Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/24

Good morning. we are off for a road ride this morning while its dry and pleasant. tomorrow will be showery/wetter so our garden day. proud of the long ride yesterday, 12.5 miles with a lot of hills. too many people in the parking area but we only had to deal it as we finished up. this morning will be less crowded. we are back, not busy at all, 25 miles in 2 hrs 10 min. a pleasant ride thru farms and farmland.

I looked at the perfect 30 clips. I don't think this would be good for me. one looked like a "maybe" but I think this will get passed by.

This morning I wanted a short gentle workout. I did WS3 One Mile of Motivation then the WS3 Total stretch. My total time was 33 minutes and 129 calories burned.

Valerie, I’m glad that you had a good ride this morning. I preordered the Perfect 30 workouts, but I will probably not use the higher impact Hiit. The others look appealing to me.

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful day.

Hello,

Today I did LITE Metabolic Blast, 44 minutes, 296 calories.

Judy, glad the root coloring worked for you. Did you do your whole head? If so, how did you manage it? I could not find a youtube video that showed how to section your hair, and then how to color the roots. That is too bad that your area is still on lockdown. We are in Phase 1, which really is not much different than total lockdown. What is open is really more like construction etc.

Valerie, Sounds like a great ride! I can imagine the stress if you have to have it redone each year. You would think they would see your chart and take extra time and care the first time. they actually have dog dishes with a "bump" in the middle which makes the dog have to eat around the bump. It slows him down a little, but not much. Did you do the step tutorials while using your step? It may make it easier. I didn't see that there were clips for the new Perfect 30. series, have to go over there and check them out.

Carolyn, glad your daughter is doing well, especially with all that is going on right now as well. Nice job on Rock'm Sock'm. Good idea to have an agenda for the investment Zoom calls. I would guess that business offices that use them do the same thing.

Diane Sue, I didn't realize Amazon Prime had free workouts! That's great that one of them made you feel better. I bet it was strange eating in a restaurant after all this time. We ate out so much, but actually, I don't miss it. I also heard what your husband was saying about the masks. There are industrial masks, ( like he mentioned) and medical masks. The industrial ones are ok in a pinch I guess, but like he said, things get through them. It sounds like that recliner may be just what you need to help your neck.

Lori, empty nesters again, literally! Good that you went ahead and ordered that new series! It wasn't actually my shoulder that was hurting, it was my back, under the shoulder blade. Kind of where they put the stethoscope when checking your lungs? You should try making bread the old fashioned way. :). John's next attempt is going to be English muffins.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend,
Take care,

I used to bake all kinds of bread but DH and I both took lunches and it was used daily. now we seldom eat sandwiches. I love seed bread and what I can buy is probably better than what I could make. I keep it frozen and take out one slice at a time as we need it. made French bread and bagels but I don't think they worked as well. never tried English muffins. I don't like the store ones so that's worth a try. the last thing I made was focaccia … not hard and turns out great but not unless I find flour locally.
its raining today so not riding. my butt needs a break. plan to do garden things this afternoon if it clears off. deb there are clips showing perfect 30 under shopping. if I learn step basics... I don't think I'll like it except occasional use. I will keep working at Cardio party working premixes and I can always go to the utube tutorials to get reminded. its too hard for me to relax and enjoy it.
Deb I section my hair using big plastic clips. holds the top hair out of the way so you can get at the hair below it. my hair is fairly long. I use a what looks like a basting brush to dab color on the roots, one section at a time starting at the bottom and working up. Not as good as a salon, but OK.

This morning I did Low Impact Sweat for 47 minutes and 329 calories burned. My average heart rate was 131 and maximum heart rate was 160.

Deb, great job with LiTE Metabolic Blast. Making bread the old fashioned way is very therapeutic and relaxing for me. It depends on how much time I want to devote to it. I have a Bosch Universal mixer that mixes then kneads the dough, and it works very well.

Valerie, there are no clips for Perfect 30 yet, just descriptions of the workouts. Cathe responded to someone who asked that they are not filming yet. I don’t eat sandwiches, but I like really good bread for my toast. I keep it in the freezer and take out one slice at a time.

Judy, Great job with coloring your roots. I’m trying different ways to manage my hair in it’s natural state. Between my husband’s hair and mine, I spend a lot of time researching grooming!

Hello to Diane Sue and Lori.

scroll down and there is a clip from each disk. PhA, Imax, Sync , ab stacker

I sort out my whole head with the big clips, but enlist DH to paint the roots in the back. maybe I could do it, but I don't want to drip dye all over or miss sections. hair is mostly still brown in the back so not critical.

will do upper body weights in a bit. going to xc ski tomorrow, probably last time around here. this is the last place with enough snow for us not-so-great skiers. plenty of snow for decent back country skiers, for months yet.

Hello,

Today I did Walk Fit Vol 1, 32 minutes, 238 calories. Very hot here today. I did some weeding, but was burning up. I had to keep coming into the house to cool off.

Valerie, what is seed bread? We get a multi-grain bread at the co-op, and it has a lot of different seeds in the crust, very hardy. Yes, those are the Step Boss DVD's. Perfect 30 is the new ones that she just started working on and gave us descriptions, with the presale. Then the shut downs hit and I think all productions stopped. I bought the PHA 3 one from that group, and one other for the Chair Stretch, but not the other step ones. Thanks for the root dying tips. I am going to have to try my whole head again, as I don't see our salons opening for at least 2-4 weeks.

Carolyn, I think you are right, making bread can be therapeutic. John enjoys it. He experimented with the recipe yesterday, trying to make more of an Italian bread, similar to what you get in restaurants, but he was disappointed in how it came out. It is still good for toast. :)

Judy, yep, that is what I have been doing too, but when my hair separates now on the sides, you can see a nice inch of gray...:(.

Hi to Diane Sue & Lori,

Take care,

I'm still here today! Deb, theres a brand called Famous Dave's out here. he makes a seed bread, might have been the first one, as does Franz and Orowheat. it's whole wheat bread with a variety of seeds in and on top. sesame, flax, poppy, sunflower you name it. makes great avocado toast. brand name might be different east and also not sure if these are all national brands. I haven't had any toast in a long time, maybe tomorrow. I like to sprinkle Tajin seasoning on it. Mexican lime and chili.

My hair sucks up dye readily, so if I do the whole thing.... it will be too dark. I only do the grown out layer.

Valerie, Cathe’s preorder is for Perfect 30, a series of shorter workouts. Step Boss is definitely not the one that you want unless it’s the PHA 3. Dave’s Bread is what I buy if I don’t get the seeded bread from Publix bakery. I like avocado toast with 1/4 avocado, everything bagel seasoning, and a dash of sriiracha. It’s so good!

Carolnn…. shows you how closely I follow anything step related!. I thought that was the new series. that was definitely not for me, and perfect 30 is probably not either.

If you see Tajin seasoning give it a try. I like it better than everything but the bagel. again, I don't know if its available nationally. could be with regular spices or with Mexican foods. every store is different. its a small plastic bottle with a green and white label and orange powder. I love this on avocado toast. wasn't sure the first time but it grew on me quickly.

did chiseled upper body today. I skipped the windmills. too awkward a position, twisted feeling rather than strength.

Today I did Step Boss I Max 4 timesaver #5 10 blasts only, 30 minutes, heart rate 115/155, 138 calories, 2,587 steps. I then did Cathe Lite Strong Body Stacked Sets Lower body 43 minutes, 143 calories, heart rate 107/139, 1,331 steps. I finished with Amazon Prime Yoga Therapy Neck Pain & shoulders + an add on yoga segment, 27 minutes, 24 calories, heart rate 74/94, 49 steps. TOTAL time was 1 hour 40 minutes, 305 calories, 3,967 steps. Yesterday I did go upstairs for a bit in the afternoon and did another free Yoga for neck pain with Lindsey Samper from the series on Amazon Prime. It helped a lot. We binge watched the whole 10 episode season of Upload on Prime last night. Then it ended with a cliff hanger like usual.
I have to rush around tomorrow to get out for errands since my chair will arrive in the afternoon.

Strong Body Stacked Sets Lower
2 rounds each group of exercises
Barbell squats 30# 32 reps
alternating cross tap lunges 10# dbs 12 reps
barbell plie squats (I used 1 dumbbells rather than hold the bar in front) 30# dumbbell
alternating rear lunge with 2/2 deadlift 12# dbs 10 reps
side to side pivoting squats 15# db
repeat
Group 2 2 rounds of this group
static lunges 15# db 32 reps
wide squat to side lunge 12# db 12 reps each side
wide stance deadlift 30 # barbell 10 reps
side/crossback /side lunge combo 12# db 12 reps
repeat

Valerie, I would have purchased the new workout anyway. I don't even know why I sit back and wait. I just use the squeeze bottle when doing hair color. I still have a bowl and the brush from when I used to do the brush on color. I use the big plastic clips when I need them. Most of the time I just part my hair in thin strips and work from front top to back and then finish with the sides. I used to make bread all of the time. My grandmother used to buy wheat and grind it with a flour grinder attachment with her Kitchenaid mixer. It made the best bread. She would make seed bread as well. I found I usually needed a little vital wheat gluten to help activate the yeast. I sometimes get Dave's Killer Bread here. I don't buy bread often for myself. It has to be in the freezer and if it stays too many months I throw it out. I wish Sprouts would get the La Tortilla factory low carb tortillas back in. The brown rice ones I got from Food For Life were dry. I have used them before and they were definitely fresher. I have seen the Tajin spices at Sprouts.

Carolyn, those Walk Strong 3 short workouts are nice for those times when you don't want a lengthy workout, but want to get something in.

Deb, that is what I thought with the dog dishes. I remember looking at them before. I didn't know there were free workouts on Amazon Prime till I had looked to purchase dvds and saw I could purchase some of Jessica Smiths. Then other workouts sort of started showing up and I realized that some were free to those who had Amazon Prime memberships. I seem to get a lot of pain in that area and those neck and shoulder stretches have you strengthen the scapular area which is what my PT said I need to do. Still boxing seems to set things off for me off and on. I guess I get too aggressive at times forgetting form or punching too hard. I treat my roots as resistant grey and leave the color on the longer length of time so I won't see grey roots showing like that.
My older daughter always liked kneading the bread, so I was more than happy to oblige her. Otherwise I used my Kitchenaid mixer to do the kneading.
I thought I read a response somewhere on a question about the shutdowns affecting filming and Cathe's had responded that it has not affected them so far. Maybe I am wrong. Kelly has a couple of new ones in the works and her and the others had been practicing with distancing. It seems something came up though and filming will still happen soon, but not all of the ones that were going to be in it can be in them.

Good morning ladies,

Saturday was a rest day. My son and fiancé came over for some cocktails by the fire. Was a nice time. So weird not hugging them and sitting so far away. We made the best of it and still had a good time.

Doing better with SBF‘s challenge and glad I switched. I really wish I did not get bored so quickly with other rotations. But it is what it is.

Deb....I have decided to start making bread the old fashion way...well sort of anyways. I have a kitchen-aid professional series 6 I bought almost 20 years ago. This mixer is a beast! Going to use it to mix and knead. (I have all the attachments) I bought it because at the time I was heavily in to making cheesecakes and I was constantly burning out the motors on my cheap hand held. My husband laughs and said did you stop cooking when I met him?? Lol!! I have ingredients arriving today and will let you know how I make out.

Diane Sue...making another lower carb bread today that has great reviews. The first I made I did not like at all.

I have never heard of Dave‘s Bread..oh perhaps I just never noticed. Will look for it next time I am at the store.

I really need to color my hair. I colored a couple of weeks into my furlough but my hair grows fast and it is looking pretty white around my face. I have been lazy and have been wearing headbands. I only have white at the top where my bangs start down to my ears. it is just a line of white. Nothing anywhere else...so the headband hides everything! Lol!

My son was called back to work starting today. He is so happy to get out of his apartment. I am still dreading the day I get called! :(

Going to be really warm here today and the next few days. I am looking forward to it.

Have a great day all!

Today I did ICE Chiseled Lower Body Blast + Icy Core 2 for 61 minutes and 341 calories burned. My average heart rate was 120 and maximum heart rate was 164.

Valerie, great job with Chiseled Upper Body. I agree with you about the windmills being an awkward move. I use a 3# dumbbell with it for that reason. That’s funny about the Step Boss workout series! You should give Perfect 30 another look. I think some of the workouts might appeal to you.

Lori, it‘s wonderful that you could visit with your son and his fiancé in a safe manner. Valerie shared a recipe for Low Carb Seeded Quick Bread a few months ago that is really good. The recipe is from Eating Well magazine and I am sure that you can find it online. Kneading your bread with the Kitchenaid mixer will really simplify the bread making process.

Waving hello to Diane Sue, Deb, and Judy. Have a nice day everyone.

Hi,

Today I did LITE Stacked Sets Upper Body, plus did 10,849 steps yesterday.

Valerie, Good job on Chiseled Upper Body. That seed bread sounds like the multi-grain one we get at the co-op. Yum!

Diane Sue, that is what I figured with the boxing. It's not that forceful in Cardio Party, but that is all I can connect to where the pain was. I would think that if Cathe and crew were working, by now they would be having updates on the filming etc. I remember that answer to someone's question on filming. If gyms were not considered essential, I wouldn't think that they could go in there and do anything.

Lori, that is great that you can still see your son and fiancé, even at a distance. Hope the bread works out well. Warm here today as well.....91 right now.

Carolyn, nice job on Chiseled Lower Body/ICY Core2!

Hi to Judy,

Take care,

I had to get done early this morning so I did Coffey Fit Raw Cardio and Tone doing the cardio 3 times before I did the floor work. This was 42 minutes, 208 calories, heart rate 127/171, 3,190 steps. The cardio is done two times with a slight change in the moves on the original workout. I changed up the split switches on the second time through the cardio I shortened the stride and did not go as deep and the third time through I did scissor hops with overhead presses. The first round bothered my knee a bit.
My neck feels much better today. I want to keep up those yoga workouts each day as much as possible because they seem to have helped a lot. My chair came, now I need my new plug bar I bought for both of our chairs. I had to use an extension cord to check it's functions. The plug bar will be here tomorrow. It is really a comfy chair.

Lori, my son still has my original Kitchenaid that I got so many years ago which is around 35 years old now. When I got my new one, my husband laughed when it came and said it is like my old one on steroids. I love my Kitchenaid. Sorry the other bread was not a hit. Hopefully the next one is a good one. I am sorry you are dreading going back to work. You used to seem to love working. That is great that you husband gets to go back to work. I will be so glad when things are back to somewhat normal.

Carolyn, nice work on Ice Lower Body Blast. I almost used that one for my lower workout yesterday since Cathe puts some cardio moves into it.

Deb, nice work on the steps and upper body workout. It may be that Cathe and Crew are slowed down. I think Kelly is in NJ so I don't know how things will work with the filming processes. We are opening up a lot more here. Still a lot of people wearing face masks and distancing. I do believe some gyms are open. My preacher mentioned going to his and all of the people running around with masks and cleaning constantly as people used the equipment and the distancing as to skipping pieces of equipment for space between. He is very active and in his late 70's. He was surprised with an unexpected heart attack and he kicked up his gym visits and watching his nutrition. His wife uses the gym pool. He also is an avid golfer. I realized I have been doing a lot of boxing as Kelly fits boxing into a good amount of her workouts. I have to remember to cross train workout styles and take care when doing jerky movements.

We went xc skiing this morning, 2.5 hours altogether up and back down. could have gone longer but …. end of the road. we used to go up the slope past the road end but in 30 years the trees have gotten so big and dense we can't thrash up there anymore. big trees with tree wells around each one. we maybe able to ski in MT yet, but are about done here. I wish I were a better skier so we could go up higher, but neither of us is that good on the downhill. when boots went plastic I could not stand them. loads of snow yet.

My ROM is good. my hands are not in the right position to hold weight vertically in windmills. we are not all hooked up exactly the same. Not worth risking tweaking something for one so-so exercise.
I remember pulling a small muscle in my back doing one of the kickbox punching routines. woke up the next day with a pain that lasted a day or two. only one time, never knew what caused it. there was not much to the kickboxing in cardio party.

Lori the low carb seeded bread is yummy but it's not a "sandwich" type of bread. does not need a Kitchen Aid mixer! I cook a lot but never bought a big mixer, just have a kitchen aid hand mixer. the low carb bread is a crumbly sweetbread. I love it but haven't made it for a while because it was too many WW points. I'll post it again in case you'd like to try it. Famous Dave, Franz, orowheat all make "seed breads" that are toast-able and great for sandwiches or avocado toast. Daves was the first one I tried. sometimes slices are too thick so I switched to the Franz one. I know Orowheat has a different brand name in the east, a name like Harold's or Arnold's? don't know about Franz. did not know Daves was available nationwide. Im not avoiding bread specifically, but I've eaten less to keep my daily WW points lower.
I will go look at the Perfect 30 again. I know its a good deal. not sure why I hesitate so much.

This morning I did Party Rockin Step #2, a timesaver premix. My time was 34 minutes with 231 calories burned. Average heart rate was 129 and maximum heart rate was 153. I should say that I tried to do the workout since I wasn’t very good at it! It’s been a long time since I last did Party Rockin Step and was learning all over again.

Valerie, I didn’t mean to imply that the quick bread required a mixer and kneading. I was referring to yeast bread. I’m sorry that I wasn’t clear. The Low Carb Seeded Bread is definitely high in WW points (8 points), but I find that it’s very filling.

Have a wonderful day everyone.
