Good morning,

We are back....they had wifi at the cabin, but for some reason we couldn't connect to it.

I will check back later....going to the 17 mile marker of the Buffalo Marathon that is today...it's 3 blocks from our house and my niece is running in it.....want to cheer her on...she has run 1/2 marathons, this is her first full one...

Later...

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday I did my Workout Blender Travel Fit and it was perfect. Today was SB Total Body Fusion and Advanced Interval Barre. I used my green cathe band for the leg work which worked out really well and I also brought 5 and 1lb weights which ended up being perfect for the upper portion. The shoulder work in this one is killer. Even Suzanne drops down to no weights at a point. I actually have travel weights I bought on Ebay years ago but did not bring them this trip. You fill them with water and when put together they go from 4,8 to 16lb dumbbells. My DH thinks I am very strange. :)

The projector has been amazing on this trip. We watched GOT on it and also last night we did Wii bowling. Tons of fun. My right butt cheek was a little sore today. We are planning the same thing tonight. Perhaps I'll change legs to balance things out. lol!

Deb...very nice to meet and cheer your niece on!!!!

The weather has been nice. A little cool and breezy but nice and sunny so all is good. We leave tomorrow morning to drive to New Bedford to pick up my brother. Then we will buy some dlowers and plant on our parent's grave. We have done this now for 20 years and have never missed a memorial weekend.

Have a great day all!

Hi Deb, Lori and any later posters--

This morning I did BarreAmped (68:00).

Lori, it sounds like you are having a lovely little getaway. Those travel weights sound perfect for you--nothing can stop you from getting your workout in!

Deb, I hope your weekend away was fun and relaxing and enjoy watching your niece.

FIL was brought to the hospital here again last night. It sounds like he had another mini-stroke or bleed. My poor MIL is totally frazzled and DH is also very weary from the farmer's market, helping his parents, travelling several miles to and fro for chickens, and now with customers coming to pick up their chickens. I have been trying to help as much as I can. Complicated.

It's supposed to get hot this week, and we desperately need rain here.

Good afternoon,

I'm back after seeing my niece for the race. She amazes me. I give her (and anyone that can do this) a lot of credit.

Lori, your trip sounds lovely. It's so nice that you do that Memorial Day tradition with your brother. Such a great thing to do.

Lynda, so sorry to hear about your FIL's setback. I hope they are able to stabilize him so he can get home soon. Your DH must be exhausted.

Valerie, I hope you are feeling better today.

Judy, sometimes the best time off is the one spent getting to those "things" around the house. Hope you get a nice ride in too.

Josie, those family vacations give good memories don't they? :)

Hi to Deb2 & Dawn,

Not sure what the rest of the day is going to be...I should be doing yard work, but just not feeling it right now. Maybe we will go to a nursery and pick out some plants. I need a good one for my trellis. For some reason we can't keep anything alive on it lately. We used to have really good luck with clematis, but the last few we got never came back. May try to see if there is any wisteria that would work.

Have a great weekend!

Hi everyone -

I've been missing for a few days because I've kind of been in a slump. I haven't been eating so good, and even though I've keeping up with my XTrain rotation, I haven't been giving it my all. Not sure what's going on, but today was a rest day, so I did a half hour bike ride and just some stuff around the house. I'm hoping things improve next week.

Deb - How did your niece do in the marathon? I'm amazed at how anyone can run that far...I mean it's 26 whole miles!! Good for her.
Lori - That's great that you can keep up with your workouts on the road. I've never heard of travel weights before, but that makes a lot of sense. What a nice tradition for you and your brother to plant flowers for your parents every year. Hugs to you.
Lynda - Sorry to hear about your father in law. It's so exhausting for everyone when a family member is dealing with medical issues. By the way, my sister is also named Lynda. There aren't too many people with that spelling, and she was never able to get personalized souvenirs when we went to the tourist traps :(
I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday weekend!

Good evening ladies!

I might not be able to post tomorrow so figured I check in now. I am wide awake after watching Game of Thrones!

Lynda...I am so sorry to hear things have gotten worse for your FIL. So very sad. Your DH must be exhausted. Good that you can help where you can. I can see how things can get complicated. Yeah!!!! With GOT! Not sure if you watched so I will leave it at that.

Dawn...all of us ladies have gone thru a slump at one time or another and everyone is here to support you. You'll get back to it when your ready. The good thing is that you have continued to workout. Sometimes that is half the battle right there. It will be easier to pick up the pace when it is time.

Deb...I agree about marathon runners. The strength that is needed is unbelievable. Good for her and you too for being there to support her!

Have a great night everyone!!!!

I had a several day slump too, but today did pedal power, the full workout, and also core 1. had that minor illness a couple days ago and just did not feel good enough. I think there are good reasons to take rest days and sometimes it might be more mental than physical. I was just tired but felt better today.
marathons have always mystified me. I don't have good enough biomechanics to go that distance. I've hiked 20+ miles in a day with a full backpack but running is different than walking, even with a backpack. I have utmost respect for anyone who can manage it. I always got sick whenever I tried to get my mileage up and eventually decided it was not to be. I could do 5-6 miles several days a week but always got sick after and that got old.

Lynda hope FIL stabilizes and is able to recover.

Deb, there are sometimes causes in the soil, like a fungus. I have a spot where every tree I planted died because of a fungus.....caused some kind of "wilt". first a dogwood, and then a red leaf maple. each took several years to die. we were able to figure out what it was with help of a nearby nursery, and planted a tree unaffected by the wilt disease. try something unrelated to clematis.

Happy Memorial Day, and thank you to all our veterans.

Yesterday we went to a nursery and we bought a wisteria for the trellis in the yard. It has beautiful, grape like purple flowers. I hope it lasts.

Dawn, maybe you need a complete rest day or 2? your body may be telling you to back off a bit. My niece finished the marathon! It was so cool seeing and "high-fiving" her at the 19 mile mark...

Lori, isn't it strange when a TV show or movie keeps us awake? I don't watch GOT, but know how that is...Damages used to do that to me. How long will you be on the Cape?

Lynda, keeping your FIL in my thoughts, hope he is better.

Valerie, glad you are feeling better. I agree on the rest time that is sometimes needed. We came to the same conclusion on the plant, thought it was time to try something different in that spot. Keeping my fingers crossed on the wisteria, also that it is not too heavy for our trellis!

Hi to Judy, Josie & Deb2,

Take care,

Happy Memorial Day everyone,

Saturday I got a short outdoor bike ride in. Yesterday I did part of Turbo Barre and Ab Circuits-No Equipment Abs. DH has been painting the garage and I've been cleaning the condo, and doing laundry..

Lynda-I am so sorry about your FIL :( I know how difficult this is for all of you. I'm keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. I hope he is better today.

Deb-The wisteria sounds so pretty!

Valerie-I'm glad you are feeling better.

Dawn-I'm sorry about your slump. I hope you are feeling better this week. I agree with Deb, you might need a rest day or even a week off of hard workouts. I've had a tendency to over train and have recently learned the value of scheduling rest or easy days. I like to do something like Cathe Stretch Max or a segment of Core Max on easy days. I'm also trying not to do hard workouts more than 3-4 days a week.

Hi to Lori, Josie, and Deb2!

Judy

Deb good idea on trying something unrelated to clematis. I had a clematis spot ... for no reason they always died. it was only a few feet from a spot where I had a beautiful one that had to be moved with a remodel. there's a disease they get...forget what it is. waste of time to keep putting them there.
out here... remember we have much milder winters here.. wisteria grows to epic proportions.... beautiful but they get so heavy they can tear off rain gutters and house siding. obviously not in the first few years but around here a little trellis would be insufficient after the first few years but your climate zone might be entirely different.

we have a climbing hydrangea that is nice but I don't know how hardy they are. I got a start from a neighbor so never got the exact name and didn't look it up.
Congrats to your niece on finishing.
Sometimes we all get so focused on doing workouts it's easy to forget rest days are important. or just doing something unrelated to the usual workout. nothing wrong with a walk or a ride or an heavy duty garden day. I don't want workouts to feel like "work"..I want to look forward to them at least most of the time.

Having some folks over for lunch today so I need to get busy.

Hi Deb, Valerie, Josie, Lori, Judy, Dawn, and Deb2--

This morning I did both low impact hiit workouts, premix 2 on the first workout (50:08).

Thanks for all your good wishes on FIL. He seems to be doing better. He is on so many different medications, and the doctor here is trying to adjust dosages. He says that given how his blood pressure fluctuates, it's not a good idea to give him too much of this one medication (sodium??) to lower it when his body is accustomed to running on a higher speed. He may also need to be put on oxygen, which seemed to revive him immediately when the ambulance arrived. I don't know. I feel for MIL who wants to care for him but also finds it very stressful. I think she may have finally had a good night's sleep last night. DH had an endless train of customers coming up to the farm yesterday to pick up their chickens. Then we went to see FIL and found him much better.

Dawn, yes, my spelling of Lynda plus my very hard-to-spell last name has been both a blessing and a curse. At Rancho La Puerta (a spa I went to in January), there was another Linda, and she had a theory that all Linda/Lyndas were born between 1940 and 1959, and then the name went out of style. I have to admit that I go through spells where I just don't want to exercise, but I know that even if I put in a half-hearted effort some days, I still feel better.

Lori, I watched GOT with my DS last night and we are amazed at how many plot threads are going at once. Looks like Cersei is headed for her walk of shame. DS also told me that there is some internet chatter about what a grammarian Stannis is. I noticed it once, when he corrected Davos, who said, "one less finger to worry about," and Stannis corrected him, "no, one FEWER fingers to worry about." Apparently he did something similar with Jon Snow.

Deb, we love our wisteria because the blooms are so aromatic, but Valerie is right--you may have to keep it in check with severe pruning. It loves to spread.

Hi to Valerie, Judy, Josie, and Deb2!

Good morning,

Yesterday was nice, we did some yard work, (didn't get a chance to get the Wisteria in yet), went out for Mexican for lunch/dinner, then over to my cousins for coffee. My uncle from Florida and his son and DIL from California were there. Good to see them.

Judy, good workout, is it easy to do just part of Turbo Barre? I wish she had shorter premixes.

Valerie, hope your lunch went well, funny, we also moved a plant when we expanded our garage...it was a free standing Wisteria, it took a few years for it to bloom, and it was beautiful. We thought we could move it, but it died. I was so sad. I know we will need a better trellis, and we need to keep it trimmed. It is up against the garage and it will end up tearing down gutters, and our awning if we are not careful. I would love a climbing hydrangea, but this is a full sun spot so it would not work there.

Lynda, glad your FIL is better, is he home now?

Hi Josie, Deb2, Dawn, & Lori,

Not sure what is up today, probably some yard work if it doesn't rain, and house stuff. Need to catch up after that weekend!

Take care,

Hi everyone!

This morning I did ba, rear delts, bis (52:28).

I think my FIL will be discharged today. Just crossing my fingers that everything is stabilized and he is on the mend.

Deb, I think I have told you this before, but TB is really easy to do in parts. If you stop immediately before the floor work and skip the weight work, you would probably have a 45 min. workout.

Hot and humid for the next several days. I just wish we could get some rain.

No workout yesterday unless you call cleaning the house and making lunch for guests not a workout. whew!! went well. they stayed all day, didn't leave until almost 7. but we had a fun time and it flew by. could not believe it got so late...I was thinking I might need to order pizza for a second feeding!

we're going on a short trip, leaving tomorrow am. will be back either late Thursday or mid day Friday.

Deb, some plants do not tolerate being moved. others, just yank them out, prune them, stick in new spot and they take off. hard to tell what your outcome will be until you do it. we've had plenty of both. Not sure what a free standing wisteria is. I've only seen the climbing ones with the lavender flowers. they love it here but need to be kept in check. my climbing hydrangea is in a sunny spot and is a pretty assertive plant. I don't think it loses it's leaves in winter. our climates are so different I'm afraid to make recommendations.
plan on a workout today. might spin again or else treadmill/elliptical if there's anything watchable on TV.

Good morning,

I have a Dr. appointment today, recheck on cholesterol......it's not good. It is up since the last time, and he is going to want me to start on meds. I don't want to take them. We had an agreement that I would lose 10 pounds for this check up, and I didn't do it. I am down 6 lbs from the office weigh in, but that didn't seem to do anything, if anything, it's way worse than it was 6 months ago.

Lynda, hope all goes well with your FIL. Did they decide he needs to stay on oxygen? That is a big lifestyle change and it is hard for someone that has been mobile etc. I do remember now that you explained that it is easy to shorten TB. I will keep that in mind. I do want to try it out.

Valerie, Have a great trip! I would love a climbing hydrangea, but will have to wait and see how the wisteria goes. It is so pretty, large grape-like bunches of purple flowers.

Hi to Josie, Judy, Deb2, Dawn, & Lori,

Take care,

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did KCM's Cardio Quick Fix, both workouts (44:39).

Deb, they decided he didn't need the oxygen. He is on a variety of drugs and MIL is playing nurse, but not with any confidence. He is not scheduled to see his regular doctor until June 1, and maybe then there will be some kind of plan for outside support. MIL just cannot do it all. She has problems with taking his blood pressure, remembering his schedule of meds, etc. and just general worrying. What is your cholesterol level and the balance of HDL and LDL? My cholesterol is a little high at 225, but my doctor says the balance is very favorable. He has never even remotely suggested taking meds.

Have a fun trip, Valerie! I will have to look up hydrangea.

Hot and humid here. Still no rain. I wonder how Cathy (drover) is doing in Texas with all that flooding. If you are reading this, let us know, Cathy.

Good evening ladies!

Tonight was my first workout since Sunday! Yikes! Did Cathe Live Metabolic Conditioning and it felt great. All the driving I did on Monday completely exhausted me. From the Cape to NB to Boston to home. Came home, gave my DH a kiss, gave my doggies tons of kisses as they were so happy to see me!!! If my DH was jumping all around he would have got more kisses too! :). Unpacked then went to bed. Yesterday my DH was working late so after feeding the doggies layed on the couch and that was it. I woke up at 9pm then went to bed.

Lynda..very hot and humid is right. Actually put the air on last couple of nights to sleep. Our lawn is in rough shape. Glad your FIL is home. I can see how it must be a challenge for your MIL to keep up. I agree with all the plots on GOT.

Deb...my cholesterol is high but not out of control. My Doctor wanted me to start taking meds but I am trying to see what happens after all this clean eating. I need to go for lab work soon but I missed placed my paper work!

Valerie...I would say that is a workout!! Have a great trip!

Have a good night all!

Good morning,
It's supposed to be a beautiful day today, high of 69 and sunny. We got some much needed rain last night, made it nice not to have to water anything.

The Dr. is giving me a "pass" on the cholesterol meds for now....I told him I would lose more weight and we will see if that helps. I really need to focus on it this time.

Lynda, that is good news on your FIL not needing the oxygen. Can your MIL get someone (Visiting Nurses) to stop in once a day to check things out? My cholesterol is really high ( 320) but the HDL is "through the roof" as my DR says, so that is the only reason he is letting me try to get it down by diet etc. All other numbers are good too.

Drover, yes, please drop a note and let us know if all is ok.

Lori, LOL about your DH not getting as many kisses because he doesn't show the same "enthusiasm" as the dogs. You were smart to get the rest, you really must have needed it.

Hi to Josie, Judy, Dawn, Deb2 and the travelling Valerie,

Take care,

Hi Ladies,

Sorry for not posting much lately, I have been busy packing for ALC. I ran on Tuesday and worked out with Karina, no workout on Wednesday today I ran 3 miles and will workout wit Karina later on. I felt stronger and my BF and I actually improved on our time.

I will not be posting much starting tomorrow, but I will send you ladies some pictures when I'm on the road.

Garance, glad that your FIL is back home. MIL will definitely need some help.

Lori, sounds like you had a great time. I know that I'm going to spend a couple of days on the couch when I get back from ALC ;). We will be waking up at 4:00 every morning to start our day.

Deb, my cholesterol is 240, but my HDL is also very good so my Dr never worries about it. Mine is also hereditary, both my parents have high cholesterol.

Hi to Valerie, Judy, Deb2 and Dawn!

Josie

Hi all--

This morning I did Flex Train (56:36).

Deb, that is high, but does heart disease run in your family? That might be more cause for alarm than just the cholesterol level. I hope losing weight will help. Yes, I'm sure MIL will be getting some help soon. So many issues now--their home in Florida, remodeling in their condo to make it more elder-friendly.

Lori, that is a lot of driving, and I don't blame you a bit for not working out. Funny about your poor DH not jumping around enough for the requisite number of kisses. DH says Max and I just have a different relationship than he does with Max. He is the master who expects work and obedience and I just expect adoration as my due. Makes sense to me!

Yes, Josie, post some pictures when you get started. You are part of the work crew this time, right?

Hi to everyone else out there!
