Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5-31

Good morning,

Cool here today, but hopefully it will get into the 60's! No tattoos here! I am pretty much not a tattoo lover at all, but to each his own as they say.

Valerie, yes, for here, 60 is very cool for this time of year. We usually have 75-85 as normal temps. I don't mind it unless it is very humid. I would rather have 60 and low humidity. I wonder if something like picking up that 40 pound bag wouldn't aggravate whatever is sore in your shoulder without you knowing it at the time? Maybe it is just that the shot wore off and time for another one. If I were to grow anything in a vegetable garden it would be snap peas. Love them.

Lynda, I got the info on using that type of serum from this woman that has a lot of videos on YouTube, she is really good, does lots of reviews etc. Don't pay attention to the name, she does have good info etc: I can get lost just watching all her videos, crazy I know.

Lori, I agree, tattoos are a small thing and if all else is good, that is great. Sometimes you just have to take the time to relax, your body is telling you that. I use retin A at night, but only a couple of times a week. Use the vitamin C serum every day, after using my Clarasonic Mia. Love it. I am following the Hot & Flash's morning routine. LOL.

Dawn, great workout and a 2 mile walk besides! LOL, you're right, the worst thing to have for a tattoo would be someone's name. Did not see Cathe's comments, will go over there in a bit. It really irks me that she puts stuff on FB, and not on her official site. Like Lynda, I do not like high impact, but like the prices of Cathe's pre-sales. so I ordered the complete RWHIT series, then immediately sold the Plyo workouts on Ebay. I also sold the Tabata ones from that other series. You can't beat her presale prices.

Josie, I hope you are having a great time and pics will be coming soon!

P.S I just wanted a link to post, I didn't really want the whole video to show here....LOL

Hi to Judy & Deb2,

Take care,

Hey I'm not the only one without a tattoo! whoopee!! I had my ears pierced like you Lori, in high school. I had a second set of holes punched 15-20 years ago and that was it..... developed an allergy, likely to nickel and can't wear any jewelry comfortably since. I've tried all the work arounds to wear them but my ears stubbornly redden and get hot and itchy. Anyway, Dawn I actually like tattoos but I worry how everyone will feel when they go out of style, as everything does.... especially the people who have very extensive designs that cover a lot of public skin. covering for work is a good thing to consider. Not sure what fields you would be locked out of but that would be a hard way to find out. Lori thanks for informing us what those ear things are called. I don't care for them but you are wise to pick your battles.

shoulder bothers much less that previously. I thought the second shot took care of it but in the last week it seems to be a little noticeable again. I am not doing regular workouts but my regular activities involve it pretty much and most things are OK. Like I said, it's only certain positions and I'm nervous about doing too much if it eventually will heal if I leave it alone.

still rainy today so some kind of workout , just not sure what. hiking tomorrow if the weather clears as promised. Deb, snap peas are so easy to grow. at least here they are. very fast short season crop. we will have a ton of them and then they're gone. grow in cool weather, when it gets warm they go downhill fast.

Hi Everyone,

Monday I did Slow & Heavy Triceps & Biceps and yesterday I did a 1 hour Spinerval. It's really nice out so I think I might go for a run this morning and do a leg workout later today.

The avatar photo was from the Spinerval challenge, for their facebook page. Many of the participants post videos of themselves but that's one thing I haven't done much with my iPhone. I've done videos of the cats, but not of myself. I would feel funny doing that. Kind of like public speaking, which I was never very good at either.

Valerie & Deb-The watch works with the phone but once the watch is set up I think you can use it without having the phone nearby. I haven't tried doing that yet, as I always seem to have my phone with me. I've scanned email and messages but I haven't used the watch to reply to anything. I've been reading threads on a Mac forum and am learning new things about the watch every day. Most people are happy with it, but not all. I guess it depends on what the expectation was to begin with. It is a powerful watch and certainly does more than any other watch I've had. I love the way it works with the alarm too. I set my alarm on my phone and when it goes off, it feels like the watch is tapping my wrist. It's gentle, but enough to wake me up.

I don't have any tattoos either Valerie. I did get a navel ring when I was in my 30's, but I stopped wearing it a few years ago.

Dawn-I'll have to check Cathe's facebook post. I hadn't heard about a new series yet. That's exciting!

Lori-For the lying shoulder work I started with 5 and went to 3. I might try the 8's next time. I need to work on my upper body strength.

Lynda-I agree about the weather, temps in the 80's are perfect. Looks like we might get that later this week. It was unseasonably cool Monday and yesterday.

Hi to Josie & Deb2

Judy

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, Judy, and Dawn--

This morning I did Dancin' Abs (58:00).

I caved already and pre-ordered Cathe's new set. Intermediate--YES! a modifier--YES! These were meant for me.

Wow, Judy, S & H is a blast from the past. I did those a lot on video. So different from the pacing on the weight workouts on RWH. I gave all my old videos to the library ages ago. I was happy to get the space. I really haven't been tempted to get these old workouts on dvd because I feel like I did them a lot and I'm not sentimental about old workouts.

Lori, I don't know how to pm anymore. I thought you could just tap the avatar, but that does not seem to work for me anymore. Deb has my home address. Maybe she can send it to you? I don't mind tattoos, but I guess I would worry about my sons' jobs, since they are both in sales and meet a lot of people that might have a dim view of tattoos. I'm glad they resisted the temptation. They are also very careful about what they do on their Facebook pages because they know people who have posted drunken orgy photos and lost out on interviews because of this. I agree on Retin-A. I have been using it for a long time.

Deb, I will check out the video. It sounds like you have found a regimen that really works for you.

Dawn, that is a loooong workout. Retirement does have its advantages in terms of timing. What do you think of this new series from Cathe?

Anyone have advice on how to pm?

I just pre-ordered as well. I didn't see any information on how long they are, but I am sure the premixes will be a variety of lengths so I am not worried about that. I can tell there may be 2 or 3 that I will sell right off the bat, but that's ok too. It is still worth it with the pre-order discounted price.

Good afternoon ladies!

Today was Lower Fix and tonight I did a new SB Supported Barre followed up with her Arms workout. My DH has been doing great with his diet and exercise. I believe he has lost about 15 lbs which is HUGE for him!!! He really has dived in.

Lol! I ordered too! I really told myself I was not ordering her next series but then when I read the description it sounded great! I love RWH but sometimes you need less intense. I ordered the downloads.

Dawn...great walk. I miss walking. My yellow lab is getting up there in age and his hips are bothering him so we do not walk as much or as long as we used too. I still get him out but we go very slow! He still likes it though. :)

Deb...thanks for emailimg me Lynda's info. I have not checked my emails yet. If I did not get it I will let you know. Thanks for the video! I will be watching it in the morning.

Lynda..scroll to the top and next to your name on the right click on the envelope and then start a new conversation. That is how I send PM's now. I have never down the S&H series. I own them but have yet to try them out yet here I am buying her new Dvds!!!

Valerie...I actually have a follow up appt for my left shoulder tomorrow. Sorry yours is bothering you again. Even though I have been working out - like you I am extremely careful with my shoulders and will avoid/modify any exercise I think will bother them. So far so good for me.

Judy...good for you if you can do the fusion with 8lbs. I tried the first time I did this one and quickly realized 8's were way to much for me! I am the same way...I very rarely post a video of me!! I love making videos of other people but keep me out of it!

Hi to Josie!!!!

Good morning,

Well the truck is loaded and ready to go to the arena today. Then the hard work begins, unloading our truck and the one that comes from PA with all the agility equipment etc.

Valerie, maybe when we reduce the size of our perennial flower bed, I will set aside an area for some snap peas. I think it will need to be next year though. I hope your shoulder gets better. Are you scheduled for another shot?

Judy, great job on those weights and SB workouts! I loved Slow & Heavy. I think that watch is way too technical for me. I am happy with my ECO watch that never needs a battery! :)

Lynda, I agree on your point on your sons and tattoos. Being in management all the years I was, I can tell you that interviewing a person with tattoos does affect how you think of them, whether it is supposed to or not. It's just an impression you get, whether it is correct or not. I know it's not right, but it is human nature. I don't mind them, if they can be covered for work. There is something just not "business-like" about them, unless you are working in a record store.

Lori, That's great about your DH and his getting into the diet/workout routine. With On Demand, you can get the workouts right?

Hi to Josie, & Dawn,

Take care,

I don't want another thing... like a watch... that needs charging. I've got a timex "expedition" that gives me date, time, lap timer, count up and down functions, and a light. it's small but not too small to read. the battery lasts for years. this is MY kind of watch. just don't need anything else that needs "care and feeding", so to speak. I guess sometimes I get tired of needing to learn new gadgets. my interest level in new electronics is pretty low. sometimes I think I'm missing out, but mostly I feel I don't need the aggravation.

we are having an extended power out today due to some construction nearby so we're going on a close in hike this morning. our neighbors next door got robbed recently. DH found a big ring binder in the shrubbery in front of our house yesterday.. it was wet from rain but I looked thru it and found an employee directory and looked for familiar names. it belonged next door. turns out it was taken from their truck along with the garage door opener, $20, some other small stuff while parked in their driveway. never met the woman though we've met her husband. she was very appreciative. petty crime has become so common here, and there's been a rash of it the last 2 weeks. burglary and theft. nothing like a casino to bring in the dregs. on foot and in vehicles, it is endless.

I agree on tattoos. I like them but I don't see giving anyone reason to not hire you. DH had a small tattoo when he was young, a girlfriends initials. it cost a lot to get it removed. he got tired of people seeing it and asking who 'PW"was. Tats are so common now but back then he felt it reflected negatively on him, and it was on his forearm. so he got it removed. it was uncomfortable and cost a lot.

I am not scheduled for another shot.. he wants a 3 month wait. I'm not sure it's enough of an issue for another one. I guess I'm going to start doing workouts and see what happens... as long as it doesn't bother me when I do them.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, Judy, and Dawn--

This morning I did AT (56:00).

Lori, thanks for the info on pms. I did send you one, so now I know what to do. That is such good news about your DH. I think you should give yourself a big pat on the back for being such an inspiration. I didn't think I would be getting another series from Cathe either, just because I feel like I'm not advanced enough for her intensity and impact. But this series looks right for me. I totally caved after reading her email.

Deb, is Kylee going to perform again? I have high hopes for this new series. It looks very versatile and appealing to a wide range of exercisers in terms of the intensity they need/want/can do.

Valerie, that's very alarming. Was it just the truck that was broken into, or did they use the garage opener to gain access to the house? Given the frequency of your little trips, I imagine you must have a pretty good security system. I have heard that having tattoos removed can be very painful and it takes a long time, several sessions.

Judy, how are you liking SH?

Dawn, are you going to cave as well??

I've never preordered a series, but I am definitely going to cave on this one! The series sounds like it has a lot of flexiblity and will fit in good with everything else I have.
XTrain AOLIH today.
My ex-mother-in-law passed away this morning, so I'm being here for my daughter and helping her gather photos for a slideshow she's putting together. I've been divorced for 20 years, but my MIL never once treated me any differently, so I'm still close to the family. So I may be away for a few days while everything is busy.

Good evening ladies...

The ladies did not workout today. We were all just way to busy. Tonight I did Cathe Live Hi Lo Hiit Circuit but sub in Cathe's live standing abs which I love!

Dawn...I am very sorry to hear about your MIL. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your daughter. Very nice you are still close after all those years.

Valerie...I spoke too soon with my shoulder. Last night my left started to ache and I know packing up the heavy packages yesterday at work did me in. Not so much the weight but using the tape gun. I was the taper because everyone knows I do not want to lift the heavy packages but doing the taping and the same movement a gazillion times aggravated it. Was killing me this morning when I went to the doctors. Needless to say my doctor thought I would be done and that was my last appt. But instead she has recommended a MRI. :(. So I am back to no heavy weights again. She said ok for light weights but no STS for a while. I am sooo bummed but will do what she recommends of course.

Lynda...I got the PM! Sending them is so different from the old forum. I agree this series sounds wonderful. I like that it is intermediate and you can up the intensity should you desire. Like you as soon as I read the description I did not hesitate!!

Deb...wow! That sounds like a ton of work unloading everything. I hope you count that as a workout! I am so sad I need to stop STS. I wasn't going heavy as I did the first time I did it a couple of years ago. I was babying my shoulders but I was gaining strength none the less. I am going to continue with the leg workouts though. Is kylee performing?

Judy...my plan is to stick to light weights and do more of SB's upper workouts. I have done a few and liked them. Curious if you have done an upper body one that you liked?

Have a great nght all! Hi to Josie!!!

Hi Everyone,

Dawn, I am very sorry about your MIL. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Lori-I'm sorry about your shoulder :( I did an SB upper body & core workout that I liked: http://suzannebowenfitness.com/streaming-workout/upper-body-core-stretch-30m/
Also, I thought that Cathe's Turbo Barre was good for a light weight workout. I use 3 lb dumbbells for the upper body work.

Lynda-I really like SH. I love the old school weight workouts. I'm really looking forward to the new series too.

Hi to Deb, Valerie, & Josie!

Judy

Good morning & Happy Friday!

Well the arena is set up, a lot of back breaking work. Now all that has to happen is the dogs behave, and I don't forget the courses.

Valerie, that break in sounds scary, did they have a security system? I agree.....no more charging and all the cords that go with it! LOL. When I travel, I have a big Hefty bag just full of electronic stuff. I also hate having to learn how to use any electronic gadget. When I see someone with a lot of tattoos I always wonder what they will look like when they are 80. ugh.

Lynda, yes, both of the "K's" will be performing. First time for Kylee in agility. I think it's funny that it took Cathe this long to "cave" and put in a modifier. How many years have people been asking for this? It's almost like it was a turning point or admission of some sort that we, her followers, and her, are actually getting older.

Dawn, sorry to hear about your MIL. It is nice that you remained close all these years.

Lori, sorry about your shoulder, I can see how the repetitive taping would aggravate it. Yes, better to do light weights, SB is ok, or are there too many reps? I wish Cathe would add a standing ab/core workout as one of her bonus ab sections on a DVD.

Hi to Josie, Judy,

I will check back later, let you know what happened today!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, Judy, and Dawn--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets (41:30).

Dawn, that's great that you remained close to your MIL. I really like photo displays and slide shows I have seen at receptions after funerals and memorial services. Reminds everyone of how vibrant, beautiful, memorable the loved one was/is. You did one of my favorite low impact workouts.

Deb, will John be doing a video of the two K's?? I loved the one he did of Keegan. I agree about Cathe. Maybe the chorus of voices asking for a modifier and some intermediate but challenging workouts finally became loud enough. She has in the past few years given a few modification recommendations that I have used, but nothing like KCM's always there modifier.

Lori, I finally had an MRI too, just to make sure nothing was torn. I had tendonitis, not frozen shoulder, and the PT I was doing for frozen shoulder probably made the tendonitis worse. I like the upper body workout in TB. I use 5 lb. wts. I like the little pink band she uses for the back work.

Hi to Judy and Valerie!

Good morning.
Lori, get the MRI. I'd get imaging if it wasn't such a big deal for me. I can't get an MRI and would need a CT arthrogram instead, with dye injection. Not doing that if it isn't really needed for something, like planned surgery. docs are so dependent on imaging. it reminds me of what happened after I kayaked that day. apparently too much taping=kayaking!
I don't know if the neighbors have a security system... this was an unlocked truck in their driveway. Our driveways are not right on the street, these are all 5 acre lots...homes not at street level... so someone had to purposely walk down and be looking for an "opportunity". We have a security system and always arm it even for small trips. we put a locking gate on our driveway this year. so sad that we have to be constantly... CONSTANTLY on guard! a lot of the theft is small level, things taken from outbuildings or off decks. we always let several trusted neighbors know where we're going and how to reach us if needed. we try to watch for each other. there are getting to be only a few of us who haven't been "hit" in the last several years. this all started with a local tribe building a casino in a formerly quiet rural area.

we did a hike yesterday while the power was out, about 5-6 miles. nice workout and in cell range. this morning I had my annual physical, labs, a new pneumonia vaccine. then we did a 30 mile ride. warm and sunny out...I do better when its cooler, but 30 miles is 30 miles.
Dawn that's lovely you could maintain a good relationship in spite of a divorce. so many times it is the opposite... nice to hear that you could stay friends.

Deb I know what you mean about a hefty bag.... you would think it might be possible to use the same size and type of connectors so you don't need a dozen... just part of a plan to keep us buying stuff. every phone, tablet, laptop use different ones. so I will keep the watch simple.

Good evening ladies!

Today at lunch we did Upper Fix. I kept my weights at 3 or 5 lbs and that was good. I also did some nice shoulder stretches afterwards which felt amazing

Valerie...I forgot to comment about the break ins. So terrible. Such scum that do that. Hate people that come in and steal from hard working people. glad you have an alarm system. Great hike that you did!

Deb...good luck at the competition. Fingers crossed for Keegan and Kylee. Yes...would love to see a video.

I am so aggravated with my shoulder. I felt wonderful and so strong one minute and then bam pain and discomfort again. I agree it is good to have the MRI just to rule out anything major. Dr is thinking PT is the next step which I really do not have time for but of course will make time.

Lynda...I remember when your shoulder was bothering you. Started when you were doing STS correct? My shoulder felt great during meso 1. However, I was not using really heavy weights like the first time I did STS and I cut down on the pushups. Oh well...I am more bothered that I need to stay away from my heavy bag! I LOVE my heavy bag. I have stayed away from it for a while now and only have done workouts here and there in hopes that I'll soon be back full force. :(

Thanks Judy on the SB workout. I love everything SB so I will certainly check that one out.

Thinking of you Dawn.

Hi to Josie! Can't wait for pictures!!!!

Good morning & Happy Weekend!

Well, the trial went well...Kylee didn't qualify, but she was awesome! She was doing great, and we came upon an obstacle ( it's called a "broad jump") that we really don't train for in class, she refused it 3 times, (which ends up disqualifying the run) but otherwise she was great. It will most likely be in her course tomorrow so I will have to practice this with her more. We have a "make-shift" one that John made years ago, I'll try it with her in the yard later.

Lynda, my friend did record the run, and will send it to me. I'll post it here. Hopefully Keegan will do well today and we will have that recorded. If he qualifies it will mean he gets this title. I did notice that Cathe has been giving some verbal modifications recently. I can't wait to see what a workout with a modifier is like with her. I wonder if it will be one of the usual crew, or someone new.

Valerie, wow, that's pretty nervy of someone to just walk into a place like that...I wonder if it's kids? Especially if they are taking small things off decks etc. I agree on the frustration with cords and chargers. Like Apple, why can't my iPod and iPad have the same charger? They make the ends different so you have to have 2 cords etc.

Lori, hope the shoulder gets better. You DO have time for PT. Replace one of your workouts with the PT exercises! :) I know how it is, I hated doing PT exercises at home when I was going for my back.

Hi to Dawn, Judy and Josie,

Off early this morning, I am working the morning, then John is bringing Keegan to the arena about an hour before his run so he is not cooped up in a crate while I am working.

Will check back later,

Have a great day!
