Good morning,

Agility class yesterday. We had a lot of fun.

Valerie, it sounds like you had a really nice ride. 26 miles is great.

Carolyn, I don't blame you for not feeling up to a workout, with that heat and humidity. There are so many choices with grills now. We have a Weber and are pretty happy with it. It is a pain to keep clean though.

Diane Sue, sorry about your neck pain. I have never used a foam roller. I remember reading about how painful they can be. Dr Mercola just had an article about things to use and described using a foam roller. I guess you are not supposed to actual "roll" where the pain is? Since I have never had one, I am not sure about that. We never had margarine or oleo in the house. My father insisted on using real butter. I used to want margarine because it was soft and easy to spread.

Hi to Judy and Lori,

Going to an obedience match today at our club. Need the practice for the upcoming 3 day trial next weekend.

Take care.

The trail we ride is partly wooded, forty miles long. every year areas where asphalt has heaved are repaired to keep it smooth. Tree roots raise it up and split asphalt, make surface lumpy and rippled . Sections can get washboard like. It’s an annual ritual. Repair as needed. The heaves are hard to see in shaded areas or where light is dappled. It can get dangerous to fast riders .

I’ve never used a grill where everything didn’t stick to the surface. I nmainly cook chicken breasts. now use a cast iron frying/ grill pan preheated. I tried every tip to prevent sticking and nothing helped. the only reason we have a grill is to keep heat and smoke outside in summer. We have a small Weber here and a small Kitchen Aid at our new house. I occasionally grill some vegies where problem isn't so much sticking, but falling thru the grate.
Deb, I use butter . As a kid in Wisconsin, we used margarine. Butter was too expensive but colored margarine was not |
"legal". people drove to the state line and bought colored margarine from other states. Crazy, I know. The dairy lobby only allowed white margarine with a tablet of yellow dye in the package. you would “massage” the package to spread the dye to make it yellow. It was ridiculous! I don’t know when that changed but I never developed a like for either butter or margarine.

Some serious garden work yesterday and a road ride planned this morning.

Good morning ladies!

Beautiful and hot today! We are ready to lounge in the pool for Father’s day. Friday was a SB lower body workout that worked my legs deep. I followed up with a LEKfit bounce only. Yesterday was SBF Upper Body Core Circuit, then a LEKfit bounce with upper and lower strength. I am feeling this one today. I was talking to a coworker that I have known for years. She was looking for a workout she could do with her 14 year old daughter. She knows all about my Cathe love but wanted something different. So of course I recommended rebounding. She looked into it and is ordering 2 Jumpsports so they can workout together. They are having a sale with 10% off. Not much but brought it down to $269 which is reasonable.

Funny story...my son and I went to the Release place to order lunch to go and check out the place. Now if you remember by son is full of tattoos, has a beard and large gauges but he is the most kindest, sweetest man. But to look at him he can be scary! Well we walk in and all we see are mature women in robes having lunch. My son immediately look at me and says silently “well this is awkward”. It was funny. Apparently, inbetween spa treatments they all come for lunch still in their robes. It was a little odd as the cafe is open to the public. We ordered lunch and left quickly! :)

Deb...hope your hip is 100%. The Release place is amazing but not for me. Yes I find it pricey. Lunch for the both or us was a total of $42. We each got a sandwich and a small smoothie. It was delicious but not an everyday lunch. I have 3 day passes thay were given to me. I will use for a Barre class and after use their spa. My husband wants to come with me. He will pass on the Barre though. That is so sad about your friend. Hoping all turns out well.

Judy..we biked or walked everywhere too. Thought nothing of it no matter the distance. When I was 6 years old I remember walking to first grade about 1 1/2 miles away. Could never let your child do that now. The world is different for sure. Great ride the other day. The hydromassage sounded like it would have been wonderful. Such a let down.

Diane Sue...I bet you get tons of steps watching your grandchildren! I have no desire to do a TA workout. I seen a couple on Youtube and read some reviews on 2lazy4gym. Jen’s review on one of them made me laugh. Hope your neck pain has subsided.

Carolyn...we are out very rarely too. My mom was a single mom with 5 kids. Going out to eat was usually for pizza and only on a special occaison. It would be a big deal! 20 year old grill! That must have served you well. I think it is going to hit 90 here today. Glad we got the pool all set. Thanks for clarification on the workouts. I did have knockout and rock em confused! So many! I liked the Ice low impact workouts. I may do one of them today.

Valerie...nice ride the other day. Funny I never liked asparagus growing up. I thought it was horrible. Then one day later in life I had it at a resturant and was amazed at how delicious it was. My mom use to always cook it so it was soggy and loaded with butter. Everything was loaded with butter. Once I had it cooked properly then wow! Loved it. I remember her buying cans of crisco solid and everything was cooked with this. Yes times have changed!

Have a great day everyone!

This morning I did WS3 One Mile of Motivation for 15 minutes and 120 calories burned. Average heart rate was 123 and maximum heart rate was 146. After that I did a Jane Adams Gentle Yoga Flow with standing poses. That was 23 minutes and an additional 23 minutes. It was a nice gentle workout.

Lori, that’s funny about your lunch at the Release Spa! That would definitely be an awkward experience.

Our grill is heavy duty and is attached to the natural gas line. It needs to be refurbished, but we can’t find anyone to do the work. We have decided that it’s easier to replace it and the cost is not much more. Our grill is like an extension of the kitchen and gets used year round. We also have a Napoleon grill that my daughter won on the Price is Right in 2002. She went to California with her roommate on her semester break and they decided to go to the show. She ended up winning that grill, a beautiful brass baby cradle, and a new Ford Ranger. She is still driving the truck!

Hello to everyone and I hope you are having a fantastic day.

We did our "farm country" road ride this morning, 24 miles. several of the roads are prepped for chip sealing so we won't be able to ride for at least several weeks due to the paving process. loose gravel gets left all over, hard on car windshields and skinny tires. it was a lovely morning but some sections thru the downtown area were questionable this morning. homeless people, druggies wandering around.

Carolyn and anyone else who grills regularly... what do you do to keep food from sticking? I think I've tried everything. we run the grill after use to burn off residue. have tried lightly oiling the surface with oil on a brush or towel. so far my best luck has been a solid surface cast iron fry pan/grill pan preheated thoroughly. we do boneless skinless chicken breasts, not much else. I would do fish but no way would that hold together on a grill surface. might work on a cast iron pan. vegies like peppers, zucchini..... issues with things falling thru. that is fabulous your daughter won all those great prizes.

Valerie, we spray the grill racks with Pam. Spraying first, then wiping on your oil before putting the chicken on the grill works for us. We don’t really have a problem with things sticking. I have a grill rack with holes in it that we place on the grill for vegetables and small items.

thanks...we bought some special grill spray from I think weber. do you have the grill hot and then spray it on, or do it when cold? I have a basket with holes and use it for vegies sometimes. not sure if I sprayed and then wiped on oil? I've done both but maybe not together. usually marinate chicken in something with oil but sticks anyway. bad karma. I used to do corn but I don't like the supersweet kind and that's all I can find.

No workout today. The family came over after church today and bought brisket and baked potatoes. My neck feels much better today. Hoping to keep it that way. My plans for shoulders, chest and triceps has been out of the question. Maybe I will get some weight work in this next week. Shoulders, maybe not.

Deb, you are supposed to find the areas where you feel the most pain, then stay in that area, maybe stopping for a bit till it subsides a bit. Usually if you do this for a few days those sore spots and knots loosen up and it hurts less. It is an indicator of where you need the most work. Also, there is areas that you don't roll like joints, neck, below mid back to lower back. I have got a lot more relief by doing the rolling along with some stretching. You really are supposed to put less pressure on till you start getting better then gradually add a bit more pressure. You might be rolling a bout an inch here or there at a time trying to find the sore spots.

Valerie, it is sad when they have to disguise a product like oleo to make it sell better. Even Crisco finally came out with a butter flavored yellow version. I used to use it for pies and finally reverted to butter. Still the best pie crust I ever had for texture and flakiness was one I made using the ingredients a restaurant I cooked in had. It had lard and vinegar and a bit of baking powder in it. At least it wasn't an artificial product. Just not healthy. I was going to mention the grill rack that Carolyn just mentioned. Chicken has no real fat and is more apt to stick. I have tried putting foil on the grill and cutting cuts in it for the smoke to get to it for flavor. It still stuck with cooking spray. Maybe the release foil would work. Try rubbing a little oil on the actual chicken breasts. I have wondered if fish could be cooked in one of those baskets. I clean my grill after every use and put the racks in the dishwasher after I scrub them. My son in law has made fun of me for not just scraping it down after cooking. I want it clean, can't help it.

Lori, that is funny about the ladies in their robes. I bet they were uncomfortable. Looks can often be deceiving as to the person's personality. Maybe men don't go in there that much? 42 dollars is an awful lot for a sandwich and a smoothie for both of you. I walked to school with my Aunt when who was twelve when in kindergarten and home by myself. I remember figuring out how to walk the long way home out onto a main street because there was a big sounding dog in a yard with a floppy fence that would growl and bark going nuts when I would walk by and and the fence would shake. I was scared of it. No way can we let a young child walk like that . I will have to go see if I can find that review on Tracey Anderson just for a laugh. Honestly, I knew what her other workouts were like, I don't know why I thought the rebounding one would be any better. Asparagus has to be lightly steamed or roasted to be good. My mother did buy that in cans a lot and those were so much like limp mushy noodles. I still liked them as a kid though.

Carolyn, that is cool that your daughter won the cradle, grill, and truck.

Good morning,

We did 2 runs in an obedience match yesterday, in preparation for the trials this weekend. We would have qualified in one, but not the other. I hope we do better this weekend.

Valerie, that trail sounds great, as long as it is maintained. Not sure what others do for the grill sticking issue. We have tried praying the grates of the grill with olive oil spray or something similar. When you say you use a cast iron fry pan, that is actually on the grill? or do you mean in the house on the stove top?

Lori, that great about your co-worker and her daughter. Nice that they have something that they can do together. That is odd that the women are sitting in a public eating place in robes.

Carolyn, wow that is amazing about your daughter winning all that stuff!

Diane Sue, glad your neck is better. John turns the grill on to a really high setting after we take off the food, and also takes the grates into the basement and scrubs them along with the burners every couple of times we use it.

Hi to Judy!

Take care,

Today I did Flex Train for 59 minutes and 279 calories burned. My average heart rate was 113 and maximum heart rate was 152. Flex Train is a great metabolic workout.

Valerie, I like to spray the grill when it’s cold, however, my husband insists on doing it just before he puts the food on. That scares me because I don’t think it’s safe, but I can’t get him to change. I have heard barbecue experts and chefs say that meat sticks when you try to turn it over too soon. It should release from the grill surface once you get a good sear on the under side. I usually marinate skinless boneless chicken breast too because they are so bland otherwise. The vegetables that I like to grill are portobellos, zucchini, red peppers, and onions. I’m not a big corn fan, so we rarely do that.

It was funny when my daughter called to tell us that she just won a truck we didn’t believe her. It took her a while to convince us that it was true.

Diane Sue, I hope your neck continues to feel better.

Hello to Deb, Lori, and Judy. Have a nice afternoon everyone.

diane sue... the margarine story is ancient history. it was funny with Wisconsin nicknamed "the dairy state" that at the time, butter was so expensive. I was a kid so maybe my mother over reacted, but people used to get together and buy margarine ( oleo) at stores just across the state line. neighbors would buy a case for each other to save the 80 mile trip. we went to IIlinois.
they would buy by the case. one pound packages of 4 sticks and looked like butter. the only oleo in Wisconsin stores was in white, in a clear bag that needed to warm up to squeeze in a tablet of yellow dye to make it look like "butter". but it was in his misshapen clear 1 lb plastic bag! it looked like lard without the dye tablet. my mother used butter for baking and margarine for most other uses. for whatever reasons, I never developed a taste for either. my best pie crust is an oil and brown butter one. it tastes great but the dough is tricky to work with. I think lard smells like rancid meat so never touch the stuff. I know it's popular for pie crust but I can smell where it comes from.

Deb I have an old Lodge cast iron frying pan. also a cast iron grill pan. I put them on the rack in the barbecue when I turn it on. pan heats as the grill pre heats. (I use them the same way inside on the cooktop) when they are hot, I streak on a dab of oil, oil and season the chicken, then in the pan. as long as the pan is clean and seasoned, nothing sticks. because of the solid bottom, they are easy to shovel the chicken off, and no bars for pieces to fall thru. the grill doesn't get dirty and cleaning the pan is much easier than the whole grill. I pound the chicken breasts so the thickness is uniform. This works pretty well for us. it also eliminates cleaning the grill itself very often. It still annoys me though that most people grill without everything getting attached to the grill bars.
sometimes I think DH has the grill too hot and that was why it stuck. He overdoes to be sure it is "cooked". I got tired of over cooked chicken, half which fell between the grill bars. we bought some special grill spray that is safe to use with an open flame. has not helped much.

ETA I looked up Lodge pans. they have clear instructions on how to clean and season a pan. it works nicely. I've had good success with these pans pan since cleaning and re-seasoning. DH was cleaning with way too much detergent. took all the "seasoning" off the surface. yes, I'm complaining about how DH did the dishes! you can use a little soap but too much removes the seasoning.

the ride yesterday was not a trail, but on mostly smaller farm roads. minimal traffic. there are a few busy spots. 3 bridges and the downtown area in Mt Vernon. we ride early so 2 of the bridges are quiet, 3rd busy one has a walkway. disturbing to see all the druggies and homeless people living out of their cars that we need to go past. that is where the only bathrooms are, and we go in one at a time so we can watch out bikes and I always look for "activity" before I let the door shut.

Deb, great Kylee is doing so well. do you bring keegan along for the events too?

Lori that is pretty expensive for a sandwich and a smoothie. Hope it was a really GOOD sandwich. we have noticed that what used to be a tab for dinner at a restaurant has evolved into the tab for lunch.

Valerie, that’s a good way to cook on the grill. I have several pieces of Lodge cast iron. It works very well with proper care. Having the fire too high will definitely ruin skinless boneless breast. My husband always wants to cook it too long. Our agreement now is that if he thinks it needs a “few more minutes” it’s time to take it off!

Carolyn that is a good rule to have inn place. I know about "just a few more minutes' the same as you. he is always afraid of undercooking and then over does it. that's why we don't grill much. I picked up 2 new cast iron pans at costco a few weeks ago for our new house. very inexpensive and seem to be good quality and are pre seasoned. I had a small Lodge grill pan there already. the cleaning and seasoning procedure worked nicely.
our exhaust fan ( new house) does not vent outside so I want to cook chicken outside to keep down food smells.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a short indoor ride and today I did XTrain Cardio Leg Blast, Premix 1 (with Core 2). It was so hot yesterday and today! We had heat advisories both days and the temps were close to 100. It's 93 right now. I spent some time outside and got some sun but I didn't get any outdoor training in. We spent a good part of yesterday at Lowes. We talked with one of the planners there about our kitchen and upstairs bathroom plans. I think we will have Lowes or Home Depot do most of that work. We're making progress on the half bath, but not quite done yet. Hopefully it will be done by next week.

Deb-Good luck at the trials this weekend!

Lori-That is funny about the spa. I would have thought that was a little odd too. I remember walking to school. It was probably the same distance, about a mile and a half. My mom walked with me when I was in kindergarten then I started walking by myself in the 1st grade. Almost all the kids walked to school then. No one thought anything of it at all.

Carolyn-That is so cool that your daughter won those prizes! Great job with Flex Train!

Valerie-You have been getting some great rides in! I'm hoping Chris and I can get out to Kensington Metropark this summer and get some rides in. The traffic has gotten so bad here that I won't even try to ride anywhere except on a dedicated path.

Diane Sue-I'm glad your neck is feeling better.

Judy

My workout is finished. I did the other half of Amy Bento Ross All Cardio Hi/Lo knockout with the core ,quick mix 2, 61 minutes, 397 calories, 3,621 steps, average heart rate 122, max 160. I also did Kelly Coffey Build and Burn Tabata Legs using 15# dumbbells throughout since I really didn't want to push it. This was 27 minutes, 134 calories, heart rate 110 average, max 138. Total time was 88 minutes and calories burned 531. Steps so far today 4,794. I had an appointment with my doctor this afternoon, so am just getting here. She did a punch biopsy on something I was having checked out. We don't think it is anything, but she wants to make sure. I have my mammogram Friday and will go back to the doctors office to get the labs done for my upcoming physical. I had tried to make my appointment both the physical and the other, but they said I had to wait 2 weeks between? I made some meatballs with sundried tomatoes in them and butternut squash saturday with my Instantpot. It turned out well and I cubed the rest of the squash so I could refrigerate some and freeze the other part for another meal. There was a mushroom stew recipe I saw that I would like to try. I still need to buy the mushrooms as it calls for white mushrooms and shitake mushrooms. I bought beets to cook. My daughter in law baked her potatoes in her instantpot yesterday.

Deb, I hope things go well this weekend. Wishing you luck. Ours is a charcoal smoker grill so I just let it cool and then clean it.

Carolyn, I do all of the grilling myself, unless it is a family thing and my son in law will help do it. I probably turn the meat too soon. I am always afraid of charring it on the outside and it not being cooked enough internally and I put it around the outer edge of the heat. My sister and brother in law won their house once. They bought a new home in California and there was a drawing for the area and theirs was paid for.
A vehicle would be a great thing to win. I remember my mother being all excited when she won a television from a furniture store :) I have never won anything substantial. I bet you probably all thought she was joking :)

Valerie, I love the taste of browned butter in cooking. I have a crust recipe that has went well with family that has butter and pecans in it. Butter crust does not have the flaky texture of shortening and lard , but tastes so much better anyway. It is hard to believe anyone would go out of their way to get oleo. I told my husband last night that it was funny that my daughter in law bought a country crock tub of margarine in with the baked potatoes that she had made and I put out butter in a bowl. No one bothered to open the margarine and she took it home. I did not mind the lard at the time, but I find more foods and their odors distasteful now. Even the collagen powders that I use, I try not to smell them. Knowing that the ones that are not bone broth collagen come from cowhides makes it smell like what it is to me. I tried two scoops in my coffee recently and I swear I could taste and smell it. Usually the coffee will disguise one scoop. If it didn't help my joints I wouldn't use it. I got some bone broth collagen powder which is better, but doesn't dissolve as well in coffee so I have to stir it into something else. I use salt and some oil to scrub my cast iron, then rinse and season and put in the oven. When I preheat the oven it helps cook the seasoning on and keeps the bacteria down. I had read never to wash cast iron with soap as it does strip the seasoning.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, and today I am so tired, a horrible night's sleep. I have a class at 11:00...not sure I can make it without a nap first.

Carolyn, are you doing the June rotation?

Valerie, that "butte" mix sounds awful. I don't remember anything like that here. Maybe there was but since my father would only let real butter be in our house I may have missed it. I don't remember seeing that at a friend's house either. We have a Lodge cast iron pan too. It is so heavy, I can't imagine taking it out to cook on the grill. Isn't is the same as using it on a stove top? By "re-season" it means just coat with oil before putting it away right?

Judy, you are going to remodel the kitchen as well! That's exciting! We walked to school as well. Everyone did. There were no buses then. I was lucky, the school was right on the corner of our block.

Diane Sue, hope all goes well with the biopsy. My mother made the best pie crusts...she used Crisco. I can't imagine putting bone broth powder in coffee.

HI to Lori,

Take care,

Deb-I'm sorry about your sleep :( I hope you get some rest today. It is exciting to be remodeling! Chris is very motivated to get everything done over the next year. We want to improve the condo for ourselves, and also to have it ready to sell when we move.

Diane Sue- I had a punch biopsy for a mole on my foot a couple of years ago. I hope yours is ok.

To re season cast iron , clean the pan with soap water and steel wool getting off rust and burned on crud. rinse an dry then lightly coat with a neutral oil. bake inverted in the oven for a hour. When I get to my desktop I’ll put in a link to the lodge video . Steel wool really works! The pan works like new again. I didn’t know how to do this before. Pan is heavy and need to be careful not to slide it on a glass cooktop. It works on the grill just like the cooktop but any smoke and spatter is outside sp no smoke alarms going off. and chicken doesn’t stick like it does on the grill bars.
If your chicken works directly on the grill then probably more bother than it’s worth.

ETA there are a whole range of opinions o_O on how to clean and season a cast iron pan. many contradict each other about what to use and how to do it. lot of detergent removes the seasoning. sometimes pans get rusty or cooked on crud won't come off with regular scrubbing so I used steel wool to get the pan clean. rinsed it well, dried, lightly coated with canola oil and baked upside down in 400 degree oven for an hour and let it cool in the oven. the pan looks and works great now. so I think there are a range of ways to accomplish this. my pan was a Lodghe so I followed a video from their site.

Cooking and ingredients have changed from the 50’s. Olive oil was unheard of, at least in my family. canned solid shortening like Crisco, a lot of margarine, some lard, and real butter only for special occasions or baking. Solid shortening like Crisco didn’t need refrigeration so maybe that was a benefit because refrigerators were small. I never used it. used liquid oils, and a little butter. My mother said butter was very expensive. Crisco, Lard and margarine were cheaper . I remember Wesson oil in the cabinet too.

This morning I did 4 Day Split Kickboxing only premix for 38 minutes and 257 calories burned. My average heart rate was 130 and maximum heart rate was 161.

Deb, I’m doing a loose interpretation of the June rotation. This week I switched the Monday and Tuesday workouts then I did 4 Day Split instead of Kick Max. I needed something a bit shorter than Kick Max because I had a service technician scheduled to come between 8:00 and 10:00.

Judy, great job with Cardio Leg Blast. That’s one of my favorite lower body workouts. Your remodeling projects sound very exciting. Getting it all done will give you a chance to enjoy the results before you decide to sell.

Diane Sue, great job with Amy Bento Ross and KCM workouts. You’re wise to take it easy on the upper body.

Valerie, I have noticed that there is conflicting information about whether or not to use soap to clean cast iron. My mother and grandmother both used Lodge cast iron skillets and dutch ovens so I have always followed their methods for caring for them. I wash with soap sometimes, but it depends on what I cooked. I always dry it immediately and I put it in the oven like Diane Sue to complete the drying if I have used the oven. I apply a light coating of the neutral oil for storage but again I don’t do that every time.

Hello to Lori.

I slept without a pillow last night. It wasn't the most restful night, but my neck was better this morning. My dog came in to wake me at 4 am needing to go outside. I think she had disturbed me a couple of hours earlier because I woke up twice hearing something that I thought was her moving around. She generally stays in the living room on her bed and doesn't move around. I am tired of my neck hurting. I try to go as long as I can without taking Advil or something. I tried Four Sigmatic Golden latte mix two nights and got away with that and 1 Advil. I am trying to work around my injuries and get the stretching and mobility in.
I started my workout with X10 low impact and when she did the weight segments I did biceps instead of upright rows and overhead press. This was 26 minutes, 160 calories, heart rate average 126, max 166, 1,580 steps. I then did Ice muscle melt down triceps, 16 minutes, 70 calories and finished off with Kelly Coffey Body Design yoga, 13 minutes, heart rate average 99, max 114, 34 calories. I also did yoga tune up neck and middle back, but didn't start my Fit Bit for that part. Workout was 54 minutes, 264 calories. I used 12 and 15# dumbbells for triceps.

Deb, I don't mind the regular collagen as 1 scoop in coffee. I don't notice that one when it is in there, but two is offensive. It takes two scoops of Dr Axe multi collagen(has fish collagen in it with other sources) two have as much protein as 1 scoop of the bone broth protein pure. Bone broth doesn't dissolve as easily and is brown in color. I hope that you got some rest. It is terrible having something to do and being that tired.

Judy, the remodeling will be so nice. I am sure you will be rewarded with how it looks when you are done. Most of those things are not a big deal, but it is best to know so it can be taken care of if it is something.

Valerie, I have read the Lodge site's suggested cleaning and seasoning. I read a lot of them as well. My skillets are Lodge. I was using bacon grease to season , but I do not like the taste that comes out in my food or stir fry. Now I use coconut oil. I read the tip on one of those facebook tip things to use the salt and oil. It works in between to get the crusty stuff off. One thing I do not care for in seasoning is smelling the pan bake in the oven for so long. I think once they discovered soybean was cheap they converted almost all oils and margarine to soybean. When you read the history on some of the oils and olio it makes one wonder why they use them for human consumption. Mostly for monetary gain. Canola comes from rapeseed. I avoid soy products. Butter can be left out for a few days without refrigeration as long as it isn't in the heat. My mother used to keep hers in the cupboard so it was soft. I guess we went through it pretty quickly. I remember when we would go to peoples homes and they would pull out a big nasty looking cast iron skillet that looked like it had had a half inch of bacon grease in it. They cooked the bacon and tossed in the eggs and pancakes to cook in the same grease. Then just left it sit in the oven. That seems to me like it would carry a lot of bacteria. Let alone, I always hated when someone gave me pancakes that tasted like bacon grease. I remember buying corn oil and peanut oil when we were first married 45 years ago.

Carolyn, I tried putting my cast iron in the cupboard with my pans after seasoning once and it attracted ants. It works best to keep in the oven. They do sell some seasoning product on Amazon, but I wouldn't spend the money for it. I have read that some oils work better than others. Some become sticky and hard to remove and do not do as well for making it where food doesn't stick. Nice workout today. I keep finding myself looking for something shorter. I have my grandson here today and should be going out to pick up my husbands vehicle.
