Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/23

Today I did an old Chris Freytag dvd for my cardio. I did Fight Cellulite Fast which was minutes and 354 calories burned. My average heart rate was 130 and maximum heart rate was 153. This is a cardio interval workout that moves from level 1 to more intense levels 2 and 3.

I watched a season and a half of This is Us. I enjoyed it, but the emotional highs and lows were too much for me and I was always in tears by the end of the show. I didn’t watch any of the shows last season.

Deb, great job with the treadmill workout yesterday. I really feel Butts and Guts today for some reason.

Diane Sue, there are times that our bodies will let us know that we need rest. I like to switch to a different type workout for a few days which helps me reset. I was thinking about doing that this week as a change from Cathe.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Lori.

Carolyn, I like shows that make me feel good when I am done watching them. I guess why that is why I do not find myself that interested most of the time. I may start, but once I find they are not enjoyable I tend to shut them out and do something else. I do find it very helpful to change types of workouts. I saw that this week there are some lighter workouts coming up from Kelly. Like today's being different from what I usually do. I think I have only done it once since I am really not one to go out of my way to do barre work or non weighted work. I have been hitting upper pretty hard with the workouts and I can feel it. There is one coming up in a couple of days that is perfect 10 and I believe from doing it before it was all non weighted work for total body. Tomorrow should be kettlebell and kickboxing. So, somewhat pulling away from so much on my shoulders. The band work was a couple of sets for each upper body part and barre work, lunges and squats for lower body. Kelly's dog comes into the basement with her in the one she did today. It is cute. I guess she says it doesn't like the timer sounds.

Good morning,

Today I did S&S Bootcamp, one of the time saver premixes, 33 minutes, 197 calories. Yesterday I did 11, 524 steps.

Diane Sue, is that KCM Shape Up cardio from her streaming or a DVD? It does sound tough! Your library system sounds exactly like ours. I hope you are feeling more energetic. Maybe like Carolyn said, you need a couple of days of rest, no workouts at all. Funny about Kelly's dog not liking the timer noise.

Valerie, hope you had a better nights sleep last night. I agree on the topics of some shows not being appealing on the surface, (think: Six Feet Under!), but then they are really good when you watch them.

Hi to Judy & Lori,

Take care,

Carolyn, great calorie burn on that Fight Cellulite Fast workout!

This morning I did Coffey Fit Raw Kettle bell and Kickbox, 31 minutes, heart rate 129 average, 161 max, met 7.2, 189 calories, 1,658 steps followed by Kelly Coffey Athletic Conditioning Volume 2 mix double rounds + core stretch, 35 minutes, heart rate average 115, max 144, 1010 steps met 7.0, 185 calories. Total time was 66 minutes, 2,668 steps, 374 calories. I have my grandson here and we are going to run errands today. Not sure about a workout tomorrow. My husband and I have to leave early for an appointment a 7 in the morning. The Raw workout will be perfect 10 which is all non weighted work. I may make it up Saturday.

Deb, nice work on the steps yesterday. I am sure I had over 10,000, but when we go to the pool I take my Fit Bit off and I was close to 8,994 when we left the house. I won't get as many today, at least I don't think I will :) Tomorrow may be a rest day for me. The Shape Up is a dvd of Kellys. I have rarely done the workouts as they are. If you do weights only mix it is all upper body and the Cardio is what would be the lower body work which has quite a bit of impact in it. Otherwise it is two tabata style workouts alternating upper weight work in 8 rounds with 8 rounds of cardio lower body done in 8 rounds. It was the dvd for the challenge yesterday. When I am adding the dvds to the raw challenge I am mostly doing 1 workout or a premix.

I took yesterday off and spent a couple hours digging out ferns that are taking over several planting beds. this is a serious amount of work, trust me. Ferns grow everywhere here, and have extensive fibrous root systems. I like them but they take over and smother other plants if you let them run in areas you don't want them. they are easier to dig out when dirt is dry. there are more to go but I got the bulk of them, and then it started raining. decent sleep last night. we watched the debates and will watch tonights group too. it was very interesting to watch but I am a political junkie.

Deb 6 feet under is one of my all time favorites! great characters. subtle, nuanced. I started watching it once and didn't like it at first , but we decided to do another look. it was terrific. you are the only other person I know who saw 6 feet. we had to get it on disk from netflix. if the rest of you haven't seen it, it is based on a family who own and run a funeral parlor. so on the surface, you think "how (??)can this be entertaining" , but it was a terrific series. I try to watch beyond the first episode, since sometimes the first episode is amped up to get you hooked, and then after the series will settle down into a rhythm and develop the characters. or not!
Strong work on Bootcamp. wet and rainy today, so I will do something later.

This morning I did X Train Chest, Back, and Shoulders. My time was 60 minutes with 262 calories burned. Average heart rate was 108 and maximum heart rate was 143. My wrist is bothering me a bit today. I think it started with my elbow a while back and has moved down my forearm to my wrist. Holding the dumbbells in certain positions was uncomfortable.

Deb, great job with SS Bootcamp and getting over 11,000 steps yesterday. Certain workouts added to housework or running errands can result in a surprising number of steps.

Diane Sue, I am the same way about television shows—I want them to make me feel good, not depressed or stressed. Nice work with Raw Kettlebell and Kickboxing and Athletic Conditioning.

Valerie, your yard work sounds like all the workout that you needed yesterday. I didn’t watch the debates. It’s too early in the process with too many people for me to watch.

Hello to Judy and Lori. Enjoy your day everyone.

I am back from shopping and stopping at the library to pick up a hold and drop off books. I am so annoyed with myself because I forgot to use my Sprouts app coupon to get 10 dollars off of my over 60 dollars or more. I guess I was in too big of a hurry to get done and take my grandson to get some lunch. Then I got my collagen order from ancient nutrition and the seal was loose on the side of the container and when I opened the lid powder fell all over. Not only that, the two collagen bars I got with my points were melted from the heat. I stuck them in the refrigerator. Then there was supposed to be 5 free collagen sticks, which was my deciding factor price was on using their website instead of ordering through Amazon. They did not put them in and when I looked at my account the blocked out the picture of that item on the shipped part of my account. That makes me mad. I could overlook the loose seal because it was all packaged up and probably beat to death in the mail. I still need to hit the vets office for heartgard and Walmart, but decided I would do it another day, if I can find the fee time. On a positive note, Sprouts now has the multi collagen in Strawberry Lemonade and Cold Brew flavors. I did not care much for the cold brew though. I thought it could take place of some coffee, but not enough coffee taste and it is really sweet with the stevia and monk fruit. I do not like sweet coffee.

Valerie, my husband loves politics and I am sure before I am done I will have more that my fill of it. It grates on my nerves after while. I can't help but listen though. When we had our huge yard with tons of foliage I had so much work to do in the planters. We used to have some kind of wild type of ivy, that wanted to choke out everything else and I was battling like crazy. Also separating plants and shrub trimming that just grew into each other. I do not want to do that again. I love some beauty and plants, but that was too much. My husband hired some guys he knew to clean it out for me for big bucks so I could have a break and make it easier. I would work outside till the sun would go down. The neighbors between us finally hired someone to clean out there side of the long strip of trees and plants which helped a lot too. Because theirs just grew into ours.

Carolyn, my wrists bother me a lot and some angles just set them off. I see Kelly Coffey do stuff on her knuckles instead of flat hands, but that hurts more a lot of the time to me. Even just gripping heavier weights for lower body can make it hurt as we are tightening up the muscles clear down the arm.

I had the wrist discomfort about 2 months ago so had xrays done. the small bones in my wrists & upper part of my hands are disintegrating and fusing together. Great. Bones are doing what they would do surgically to correct the problem, so I guess I'm lucky. arthritis in hands and small joints is pretty common and I am one of the "lucky" ones. doing things with a fist or grabbing around a handle rather than a "flat hand" is much easier. I can still do everything else without discomfort. I am going to see an arthritis specialist but all my labs came back negative, which is good news. after this many years, things are going to wear out I suppose.
I did stacked upper body and core 2 this afternoon. another busy day. we were getting our camper fixed, but it turns out they didn't do the right thing, and it has to be redone. it was made abundantly clear to them what the problem was, but seems like no one listened. so another couple weeks.

we watched the second set of debates and it won't be that hard to decide. I think the field will sort down pretty quickly, to a few people, and then it will get complicated.

Good Morning Ladies. Today I did Lower Body Circuit from Chris Freytag’s Slimdown Xtreme. That was 40 minutes with 258 calories burned. Average heart rate was 126 and maximum heart rate was 157. After that I did JS Total Stretch from the WS3 program for an additional 28 calories.

Valerie, nice work with Stacked Sets Upper Body and Core. How frustrating that the problem with your camper wasn’t fixed properly.

Hello to everyone and have a great day.

No workout today. I got a new HP laptop and am setting it up. Getting used to Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge. I hardly slept last night because my shoulder hurt and I had a terrible headache and neck pain. After we went out the first time I came home and rolled a bit on my foam roller and did some stretching and it is finally receding. Excedrin this morning did not help. We went to breakfast and then did some shopping.

Carolyn, nice work today.

Valerie, I switch up doing things on my hands and sometimes using dumbbells to change up the position so they are not overstressed in one position.

Good evening,

Had to be out on the road by 6:30 this morning, babysitting my friend's grandchildren. No workout today.

Diane Sue, it sounds like you had the same day yesterday that I had today, with babysitting. No errands for me though, as I go to their house to babysit. We play a lot of games, go on a walk etc. I believe I have that Shape Up DVD. I would definitely call them and have everything replaced, and also, ship the 5 free collagen sticks that they left out!

Valerie, digging out plants is definitely it's own workout! We have Day Lilies that take over the garden and right now they need to be thinned out badly. It is very hard work. Yes, absolutely loved 6 Feet Under. I started Better Call Saul....have watched the first 3 episodes. I like it, but am confused a bit. They seem to go back and forth in time, and it takes me a few seconds of wondering what is going on, then I realize it is the past they are doing, not the present. Also, no sign of "Saul" anywhere, no idea who that is yet. LOL. I find that people in some service industries don't really listen to customers at all. So frustrating.

Carolyn, nice job on that Xtrain workout. I keep forgetting about that one. Funny, my wrist is hurting today too, for no apparent reason. Strange.

Hi to Lori & Judy,

Take care,

Deb, we haven't gotten to it yet, but Jimmy McGill changes his name to Saul Goodman and becomes the sleazy lawyer who launders drug money for Walter White. BCS is the history for how he turns from jimmy McGill, into Saul. yes, they go back and forth in time a lot. we are in season 4 now but didn't watch for a few nights so I have not seen the transition yet myself.

OMG daylillies!, you need dynamite for them. we have a lot of daylilies and they go everywhere even in bad conditions. ribbon grass is another evil plant, but easier to pull out.

more car service issues. just had it serviced and seem to have a fluid leak now.

not feeling good today, coughing, sore throat, since yesterday. hopefully it will pass is is maybe allergy related.

Deb, I had lots of daylilies and knockout roses at one of our houses and they were a lot of work to keep up. I was always trimming the dead roses and cleaning up the daylilies, but nice that they come back every year :)

Valerie,

S it better to watch all of BCS before starting BB? I googled "what is the connection between BCS and BB"... It seemslike they intersect all through both series?

Deb, we watched BB long before Saul. BB was released years before Saul if I am correct.
We are not done with Saul yet, another couple episodes to go. I think the writers were smart enough to make each series make sense on its own. characters and events are get connected eventually.
we have watched BB twice. I think Saul was produced after BB was successful. I would continue with Saul as you are doing. I think it will make more sense in the order you are doing right now. some of the confusing events in Saul make more sense to me because I've seen BB and knew where they were heading with it, but I think it will all mesh together. the characters are so interesting and complex. Jimmy McGill is a fascinating guy.

Roses grow well here and if we didn't have deer they'd be worth it. we grew them when we first moved here but every plant had to be caged. Deer LOVE them, will eat them down to nubs. we tried for a while but quit. each plant needed its own fence so it was hard to prune etc. I tried dogwood too. forget it. they ate every sprig. I stick to plants deer aren't interested in. some plants they eat one year and then ignore later. hostas are like that. this year they like hostas, but they are eating them slowly. strawberries are consumed roots and all. you can try fencing them off but usually doesn't work for long. daylilies they don't touch.

I'm feeling better today, looks like the virus will pass by.

Today is a semi rest day. I did Jane Adams’ Morning Energy Yoga for 18 minutes. I decided to skip the Bis and Tris to give my arm and wrist a break.

After reading your discussion about Breaking Bad, I realized that we have a copy of the full first season. I think my daughter gave it to my husband because they liked the show so much. We’ve never watched it. I will remind him that he has it and we can watch it together.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day.

It's been a busy week. I only had one day off, so not much time to do anything enjoyable. One more week of this then I can get my life back to normal. On my day off, yesterday, I did Fit Tower Advanced Total Body.
Hopefully I can get back to posting more next week.

Judy

This morning I did Coffey Fit Raw Intervals 3, 27 minutes, heart rate average 131, max 162, 1,980 steps, met 6.5, 170 calories. I then did Cathe Lite Cardio Party, 39 minutes, met 8.0, 283 calories, heart rate average 145, max 180, 3,716 steps. I finished with Lite extended stretch 2, 13 minutes, 35 calories, 27 steps. Total time was 79 minutes, 488 calories, 5,723 steps. I am behind on things. I have had so much keeping me busy that I have hardly had time to read posts or anything.

Valerie, you would think deer would leave plants with thorns alone, but I guess cows eat them too. It would not be worth it to have to cage the flowers and plants to enjoy them anyway.

Judy, I am sure that you are ready for hours that give you more time for yourself as well.

Carolyn, I had a full rest day yesterday so am hoping to make up the Perfect 10 workout from Raw if I have time in the morning.
