was it for me...ugh....still very tired.

Gararnce, wow 14 weeks of doing that one workout is amazing! Now I understand why you are pretty tired of it. You sure got your moneys worth! Chia seeds are supposed to be great for getting Omega 3's and lots of other good stuff...if you can figure out what to put them in. They have no flavor, just don't dissolve unless they are put in a liquid for a while, like overnight. Then they get like a jelly consistency.

Lori, I looked at the T25 workouts, they certainly look good, and nice and short...just no way I could do them...even with a modifier! I give you all lots of credit for doing anything with SeanT...or is it Shawn T?

Josie, LOL at your grandson's comments....he is one lucky little guy to have a grandmother that dances in heels and plays with him on the beach etc. Hope your ankle is better and it was not a full blown sprain.

Valerei, you never told us which dress (if any) you are keeping! We are in suspense..LOL

Judy, do you make the steel cut oats in the crockpot? I heard that you can do that overnight and they are ready in the Am for breakfast...never tried it though.

Work, then hair color and pedi right afterwards....not much else going on here....

Take care,

I think they fixed whatever was giving me all those errors on the site!!! I didn't get even one this morning while moving around on it! YAY!

Lynda, my mother was not too smart. since I was a kid I figured out that to be successful, I'd think about what my mother did, and then do the opposite. she was told (when she was very young) that she should not have bunion surgery because the bunion was the only thing "stabilizing her feet". she never listened to anyone else after that. I'd try to tell her this "expert opinion", which might have been fine in its time, came from someone who attended medical school around WWI (before even antibiotics) and that she needed a more current opinion. procedures, technology had changed, and she should AT LEAST listen to opinions of current orthopedic surgeons. If they agreed with the first doc, then so be it. but she shut her mind to anything she didn't want to hear and suffered with painful feet that got worse and worse. she spent most of her life in uncomfortable shoes and walked less and less. it was too bad, but that was her approach to everything so I quit nagging long ago.

chia seeds? I'm with Lynda on that one, chia pets are all I remember. I think you can hide many substances in a bowl of oatmeal though, and that's what I'd try if I was determined. I buy quick cooking steel cut oats at Costco ( Bob's Red Mill brand) that cook in about 5 -8 minutes. depends on how soft you want them. I used to soak them overnight, but these don't need that. DH likes them. I prefer plain old rolled oats.

we did another street ride yesterday, took a ferry to a small island near here with just the bikes and rode around with almost no traffic for a couple hours. the island is pretty hilly though, so it was WAY more work than flat land rides. still, fun and different. if you don't drive on with a car the fare is only $7.50 round trip for two people. we will try some more rides like this.

Deb, I haven't decided on the dresses. the sandals are Keen "rose" sandals. I'll see if I can stick in a link. just got them, and wanted to see that they looked OK with the dresses. less chunky than a lot of the sporty ones. I'll decide Friday morning, and send back the others. pretty much down to #1 or #4. http://www.zappos.com/keen-rose-sandal?zfcTest=fcl:0

Josie that is a reason I never wear heels. my ankles are so flexible I twist them easily so keep away from heels or even platform shoes. always been an issue for me. they are so flexible I don't think I could break one( sorry about your DH Lori) but sprains used to be a regular happening.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did STS disk 40 for legs: It's supposed to be 68 min., but I fast-forwarded it down to about 55. I also took Max for a nice walk--about 45 min. down and then uphill.

Deb, not sure I could eat something like that with a jelly consistency. Yeah, when I buy a new DVD, I try to get enough workouts in so that it comes close to a dollar a workout. If I can tell that I won't, I sell it pronto, like I did with CF, TTM, and Tabatacise.

Josie, too bad about your ankle. I hope it doesn't slow you down for long. Were your difficult colleagues more fun at a party than in the office?

Lori, The Heat is next on my list of must-sees. Oh, and if you haven't seen Star Trek into Darkness, it's really good. I work out in my living room, too, but that's because we have a big addition and don't use this room very much.

Valerie, I can see why you gave up on your mom. And it's probably lucky that you are not too close. I would hate listening to the same litany of complaints on a regular basis if the complainer refused to think that maybe, just maybe, there might be a solution to the problem. Those sandals look very comfy.

Judy, are chia seeds an alternative to fish oil capsules? What else is popular at the health food store? Dr. Oz is always recommending something.

Hi Ladies,

I'm going to try and do a spin workout and see if it does not affect my ankle. It feels better today.

Garance, I only invited a few of my co-workers it was mostly family and old friends.

I will ve back later.

Josie

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did a 2.5 mile walk and tonight I did Xtrain Burn Sets Bi's & Tri's and Core 1. I am starting to make some progress with the core workouts. I can do almost everything on Core 1 without stopping. My arms seem to be getting stronger too.

Deb-I make steel cut oats on the stove, I've never tried using a crock pot. Sounds like a great idea though!

The site does seem to be working much better now. I'm not getting the errors any more.

Lynda-Chia seeds are used as an Omega 3 supplement so could be an alternative to fish oil capsules. They are also high in fiber and protein. The Dr. Oz products are very popular at our store. Green Coffee Bean Extract, Raspberry Ketones, 7 Keto, Red Palm Oil, SafSlim, Garcinia, Coconut Oil, anything made by Garden of Life, those are just a few of the products that are big sellers right now. Here is the store's website:

Shop for Vitamins, Supplements, Natural Foods and more at The Better Health Store

Valerie- I love those sandals!

Hi to Josie & Lori!

Judy

Good morning,

Slept in a bit, after John got up with the dogs at 4:11...

Valerie, I feel sorry for your Mom...listening to opinions that destroyed her feet and walking...and she should have tried someone's else's opinion...but I know how stubbord some people can be. Thanks for reminding me about using oatmeal for the chia seeds...that will be another thing I try them with. I have 2 pair of Keens....they are like sneakers...but have openings because they are water shoes. I use them for agility so I don't have to wear socks. They're great.

Garance, when you let the seeds dissolve, it's in something else and supposedly they disappear, so you don't taste/feel the consistency. I have this recipe I am giong to try making all natural jam from fruit and these...you put them in a cup of fruit like rasberries or whatever that you have put through a food processor, let sit in fridge overnight, and the gel consistency mixes with the fruit for a jam/jelly.....we'll see. Yes, they are another way to get Omega 3's...and lots of other vitamins etc..

Judy, they must have fixed the site!! YES! It is so much better now. I'm glad I don't work in a store like yours....I would be trying evreything....

Hi to Josie, & Lori,
Work, agility class....nothing much else...
picklewave.gif

another way for chia seeds might be in a smoothie if you drink those. blasted up in a blender with fresh fruit and milk they might disappear, and the gel texture might be an advantage there. I need to use bran flakes daily so have a variety of ways of getting extra fiber into things and oatmeal and smoothies work better than anything else.

Did a 25 mile ride yesterday, but the heat was bothering me more than usual. I've been drinking a lot of water but maybe not enough.

I don't know about my mother sometimes...we are so different. she judges everyone and everything, especially women, on appearance alone. still does. such a narrow and judgmental way to look at the world. She not too long ago asked me what I thought of President Obama, so I made a few comments on his policies but she then proceeded to tell me she doesn't like Michelle Obama because she has a "lantern jaw". HUH?? that's all you can say about the first lady? she still gets all her news from tabloid rags. she actually subscribes to several of them like enquirer and Star.

I love Keens. I am getting a bit of a bunion problem on my left foot (and may need surgery eventually ) Keens and most sporty shoes are comfortable and don't cause any friction. I don't like sandals that don't cover that area. also they are comfy without socks or panty hose. ...not wearing panty hose.
