Good morning,

Agility class yesterday, that was it for me.

Lori, I got the confirmation email from Paypal that had the transaction on it, but I didn;t get the downloads, so I don;t think I am supposed to get a code?

Judy, good think that you didn;t loose power. I noticed right away that there was a separate lower body workout with this set. I think the last couple ( S&S and maybe FS) did upper body workouts but no lower....not sure, but I remember reading a complaint about that somewhere. I love the PHA workouts too, I think there are 3 of them now in the Live workouts.

Valerie, that tulip festival sounds really nice, but I can understand why you would not want to bike through it. That's sad that they cut the tulips just so people can't seem them . :(. I remember watching the OJ chase with the white Ford Bronco on TV while it was happening. Then the trial that was on every day and killed the daytime soap operas. ( Yes, I was addicted to them at the time!)...

Carolyn, it does look like Cathe listened and incorporated many of the suggestions from the forum into the new series. I read one comment about having a modifier, but a different one than she had before. In the Q&A's Cathe mentions that there would be no need for a modifier, since it is all low impact except for the special add-ons for higher impact moves. I know the person was referring to Amanda, who I always felt did not really want to be the one to show the low impact version of the moves.

Diane Sue, I hope your hip and back are better today. My right hip has started hurting again, when going up stairs, and sleeping on my right side. I think it is bursitis, and the pain may be because I have gained some weight back. I think it affects my hip. That is so nice that you all got together to help move and organize the apartment. As for ants, I think there are things ( natural stuff) that you can make to spray around that are not insecticides, that deter them. I had some in my cabinets and made some spray that I think I found on Pinterest.

Off to Erie, Pa this morning for an agility trial....

Take care,

Good morning. Deb the tulip festival used to be a local event. we used to ride thru on our bikes on a weekday. now like so many things it has been over hyped and traffic gets nightmarish, there's a charge for everything. it brings a lot of business to the surrounding community, a good thing, but overloads the small farm roads for weeks. the congestion and crowds make riding IMO unsafe.

Deb yes, I remember the white Bronco chase, I remember a lot of bits and pieces. a fascinating series. it is streaming Netflix under American Crime Story. It was memorable to me because it was the first time I remember when so many people looked at the same information and came up with totally opposite conclusions. They don't back away from the role racism played in the whole conflict... from all sides.

My shoulder is much better today though it was never "bad" to begin with. I didn't want it to just "bull" forward and make it worse. I'm quite sure it is a muscle strain /tendonitis. backing off is the best tactic. Keeping it active, but no frank weight work right now. It gets plenty of exercise.

I get the idea Amanda was not in the last series? it's funny how you get used to seeing certain faces and miss them when they're not there.

http://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/263546/chicken-burrito-bowls-with-sweet-potato-rice/print/ I made a modified version for dinner twice lately. we really liked it. I hesitated to link because I went way off the recipe directions, making it a bit silly to post a recipe I didn't follow. . the prep was quite easy. I made half. I diced up sweet potato and roasted it tossed with olive oil. 1/2 inch pieces. roasted it first. put the other ingredients on a sheet pan, baked and broiled as directed but added a sliced red pepper to the mix. I served it over the sweet potatoes. I skipped the salsa, cheese, and cilantro. lots of flex in there. it was really tasty. you need to know how your oven broiler works to gauge how close you want the pan to the heat. Mine has to be pretty close to the heat.

No workout today, this is my rest day.

Deb, do you get a lot of activity with the agility class? It sounds like you would. I agree, Amanda wasn’t very helpful as a modifier. I like to see her in the workouts but she didn’t seem comfortable with modifying the movements.

Valerie, that’s too bad that they cut off the tulips after the festival. That seems wasteful. I guess they don’t want people waiting until after the paid event to see them for free. Your recipe looks good. I would probably roast the sweet potatoes too. That double step to rice them doesn’t seem to add anything to the overall flavor of the dish.

Hello to Judy, Lori, and Diane Sue.

Carolyn that was my thought too. roasting intensifies flavor. it's really a good combo with the sweet and savory. so simple too.... if you use parchment for the potatoes you can use the same pan to roast the chicken/vegies. I'm not a fan of chopping up vegies, cooking them and calling them something they're not. I like cauliflower but it's not rice. I like both but rice and cauliflower are not equal. I think the same would be true of sweet potatoes.
I'm not positive if they cut the tops off to cut off viewing entirely..... I've never had luck keeping tulips from year to year. after the first year, they come back barely a pale small version of the first year. maybe it has to do with getting a re-bloom? I don't know for sure. we used to enjoy looking at them. we may ride there next weekend. there will always be a few remaining but the multi acre fields of intense color are not there after the festival. took the day off exercise today. will try and xc ski again tomorrow.

Good morning,

We had fun at the trial, but no :Q's"...maybe next time. I did get my 10,000 steps though. :)

Valerie, I can see why it would be unsafe to ride there with all the crowds etc. Glad your shoulder is better. No, I don't believe Amanda was in the last series...I'm not sure which one it was that she was the designated modifier. I like how that recipe looks, however I do not have a spirilizer. I need to figure out how to roast sweet potatoes.

Carolyn, agility class is really a lot of fun, but not much for exercise for the person, it is for the dog though. :). I also like Amanda in the workouts, just not as a modifier.

Hi to Diane Sue, Lori, & Judy,

Take care,

Deb. This is easy. ( ETA I cook a lot so I don't want to insult your intelligence, but this is how I do it) Rough peel the potato.chop it into similar size pieces so they roast the same amount of time. I drizzle on about a TB of olive oil and bit of salt. Toss chopped potatoes in a bowl with oil and salt , dump on a sheet pan. I use a big sheet of parchment so I can lift off the potatoes on the paper when done and then use the same pan for the chicken and veggies. Potatoes roast at 400 for 20 to 30 minutes. I like parchment because I like potatoes a little crisp and potatoes like to stick to the pan. No sticking with parchment!!
I cut the potatoes into half and then half again so they have a flat surface and then into strips and then smaller pieces . A plain old chef knife is the best tool. I absolutely would not mess with spiralizing them . One decent size sweet potato was enough for the two of us.

my experience with spiralized vegies in the oven is it is too hard to get pieces the same thickness, and you get a mixture of overdone and underdone. squares or rectangles work best.

You’re right ...Amanda looked half hearted modifier I think in the ICE series. Cathe has never focused much on modifiers Since a lot of her followers are getting older and want less impact, I hope she makes it easier to follow modified moves

Off to go try another ski......

Today I did Power Hour with the warmup from Body Max. My total time was 83 minutes with 290 calories burned. Average heart rate was 106 and maximum heart rate was 161. This is a high rep workout which I had forgotten and I had to lower my weights several times.

We have sweet potatoes often, usually baked. I like them spiralized in specific recipes, but not as my go to preparation method.

Where is everyone this week? I guess people are very busy. Have a wonderful day.

Good evening ladies!

I finished the SB challenge over the weekend. Yesterday and today I did LEKfit bounces with the weight intervals along with the SB workouts. Her high rep leg intervals kill me. I love the burn though so not complaining. SB started a Spring into Summer 4 week Challenge so I may loosely follow so I can fit in some of the other workouts I have not done!

Saturday and Sunday we were busy cleaning and setting up our screened in and out door patios. We bought a new rectangular gas fire pit that will arrive tomorrow. I am very excited about this. I love having a fire on the weekends. I bought some glass aqua stones to replace the lava rocks. Thinking it will be beautiful when lit.

Valerie...a tulip festival sounds nice. But not the traffic. I felt the ICE was so versatile and hoping this next set is too. I read that Amanda has been in body building competitions which is why we have not seen her. I saw a picture of her and she looks amazing. I think she has 3 or 4 children too!!! I could be wrong but thought Carhe mentioned this at one point.

Deb...sorry no Q’s but great with the steps! No you would not get a code if you ordered the dvds only. So you are all set. This new series sounds great.

Carolyn...those high reps creep up don’t they! Nice job!

Diane Sue...I get 2 emails from Cathe when I pay with paypal and purchase the downloads. The first is the confirmation then a separate is the download code. If you order look for these 2 emails. If you do not have it then contact them immediatley and they will resend. If you wait until when the dvds are about to ship then you will never get thru. Last year I never received the download code but contacted them within a few days from placing my order.

Judy...I did not get the bonus dvd. Thought about it but made no sense for me because I can easily make my own.

Have a great night all!

Hi Everyone,

Saturday I went for a walk with Chris. It was so nice out! Yesterday I did a Spinerval and today I did Body Beast Bulk Arms, Beast Abs and Jessica Smith Healthy Back workout, from one of her Walk On DVDs.

Deb-I think Amanda was the designated modifier in RWH or ICE.

Valerie-Thanks for sharing the recipe. I think I will give that a try. I tend to cook the same things over and over. I need to try some new recipes. I've always loved sweet potatoes. Thanks for the tip on not spiralizing them. I like your method better.

Carolyn-Great job with Power Hour! That is another good one. I agree about Amanda. I like her in the workouts but not as a modifier. She didn't really seem to want to modify.

Lori-Great job with the SB Challenge! That makes sense about not getting the bonus DVD. You are so good at working with the downloads.

Diane Sue-My allergies were really bad this weekend. Yesterday was the worst for me. Today wasn't as bad. I hope your hip and back are better this week.

Judy

Late check in. I am tired. I did not sleep well. My daughter came over after my workout and we took the children to the library. This morning I did Ripped with Hiit, Low Impaxt 1 and 2 combined, met 6.0, 331 calories,50 minutes, 3,810 steps. I then did Ice Low Impact Seat workout # 1 no warm up, 23 minutes, heart rate average 129, max 173, 147 calories, met 5.8, 1,373 steps. I did 15 minutes of Sarah Beth Yoga on you tube for back pain (it was supposed to be 30 minutes) and stopped when my daughter called to get my bath and put together. That was 33 calories, met 2.0. I did get 10,127 steps so far today. Total workout time was 88 minutes, 511 calories. Tomorrow is a major errand running day for me. Yesterday was family birthday celebrating and I came home and mowed the back and did yard work while husband organized the garage.

Deb, good for you getting your 10,000 steps in. Sorry no Q's. FS has a lower body workout. I am getting a bit tired of the cardio between lower body weights on some of the workouts though. I would rather just do the lower body and add cardio if I want it. Yes, Strong and Sweaty was all total body stuff unless using a premix and then ramped up upper. The premixes are fine though. I got more out of the lower workouts using the giant sets premixes anyway.

Valerie, I would probably like that recipe. I made a ground turkey with sweet potato cubes in it that was a skillet meal with lots of spices and cumin that I got off pinterest. It was really good. I had some for lunch today.

Carolyn, I like the sweet potatoes spiralized in certain recipes like the noodle bowls. I save my extra pieces from the centers and ends when I spiralize and toss them in a skillet to eat with an egg. The kitchen aid makes it much easier than that hand crank I was using.
I would have thought you would have a higher burn with Power hour than that. I have not done that one in years. I almost forget what is on it. I only remember the biceps track and wondering when it was going to stop!

Lori, your project sounds nice and I bet the stones will be beautiful. Thanks for the heads up on the code with the downloads.

Judy, I have been outside a lot lately an yesterday was coughing and sneezing. I mowed and that did not help. My throat is itchy. Hopefully it lets up so I am not coughing through the wedding Thursday. Grass and tree pollen are in the high category. Only thing not right now is weeds.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did JS Gentle Back Pain Prevention.. 28 minutes, 51 calories.

Valerie, thanks for the cooking info. I am going to try that. Did you get that ski in yesterday?

Carolyn, just curious, why did you do the warm up from Body Max, instead of the one from Power Hour? I like sweet potatoes a lot too, but John does not. I will want to see how he likes them roasted, He likes really crispy potatoes so I am hoping if I make them bake longer they will crisp up.

Lori, good job finishing the SB Challenge. :). That new fire pit sounds nice. You will have to post some pics here when it is done.

Judy, I hope your allergies are better today. The weather has been so nice, a walk sounds great.

Diane Sue, good job on the workouts and getting in those steps! Thanks for the info on S&S Lower Body premix. I think I will do that one this week. I don't think I tried any of the premixes on Giant sets. Only 2 more days until the wedding!

Take care,

My back/hip still hurt this morning along with my neck. Last night I I had such a terrific headache. No Advil so I finally took meloxicam and used tiger balm. Excedrin did not help earlier in the day and would have just kept me up. I have not used the meloxicam since the shoulder injury when I only used 1 tablet. I feel a little better this morning.

Deb, yes, the wedding is almost here :) I am sure my daughter will feel some relief when it is over. She has had so many things going and upcoming graduation for the youngest and college prep, a broken arm for the youngest. There will be adter graduation festivities. Good job doing a back pain prevention. There is also a lower and upper only premix on SS PHA. The Total body has all lower double or triple.

We tried to ski two places. did not work this time. We ran into spotty deep snow patches we could not get the car through but the road had melted out beyond. We walked, carrying our gear, but never got to solid snow. A waste of time but a nice morning and that ended up being the workout. This often happens in spring when the melt is unpredictable. Will ride today instead.
I haven’t had any luck with spiralizing. things. So far.
Doing potatoes in small chunks is best IMO to get them firm and slightly crispy They need a toss with a little oil and the pieces separated on the roasting pan. You need to stir them a few times so they roast evenly. I do them at 400 or 425. Because sweet potatoes have higher sugar content they will burn at thin spots and on edges so watch them. Alexis brand has frozen sweet potato fries that get somewhat crisp but the same thing... thin spots and edges will burn. I like sweets roasted whole too but diced and roasted is my favorite way.

I have an electric oven. broil ing iswith the door closed so you can’t see what’s happening. I don’t use broil very often because it’s hard to gauge time but five min was perfect for the chicken and veggies.

Today I did RWH Lift It HiiT It Legs. That was 40 minutes and 225 calories burned. My average heart rate was 121 and maximum heart rate was 162. My HiiT movements were mostly low impact with less jumping.

Deb, yesterday I did the warmup from Body Max in addition to the full Power Hour. I like to do a cardio warmup and the warmup on Power Hour is done with lighter weights and no cardio.

Lori, your outdoor living areas sound wonderful and very relaxing. It’s great that you are getting it set up. Good job with the workouts.

Diane Sue, I’m sorry that your hip is still bothering you. You are right about the biceps on Power Hour—they go on and on. I made a note on my workout sheet to chose lighter weights because of the number of reps.

Judy, great workouts. You seem to have a nice balance of time and intensity.

Valerie, too bad the skiing didn’t work out. At least you had a nice day and some type of outdoor activity even though it wasn’t what you planned.

Today I did Party Rockin Step #1, 54 minute, met 6, heart rate average 141, max 177, 357 calories, 4,958 steps. I then did Tracey Long Core Movements, segments core and more and mobility stretch, 16 minutes, 44 calories, 106 steps. heart rate average 98, max 138. I was going to do the posture segment as well, but when looking at my notes that was the only item on the page the day I started having all of the pain that was different. Maybe my body is reacting to the postural stuff. Anyway, I was not ready to take a chance. Things seem a bit better right now and I have a lot to do.

Valerie, I like to cube the sweet potatoes and fry them up with a little oil on the stove top, roasting is good too. I have to cook them slowly regardless so I don't end up with burnt spots. I did spiralized sweet potato in the oven recently and they were really good a little crisp and I ate a whole sweet potato.

Carolyn, I like a cardio warm up when I do strength work too. Nice choice. I used to pick up a heavier barbell than Cathe and soon realized she knew what she was doing when she went light.

Kylee is so cute!. looks like everyone is having fun.

carolyn, that was our thought on yesterday. sometimes it doesn't work but that's always a risk with outdoor things. when it's nice it's really nice. Today we did a road ride, 32 miles so longer than what has been our usual. this is as long as we go on this trail. each end gets into busier city sections that we don't enjoy riding. this was 2 hrs 50 min. it was warm and sunny.

I've never fried a sweet potato although I think they way I do it might be called "oven frying", since I put a TB of olive oil on the potato first. . there are new appliances called air fryers that supposedly give the crispness of fried foods with a fraction of the oil but I don't know a lot more about them.

I got a lot of errands ran today, but forgot my wallet when and had to leave the vet to go back and get it. I needed more Flea and Tick medicine for Gertie. Better there than forgetting it at Walmart and discovering it after I filled my cart and had it rang up. I still need to go to Sprouts for veggies. My grandson called wanting to come over and use my printer for some job forms he had emailed himself. So, I came went home after Walmart and the vet's office. He was doing that and signing up for some stuff at the Vo-tech.

Deb, Kylee is so cute and looks like she is having lots of fun. You do do a lot of running yourself :)

My husband mentioned one of those air fryers to me once. I think that he was hoping I would go back to making french fries again. I got tired of the greasy mess over the stove and disposing of all that oil. Besides it is not healthy to reheat the oil repeatedly and it gets expensive. It would be nice to see if one of those fryers worked. I don't really need a kitchen device sitting around that I won't use often.

Good evening ladies!

I almost did not workout this morning but figured if I did an easy bounce that would be something. Once I started bouncing I ended up doing a SB advanced thigh and seat bounce followed up with a pop sugar 10 min jump workout. I enjoyed both and got something in today. Total time was 37 mins. I think close to 300 cal. I am not close to my phone so unable to check.

Deb...Congrats to Kylee!! She looked awesome and so adorable! Thanks for sharing the video. Fire pit came today but still waiting on the glass stones. Will take some pictures once I get everything all set up. Going to be an issue with GiGi. We had the old one set up and used it several times and she keeps sticking her face in the fire to catch the flames. Needless to say we are keeping her away from the flames. Hoping we can correct this behavior since we spend so much time outside in the evenings. Will be sad if we have to keep her indoors.

Judy..nice workouts today. My sons weights came in and he started up with Body Beast again. He is loving the brand of adjustable dumbbells he got. They each go from 11lbs to 71lbs. That is insane!!! I love that he enjoys working out. :) he really has leaned out too from Body Beast.

Diane Sue...you amaze me that you did both of the RWH low impact workouts plus the ice one! I would have stopped before the Ice. Good for you. :) I read a post that Cathe has promised a Step Workout for all the Step lovers. I am sure it will be after this series. I am happy for those that love step. Not to many good newer workouts any longer. One time I went shopping and went to pay and no wallet. Ugh. Went home and as soon as I opened the door Chester came running to me with my wallet in his mouth. He was such a sneaky thief. He was so proud I just could not be mad at him. Lol!! Would love some pictures of the wedding. I love weddings!

Carolyn..sometimes I make a high impact a low impact workout when I am not feeling it. Still get a great workout with the low impact. We love our patios and totally take advantage of both. They are nothing fancy, but, they are cozy and comfortable for us. Can’t go wrong with that.

Valerie..I love sweet potatoes. I have never used one of those fryers but thinking I am going to look into them. Will let you know what I think after research. Nice ride today. I would love to do a 32 mile outdoor ride. Years ago I rode all the time. My husband last year started riding and the most he can do at one time is 6 to 7. I am ok with this since we are doing it together and he enjoys it. When we do go for a ride I still workout beforehand. I find that we when we ride together it is a slow ride and not much of a workout for me. I would never tell him this though!

Have a great night all!
