Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/9

This afternoon I did Cathe Low Impact Challenge, 51 minutes, 246 calories, heart rate 120/144, 4,917 steps. I have not done this in a real long time and my calorie burn with this watch was 100 less than in the past. My heart rate dropped out for awhile and I kept moving the Fitbit around hoping it would come back. It was low when it did. I rebooted it this morning when I was trying to get the new scale to pick up on Fit bit. It says it does. I even found a link on the website that said I was linked and when I stand on the scale next time Fitbit will be working with it. I did this last night too and nothing happened. I also am thinking maybe my scale is only operating off of Bluetooth with the Health Mate app (theirs) and not wifi. So, I have to figure it out. I does pick up my calories from MFP and shows most of the stats except steps and weather. It says on the app that it needs to be hooked up to wifi to show weather. Not that I really need to know the weather when I step on my scale. I guess it would be nice if I am weighing when getting ready to bathe or something and am going out afterwar. Funny kind of feature for a scale.
I also did Raw Core Moves with the stability ball, 24 minutes, 46 calories, heart rate 96/128, 211 steps.
Total time was 75 minutes, 5,128 steps.

Carolyn, I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10 inch tablet with the largest memory I could get. I really like it. It is a little smaller than the 12.5 I had before, but travels with me in my purse a lot easier. It goes all over the place with me. Gertie, has her set schedules too. It has been difficult. Even when my husband is off work and up at night he lets me put her out before bed and give her her bedtime cookie when I go to bed. He says she is waiting on the rug by the door when he comes in in the mornings from work. Funny thing though is when she sees him dressed for work and if he sits in his chair she pesters him to leave so she can have a goodbye cookie. She has this thing going on when I feed my husband and her and go back to get whatever I am going to eat, I have to sit for a second like I am going to eat, she runs to my husband to let him know that he needs to tell me she wants to go outside. I can never let her out first and then sit down to eat. It doesn't work that way. Same as she tells him when she wants met to let her out. She looks at me while she is doing it. Not talking lol, but you know dogs have their way of telling you things. Gertie eats at 6 and she will let my husband know I need to feed her. We laugh at her, because when he is not here, she does not have him to make me do things and I make her wait. He spoils her. I told him she does not really want to go outside all day, till he comes in and sits down and then it is a game or something.

Valerie, I usually get the Atlantic salmon at the meat counter in Sprouts and they let me point out which filet I want. I cut it up and put in freezer bags in two portion size pieces. It works for me as I will eat the left over the next day. I had one guy offer to cut it up for me in the store once and that was nice. I tried the wild salmon and it had bones in it that I was not expecting and I thought it had a strong off taste so never purchased it again. I have only liked the tuna steaks and the Atlantic salmon there. The halibut was expensive and awful and I have learned to pay attention because when they are having sales sometimes that fish does not seem very fresh that is in the display. The cod was awful too. Fell apart in the pan in a mushy sort of falling apart.
My husband keeps getting up to go to his work to take care of things that can only be taken care of in the daytime and then coming home tired. He did that today because he needed to get another key card because his was not working. So, he slept 7-11 and after dinner he went back to bed and told me to wake him at 7:30 so he could get ready and leave for work. When there are daytime things to do it really messes you up. I should be in bed myself. It's almost 1 again. Worst was when he was first a police officer and our children were small he had rotating shifts. They changed every month. We never adjusted. It was nice when that all changed.
Wow on the cat and the squirrel. I would have never thought that a cat would do that, or could do that. So far Gertie has caught one squirrel and that was when she was a pup and we had a lot of trees and a larger yard. Otherwise it has been lizards and frogs. I try to scoot them out where she doesn't see them.

Carolyn, I printed up that recipe that Judy posted. I need to get out some salmon to thaw and try it. It will be so much better on weekends as my husband has been getting up to go to church on Sundays and coming home and going back to bed after lunch. Mother's day we both stayed home since the family was coming over. My allergies are acting up and I did not want to worry people at church along with thinking maybe going around people at church and then having my family all here right after might be pushing it. The headbands sound like a good idea. My mask has two elastic bands and one goes over my hears and the other under. It has a piece around the nose that is pliable to form to the nose. I got it years ago and just wash it after I go out with it on. It seems to stay up well. I see people messing with theirs in stores or people that are working. I don't get the ones that wear them under their nose. Not sure what that is supposed to do. Like probably nothing.

Judy, sometimes it helps to take a break from a rotation. I tend to lose interest when I am doing the same type of workouts day after day. Right now I am not feeling real motivated. Maybe just because I am tired most of the time with all of the odd hours.

no workout yesterday. when it was drizzling in the morning, we decided to do some projects. first was Lowes trip. geez they are out of everything. needed some little "o" rings to fix the power washer and they were out. there are serious downsides to getting every little thing made in china. we needed some replacement wall plugs and they had one. ONE! other things we needed were totally out. then I found another major credit card sitting on a shelf. DH is not impressed but I'm impressed! this is at least the 5th card I've found in the last year or two. I turn in to customer service but I'm amazed at how many people drop their cards. if I found this many by chance, how many are out there lying loose in stores? right in plain sight.
Diane sue our cat was a serious hunter. gray squirrel was half his size but he proudly brought it back to us. it was not seriously injured, we got them separated without anyone getting bitten, let it go. you can tell when a cat is mad at you! he used to find garter snakes and toss them in the air like he was doing a stir fry. he was a great kitty.

for me the switching back and forth from shift to shift was terrible. I was always tired and sleep deprived. glad to switch back to day shift.
The local casino opened yesterday. What a disaster! traffic backed up to the freeway, news helicopters swirling around, and it took us > half an hour to go a mile. we hope this is not going to be the "new normal". they are the first to open, against all recommendations. every time we go anywhere we will have to be prepared for a bad drive the last mile and a half. no way around it. there are two narrow roads that were completely blocked by stalled traffic. don't know what will happen if there's an emergency or a fire but it wont be pretty. greedy bastards.

DH and I both think the virus issue is far from over and that "opening up" is a serious mistake in most areas. we have a box of disposable masks, but they wash and dry nicely, as do lightweight garden gloves. I keep several of each in our cars so we can peel out of them and have a fresh one there in case we have several stores to stop at. the garden gloves are much better than the throw away ones, more comfortable and stronger. I got a pack for each of us at costco for about $10 each.

I didn’t work out today. I needed to go to the grocery store and wanted to go early, as usual. I debated with myself on doing curbside pickup, but decided against it this week.

Diane Sue, great job with Low Impact Challenge. I haven’t done that one in years. I don’t remember it well, but I think of it as being hard.

Valerie, I agree that the virus issue is far from being over. That’s why I decided that we need a variety of masks and headbands. We will be wearing them for a while, especially my youngest as she goes through treatment.

Hello to Deb, Judy, and Lori.

Hi all,

No workout today. Another rest day for me. I had to go to a Dollar Tree to get balloons. We are participating in a "Drive By Birthday Celebration for my friend's 6 year old grandson today.

Diane Sue, good job on Cathe's LIS. That scale sounds pretty complicated. We have one of those balance type old fashioned doctor's scales. All it has is one little screw to adjust the weights if it gets out of whack. Nothing to plug in, no batteries, etc. Yep, dogs have their ways to communicate for sure. :). I can see why you would be tired, with the different shift your husband is on. Thanks for the info on the Samsung tablet. I really like my phone and I think the tablet sounds like a good buy.

Valerie, that is strange that you have found all those credit cards. I have never found one. People must be thankful that someone turns them in. What happened with your casino is what I am afraid of. More also, that people are just going to take the fact that things are open to drop all the distancing, masks etc, I can't imagine how social distancing would work in a casino.

Hi to Judy, Lori & Carolyn,

Take care,

will do an indoor workout shortly. did not stop raining this morning.

Deb, its weird! I found most on the floor. several in grocery stores, the one in Lowes yesterday, one on a hiking trail. I saw a flash in the sunlight when we passed someone on the trail, looked down, and saw a cc in the weeds. the lowe's one was on a lower shelf below something we were looking at. I found a cellphone on a belt clip with entire men's wallet clipped to it in a Safeway one time. I give myself a pat on the back for being aware. I'm good at spotting snakes too. I always turn them( wallets and cc's) in but I never know if they get back to the owner. I found a wallet in the snow long ago while we were skiing. it happens to me often. I found a really nice pocket knife last week on a hiking trail. at least the 3rd or 4th knife I found. when we ski places snowmobiles use, I always find tools. and cash. beautiful pair of down gloves. lots of trash too.
apparently yesterday was a one time event at the casino. its not chaos today. the casino is making a big deal about all the distancing, and mask wearing, temp checks etc. I'm afraid that when things open up it all preventive procedures will be forgotten especially bars and restaurants. Can't eat or drink with a mask on. I don't like wearing a mask but I will do it to avoid exposure.

I don't remember Low Impact Challenge. is it part of a series?

Today I did Coffey Fit Raw Box & Pump 3, 58 minutes, 249 calories, 3,942 steps, heart rate 118/164. I used a 35# barbell, 15 dbs, and 10 dbs for this. I followed with Fit Bit "Pop Sugar" 15 minute at home cardio no running, 15 minutes, 66 calories, 1,009 steps, heart rate 118/148. It lost my heart rate for a bit I wish I could figure out how to get my steps and stuff to sync with the scale app. I put my workout today as boxing in the Withings dashboard for my scale and it told me I did not work up much of a sweat for the calories I burned. So I changed it to Weights and it was okay with my calorie burn for that. Kind of weird. I did work up a sweat! There are other apps that work with the scale, but I hate to get a whole bunch of fitness apps. Fit bit can link to Strava and the scale can link to strava, but I am unfamiliar with that app. It seems more for running and cycling and that sort of thing. The scale is picking up from map my fitness so map my fitness gets my weigh ins and it goes to the Fitbit dashboard.
Box & Pump 3 weights are done 1 minute each exercise Also there are some kicks with the boxing as this one has more focus on lower than the other two box and pump workouts. I love this one and the music is good.
boxing
squats 35# barbells
squats 15# dbs
plies holding two dbs together and coming up on toes in the lowered position before rising 10# dbs
reverse lunge 35# barbell
good morning 10# dbs
boxing
front lunge 35# barbell
bulgarian split squat (I used 3 risers and my high step) 15# dbs
curtsy lunge alterating 10# dbs could have gone heavier and if I had looked at my notes I had that down
boxing
side to side step with loop band
squat side to side with loop band
kick leg back with loop band
boxing
side lying clams shell with loop band
bridges with loop band open and close knees
stretch

I intend to get to bed tonight before 2 am. I am extremely tired today. Trying to get things done as we have two more birthdays this weekend. My husband is off the next three days, so did not want to have tons to do.

Carolyn, I have not done that low impact challenge workout in years either. After I got near the end there is one spot where my legs are burning and I remembered doing a premix a lot that repeated that part of the workout and was tough. That was the only part that really felt hard other than the squat thrust 2 push ups to standing. I did not want to aggravate my neck and shoulders so did part plank jacks instead of push ups before standing. I don't go to the store near as much as I normally would now. Particularly the Walmart stores. I went to Dollar General today just to pick up a few things, mainly for my husband, that I cannot get at Sprouts. Things like Cheetos, deviled ham, and I picked up a pack of Aquafina water while in there. They usually are not that busy during the week. Two people in front of me in line and I saw an elderly man on one aisle.

Valerie, I can't believe people are so careless with their credit cards. I found one laying in the grocery store parking lot years ago. I took it inside the store just in case someone came looking for it. I called the police once when I saw a guy open a car door and a wallet fell out. I still don't know what he opened the car door for as we were sitting at a traffic light. Maybe it wasn't shut all of the way. They took off too fast to try to let them know. That is weird that you have found so many of them. Pets and their personalities are what makes them so lovable. Low Impact Challenge is one of the workouts form the Low Impact Series. It is a step workout. It has a bonus workout on it too. I wouldn't have thought they would open up a casino this soon.

Deb, I keep hesitating on throwing out my old scale that just requires batteries. The thing is that it is kind of big and once I knocked a bottle of nail polish off the counter and it splattered on the toilet and the scale. Unfortunately it dries fast and I used acetone nail polish remover on the readout and it made the plastic cover hazy. I have been wanting something else for a long time. I had higher hopes for this one. It does heart rate , but you have to use your cell phone or have a device to link it to. Which they do sell tracker watches, thermometers, heart rate monitors etc.. With the right equipment everything could be sent to the app dashboard and printed up reports for doctors or yourself. Probably way more than I need. They had a cardio scale as well, but I read not so good reviews on that one and how well it works and it was quite a bit more money.
A drive by birthday party ought to be fun.

Did MTB the muscle meltdown chest and abs yesterday. Tried to edit and add to yesterday’s post but it won’t save the edit. Going to try a Xc ski today.
diane sue that’s what I was trying to say yesterday. How can so many people be so careless with cc’s ? I’ve never lost one. Every time we get hacked it’s a huge mess until it gets replaced.

Good morning ladies!

Barre Blend is going well and I am just about done with week 2. The workouts are 5 days a week and only about 30 mins. Each week they are a little more challenging and at times I am feeling the burn. On days I do these I follow up with a kind bounce. Nothing to crazy.

I watch CBS news every morning and they always have a segment honoring those that have passed due to covid. It was just on and, as awalys, so sad. So many people, all ages.

Every day I do a bird watch when I know mama has left for a bit (pretty much my day! Lol!). And it is amazing how quickly birds grow. The other egg never hatched and is still there. Not sure what mama does with unhatched eggs.

Diane Sue...I am the same way with rotations with the same few workouts. I get really bored very quickly. I like beach body on demand since they are all filmed live. They have 5 basic workouts, fillmed live throughout each a little different. This is great for me as the moves are slightly different and especially the conversations and jokes! I have been doing better with my sleep schedule. Trying to get a little more normal. Sweet with your husbands promotion!

Valerie...Massachusetts will start a slow open on Monday. I think it is insane! We are playing with fire. Just in the news it is showing there seems to be a strain of covid seriously affecting childern. These are uncertain times!! I had a nuwave oven years ago. I did not realize they were still around. I never liked it and ended up giving it away.

Deb...that is so sweet to have the drive by bday for that little boy. He will remember this forever! I would love to have your scale.

Carolyn...I went grudgingly into the store yesterday. When picking out meat and seafood I prefer to do this myself. I bought some salmon and plan to try Judy’s recipe tonight in our airfryer. I have seen those head bands with buttons. They seem to help tremendously.

Judy...thanks for the salmon recipe. Can’t wait to try it tonight. Any idea when you will be going back to work? I still have not heard, and frankly I am fine with it. I do not want to be outside around people, even my office coworkers!

We are expecting some nasty weather later today, high winds, rain and thunderstorms, with possible Power outages. So glad storms do not phase GiGi at all!

Have a great day all!

Today I did Upper Body Trisets from the Low Impact Series. That was 60 minutes and 220 calories burned. Average heart rate was 107 and maximum heart rate was 132. It’s been over a year since I last did this one, but I like it quite a bit.

Diane Sue, I took a look at Low Impact Challenge again and you are right. It’s the burpees that I didn’t like but the workout itself is okay. Your new scale sounds very complicated. That’s more information than I want :).

Deb, a drive by birthday party sounds great. One of my neighbors had one a couple of weeks ago. It took me a minute to realize what was happening down there, but the balloons were a big clue.

Valerie, you have a sharp eye for finding lost items. Those people are fortunate that it’s been you and not someone else who found the credit cards.

Lori, I ordered a headband with buttons, but I recently found the directions for making one on Joann.com. It uses stretchy knit fabric and I have been recycling old t-shirts for my projects.

Waving hello to Judy. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today I did Coffey Fit Raw new on Kelly just put up. She said facebook workout. I just saw it on the check in late last night. It is Raw Cardio and Tone which is done in a gym by herself. I liked it and time went by quickly. This was 33 minutes(31:19 actual) heart rate 124/164, 1,948 steps. I then did Raw Intervals #5, 25 minutes, heart rate 126/162, 1,792 steps, 124 calories, finished with Raw Stretch and Tone 33 minutes, 44 calories, heart rate 88/131, 95 steps. I did not wear the ankle weights for this this time since it is optional and I just wanted the stretching and mobility. Total time was 91 minutes, 319 calories, 3,835 steps.
Raw Cardio and Tone 31:19 minutes
20 minutes cardio and then 10 minutes floor toning and stretch
warm up 2:45

went skiing this morning, 3 hours. it was raining on and off, not hard but enough to get wet, and then the sun came out for a while, and then went away. typical spring weather. last time for this one. a lot of bare patches of road but still ok, and beats sitting at home. we only have one road left to use now since snow is melting back quickly.

got a call to reschedule my mammogram and got it for next week. looks like things are going back to normal quickly here now. I had been scheduled in march and they cancelled everyone back then.

there were more troubles with the casino, people parking all over the roads and blocking some of them. this morning there were miles of "no parking" signs every few feet.!. geez. people can be so dumb. hopefully the worst is over.

I ordered a Misto when I ordered the air fryer. its nice and works well. I think I will get a lot of use from it as long as it doesn't plug like my old one did.

I keep thinking I have a low impact series but if that workout is step, I probably skipped it. Im Ok with burpees but step..never.

Valerie, I have never been hacked. Someone may have tried once when the bank called and said they had a suspicious for a dollar or something like that, which was what generally happened to see if they could use my account. They called and left a message and I called the bank to verify instead of returning the call as it was. They sent me a new debit card to replace the one I had. I never lost my card. Once my wallet ended up being found?? A guy called my husband's police business card out of my wallet and my husband went and got it. They guy claimed he saw it fall off my car. I had my grandchildren with me at Target. The gas station was several miles away from the store and my cards were all there, but not my cash. The thing is I usually carried a large handbag so I could carry sippy cups and diapers with me. I did have to hook children up in seat belts and stuff. I am surprised the guy went out of his way to return it if he took my money. It just did not ring true.
The Low Impact Series has the two yoga workouts in it that Cathe did. There are workouts in it that are not step. Glad the Misto is working. One of those would be nice for me instead of brushing a little oil in my ceramic pans for some of my cooking.

Lori, it does get kind of old when you hear some of those jokes and conversations over and over. Although I have enough workouts sometimes I hear a joke and it makes me chuckle even though I heard it before. I have not tried Beachbody streaming yet. The thing is, I don't use many of their workouts that I have except maybe Les Mills. I did do Les Mills on Demand once though. My friends daughter in Az had one she was showing off with her mask on facebook while she was working. It looked like it would work well.

Carolyn, Upper Body Trisets is a long workout. Nice work. If I remember right the bonus portion of the Low Impact Step Challenge had a move that I did not look forward to. It has been a long time, but that much stuck with me.

Weve been hacked several times. never lost a card. number got stolen ( most likely) at a restaurant. at a wedding in Tahoe a few years ago, almost everyone in our family had their card numbers stolen. we all stayed at different hotels and ate at different restaurants, no common locations. plus the car rental tried to ding us with damage that was already on the car. Always take pictures of the car when you pick it up unless its absolutely pristine! ( I took pics so we could tell them to go whistle) cc's hacks only came to our attention after we got home. CC people put a stop on the card number and we never got any wrong billing but it sure would be inconvenient if you were traveling and had to get a replacement since we are often in pretty remote places. we use one card now when traveling and keep the other as backup so we wont get our service frozen when we are in some remote place with no way to pay for gas. our truck ( diesel) costs >$100 to fill up. I don't want to carry that kind of cash.

I have both of cathes yoga workouts but bought them separately so I guess I didn't get that series.

This morning I did Cardio Supersets from the Low Impact Series. That was 41 minutes and 251 calories burned. My average heart rate was 123 and maximum heart rate was 148.

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Cardio and Tone. The Upper Body Trisets Split is 56 minutes long. The Lower Body Split is 39 minutes. I would never do them together.

Valerie, I thought that I remembered you doing Cardio Supersets, maybe last year. It’s all floor cardio, no step. The Low Impact Series also includes Afterburn and Slide and Glide that you might have done since there is no step in them.

Hello to Judy, Deb, and Lori.

Carolyn you are 100% right, I have cardio supersets, slide and glide and afterburn. haven't done Afterburn in ages. I don't think I have the step one. I bought 2 yoga dvds separately for DH last year. When I say "I have enough workouts" I certainly must, because apparently I can't keep straight what I already have. I maybe gave it away or stuck it out of sight.
I have high step workouts but didn't enjoy them. I have STS too. I did it at least 3x, maybe more and DH still uses a few disks. I haven't in a few years. when we started riding a lot more, I found myself not doing cardio workouts as often. DH and I used to run but his hours got too early and it was too dark in the morning for us, so I switched to indoors. when I first started indoor workouts, I was optimistic, thought there was no reason why I couldn't do step.... until I found out by trying... that I cant do it. I might have gotten frustrated trying and just tossed it. I know I tossed another step disk after feeling standing helplessly humiliated..Kathy Smith went into the trash! maybe was a video tape? the only one I still feel like Id like to learn is Cardio party. it seems like such fun.

I will look thru my dvds when I head downstairs for my workout later.
