Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/27

This morning I did Cardio Supersets. That is one of the workouts I haven't done in years because in my head it was intimidating. I did it though and only modified some of the pushups to on my knees. I definitely don't love it, but I can do it!

I never minded the organized community fireworks. They are publicized and everyone knows they are happening. It's all the crazy people that don't care when they do them, and feel free to do them for weeks and late at night. It's reached the point where I can just do without all of them. I don't travel holiday weekends. I haven't in decades. Not since my grandparents sold their cottage back in the 80's. We'd go up there for holidays, but we could take the backroads a good portion of the way.

carthy I agree. fine with the community displays. a set date/ time, run by people who know what they're doing. its the localized "outbreaks" any time any day. by people well into their beer. a lot of people do it around here. although its not legal there is so much of it that nothing gets enforced. we close down early, have hoses out. we have a lot of huge trees. if a fire ever gets started here, we will just have to run for it. we also don't travel or go places on holiday weekends. that was our big deciding point, how long could we stay in MT since we would not want to travel even close to this weekend. Tuesday was as long as we felt it was OK.

I havent done any workouts since we felt like we hit it pretty hard all week in MT. might do a ride tomorrow and a ride sunday.

Hi Everyone,

This week is flying by. The weather has been bad here, with a lot of rain and flooding, like Cathy mentioned. We didn't have any problems with the flooding, but many areas nearby did. Fortunately we didn’t lose power during the storms.

Earlier in the week I did a short run and several Peloton Rides. Yesterday I did Rock’m Sock’m KB and Muscle Meltdown Triceps. Today I did a 60 minute Peloton ride after work.

Carolyn-Great job with Perfect Pump Upper Body. I always enjoyed the 4th of July too. I used to do a 10k race every year on the 4th when I was in the Quad Cities. It was something I really looked forward too.

Diane Sue-Nice job with the CDorner workouts. I’ll have to check out her mobility workouts again. I need to try one.

Cathy-I know what you mean about traffic around the Detroit zoo area. The traffic in and around Royal Oak is bad all the time. It’s pretty bad where we are too but I’ve gotten somewhat used to it.

Valerie-that sounds like a very rough trip with the heat. It’s good that you are home now. I hope the fireworks aren’t too bad there. They've already started here. I can hear them going off in the neighborhood next to our condo.

Hi to Deb

We were nervous about pushing our truck too hard. its a good size truck.... ford 350 super duty. the camper is heavy even tho we jettisoned as much weight as we could. we just had the big repair, and this heat level was unprecedented. we HAD to run air but we slowed down, and didnt run the fan at top speed. overheating in open plains on a freeway at 114 degrees going uphill, a long climb up from the columbia river. can you imagine trying to fix that mess if you overheated or had an engine failure? so we were conservative, slowed down, ran the fan lower speed, watched the temp gauge carefully. everything ran fine. NOT a time to push limits. a long drive. awful awful heat. opening windows at 114 degrees does NOT help, there is no option to not run air.

good workouts Judy! we are getting pop up bursts of fireworks for several days already. traffic here was nasty yesterday, today will be at least as bad. rain in the forecast slows things down but its is for sun and for many people the first holiday to party after covid. sounds like it will be rough. at least in western WA we are getting a marine layer in, cooling things for at least half the day. my least favorite time of year.
cathy we dont have any "back roads" here anymore, everything is busy and crowded. didn't used to be like this.

had another dust up with my sister. she got a replacement refrigerator ordered by and paid for by a cousin. I told her that cousin and are are not going to continue to rescue her. she needs to confer with her social worker and look for another place to live. she needs government sponsored senior housing and she needs help to transition to it. her level of incompetence is stunning. she complains about everything. this time was a magazine subscription she said she paid for and is not receiving. she paid by check. I said make sure the check was cashed. no clue! it took about 15 minutes explaining why she needed to know if they got the money before continuing to complain about it. she doesn't balance her check book. I know not everyone does, but if a check doesn't clear, how will you know? she didnt know where her bank statement was with check number and whether it cleared. I explained she had no grounds to complain if they didnt get her money, so if check was lost it was a different issue. she kept going off on tangents about the company moved, wrong phone numbers etc. blah blah. she finally found her last bank statements, apparently they go in a pile of paper somewhere in her house. check cleared. so now she can complain, her favorite thing to do. I am so done with dealing with her bs.

Today I did Rev’d Up Rumble for 41 minutes and 296 calories burned. My average heart rate was 130 and maximum heart rate was 154. I made a quick trip to the store to get shiitake and cremini mushrooms for a bean and mushroom stew that I am making for dinner. I discovered the recipe on Food 52 last month and it is so delicious! The beans are the Christmas Limas that are also a recent discovery. They taste nothing like the limas that I remember.

Diane Sue, great job with the CDorner Low Impact and Lower Body workouts. I think that insurance does require the follow up appointments periodically.

Cathy, I really like Cardio Supersets. It’s one that I have done many times. On the other hand, my thoughts on Low Impact Challenge from that series mirrored yours for Supersets. For many years we traveled home to Louisiana at this time of year because it was the best time for me to be away from work. I haven’t done that since my mother passed away in 2015. It just doesn’t feel the same.

Judy, great job with your short run, Peloton rides, Rock’m Sock’m Kickboxing, and Muscle Meltdown Triceps. When is your virtual race?

Valerie, traveling in extreme heat like that takes a lot out of you. It was smart of you to take time to recover.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today I did LIS Lower Body Trisets. We've had a couple really beautiful days to make up for all the rain. Temps in the 70's and breezy with mostly sunny skies. My idea of perfect weather!

Judy great job with the workouts!

Valerie so far we haven't had much at all in the way of fireworks, but I figure that luck is gonna end real soon. At least the neighbors on either side of us don't do them. Just waiting on the people to our north whose house sits way back off the road surrounded by fields. Her Dad is the fire bug and they are bound to do them at some point. Dealing with your sister sounds incredibly frustrating. My families current issue is my Mom who has all the signs of early dementia and really needs her cataracts removed. My sister is hoping to come for a long weekend this month and said she lives farthest away so she'll take the heat and be really blunt about her needed her eyes done. She really can't see well at all, but is in total denial.

Carolyn great job on Rev'd Up Rumble! We definitely flip flopped on the workouts. I like Low Impact Challenge though I always tend to do just the main step part.

Today I did CDorner Step Areobics Basic Intermediate workout from 1 day ago. I am guessing this is one she did later in the day. 43 minutes, heart rate 150/175, 274 calories, 3,792 steps. This one was easy choreography. I was not that thrilled with the music, but that is okay. It had no jumping in it. I also did CDorner Cardio Mobility and 15 minutes of a mobility stretch, 45 minutes for both, 80 calories, heart rate 84/114, 329 steps. Total time 88 minutes, 354 calories, 4,121 steps.
We went to a local nursery and I picked up a new hydrangea plant as the one I had died after that long hard freeze. Also finally found some basil plants. I keep buying tiny things of fresh basil for recipes.

Just finished XTrain Bi's and Tri's. Haven't done these in awhile so having to guess at and adjust weights. I made notes in the workout manager for next time.

Diane Sue great job with the step aerobics and mobility workouts!

I bought one basil plant for 4.99 at the grocery store. groceries have RACKS of basil plants here. so much better than buying it cut in a plastic box. incredibly easy to grow. stick it in dirt and it grows. they have other small vegetable plants like tomatoes, zucchini, kale etc. in one week basil quadrupled in size, and I have basil for the ages already. used some last night in a dish that wasnt memorable but the basil was great.

some booms last night but not bad yet. it is so dry here lots of communities and the fire departments are banning in as many areas as they can, but it is so hard to enforce with so many violating the law and common sense. last year was wetter and we stayed in MT where it was civilized and fairly quiet. here is like living in a war zone. our next door neighbors mowed their lawn yesterday, an ominous sign that they will do their usual explosive nonsense. it's really an big field of dry grass and weeds not actually a lawn. if that ever ignites we have no chance. it is too far for hoses to reach. there are others in the neighborhood.

doing a workout today, probably upper body, and then riding tomorrow morning. I was plain old tired yesterday and lazed around most of the day.

This morning I did LiTE Metabolic Blast for 43 minutes and 252 calories burned. My average heart rate was 124 and maximum heart rate was 164. Then I did a Core workout from Obe Fitness on the WW app. That was 11 minutes, a nice add on.

Judy, Atlanta has the Peachtree Road Race each year on July 4. Last year was all virtual, but this year they have both virtual and in person. The in person race is over 2 days to avoid having 60,000+ runners packed together. The first group ran this morning. I have friends who have participated, but it’s not for me. I was tempted to walk it one year to get the coveted t-shirt.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Step Aerobics, Cardio Mobility, and Mobility stretch. You will be happy to have that basil plant growing on your patio.

Cathy, nice job with XTrain Bis and Tris. I keep worksheets for my strength workouts. I always need to look at what weights I used the last time as I prepare for a workout.

Valerie, I like getting the basil plants from the grocery store. I realized that the plant that I have is a different variety of basil than the one that usually get at Sprouts. I’m thinking of making pesto from the one that I have and replacing it with the other variety.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today I did CDorner Step Aerobics #127,Int/ Adv. , she says that it has music tracks about America. I really did not notice much other than the first one which was Neil Diamond. I wish she didn't mess up so much as I would be getting it down and she would mess up and stop. This was 62 minutes, 302 calories, heart rate 131/162, 5,547 steps. I followed this with her full body 15 minute deep stretch which she used a chair for a lot of. This was 25 calories heart rate 77/100. Total time was 77 minutes, 327 calories, 5,547 steps.
Afterward I rearranged my workout space so that I think it will give me more room. I was waiting on the lawn guy to come and he did not mow today because the corner of our yard is so wet from all of the rain and his equipment is not handling it. He will come tomorrow morning.
We went to lunch and to get plant stuff. This afternoon I pulled up some plants and got it ready so we could put a hydrangea in and planted some basil for cooking.
Lots of fireworks here. Gertie was fretting over all of it. We never had much and not close at the other house. I think there was a public display not too far away. I could see it from my patio. There is lots of open land out here. I often wonder if people even think about what they are celebrating. When we went into town there were several firework stands open. If it was not for Gertie, I would have sat outside on the patio and watched. I always found it beautiful myself. It just hit me as we are hearing fireworks and it is almost midnight and it is not July 4th! Maybe official display earlier this evening though.

Valerie, you have a lot to worry about when it is dry like that. I bought basil in a plastic cup with roots from Sprouts in the past. They did not always have it though. I am sorry that your sister is not happy with what she gets and cannot figure out things for herself. It has to be terribly frustrating.

Judy, we have had so much rain that it has taken awhile for it to drain in our yard because the vacant lots behind us have a border put up that holds it in right now. Today it did not rain. There is still chances though. At least we were able to get outside and get some things done.

Cathy, nice work on X Train. I have not pulled Cathe's workouts much at all lately.

Carolyn, good job getting in Lite Metabolic Blast. I have done a couple of Obe workouts from the Fitbit coach when I had that.

Carolyn-I've heard of that race. I didn't realize they had to do it over 2 days, but that is a lot of people. I wish I could have done it when I was running all the time. I did the Army 10 Miler in DC in 97 and 98 and I still have those shirts.

Diane Sue-I hope you don't get more rain today.
