Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/9

This morning I did a timesaver premix from Crossfire, Firewalker Tabata. That was 19 minutes and 105 calories burned. My average heart rate was 119 and maximum heart rate was 146. I also did Jessica Smith’s Pyramid Power Walk for 30 minutes and 211 calories burned. Average heart rate for that was 128 and maximum heart rate was 159.

Diane Sue, the Ladies brunch and game day sounds like fun. Your summer seems to be off to a good start.

Waving hello to All. Have a wonderful day.

we've had nice temps until now. supposed to get pretty warm today, so we did a road ride early. 26 miles, 2 hrs 10 min. its humid for here. makes 80+ uncomfortable. riding was OK though. turned on the air for first time this year. it lets us keep the windows closed so its quieter. I'm awakened by noises even not loud. I cant sleep thru anything anymore.

Carolyn we try to outwit the rush of drivers on weekends. it seems to work best to leave sunday morning early for MT, and now we have discovered Saturday is better day to return. I guess much of the weekend traffic was trying to come home sunday evening, just like we were. its a long day, and unpleasant to get caught in rush hour traffic jams at 5 pm on sundays. Saturday was overall much better. its about the last 60-90 min where it gets jammed up.

Lori hope you are reading our thread and keeping up with things even if you can't post. Hope everything gets sorted out for you.

Diane sue, you are really having trouble with rain and flooding! what a change from the past.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I had the day off. I did XTrain Cardio Leg Blast. It's been so long since I did any kind of plyo work that I was really feeling it, in a good way. I will definitely have some DOMS from this one.
I may be moving into a part time job in the electrical dept of HD. They still have me on the schedule for 2 weeks after my 120 temp period is over. Next week I drop down to 16 hours, so they can keep my weekly average hours down. The week after that it goes back up to 40.

Deb-I am hoping to get my hours back down to 20 or below in July. I had agreed to work extra hours through July for the busiest part of the garden season. I'm looking forward to have 4 days off in a row next week.

Valerie-That is terrible about the casino and the traffic. That must be very frustrating. Nice bike ride! Chris has been getting our bikes ready so we can get out next week and maybe over the 4th of July.

Carolyn-Great combination today! I've missed Jessica's workouts. I should try to get one in this week.

Diane Sue-Great job with Raw 888! That sounds like a tough one. I don't think I've done it yet.

Lori-Thinking of you and hoping you are ok.

Judy

This morning I did Coffey Fit Raw Interval Training #1 which was the challenge workout for raw today, 34 minutes, heart rate average 131, max 172, met 7.5, 232 calories, 2,616 steps. I then did Raw Step # 2, 40 minutes, heart rate average 146, max 180, 3,665 steps. met 8.0. 283 calories. Total time 74 minutes, 515 calories, 6,281 steps. My daughter and grandchildren came over and we went swimming :D

Deb, I have read that age is related to some sleep issues. For different reasons, which is understandable. I don't get it though. I eat right, keep the room right and do everything that I have read and have tried supplements, but still I wake up and have problems falling back to sleep, and most nights I lose about an hour at least just trying to fall asleep. Keeping a sleep pattern of 9 to 5:30 and I still get a very short night of sleep in the end. So going to bed at a regular time and getting up at a regular time does not work. If there is a chance to sleep in, it does not happen. I wake up to the tiniest amount of light in the room and even things like cars going out that early will wake me up. We had a huge metal crate for Mudd and our Dane Puddle. That thing was so much work to fold up and lock to carry out of the house. And so big. Probably way bigger than what you have. It had a door for each dog and we had a partition for them in it at first. We had it set up in our living room when they were pups and put a sheet over it. It gave a nice look to the living room LOL.
We play all kinds of games. This time we played a game using playing cards called golf. It is based on 9 hole golf with scoring for particular cards and not wanting to be left with points. There was also a game that I think must be purchased from a craft company or hand made, I can't remember what they called it. There was a wood game board painted sort of like Parchesie (sp) with holes in it for golf t's that were painted the color for the player, and a deck of playing cards we each had and were playing from for movements. A sheet of rules. We have played Phase 10, the Uno game that shoots out cards. I had a problem with that one when I was supposed to get one card, I pushed too long and ended up with a bunch. They were all laughing :) We also have played just things like a get to know each other better, question and the one with that color token answered questions like hobbies, favorite show etc.. It is lots of fun, and loads of joking around. We played bunco the time before. I think they are planning that again, but looking for a fuzzy dice and bell as someone lost it. I have one though that had been played with by grandchildren.

Valerie, where there is revenue, they always get put first. Not fair at all. We had a lop eared bunny that figured out how to get his crate door open before. We had to wire it shut. He could nose the latch up. He knew where the veggie drawer was in the refrigerator and would try sitting in the bottom when I opened it and nosed the drawer. I had to put a stop to it because he also chewed a hole into the rubber seal around the door and probably not a sanitary thing. You had to open the refrigerator fast and get what you wanted or put him in his crate first. It was nice here this morning after last night's rains. It was 72 when we went to the pool. The children found it fun checking out all of the ducks and geese. There were some ducklings there too. Some were on the water and some come up by the pool fence. There is a small lake by the pool we went to this morning. I really do wish the rains would let up. They mowed the wet grass this morning and when I went to get the mail the standing water had all of the wet grass in it. I couldn't get it all off of my shoes when I climbed back into my car. (I drove up to the mail box when returning from the store) I probably should have pulled in and walked to the mail box and then took my shoes off, but I didn't fully realize till I was already out of the car.

Judy, yeah for a day off. It sounds like you could use some time off. The 16 hour week will be a lot better. Raw 888 is one of the early ones that was on YouTube. It seemed easier to me this time than previously. I was kind of avoiding doing it again because I remembered it seeming really hard. Maybe it is because I knew what to expect this time.

Carolyn, I am staying very busy this summer, but it is pleasant spending fun time with others.

Today I did Great Glutes, which was 56 minutes and 216 calories burned. My average heart rate was 107 and maximum heart rate was 151.

Judy, nice job with Cardio Leg Blast. I felt it too when I did it last week even though I modify most plyo moves to low impact. I’m already feeling today’s workout!

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Interval Training and Raw Step #2.

Valerie, getting your ride done while the weather is mild was smart. High temperatures and humidity makes outside activities very unpleasant for me.

Hello to Deb and Lori. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Hi,

I went for a semi-private agility lesson with Kylee and a friend with her dog this morning. We get so much more out of that than from a regular class.

Valerie, that sounds so typical of those types of operations. I am the same way about noises now. Let one bird chirp at 4 am and I am awake.

Judy, that's great that you will have 4 days in a row off. Moving to the electrical dept may make it easier, less walking!

Diane Sue, wow, taht crate had to be huge! The ones we have are 30 inches long, for 1 dog, and they are awkward to take donw and put up. I will have to start getting used to it though if I plan on showing Ike in the future. Those games sound like fun. Are these women part of a group you belong to or just friends that you have had for a while?

Hi to Lori & Carolyn,

Take care,

I had my grandchildren today and kept my grandson this afternoon so his mother and sister 11, could go get a pedicure and go to lunch. When they came back we played a card game for awhile. It was a pleasant day other than I started getting neck pain and a headache this afternoon and took Excedrin. I ended up feeling terribly dizzy and kind of nauseated. I figure it was probably the Excedrin, but it is still hanging on somewhat tonight. Hopefully it is gone when I get up in the morning.

Carolyn, nice work on Great Glutes. It seems like that workout would have burned a few more calories than that. I was thinking about Legs and Glutes and how many years it has been since I have pulled it out. Funny, how some of those older workouts have collected dust!

Deb, that crate was the largest we could find. A couple of years we had to take it and both dogs with us for what used to be our yearly fourth of July camping/cabin trip with all of the family. One was so miserable because we took our fifth wheel and it rained. We could not set the crate up inside and had to put out the awning and have the dogs in the crate outside. It was so muddy and I spent most of my time walking dogs trying to get them to do something on leash. We could not bring muddy dogs inside the trailer. If it wasn't for that we would have taken them inside. I think it ended up at my daughter's more recently when they had hatched baby chicks and had to keep them inside their house for awhile because it was so cold outside. I can see how a private lesson would work better, without all of the extra distractions.

The ladies group was started 8 years ago by one of the women's mother. I was invited by a couple of the women from my church. A lot of the women go to my church or used to go to my church and some are friends of the others. They rotate homes for game day with 4 of them that have plenty of room and right now there are 14 of us.

Good morning,

Did not sleep well last night, fell asleep, woke up at 1:30 and had a hard time getting back to sleep. Then woke up at 4:00 to use the bathroom, dogs were restless, they wanted to get up, so have been up since then. I need to go to the butcher shop this morning and buy some meats etc, prepare them and take over to my niece's. She has been sick for a while, has taken a leave from work...(she is a teacher and this is the worst time of year to be off).

Diane Sue, nice day with the grandchildren. Sorry about your neck pain, dizziness etc. I hope it is better today. Maybe a sinus thing? Barometric pressure changes can do that sometimes. I can see how keeping those 2 larger dogs in a fifth wheel would be difficult. I can't imagine how dirty they could get camping, especially if it rained. Wow, 14, that is a great group!

Hi to all,
Any plans for the weekend?

weather is way cooler again. we did a marathon of yard work yesterday. our houses are such a contrast. the WA house is completely surrounded with trees and bushes. it is green and dense, and things grow so robustly we need to prune twice a year. I should say DH has to prune! we have one gas pruner but I have to hold the ladder, maneuver, rake up the clippings so its a serious work day for both of us. the MT house, nothing grows but tumbleweeds and grass. we have graveled all around the house, and need to Round up the driveway. defensible space. nothing much grows there except invasive weeds that grow on disturbed ground. they grow quickly, die in summer, setting up potential fire conditions. we are working to knock down the invasives but they are persistent and grow quickly. if you don't irrigate or live near a creek, it is pretty barren.

we will ride later today. my contact lenses came in so I need to get them this morning. would have gotten them yesterday but lenses didn't get to the office until too late for me to get there.

we have wondered about getting another dog but as much as I like them, I don't think so. I still would like another kitty but we aren't moving too quickly.

Today I did Cardio Slam for 49 minutes and 363 calories burned. My average heart rate was 130 and maximum heart rate was 153. I ran errands and did some shopping after my workout. Once upon a time I enjoyed shopping, but these days I hate it! Going to stores is such a frustrating task these days. I can never find what I want and it’s almost impossible to get assistance.

Deb, that’s too bad that you had such a poor nights sleep. It’s very thoughtful of you to prepare food for your niece. I’m sure that she will appreciate it.

Diane Sue, I wondered about my calories for Great Glutes, but so much of it is done on the floor. The mat work and stability ball segments are not huge calorie burners.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Lori.

Today I did Coffey Fit Raw workouts. I started with the challenge raw workout, Athletic Cardio Drills and Barbell using a 25# barbell, since yesterday was heavier, 31 minutes, heart rate 124 average, 153 max, 194 calories, met 7.4, 1,777 steps. I then did Raw Step #3, 43 minutes, 310 calories, met 151 average, 185 max(not sure how I got that high of a heart rate), met 8.5, 4,097 steps. I finished off with Raw foam roller stretch, 24 minutes, heart rate 91 average, 130 max, met 3.4, 55 calories, 193 steps. Total time was 98 minutes, 559 calories, 6067 steps.

Deb, I am sorry that you did not get any sleep. It is so rough running around feeling exhausted and still moving. I still have pain this morning. I had to take it easy and modify some overhead moves today. I have been icing and took an extra curcumin capsule. I don't know what is up, as even my toes hurt yesterday. They feel better today so that is a plus.

Valerie, yard work can be such a large task. I had to put grass killer in the cracks in the road near our driveway. You would think the HOA would take care of that. It was starting to look really ugly. It still is not all dead. It keeps raining on everything. Enjoy your ride today.

Carolyn, I have a dread of going shopping. I would rather stay home, but I get out and get it done.

We mt biked this morning as planned, after I picked up my lenses. I didn't start my timer. thought it was running but it was not, so started it after at least half an hour of riding. ended up around 2-2.5 hours. 8 miles. it was 4 miles uphill, and then 4 miles back down. really a fun ride. a lot of elevation gain, so its a fast ride back. so many trails to try off the main trail. I am sure mt biking is a bigger calorie burner than road biking.

sweet of you Deb to help out your niece. sounds like a rough night. I've been waking up between 4-5 most mornings tho this morning it was almost 5:30.

so Ive been dealing with my sister again. now she thinks she can get a job with the census. even the application says they will respond by email or text, and she has neither. I'm sure they don't conduct the census with paper records, it must all be done on laptops or a table.

she got a smart phone thru Medicaid and has it 6 weeks now and can't figure out how to use it. I would have gotten her one ages ago but the issue is the monthly fee which she cant afford. now that she has the phone... I was hoping she would at least TRY to learn. she is so ignorant of any current technology that its hard to explain anything. she cant find any buttons or get anything to work. she had someone else look at it to get her phone number after I explained to her that it HAD to come with a number but she could not find it. she doesn't know how to use the touch screen. easy to see when someone does it, but hard to explain over the phone.

Carolyn you are not alone. I have come to hate shopping. I am OK with groceries but other shopping is no fun anymore. I buy things online I never ever would have believed would be OK to do.

Valerie, it is too bad she does not have internet. She could probably get a smart tv and watch youtube videos on how to use her phone and devices. But, that would be a whole learning experience too. That is a tough spot to be in. My dad was in his mid 80's and he could use the internet, print pictures, order things etc, himself. His only problem is he would push wrong buttons and mess settings up and then need someone to come along and set things back up for him. Either that or he would just go buy a new computer or printer and start over. You can hardly live without devices now. I am having a hard time getting the books I wanted to get for my granddaughter from the library because they only have them in e-books. She likes paper books. Plus she would have to read them on my tablet.
I don't even like grocery shopping, but I can guarantee I would not do delivery or pick up. I want to know what I am getting and that I get the best produce.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did ICE Metabolic Total Body with Icy Core 1. I had forgotten how much I like that workout. It was perfect to do on my day off.

Deb-I'm sorry you didn't sleep well. That is too bad about your niece. It's nice of you to help.

Diane Sue-I'm sorry about your neck pain and dizziness. I have occasional problems with vertigo so I know how that feels. You're doing great with the Raw workouts!

Valerie-Great ride! I agree about mountain biking being a bigger calorie burner than road riding.

Carolyn-Great job with Cardio Slam! I'm with you on hating to shop. I also used to enjoy it. I order as much as I can from Costco.com, Amazon, etc.

Hi to Lori,

Judy

Diane sue, she is so out of date its hard to imagine. no internet. no cell phone. basic cable TV. can't drive. I had to tell her to throw away her VCR. she has never had a camera. I'm not "competitive" about having the "latest thing" but its almost like she is living on another planet, or has been isolated on an island for 40 years. it is incredibly difficult to accomplish anything without internet service and being out in public without a phone when you are dependent on others for rides is almost dangerous. there is no recourse if your ride doesn't show up or you need help. I have helped her a lot by ordering things, getting free delivery, and using amazon prime, my credit card, and shopping skills to get her what she needs.
but, and this is a big "but"..... even when handed the tools, she fights tooth and nail against learning to use them. she has always been a difficult person.. it's a much bigger problem now than it was in 1965. I could just tear my hair out sometimes. If I buy her a computer then it will be "on me" to try to teach her to use it. NO WAY! I'm not asking for anyone to figure this out, just venting a little. thanks for listening everyone.
she has a newer TV because her old one died. she can't even program the answering or voice mail part of her landline phone. :(:eek:

yes judy, we burn a whole lot of calories mt biking. I love that Ice metabolic total body workout too.

Valerie-That must be so frustrating! Especially when you are so far away. It's almost impossible to function without using a smart phone and computer. I had a customer at HD who had me order an item for them from the store computer to be delivered to their home. They said they did not have a computer. That is rare.

Judy, she has burned all her bridges. her husband was a bright guy, did IT work. ( wonder why they divorced??) she is estranged from son who lives in city. her daughter lives far away, but that is adversarial also. I'm glad I'm far away. we don't get along!
she is stuck in the last century. every time someone helps, she argues, fights, and alienates them. IMO most of us pick up things from others, not in formal classes. if you can't figure out how to do something a new , you ask a friend, a child, or look it up on U-tube! she has one friend left in AZ. I KNOW this friend bought her a sewing machine but it's computerized so it got stuffed in the attic still in the box. same fate to new phones. still in box. her procedure is reject the new thing, and basically shoot the messenger.... almost punishing the person for trying to help. . she is diabetic. used blood glucose monitoring devices for a long time. when she gets an updated one, she won't even try. schedules an appt with a nurse to show her how to do it. good grief... these things are so simple and all work the same.

every time there's a shift in technology, don't we all feel "stupid" for a while? you muddle thru and soon it is not so hard. you gotta try!
okay... rant over.

we have a load of appts today, will try to get in weights later today.

Today I did the challenge workout Coffey Fit "Tatum Coffey" Raw Hi/Lo Cardio 45, 34 minutes, heart rate 121 average, 156 max, met 7.8, 201 calories, 2012 steps. This one is different as you do 15 minutes of cardio, some floor work leg lifts, then standing and lower light dumbbell combos all at 45 sec per move, which still keeps the heart rate up some. I then did 30 Minutes to Fitness dvd Boot Camp cardio only premix, heart rate average 137, max 169, met 8.0, 212 calories, 2,851 steps. I finished off with Cathe Lite extended stretch 12 minutes, 31 calories, 11 steps. Total time was 76 minutes, calories burned 444, 4,874 steps.
I did change up some moves in the hi/lo when it came to shoulder stuff. I ended up doing split jumps and skaters with biceps curls instead to save my neck. I was only using 3# dumbbells.

Judy, nice work with Ice Metabolic. I don't know exactly why I don't like going shopping, but it sure seems nicer to just have stuff come to the door. I can sit in my chair and make choices buying online. No getting dressed to go out. My shopping is almost exclusively at the grocery store when I go out.

Valerie, you mentioning children, those little ones know how to operate electronics very young. They could show how to get on computers and devices, no problem :) It is too bad that she alienates people that could help her. I guess everything becomes a learning experience. Most things do not come with much for instructions because they expect you to go online for a manual and instruction. It could improve her life so much if she would try to learn something for herself. I am surprised she was thinking about a census job.
You are good to help her. She needs to learn how to take care of herself. Yes, we all have those learning times and feel silly when we realize how easy it really was.

Carolyn, I hope that you had a nice rest day.
