Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 7/26

We are at bigger risk in MT especially driving in very early am and dusk when deer tend to move around more. we have seen plenty of road kills, had too many close calls. I've seen the hind feet of a deer crossing in front of the car in front of us. if it had been hit most likely would have been tossed and hit our windshield. but it didn't!. cathy, same way when someone going opposite direction hits a deer ...you could be the unlucky recipient. elk are bugger and heavier. so many elk in MT especially in cooler weather. I always wonder how many are clipped by vehicles and slightly injured in addition to the road kills. cathy I would not have believed what I saw the deer do but it was all so fast I didn't have time to do much more than say "oh no". saw a glimpse of it coming in the side mirror.
Carolyn we don't get HBO. we have prime, hulu, netflix and netflix disks. the selection on disk is not what it used to be with much more streaming now.

I am getting here late and need to go to bed since I have a washing machine coming between 7 and 1. This morning I did Raw Boxing and Sculpting Outdoors and used a 10# dumbbell, 35 minutes, heart rate 119/150, 158 calories, 2,997 steps. I then did Raw Your Moves #1, 43 minutes, 171 calories, heart rate 115/157, 2,298 steps. Total time was 78 minutes, 329 calorie, 5,295 steps. I got 11,150 today. I love both of these workouts. The music is fun in Your Moves 1. Kelly has a new boxing one coming up using the egg weights she was showing off. I will just use light dumbbells. I think it is next week she is starting having a live class once a week in the mornings and the 9th will be the online road trip day. It is a Sunday so I will be at church and probably out to lunch. I will have to do the workouts later after she puts them up. I had to go grocery shopping today. Trying to stock up on things for my 6 year old grandson and 12 year granddaughter since they will be here some days this month and maybe at the first of the school year. My daughter is going back for training next week.

Judy, I checked out my external drive with the downloads when Lori, was always talking about hers. It works pretty well and all of my Cathe downloads I have purchased are on it. There is a usb port on the front of my blu ray player, but I am not sure what that is meant for. My usb port is along the side edge of the back of my tv. Yes, it was rough for the family when that happened to my brother. It has been hard for him over the years. And lots of cruel mean spirited kids in school.

Valerie, my 8's and 10's are round chrome. I prefer to hold them crossed each other if I have to hold both together. The problem with the round dumbbells is when you sit them down on the bench they roll off.

Cathy we have had Uverse twice and like most stuff it is hard to get a human being to talk to you when it isn't working right. The easiest thing to do is to upgrade you service with just a couple of clicks, but to downgrade and fix it is a whole different thing. My Dad hit a moose once and totaled his pick up truck. My granddaughter hit a wild hog when she was driving at night a couple of years ago. They live out in the country and it is really dark without street lights. She love animals and cried when she hit it. I guess there was a whole group of them came up after she hit it. She had to get some repairs done on her little VW. My daughter that lives on 15 acres in the country started out with Hughes satellite at first. They were paying out so much money and avoided streaming. They just used it for school work when necessary and necessities. They were happy when At&t finally got close enough for them to have it. They still get drop outs though and I lose my daughter on her phone when we are talking when she hits a certain area. When she is suddenly gone, I just hang up.

Carolyn, I have kind of been thinking about X 10 and Tabatacise lately. I have not done either in a long time. It is amazing the progress we make and we do not realize it as much till we go back to something that we remember was really hard to do.

Good morning ladies!!!

popping on to say hello and thinking of you all! Workouts have been great. I really have been doing a lot of Perspirology. I love her sculpt sessions. My future DIL the other day asked what I have been doing as she said I looked amazing!! Lol! Love her!

The kids officially moved in on wednesday. Our house is a mess!!! Doing the best we can to stay organized. Between us moving out, kids moving in and did I mention my son decided to take carpet out of bedroom and have wood floor installed!! it was insane!! Well only a few more weeks and we will be all moved.

We have been worried about GiGi and how she will handle the long ride. We have been taking her for daily rides each day to get her accustomed to being in the car, but she is not liking the long rides. :(

I went thru and read this week’s posts! yeah finally had a moment to do so!!

Slide and Glide is certainly a blast from the past! I remember liking it when it first came out. I think I have it somewhere..need to look out of curiosity!

I love that Cathe sells her live downloads and I have bought a couple of her FT workouts. Judy...FT Inferno is one that I bought! :)

Yes...all my downloads are stored on an external hard drive, plus I have a back up external drive. Can never be too safe. I would cry if I lost my workouts plus my custom workouts. I have 8TB hard drives...holds a gazillion workouts. Valerie - I plug a smaller external drive directly into my tv thru usb as Judy mentions. works great. My port is way in the back of the tv so I have an extension cable that plugs into the back of the TV and extends out to the front so I can easily change drives or just add workouts to the drive.

I have never been a fan of Kale. My mom frequently made kale soup and everyone loved it. I would just pluck out the potatoes and Linguica and would be very happy. One year we planted Kale on her gravesite to be silly. We knew she appreciated it! Lol!

Have a great day all! Will be more consistent once my life is normal....omg normal?? Not even sure I know what that is anymore!!!

No workout, I am sitting here waiting for the new washing machine to arrive. Gertie is upstairs waiting for me to workout. She has our routine schedules down and gets confused when things change, which seems to happen more often lately.

Lori, it is good to hear from you and know how things are going with you. Moving and remodeling sounds like it would leave the house in somewhat of chaos. It is nice that you don't have to worry about realtors and selling your house. I would much rather the chaos than having strangers tromping through my house and me and the dog having to leave. Plus having to have the house in perfect order all of the time.
I am sure you will be happy and things much more relaxed once the move is over and you are settled. Gertie has had a few long trips. One was not a good one as she got sick and we stayed several days in a cabin. Bathing her at the cabin outdoors with a water hose was not an easy feat either. That was when she was young and we were trying to find the right food for her though. She likes to go for a ride though. She just jumps right in. Maybe if you keep it up Gigi will get to like it better in the next few weeks. Would she ride better if she were in her crate? Or do you have a crate.
I have not checked out Perspirology. What a funny name:)

Lori great to hear about your adventure! yes... I have a usb on the back of my tv but not easy to reach. We pulled the tv out yesterday and looked We will need an extension cable to connect to it. Good to know that is what you use too. Judy thanks again for mentioning it.
With pets for many the only time they drive, they go to the vet. No wonder they are unhappy.
A living kale grave marker! What an idea! I am trying kale salad today. massaged my kale and will let it wait in fridge. Until lunch. I love it cooked like in soup but not as happy with salads.
Ran on treadmill for 20 min and did 20 min of hard strikes yesterday. Never did that one before. And some push ups

This morning I did Fit Split Pull Day. My time was 50 minutes with 219 calories burned. Average heart rate was 112 and maximum heart rate was 136.

Lori, I’m so glad that you popped in this morning. Your house is full and busy right now, but things will settle down before you know it. Perspirology is a strange name, as Diane Sue mentioned. Maybe they anticipated that the workouts will really make you perspire :).

Diane Sue, nice job with Raw Boxing and Sculpting and Raw Your Moves. It’s no fun waiting around for an appliance delivery. You can’t really start anything since you don’t know when they will arrive. Hopefully it will be soon.

Valerie, great job with running on the treadmill, Hard Strikes, and pushups. Perry Mason probably won’t be on Netflix and other streaming services until this first season ends.

Hello to Deb, Judy, Christina, and Cathy.

Carolyn thanks for the suggestion anyway. we keep a list of things we will potentially watch because the release of titles is not predictable. I wrote down perry mason. when it shows up streaming, I'll recognize it. especially with new material not being produced right now, you sure cant guess the schedule.

diane sue what kind of washer are you getting? its possible to go crazy with new features on both washer/dryer these days. I'm pleased with my new ones. what a washer calls "warm water" is a whole lot cooler than I thought it was. just noticed that.

ran a mile on the treadmill again. I'm being very cautious. tentative really. I haven't run in a long time. so far nothing sore and I've increased my speed. I never was fast but ran regularly and at a steady pace. Im mostly concerned about impact on knees, ankles, feet. I want to harden things up gradually. I had a knee issue a few years ago, dont want to revisit that. no intention of running long distances. then did a premix for stacked upper body. we are planning on a ride this morning, deciding which one.

we rode a shorter ride on the local bike trail because we were early. about 15 miles. an hour and fifteen min.

Today I did Step Sync, combos 2 and 3, for 38 minutes and 295 calories burned. My average heart rate was 134 and maximum heart rate was 157. I’m still learning combo 3, but I did pretty good today. It gets easier each time that I do it.

Valerie, it’s great that you are getting back to running.

Waving hello to all and wishing you a wonderful afternoon.

Hi all,

Workouts very sporadic this week. The new Mobility workouts look interesting. I am not sure what the difference is between mobility vs yoga, but am hoping that they different. I bought a new iPad this week, have been working on getting used to the changes. Mine was very old, had no storage left, and would not let me use my email, or go to web sites any longer. It was time!

Cathy, glad that Stretch Max helps you when you are low on energy. Good job on Turbo Barre and Lite Stacked sets. We use Verizon too and have always had good customer service.

Valerie, nice work on the treadmill! Hitting a deer has to be very scary. (have never done that). A friend of mine had a deer jump out of the ditch on the side of the highway right into the side of her car. This is a 65 mile zone. The car was totaled. She had her 3 dogs crated in the car with her. Thankfully no one was hurt. If your TV is only 2 years old, it should have a USB port. Mine has one and its about 8 years old.

Carolyn, good job on Fit Split workouts..., STep Synch etc. You are right....it seems like Fit Split is hardly ever mentioned...I had forgotten about that series too. That's great that you have a log where you can see your progress.

Diane Sue, nice job on the STep Boss workout. Wow, kickbacks with 15's! As for the Live workouts, how do you use Kelly's workouts? I think you can play them on a laptop, or iPad directly. If you want to have them on a TV, you can stream them from another device. I use my Samsung phone, and with a Chromecast device on my TV to play the workouts on the TV. I am not very tech savvy, so there may be other ways to do it. Judy or Lori may be able to help. What happened to your brother is very sad.

Lori, so glad to hear from you. :) When will you be driving to Florida? Does Gigi get carsick? or just nervous?

Take care,

Carolyn, nice work today on Pull Day. They didn't arrive till 11:30 with the washer, but it went quickly. I had the cabinet all cleaned out and yesterday evening I went on an organizing and cleaning spree. Moved out the refrigerator and cleaned under it. Scrubbed the brick on the fireplace. Things I don't get done often.

Valerie, I hope the kale was better for your. I have not done Hard Strikes in quite awhile. Nice work. I hope your ride went well today. We got a GE washing machine that actually gets plenty of water in the tub to get the clothes clean. Funny thing was that it did not have a soap dispenser. I guess with all of the high efficiency washers that don't use hardly any water they need the dispensers. This one just says add soap with clothes or put a pod in the bottom of the machine. As I think about it, that is how we used to do it. Some of those more natural laundry soap pods that are meant to save the environment do not dissolve all of the way and leave soap all over the clothes in the HE machines. I used to break them open and add some water over them till I got rid of that particular soap. I know the water temps are weird. None are that hot. I suppose the hot is whatever you have the hot water heater set for. We kept our hot water heater set at the default setting. It is not hot enough to really burn the skin. This machine has a tap cold, cold, and cool setting along with the warm and hot. Wonder what the difference is in tap cold and cold? Speaking of soaps, I bought Method dishwasher soap and it leaves white residue all over my dishes and the stainless interior of my dishwasher. I tried the highest setting, hot water, and the sanitizing steam setting and the dishes still came out with residue. I think I am just going to have to trash them.

Deb, I am sure that you will enjoy the new ipad. My old Samsung one still works and quite overheating and freezing after I took it back to factory setting twice and left off a lot of apps I was using so that if something was conflicting maybe it would not be affected. I use it for my music that I have on it for the keyboard and piano since it is bigger. I let my 12 year old granddaughter use it here once in awhile in lieu of the laptop. I won't let the littles play games on it though. My 6 year old grandson gets on youtube and I have had him print up satellite pictures that came out of my husbands printer with the old ipads. Those ipads would be toast if they did not have cases around them.
You sign up for Coffey Fit Raw on Kelly's website. You can watch from there on your tablet or laptop. I use fire tv stick to watch her. It was an easy set up. I am sure you can use Chromcast as well. Pretty much like Cathe except we can no longer use Roku. Some that originally had it on Roku still have it like that, but like me others have lost the usage. Kelly has her own app on Fire TV. She has a lot of low impact workouts. I really enjoy her Raw workouts. Probably more so than the dvds as she is a lot more fun and gives suggestions for those that want to take something down or does not have the equipment. Like the new one I did today she said you can sub light dumbbells or weight gloves instead of the egg weights.

late today I did burn sets bi's and tri's, and the ab workout. I did kickbacks with 12 lbs with no problem. I'm not sure why I haven't gone higher before. time to move up.

I have had good luck with Cascade liquid in my dw. dishes are clean, no film, build up. the water supply has influence as well, though. has to do with elements present in water, ph of water etc. not much you can do about that. our water has huge amounts of I think iron and manganese that our water filtration plant removes. we used to have problems with a film on everything and precipitation inside and on surface of plumbing.

clothes washer set on "warm" was not ice cold but maybe 80 degrees? not at all what I'd call warm. I never use "hot" so I don't know what that would be like. I never buy white since it is so hard to keep it from getting yellowish or gray, and my machine makes it sound like thats what you would use "hot" for. I got a top loader without the agitator. it uses a decent amount of water. it weighs the load and fills it to what it thinks is needed. there is an option to fill it further. I did not want a front loader that ends up stinking and not getting anything clean. everyone I know with a front loader said "never again". the pods have too much detergent for the normal loads I wash, and I don't see a way to use less than a whole pod. I use liquid detergent so I can adjust to how much I'm washing. IMO front loaders that use so little water cant get the detergent overload out of the fabric.

Finally popping in. I think I have to go back to Thursday which is my rest/shopping day. Took Nick with me so he could buy the dry goods and some kitchen stuff for his apartment. Nothing changes in the next two weeks, they'll be heading up.

Yesterday I did Cross Train Xpress Kickbox and the abs, skipped the weight work.

Today is turning out to be a rest day, too. Partially from lack of sleep, but also because I'm dealing with a stray kitten. She's been around since about the beginning of April, still very small. Also, very skittish, but now she's got some kind of upper respiratory thing going on, and I don't think she can hear (probably ear mites), and has started just laying around the yard at times. I've been able to sneak up from behind and pet her, that last a few seconds until she realizes it's a human, but then she only moves off a couple feet. I don't think she's eating, so with the combination of low energy and not hearing, I think I can sneak up behind and wrap her up in a small blanket. My cousin dropped a crate off this morning and I'm in the midst of setting it up. I don't even want to contemplate the vet bill to get her fixed up.

Valerie back when I was working I actually had a claimant who died when the car ahead of him hit a deer and it was tossed and came through his windshield. :( Yay on all the activity you are getting. I had a treadmill long ago, but it umm became a place to hang clothes.

Diane Sue great job on the workouts. I hope the new washer works out well. Whenever I see someone in the country looking for internet options, I tell them to run the other direction from Hughes. I was never so happy as I was to find out they had set up Uverse on our corner. There are still a ton of people around here who only have satellite or the hot spot on their phones.

Can I just say  on you guys using 12's and 15's for kickbacks. I can manage 10 if she's doing them slow and not a ton of reps. Most of the time I use 8's.

Deb which iPad did you get? I'm planning to get a new iPad Air this week. My old one is at least 6 years old maybe more. It's gotten really slow and bogged down. I'll probably keep using it for my Kindle books as it's the one place that I have them all organized.

Carolyn Step Sync is always a fun one!

Lori sure sounds like things are very hectic right now. I'm sure you'll be glad to have everything settled down after the move. Moving animals can be rough. We had a dog that loved to ride, but then our last dog absolutely hated it. We tried taking him fun places, but no dice. I think it's fantastic that you planted kale on your Mother's grave.

Meant to ask who else is getting the new workouts? I'm especially looking forward to the yoga ones, and I'm really intrigued with the idea of a round yoga mat. Repeats to self "I do not need more exercise equipment...I do not need..."

Was just looking at some more info on them and realized they or at least one is being termed mobility in some places and yoga based in others. I like the idea of mobility focus.

Today I did PHA 3 which was 64 minutes and 358 calories burned. My average heart rate was 120 and maximum heart rate was 256.

Deb, the July rotation included Fit Split which is how I came to do them this week. I saw the pictures from the Mobility workout. I assume that it will be a yoga based stretch. I get the sense that the term “yoga” has a negative connotation for you :). Many yoga practices are just stretching. I‘m sure that you are happy to have a new iPad.

Diane Sue, we both chose PHA 3 this week. Nice job with that, Raw Box and Sculpt and the lying stretch. One cleaning project can easily lead to another.

Valerie, nice job with Burn Sets Bis and Tris. I prefer liquid detergents for both laundry and the dishwasher.

Hello to Judy, Cathy, Lori, and Christina. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Cathy, I preordered the new workouts. I’ve been looking at round yoga mats for a while, but like you, I really don’t need more equipment! Good luck with the stray kitten.

I'm still around this morning. Cathy good luck with the kitten. she will most likely need shots, treatment for worms, and ear mites, fleas. and spay/neuter. pets are pretty expensive at least initially but costs go down after that initial investment. kind of you to help the poor thing. we will try to find a kitty soon, after our fall trips.

that is so nice you are so helpful and supportive to your son.

I always worry about accidents like that where people really get blindsided. we are especially watchful in MT. we've seen way too many crashes where someone hit an elk. they come down and winter at lower elevations and just like deer, tend to follow each other. so #1 makes it across the hwy but #5 is not so lucky. they weigh much more than a deer. here in WA its nowhere near the problem tho we have elk, but way more deer.

I've been using 8's for kickbacks most of the time and sometimes 10's but I grabbed the 12's on impulse and it wasn't that difficult. surprise! no soreness today. sometimes I forget progress doesn't happen if I use the same thing all the time. I've used higher weights for pull overs but for kickbacks I didn't move up. tricep push ups on the edge of the bench from Stacked upper have made me much stronger, but I always had good triceps.
ETA ran 2 miles on the treadmill and a set of push ups.

Cathy, I preordered the new workouts. I'm looking forward to them. That's great that you are taking care of the stray kitten. I hope you can catch her and get her to the vet. Good luck!

Today I did Coffey Fit Raw Cardio Crush #2, 32 minutes, heart rate 130/169, 3,155 steps followed by Coffey Fit Raw Cardio and Tone, 31 minutes, heart rate 122/171, 2,062 steps. I find with cardio and tone that when I do the floor toning portion it takes the average heart rate down. Happy the Fit Bit functioned half way decent this morning. It gets close to being tossed.
Total time was 63 minutes, 316 calories, 5,217 steps.
