Good morning,

Just getting us started...going to try one of the new KCM's then I will be back to read yesterday's posts!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK with 1 lb. gloves and last night took Max for a 3 mile walk.

Josie, The Normal Heart is on tonight on HBO. It has great reviews.

They keep talking about rain, but we have had .12 inch so far. So much for weathermen!

DH sold almost 1000 dollars of his meats at yesterday's farmer's market and the last couple days of people coming up to the farm. No doubt the e-coli scare and recall on beef has helped, but he was really surprised at how well he's been doing. I'm glad he saved some of his filet mignons for us tomorrow.

Lori, it's nice that you are so close to your parents' graves. Mine are way out in Minnesota, but I do have a standing order with a local florist to place planters every Memorial Day.

We must have a very different sense of humor, Valerie. I think Doc Martin and its characters are hilarious, and Nebraska was one of my favorites last year--for its humor (I loved the air compressor bit), the poignant ending for father and son, and the terrific black and white cinematography. I also thought the Lutheran vs. Catholic Midwestern insights were spot-on and resonated with my own experience growing up with a rabid Missouri synod Lutheran grandmother who would get apoplectic if I told her I was going to a dance.

Enjoy your Memorial Day everyone!

Good afternoon, or almost evening!

I did the KCM that is where you use a piece of cardio equipment for about 90 seconds, then do some weight moves, back on cardio equipment etc. It as ok, I think I need to go faster and heavier the next time.

Lynda, I wish you lived closer, I would be purchasing from your DH too!

Valerie, did you watch "Doc Marten" the movie? or did you start the TV series? I have not seen the movie, but one of my friends said it is different than the TV series. Like Lynda, I loved it too, wish the new seasons did not take so long to film.

Josie, how was the ride yesterday? You are getting so close to the "real" ride, I bet you are getting excited!

Lori, Yes, I would agree that taking a pool and deck down would count as a workout! LOL

Judy, same as with Lori, no workout needed for you this weekend...what you are doing is definitely enough!

We did some cleaning up of beds and mulching in the yard. I am having a landscaper do the front and side of our house this year...we have a corner lot and it is so much work. I told John that it will be his Father's Day gift from the dogs :).

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Deb, we watched Doc Marten the Tv series, the first disk ...maybe 4 episodes?. It was OK but I didn't like it enough to continue. DH felt the same way. Both of us have worked in medical field forever, and maybe that's a big part of the problem. I usually don't like medical series or movies although I try to watch with an open mind ... they always seem contrived to me.
I thought Nebraska was deadly boring.... somehow it didn't resonate with me. DH kept glaring at me since I put it on the queue.... so it was MY fault! I am OK with black and white... it looked like how I remember a lot of small mid west towns... but could not wait for it to be over. Oh well... Lynda I'm glad you liked it. I think "funny" is the hardest thing to hit right .... way harder than drama. this seemed dismal, sad and depressing to me.
I don't remember if I posted about 'All is Lost". I really enjoyed that one and thought RR was terrific! no dialogue really in the entire movie. Also liked Captain Phillips very much. I don't want to sound negative... as if I never like anything.
no workout yet today, but DH is working out now and I will be next.

we bought a Roku device and set it up. so far just the free channels. not hard at all.... seeing as DH did it!! I think we will go with Netflix streaming and maybe buy an antenna tomorrow and see if we can get reception for local news channels.

Good morning,

I am waiting for the Roto-Rooter guy to get here...yes, backed up sewer drain! UGH...Glad this happened on a day off.

Another KCM on the agenda for today....we'll see...

Valerie, glad you are getting the "alternative" to cable working for you. I discontinued the service and never looked back. Saved tons of $$$$.

Take care,

Did Flextrain late afternoon yesterday. I like that one a lot...so glad you all talked me into buying it! I do all, including core and time zips by.
watching a series right now called "top of the lake". good so far. has holly hunter ( looking quite different than she did in "Saving Grace") and Elizabeth Moss. I like both of them. I was thinking the first time I saw Moss was in "West Wing". I'd watch that series again if I get a chance.

Oh Deb, plumbing issues are the worst, aren't they? and most are not "do it yourself" projects. Last summer our septic backed up because the last servicing something wasn't put in place properly so it didn't drain right. it's under part of our garden and suddenly it was soggy. it had been several years so it didn't matter much...would have needed routine service but we paid extra for a sunday service to leave Monday.

Hi Ladies,

No workout today, just packing and relaxing. I had an adjustment and a deep tissue massage on Saturday and felt great yesterday. He took all the knots out, but it hurt like hell :). Thank God I have a high tolerance for pain.

Deb, I did two short rides Saturday and Sunday and shipped my bike yesterday. And yes, I'm getting excited ;)

I will be back later.

Josie

Good evening ladies,

Yesterday was 50 minutes of barre and about 30 minutes of walking chester. Was beautiful when I left but clouds and thunder rolled in real quick so we headed back. Then it was beautiul again in about 20 minutes after I got home. Weird.

This morning was a workout blender of a mixture of leg workouts with firewalkers. Was about 45 minutes.

Drove to New Bedford to plant flowers and had lunch with my brother and his wife. Nice day.

Deb...septic is the worse. Which reminds me I am going to call tomorrow to be pumped. Been a while. Hope your issues are resolved soon and easily. Sounds like you like the new KCM's. I have not even reviewed mine yet. Been so busy this weekend.

Judy...did you get both KCM's also?

Josie...you must be very excited! I remember last year when you first mentioned this ride to me. Hard to believe it is here already. Looking forward to the pictures.

Valerie...let me know how you like the roku. I hear good things about them.

Lynda... Wow that is a lot of meat your DH sold! That is wonderful. I bet the filet will be delicious! Ended up being kind of over cast today. Very surprised since they all said today was the best out of the weekend.

Have a great evening ladies!

Good morning,

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. You could not ask for better weather here at least. No rain, and not sweltering hot, no humidity...just perfect! I am off the rest of the week, I hope this weather stays like this.

The Roto-rooter guy came on time, was very pleasant and did the job in no time flat. We know that we should regularly have this done to prevent any back up, but the time just flies away from us and we forget to call etc. They "claim" that they don't charge more on weekends or holidays, but how would you know? They won't give you a price over the phone, they come and do a "free estimate". Like I would turn then away once they are here with all the equipment etc?

Valerie, glad you like Flex Train, it's one of Cathe's best in my book!

Josie, I never had a deep tissue massage, just the regular ones. My favorite luxury is facials. Not that they would help you for your ride though..LOL.

Lori, It sounds like you had a nice day with your brother etc. We don't actually have a septic system (not sure what that is but is there a tank of some kind?)....it goes from the stack in our house, out to the lawn, where the guy goes down some opening with his snake...I have tried the first workout on each of the new KCM's. I really like the Muscle Up one...she supersets 2 exercises, 8 reps and goes slow enough so you can really use heavy weights...The first of that DVD was Chest, back and shoulders. I hope the second is legs, biceps and triceps.

Hi to Judy and Lynda,

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

Yesterday I did LLA (48:33), and Sunday night took Max for our usual 3 mile walk. This morning I did Jazzercise Hiit (47:00).

We had a very nice cookout with MIL and FIL, back from Florida. They are still very sad at times by the loss of their daughter and are trying to ready statements when this girl comes up for sentencing. The filets absolutely melted in the mouth and I did some potatoes, a salad, and green beans. DH received these incredible gourmet brownies from a customer and we had brownie sundaes for dessert. It took awhile to get nice yesterday, and this was strange because the weathermen all said Monday was supposed to be the best day of the week.

Deb, the Muscle Up dvd sounds somewhat interesting, although it also resembles the Burn Sets maybe? Septic system backups can be a real horror. A friend of mine had a terrible problem last summer, and her home insurance apparently didn't cover this major repair. I can't remember why, but you know insurance companies and their small print.

Josie, those deep tissue massages sound excruciating. But hey, if they take out all the kinks, it's all to the good. The Normal Heart was really kind of shocking--so much righteous anger. One long monologue that seemed a bit too much for me.

Hi to Judy and Valerie!

Just got back from taking DH in for an upper endoscopy. wow. the procedure itself is fast, but they need to knock you out and the drugs are not worn off yet. nothing bad found. he's been having indigestion issues and this was a needed step to make sure no ulcers, reflux, etc. so funny, he can hardly stand up after but tells me he's fine to drive. yeah, right.

Deb, septic has a big buried concrete tank below our house, so things flow downhill. all liquid waste flows into it and is "digested" and water then flows out into a drain field below the tank. most rural areas have septic since no sewer lines. how often it needs to be serviced depends on size of tank, how many people in the house etc. we get serviced about every 7 years.

Josie, best of luck on your ride. I hope it's fun and lovely! Looking forward to pics.

didn't get a workout in yesterday. we tried the next step in our TV adventures, bought an outdoor antenna. installed it on the roof... it is VERY high ( 40-50 feet) but it didn't work. we got all kinds of crap stations ...same junk that fills up the cable line up..... but not the news channels. only one that came in decently was FOX and they are not news IMO, regardless what they call themselves. there are 2 kinds of signals, VHF and UHF and Fox is the former, while the real news stations are the latter. we spent a lot of time and readjusted, lifted, pointed it different ways, and we are within mileage range but no luck. this was a lot of work with ladders, up and down etc. so it goes back and we will forge ahead and see what else we can do. the roku device works nicely and was very easy to set up. I'm not sure if there's a way to stream local news from the internet... I think we could if we wanted to use a laptop... but this is getting complicated. we are about 40 miles away and the antenna has a 65 mile range. but no.
I don't like massages and never get facials either.... my skin is fine if left alone and not fussed with, a facial would aggravate my rosacea ... nonexistent if I don't mess with it. I do my own nails, so no mani/pedi ever. I am a cheap date, I guess.

workout later today. a lovely day, too bad we can't ride but DH has to be quiet today.

Good evening ladies!

Deb...This morning I tried out KCM's new weight workout and did the first one which is the chest, shoulders, back you mentioned. I really liked it and the 30 minutes just flew by! It did feel strange at first because she is so different than Cathe. I am looking forward to the other one on this DVD. I did not buy the other one Home Gym Intervals I think it is called. I didn't think it would push me.

I am soooo excited about Cathe's new DVD's. I am sure she had me in mind when see thought to develop this series! ;). I will be preordering these!!

Valerie...that stinks when you put so much effort into setting something up, going through all the steps, double checking and it still does not work. I have been there and it is so frustrating. Hope your DH is up and about soon and feeling good.

Lynda...must be so hard for your inlaws. Losing a child is so difficult. My friend at work who lost his daughter to the drug Molly last summer has been having a difficult time. We all try and support him when we can but you see the pain in him. It is so sad. I imagine you never get rid of that pain. I do not see how.

I attached a picture of my next home project. This is my inspiration photo to cover the large sand circle in the yard from removing the pool. The fire pit is bought as a kit from Home Depot then you buy the gravel and the paving stone for the outside rim. I am on vacation the week of July 4 so this will be a good time to do it. I think it will look great and perfect for what I need it for!

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Good morning,

I am taking a car in today for regular service, DH doesn't go in to the office until 11:00 so he can follow me and bring me back home. Then I have a DR appointment for a physical this afternoon. Isn't vacation great?

Lynda, it has to be horrible for your in-laws, ( and your DH of course). So sad and when it is something like what happened to her, it makes you angry as well. Muscle Up is not like Burn Sets, you don't go to failure or anything like that, just do 2 exercises for one body part, back to back, 2 or 3 times, then switch to another 2 different ones, etc. She does Back, Chest and Shoulders for workout #1, then Legs & Arms for workout #2. Some decent premixes for full body, and also Time Saver full body.

Valerie, we definitely do not have a septic tank, probably because we are in the city. Hope your DH is feeling better today. I feel for you and the antenna episode etc. I get so frustrated with that type of thing...kind of like with computers! I don't use most of my DVD's either, but this series is interesting, it has the things I like such as heavy weight work, and low impact stuff. Also, the fact that they are 47 minutes or less is attractive to me. For $10 a workout, you can't beat that price so I will pre-order.

Lori, I am ok with the Gym Interval one, to toss in once in a while, but because it has weight work and cardio, I guess you shouldn't do weight work the day before or after it, so it is more like a circuit workout. It probably would not be intense enough for you, unless you run at break neck speeds on the treadmill ( like KCM does) and use very heavy weights in between.

Hi to Josie, & Judy,

Take care,

Hi Ladies,

I did not workout yesterday. I finished packing for the ride and just did some stretching.
Today my plan is to go and do easy spin class, but I have to wait for the electrician who said would be here between 8-12 :(. The class is at 10 so we will see if he gets here before that.

Lori, your project is beautiful. I would love to have one of those fireplaces in my back yard.

Valerie, thank you. I will send pictures every day for deb to post at her convenience.

Garance, I agree with you on The Normal Heart. I do remember how my brother's friends who got sick in the mid 80's were scrambling to find a Dr. who could take care of them. It was very sad to hear that they were dying so young.

Deb, glad that you are doing your workouts. Keep it up!

Hi to Judy!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Burn Sets ch, ba, sh (50:43), and last night I took Max for a 3 mile walk.

Deb, I am ambivalent about the new Cathe dvds. It looks like a lot of high impact stuff, and because they are all in one case, harder to sell off. I would much prefer if I could pre-order individual dvds. I like the low impact hiit one and the two upper body weight hit workouts. The other stuff just sounds like a lot of jumping around--on the step, off the step, in circuits--blech!. I wish she would consider a modifier, but no, that just seems to be outside her thinking. The KCM sounds interesting. I might take a look at the clip at her website. Incidentally, I looked at the dog food thread. Max's breeder recommended Diamond kibble from Tractor Supply. It's made in America, and the first ingredient is meat protein, not corn, which is typical of the stuff you buy at the supermarket and it's made in America. Max likes all four of the 'flavors', but is least enthused by the lamb one. He's never had any issues, but he likes to mix in the occasional vole and field mouse--hah!

Josie, some light days are probably good before the long ride. Given how dry California is, would they give you a permit for a pit like that?

Lori, your project looks great. I think these new Cathe dvds are probably perfect for you and probably not so good for me.

Valerie, I hope your DH is feeling better. Do they put something down the throat? Must be very uncomfortable if you are NOT completely out.

Hi to Judy!

I believe they slide the scope down your throat ... looking as they go for signs of reflux or lesions, irritation. they go into the stomach, into the duodenum and look around and back out. he had a slight bit of irritation but he's been taking an acid blocker for months. they scrape a few areas and do some cultures for helicobacter which is where my bet is placed. it's just antibiotic treatment if that's what it is. but they do knock you out and because the procedure is so quick, you are still pretty "stupid" shortly after. he was in and out in 39 min but came home and slept for a while. yes, no question, I drove.

I will look at the new disks but doubt I'll order. I have enough choices so I don't get tired of any and sometimes "too many choices" is... just that.

Lori that looks like a delightful project that would be usable a lot more of the year than a pool would be.

we took the antenna back and bought a google chrome stick that we can use with the laptop. supposedly this will stream local channels. we'll see how it works.

I talked to my friend who had the pancreatic ca. we talked for more than 2 hours. all is not going smoothly. I wish I had more hope that this will work itself out. she has had so many setbacks and she is not on chemo yet and doesn't want to do it. she sees that doc this week.

Good evening ladies!

This morning was workout 1 of KCM shape up. Tonight was the bonus barre on LL&A along with the core of LL&A.

Valerie...let me know how the chrome stick works for you. I have not neard of this so going to google it. We spend tons on cable every month and I have been intrigued with what you and Deb have done. Sorry to hear this about your friend. Chemo is a tough decision.

Deb and Lynda...I really like KCM's style. I find the few of her workouts that I have done or reviewed you can make them as hard or as easy as you want. Plus I love her personality. Glad I passed on the home intervals. I am a slow runner!

I have recorded The Normal Heat...after hearing the reviews I may not watch afterall. School is still out though.

Judy...hope you received the new KCM's yesterday. Tomorrow morning I am going to try out the 2nd workout in Lift Up.

Have a good night all!

Hi Everyone,

I haven't had too much time to post, or do much of anything else. DH, SIL and I spent all of the 3 day weekend trying to clean out FIL's house. We rented a large dumpster and had it set up in his driveway. We foolishly thought 1 would be enough. We started Saturday morning and by Sunday noon it was full and we had only gotten through the garage and the attic above the garage! I'm guessing we will fill 2 more dumpsters before this is over. I don't think we will have the house empty before July. Also, we had to take FIL to his geriatric/memory doctor today and he was officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's. They are giving him a drug, Namenda, that is supposed to help with the sundowning and dementia symptoms.

I did get the new KCM workouts yesterday. I tried out the Muscle Up short leg premix tonight and it is really good! I agree with you Lori, I like KCM's style and personality. I think I am going to like both of these DVDs. The Home Gym Intervals should work well with my spinning bike.

Josie-I need to get another deep tissue massage. They do hurt, but you feel so much better afterwards. Good luck with your ride! I wish I was going with you!

Valerie-Glad your husband's scope went well. DH had to have one of those a few years ago too.

Deb-I am excited about the new Cathe series! I also like the shorter format.

Lorie-your project looks great! You have a beautiful yard!

Lynda-It sounds like you had a nice cookout, the filets sound so good! I feel very bad for your in-laws, it's so hard to lose a child.
