Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/30

Today I did Kelly's Build and Burn Cardio Core, heart rate 140 average, max 170, met 7.5, 191 calories, 27 minutes, 1,962 steps. Coffey Fit Raw Boxing and Drills wearing an 8# vest, heart rate average 142, max 178, 29 minutes, 2,484 steps, met 8.0, 210 calories. I finished with Raw stretch stopping at 23 minutes, 44 calories, 37 steps. 80 minutes total time, 445 calories, 4,483 steps. I have been so busy that eating has been forgotten quite a lot till I am really hungry and I end up eating a nutrition bar so I can keep going. I have lost 2# this week.

Carolyn, my husband needed cash from the bank and me to pick up door knobs that he had keyed for our church. Since both were going to be closed and he was working and today is a holiday, it was something I needed to do. It was one of those dreaded things as the lock and safe place is on a very busy street and I ended up making a right and driving away from the direct I needed to go next. I ended up going home and then going back out to the bank. He had a Harley he wanted to purchase today so needed the funds as it is a private seller and not a business. I would like to hit Sprouts again, but think I will wait till tomorrow.

Deb, that stuff really does the trick on stuff if you really want to kill it. When I was cutting small trees that were popping up among the shrubs at our las house, I just painted some of that on the stump. I was downloading old pictures to my new computer and saw a picture of a pup we had that was a wirehaired terrier. She was so cute, but a little devil I think. Hard to train. We lived in an apartment and she ran out the door when it was open and hit by a car because on top of running out, it was icy. She had a bad temperament I was working on. Stubborn. She would try to bite you if she wanted to get you to let go of her. I have never had a dog that was that difficult.
I love that pic of your doggies. They are so adorable.

Valerie, I kept hearing noise last night and wondering what the neighbors were doing , till I realized it was fireworks. We went to bed after 11 and got woke up with Gertie barking. Then later as I was just falling back to sleep a bright light hit in the face along the edge of the curtains. That never happens. Cars do not come toward our bedroom window and we have a tall fence. I told my husband maybe the police were searching for someone. The next door neighbor site has had reports of someone going through yards. Someone got a picture and they said there was also a cream color car that has been around since there have been some thefts. Then again maybe they are checking on illegal fireworks, but I really doubt that. I have been more cautious on the weights with my shoulder and neck issues. When Kelly was doing 10's on the workout yesterday I dropped to 8's. I just do not want to experience the pain. I can get away with up to 15's once in awhile, but definitely need some recovery afterward or I am in trouble. I do not know why so many workouts want to pick up weights, even in cardio and push them overhead and into lateral raises to raise the heart rate. It gets to be too much when it is in so many workouts. The next workout in Kelly's challenge tomorrow involves cleans and push press. Last time I did this I did squat curls instead.

I did Revd up rumble, then a premix from X train bis and tris, then core 1 from X train. I want to be tired tonight. people have been blowing stuff up on and off for a month already. just not in the volume it will be tonight. I would not complain if it was limited to one night, but no, we get it for a month. so hard to catch people in the act and the police are overwhelmed . it will go on most of the night here but luckily its cool out so we can shut the windows. I would not call 911 tonight unless it was a fire or a car wreck or something.

that's a downside of a hard- to- train dog, risks to their own well being because they don't obey. . my aunts dog ran out and got hit by a car too, because she didn't keep up his training and he did whatever he wanted. it was sad to see a previously well trained dog develop terrible habits. even after the accident , and expensive surgery, she never kept up even a speck of training. it was a sad thing at the time , but a blessing in disguise. unfortunately the dog lived. obnoxious creature. just like some people, some dogs cant be taught.

it is the standing over head presses that are hard for me to improve. if I am in other positions, like on a ball or a bench, it's not as challenging. I do them usually with 10's but would love to improve enough to go heavier. I worked hard today and think I will be sore tomorrow.

Happy 4th of July!

This morning I did LiTe PHA 2. Today we ordered the Peloton bike. It should be here in 2-3 weeks, maybe sooner. I'm really happy to get the new bike and I think Chris will use it too.
The fireworks are going off like crazy around here and one of our kitties, Chino, is just terrified :( He is hiding under the bed and is very distressed. I feel terrible for him.

Deb-Great job with LiTe this week! Nice job on the steps too!

Carolyn-Great job with Muscle Endurance! One of my favorites!

Valerie- I usually do overhead presses with 10's or 12's if I'm feeling strong. They really go nuts with fireworks here too. I hope it isn't too bad there.

Diane Sue-That is scary about the bright light and someone going through yards. We've had a lot of that kind of thing here too.

Hi to Lori,

Judy

Good morning,

I hope everyone had a pleasant 4th of July holiday. No workout today. I am off to a puppy agility workshop in a few minutes with IKE. Should be fun.

Valerie, we had some really loud firecrackers, right on the street on the side of our house ( we have a corner lot). I was ready to call the police, they were the scary whistling ones that you picture landing on your roof and starting a fire. They stopped around 10:30....John went out and checked around the house to make sure nothing had come close.

Carolyn, sounds like you had a lovely family day. :)

Diane Sue, good job on the weight loss, even though it was due to being so busy and no time to eat. A new Harley? Fun! So sad about that pup you had that was hit by a car. It sounds like it could have been a Wire Fox terrier. Sounds like our first one. There are a few wired haired terriers though.

Judy, so sorry about Chino and the fireworks..:(. We actually have CD's that are for stressful things for dogs, to de-sensitize them. We played the thunder one for IKE yesterday, he did not even blink while it was playing. We thought it might be a good simulation for upcoming fireworks. When they started last night, he was in his crate in the living room, sleeping, and never budged. I think part of it is that Kylee does not get affected at all, and he is so keyed into how she reacts to things. 10's or 12's for overhead presses is pretty impressive! Wow a new bike! That's great!

Lori, I hope things are getting better for you. We miss your posts here.

Take care,

This morning I did Muscle Max. My time was 78 minutes with 361 calories burned. Average heart rate was 110 and maximum heart rate was 161.

Deb, enjoy your day at the agility workshop.

Diane Sue, nice workout yesterday. You have really been busy lately, forgetting to eat. Are things slowing down now?

Judy, great job with LiTE PHA 2. That’s so exciting that you ordered the Peloton bike. You certainly deserve it.

Valerie, I hope that the noise wasn’t too bad for you last night.

Hello to Lori. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Well, it was pretty terrible, from yesterday afternoon on. luckily it was cool so we could shut windows. I was tired which helps, and my basic is closed windows, ear plugs, and pillow over my head, Advil PM. most of it was over by midnight although still some isolated ka booms every little while, which is typical. some more noise this morning but not too bad. makes it hard to get where its coming from when its random and erratic. I slept OK and feel decent today. we get this around new years eve too. Mostly done for another year. our immediate neighbors make a huge amount of noise but mostly limit it to the night of the 4th.

I got myself somewhat sore from yesterdays workout.
We used to bring our kitty inside after mid day, although he never seemed that bothered by the noise. we got one of our pets after she showed up in our yard after the 4th, but the subsequent kitties didn't seem that bothered. still, they belong inside on the 4th.

Deb that is what we worry about, some aerial thing landing in brush or tree and starting a fire. it has been overcast and misting a little so that reduces chances. DH was flaming some weeds yesterday and kept going back to stomp out smoldering bits. summers are dry here and it doesn't take much to start a fire. lots of communities outlaw home fireworks, but we are out in the county and it doesn't happen.

Deb-Thank you. I ordered a thunder-shirt for Chino from chewy.com. I was worried about someone starting a fire last night too. I didn't go to bed until I was sure the fireworks were done and everything was ok. I hope you have a fun day at the agility workshop!

Valerie-Thanks! I'll post photos as soon as it gets here. I can't wait! The township is pretty strict about stopping fireworks by 11:45 pm and we noticed a police car driving around the condo complex around that time so it looks like they were enforcing it. We didn't hear any more after that.

Carolyn-Great job with Muscle Max! Another one of my favorites! Thanks! I would never have gotten a Peloton if I wasn't working again. Now that my hours are dropping back to part time I'll be able to enjoy it too.

This Morning I did Coffey Fit Raw Cardio Weight Tabata, 38 minutes, 237 calories, met 6.6, 1,586 steps, heart rate average 121, max 153. I think this was supposed to be the next raw workout, but I never saw one posted for today. I then did Cathe's Rev'd Up Rumble, 42 minutes, heart rate average 134, max 162, met 7.9, 283 calories, 3,504 steps. Total time was 80 minutes, 520 calories, 5,080 steps.

Valerie, this year I have only heard fireworks going off two nights. It started before dark on the 3rd though. I guess some dogs are born with a bad temperament or something. I have learned that you cannot just stop training. Once in awhile the dog gets by with a few things and if you become lax, they take advantage just like a child would. I recently had to stop and make Gertie wait for me to get out the door with my hands full and not climb the stairs on my heels. I make her go back down and wait till I tell her it is okay. Same last night when I was carrying the push mower out the door and she was trying to squeeze out ahead of me. I made her go back in and wait. That is what happens when you get lax on the training. My neighbors are almost all older and are not prone to being noisy. But, we live close to the lake just below the dam and I am sure they have festivities there. It is not that I can't lift heavier. I can push 20 lb dumbbells overhead, but I worry about the pain and consequences afterward. I used to go way heavier years ago.
I really do like the Rev'd Up Rumble workout. I do not have a dread of the Lite workouts like I do some.

Judy, I bet you are really excited about the new Bike. I watch Kelly on hers in her Ripped and Ride workouts and think it would be pretty cool to have one. A lot of neighbors have had alarm systems put in around here.

Deb, I will have to go back and look at the picture of our terrier. I looked at adult pictures and I think you have the name right. Her name was Smurfette LOL. We always managed to have funny names for our dogs. My children were heart broken. I bet your time with Ike at the workshop will be a fun time.

Carolyn, nice work today on Muscle Max. I remember doing the one they had on Cathe Live. It was different though. Things were somewhat slower today since I was on my own. I have been trying to get caught up with things. I have two days with grandchildren next week and then the weeks after are going to be really busy and I have doctor appointments filtered in. I will be taking my grandson to a day camp and picking him up 3 days and watching the two others one of those day. Also I am hoping to make it to the ladies game day. We will see. Today was the same with eating. I kind of made it up a bit this evening, but am still quite a bit under in calories.

I got pretty sore from something I did yesterday. I thought a workout today might help me loosen up but I didn't do too well. thought I'd try Cardio Party again but had a rough time with the warm up so popped that out of the player and put in cardio supersets. did about 2/3 of it but not in a "strong" manner. limping along. so I bagged it and will do something else tomorrow.

when my back is supported, I can do heavier over head weights, but just standing there without support, I back way off.

I think dogs are a lot like kids, will push the limits if they aren't reminded of how they are supposed to behave. my aunt's dog was her son's dog before she inherited him. he was beautifully trained, a nice dog. after a year or two with the aunt, he was obnoxious. forgot "sit" "stay" "come", going into the garbage and eating things he shouldn't. even ate a section of drapery while it was still on the wall. started jumping on everyone, humping everyone constantly. he was a BIG 120 lb dog. eating drapery was a big surgery. funny because the aunt had been strict with her sons, but when it came to the dog, she let him do whatever he wanted. some dogs are easier to train than others, but you need consistency. dog obedience classes are more about training the owner than the dog. the bigger the dog, the more important. when she got him, he walked on a leash, but soon he was lunging like crazy, and she could not control him.

much quieter tonight but still explosions going on. a lot of older people live here too, but they let their kids and grandkids come and blow up things.

we are watching a series on the history channel called 'Alone". groups of 10 people are placed separately in wilderness settings, stay as long as they can living off the land. mainly fishing. locations on Vancouver island and Patagonia. Really interesting what people find to eat, how they build shelters, tools. they are dropped off with some gear of their choosing. they have a camera to record events and a phone. can call to "tap out" and get picked up by boat. I didn't think I'd enjoy it but I am. some people are very likeable, creative, amazingly persistent. most lose a lot of weight. one guy just got pulled out for medical reasons, he was getting dangerously thin. interestingly, the men lose 2x the weight the women do. a half million $ prize for whoever stays the longest, but no one knows how many people are still competing. the first season was repetitive but the program got more streamlined in following seasons. we watch half an episode at lunch.

Good Afternoon, Ladies. This morning I did Rock’m, Sock’m Kickboxing which was 48 minutes and 359 calories burned. My average heart rate was 131 and maximum heart rate was 153.

Diane Sue, nice work with Raw Cardio Weight Tabata and LiTE Rev’d Up Rumble. I like that one too many. One thing that I like about the LiTE series is the versatility that comes with the Calorie Crush options. Most times I just want the main workout, but I can always add a little more if necessary.

Valerie, that’s too bad about Cardio Party. Cardio Supersets is a great workout too. That series that you are watching sounds very interesting.

Hello to Deb, Judy, and Lori.

Deb, here is a picture of our dog Smurfette I was talking about. This was in 1983 so a long time ago.

Today I did Coffey Fit Raw Step 3, 44 minutes, 341 calories, met 8.5, heart rate 143 average, 178 max, 4,218 steps. I then did Coffey Fit Raw Ab Finisher that Kelly just put up, 19 minutes, heart rate average 100, max 132, met 3.5, 61 calories, 376 steps. I finished off with Kelly's Boot Camp bonus stretch, 19 minutes, met 2.5, 42 calories, 79 steps. Total time was 82 minutes, 444 calories, 4,673 steps.

Valerie, I remember them talking about that show "Alone". It would be interesting to see what all they use.
That dog your sister had was huge. I don't think the Mastiff we had was quite that big, she was a female. You have to be particularly consistent with large dogs. Maybe some yoga or something would be a good choice for loosening up.

Carolyn, nice work with Rock'm Sock'm. Yes, those Calorie Crush workouts are nice for a quick short add on to the workouts. Or even doing a couple of them for a quick, but intense cardio to add onto weight work.

diane sue, was my aunt with the dog, and he wasn't really that big a dog, yellow lab, but she over fed him along with the other issues. he was fat. he should have weighed 85 lbs. aunt was a not a big person and weak. she could not come close to walking him on a leash. Smurfette dog looks like Debs dogs.

I didn't think I'd like Alone. there are 5 seasons. we've watched 3. some people are more creative than others, but its interesting how they build many different shelters with the materials available, and a tarp or two. no 2 are the same. people build rafts, kayaks, all kinds of baskets, shelves, traps for fish and land critters. they all lose a lot of weight, and some get pulled out by the medical team if they get too thin. an advantage to start out as a bigger person so you can afford loss without getting below BMI of 17.

I read carolines post and did Rock em sock em. probably not a good choice. I modified most of the jacks and angels. yoga would have been better, maybe tomorrow.
