Pentagenarians & Beyond" W/B 7/7

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

Had my vein closure this morning. My leg feels fine with a compression stocking. Weather permitting, I will take Max for a walk tonight and finish off the last disk of STS tomorrow. Yippee!

Well, I may look into those chia seeds after all. My Dr. told me that unless I was getting my fish capsules from wild salmon, which would cost, he said, about 50 dollars a month, I was just getting a lot of mercury, so I quit taking them a couple years ago. I still have salmon occasionally, although the wild good salmon is 19.99 a lb. here in MA.

Judy, I have heard good things about coconut oil. Do you have any preferences among all those products?

Valerie, does your mom make harsh judgments of her own appearance? As my mom would say, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Tonight, the first pesto of summer. Yum!!

Good afternoon ladies!

Been extremely busy at work since coming back yesterday. Last night the three of us went for a swim (me, DH and DS) at the Inn which is a mile from our home. For cheap money we buy a pool pass which allows us to use the pool all summer long. So this was my exercise for yesterday. Just as well because boy did I have DOMS yesterday from my Afterburn workout on Sunday. I did not expect to have them to the extent I did.

This morning I did the first T25 workout and really liked it. Love that it is under 30minutes. For early morning workouts this will work well for me.

Tonight I plan on a Core workout then walk Chester.

Judy...I would be the same as Deb. I would spend my entire pay on trying everything in your store. I am doing core tonight because you have inspired me to do so. :)

Valerie! You are amazing with your rides. Incredible the distance you do. I have never heard of Keen's. I will look them up.

Josie...really liked my first workout with T25. I find that I did not feel like I am about to keel over and die like I do with Insanity. Perhaps because of the shorter time. I did feel no dread factor which is great. Some of the Insanity ones feel like they go forever. Hope your ankle is doing well.

I have never had steel cut oats. I have seen the frozen ones at Trader Joes and have been meaning to buy them. Think I will next time to try them out.

Garance...Star trek is on my list!!! Too funny. Hope all goes well on Thursday for your leg.

Deb glad you slept a little better! :)

Have a great afternoon!

I must have posted right after you Garance. Glad all went well with your leg procedure. For some reason thought it was tomorrow.

Lynda, glad the leg procedure went well. should be lovely to be all done with that!

My mother was harsh on herself too but she was absolutely heartless and mean on women, especially vicious those who weren't in the public eye for being beautiful, like politicians, reporters, singers. If someone is running for political office, I expect they'll be appropriately dressed, well groomed.... but I don't "get" criticizing them on basis of their looks. Elizabeth Taylor..... she thought she was beautiful, and I'm not sure anyone else ever qualified. She doesn't rip men apart, just women. She did not spare my sister and me either.

Lori, you'll know Keens. there are even plenty of keen knock-offs. they had the raised rubber toe to protect the front of your foot. the original ones were fabric. My first pair I bought as a water shoe to ford rivers when hiking. Now I wear them because they're so comfy.

Hi Everyone,

Tonight I tried Xtrain Cardio Leg Blast. I was able to do most of the moves, but not everything. Great workout, I really liked it!

Deb-When I first started working there I wanted to try everything  Fortunately we get samples from vendors and also discounts so I've been able to try all kinds of things out. I haven't tried Chia seeds yet, just not sure they would agree with me. Flax seeds don't and I'm afraid Chia would be similar.

Valerie-great job on all the biking you've been doing! I hope DH and I can get out some more this summer.

Lynda-I'm glad you are done with your vein closure and can still workout. I take Barleans fish oil and they say it is mercury free. It's not too expensive either. I love salmon too, and prefer to get my fish oil that way when I can. The products that I like to use now include Alpha Lipoic Acid,Vitamin D, Chromium, MSM & Glucosamine, Fish Oil, CoQ10 and I usually take a probiotic.

As for the supplements promoted by Dr. Oz-they are huge sellers, we have an entire section for "Dr. Oz" products, but they are also quite expensive, and we don't get samples :( Most of the things he recommends are good, but they aren't new, they are just popular now because he is talking about them.

Lori-I would have come close to spending all my pay at the store if it wasn't for getting samples of products  I really got carried away when I first started working there, I wanted to try everything.

Hi to Josie!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did disk STS 36 for sh, bis, tris--supposed to be 67 min., but I did some ff and brought it down to 60. I did 32.5 lbs on my barbell for shoulders and bis, 12 lbs. for tris on the step; 10 lbs. for shoulders with straight arms, 15 lbs. for single overhead tris, 15 lbs for bis on the ball; finally, 12lbs for delts, 15 lbs for concentration curls, and 12 lbs. for crossbody kickbacks.

Off to Avalon tomorrow and I only plan on walking the beach every day and doing some ocean bobbing. I think I deserve a week off.

Thanks, Judy! I will look up the Barlean fish oil. CoQ10 is rather expensive, isn't it? I take vitamin D, and Osteo-biflex, C, a B complex, biotin, selenium, viviscal, and pine bark extract.

Geez, Valerie, Elizabeth Taylor sets the bar pretty high, although in her later years, I thought she looked pretty unhealthy. You had one tough mom.

Hi to Deb, Josie, and Lori!

I guess I'm not very 'supplemented" comparatively speaking. I take a calcium /vit d and glucosamine. that's it. during winter I take more D. my diet is decent but no oily fish like salmon. I'd eat it, but DH runs screaming at the very mention of salmon. I knew about the mercury so just never added anything oils.

Yeah, everyone else was a "dog" compared to Elizabeth taylor until she got older and didn't look so great anymore. there was some joke about everyone trying to look like Elizabeth taylor and ( someone, fill in blank) and then, 30 years later, everyone trying NOT to look like them....

I think my mother was pretty insecure and not very happy. her marriage was not good, both parties to blame with plenty of blame to go around. she really took out all those appearance related issues on everyone in sight, my sister and I catching both barrels.

Impressive weights Lynda. yes, you deserve a week off. Congrats on finishing STS!

Went to yoga this morning, came home and DH had the bikes ready so we rode a fast 28 miles before he left for work. He can't out ride me anymore.... no matter how hard he tries I'm right there! it was cooler and cloudy this morning and I perform better than when warm and sunny. clouds burned off and sunny now.

Lori, I'm always surprised at how I don't have 'cross over" fitness. I can ride like a maniac day after day, but if I hike or do a weight workout instead, I'll get sore. and vice versa. you would think "leg exercise is leg exercise", but for me, it's not. the soreness doesn't last very long compared to the soreness you get if you've been sitting around for weeks .... but still sore.

Good evening ladies!

I do not have the LIS low impact challenge so I sub'd low impact circuit (step only) in its place followed by 100 rep bicep challenge. Been forever since I did this and now remember I like step but really did not care for this dvd. The one thing I hate in step workouts is always walking around the step or taking a few steps back. Never liked this and never will. Seemed like there was a ton of it in this workout.

So if any of you ladies would like this workout...email me your address and I will mail it to you..no charge. Would be glad to have someone enjoy it! It did get 5 stars on collage.

Tonight when I came home chester demanded a walk so we went 3 miles. He swam, I did not!

Garance, congrats on finishing STS! I am sorry to have it end. I am going to plan to do STS total body once a week until I start STS again in the fall. Maybe you'll join me! Congrats on the weights used. I am really similar. Glad leg procedure is behind you.

Judy...I love cardio leg blast. This is very similar to STS plyo legs.

Here is another Warrior Dash photo. Just received it today so I thought I'd share. And yes I could feel the fire as I was jumping over. Very hot!!!

Hi Josie and Deb!

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did a jog/walk workout. I did 6.15 miles in about 90 minutes. I used my "hilly" route too. Probably not the best thing to do the morning after doing Cardio Leg Blast :eek:. My legs are pretty sore right now. Thank goodness I have a massage scheduled for tomorrow! I'm going to need it.

Lynda-it sounds like you have a good vitamin regimen going. CoQ10 is pricey. It's so expensive at my store that even with my discount I won't touch it. I get mine at Costco, it's Qunol Mega CoQ10, $28.99 for 120, which is the best deal I can find.

Valerie-I'm sorry you had to deal with the things you did growing up. That must have been very difficult for you.

Lori-I think I'll need to stay with basic step for awhile, otherwise I would take you up on your offer of low impact circuit. I looked it up and it looks like something I'm not quite ready for. Thanks for the photo! That Warrior Dash is intense!

Hi to Deb & Josie,

Judy

Happy Friday!

This day cannot go fast enough for me. A weekend with no committments to look forward to. I was in Hamilton Ontario yesterday, had to leave early so I didn't get a chance to drop by here before leaving.

Valerie, I tried the chia seeds in a protein shake in the blender but that didn't work, They don't dissolve unless they are in liquid for a long time. I haven't tried the yogurt yet, probably later today. Yes, the Keens are great for problem feet, I have a bunion and they don't bother it at all. Here is another kind of sandal you may like, my assistant and other women in the office have foot issues and they swear by these...http://www.6pm.com/orthaheel....my assistant has Gout and one foot swells so much she can't get a sandal on it, except for these, as there are styles that have an adjustable strap...some are very pretty and dressy too. This site has some on sale, they also have their own web site. May be some cute ones for the wedding.

Garance, glad the procedure went well and have a great vacation!

Lori, Love the new pic put it in your signature line! never had steel cut oats? they are good, but take longer to cook. I don't buy them for home, but have had when having breakfast in a hotel.

Judy, yes, the chia may not agree with you if you can't do flax seeds. When I take my supplements I take: multi, fish oil, B-complex, Co-Q 10, calcium, Move Free, Vit D, I think that's it...

Hi Josie!

Gptta run, get ready for work.....

Work, plan to relax this evening, lots of yard work this weekend, it's supposed to be less humid and no rain....

I know a couple people who have trouble with flax seeds, GI problems. not sure if it's an allergy or some kind of sensitivity. it's a problem finding whole grain breads right now that don't have flax or flax seed in them. I never knew what chia was so I guess I'm off to google them.

Deb, I don't have a significant bunion problem yet but the potential is there, left more than right. I've never worn high heels much but the genetics are what they are. I try not to aggravate the joint with anything that rubs or pinches. keens are great except for loose dirt or gravel when I get rocks in them. I do NOT like to look down at my feet in "outline" so prefer sandals that are strappy and more closed rather than open. I could not get that link to work, got a 404 message.

I am doing an upper body workout today, and then we are gone for a few days. first visiting aunt in assisted living, and then SIL & BIL on the Oregon coast. Hopefully we'll be able to go out in their boat and maybe cruise a river. I think the beach there is really boring. I've never been much of a beach enthusiast, and this is too populated and built up to be interesting.

Happy Friday,

My foot is still sore, but getting better. I tried spinning, but it hurt, so I decided to give myself a break until Monday. I don't have a problem with flax sees an add them to some juice and drink it. I only take a multi- vitamin and vitamin D.

Garance, have a great vacation!

Valerie, I don't have bunions after all the years of wearing heels ;)

Hi to Lori, Judy and Deb!

Josie

Good evening all!

No workout this morning. Needed to leave for an early morning meeting. I did manage to do 100 rep bicep and tri challenge. Then tonight it was Speed 1.0 of the T25 workouts.

Deb...never thought to use the fire picture as my signature! I think I will do this.

Josie..so sorry about your foot. Yes rest up and enjoy the break.

Valerie..I am like you. Bunion is not a problem but could be at some pint. Mine is on the right. Very small but I do the same thing, my shoes never rub or never tight once I noticed the bunion. So far so good and it has not gotten any bigger.

I take absolutely no vitamins. And I mean NOTHING! I have type 2 diabetes. Have had it since about 40. Runs in the family. I take medicine twice a day and these are the only pills I take. I eat a well balance diet and limit carbs when necessary of course. Sometimes I really make an effort to take different vitamins and it lasts for a week and then I fall off the wagon. I love the idea of it I just never stick to it. I buy a lot of vitamins/supplements but they all end up expiring.

Have a great night ladies!

Happy Weekend All!

It's going to be nice weather this weekend, hopefully not too humid.

Valerie, Have a good trip....the link didn't work for me either :( Anyway, they are great sandals, especially if you have anything wrong with your feet.

Josie, you are really lucky if you have worn heels all your life, that usually means foot problems...hope you foot is better today.

Lori, funny how we are talking about bunions now....I feel so old! I have one on my left foot, it doesn't bother me pain wise, but looks awful ( to me anyway) and one starting on my right foot....good for you for watching your diet...I am about the same when it comes to supplements. I take them faithfully for a while, then just abruptly stop for a while.....

Agility class today, then whatever I can get done around here...

Take care,

Just a quick note to say have a great weekend! Will be busy with family things so might not be able to check in for a couple of days.

Judy

Good morning!

I have been so lazy this morning! Been up since 6am and here it is 10:15am and I am still sitting on the couch.

I have decided not do the LIS rotation because obviously it is not motivating me to workout out! On Monday I am starting with Cathe's April'10 rotation which incorporates some of STS and Gym Style. I think I will enjoy this. Today though I am planning to do upper body tri sets and Tabatacise since it has been forever since I have done this. Then walk chester.

Later it is errands and wash clothes and house max!!! (Love this saying). This is pretty much my weekend.

Have a great weekend all!
