Good morning,

I have today off, will be meeting my friend for breakfast.

Valerie, smart to take off one day a week...we have some pretty old bikes that we had not ridden in years...the bike shop we bought our new bikes from didn't want them. I agree with you about putting them up for sale in the newspaper etc. I don't want people coming to my house and going through all that. So that are still hanging from the rafters in the garage.

Garance, how was dinner?

Judy, that was a good move, to stick with someone doing your pace and with experience too...

More coffee needed...still tired from that long drive yesterday.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Pure Spice (57 min.).

Lori, I think this is the third time doing STS for me, although the second time, if I remember correctly, was interrupted by a broken elbow. Nope, never did the one rep max. I do have 25 lbs. and 30 lbs. dumbbells and a barbell that goes up to 80 lbs. I also have a weighted vest and gloves. I think what surprised me most the last time I did STS was meso 3 and how confident I felt with those heavier dumbbells and barbell. Haven't used the 30 lbs. for quite awhile. This time around, too, I did a lot of the pushups on my toes, which I couldn't do the last time, and I'm managing better on the chin-ups.

Deb, it's cold here too, and I was actually considering getting some annuals to plant because last week felt like summer had definitely arrived. Maybe I will get some pansies, though. Our lilacs are just starting and I love the fragrance. We went to a place in Bennington called the Rattlesnake Café and they make really good Mexican food. I had a shrimp quesadilla--ate half, brought the rest home. I'm making wild mushroom quesadillas with a warm black bean and corn salsa tomorrow night, so I will probably eat the rest of my dinner with that.

No, I never watched Boss, Valerie, but maybe I will now on your recommendation. If you like political narratives, you should watch Scandal. It's really good. Can't wait for the finale this Thursday.

Good afternoon!

No run this morning. Chester was such a pain last night so I needed to sleep in a bit. I am on my own ay lunch too so I am thinking about doing Cardio Core Circuit since it is on my Ipad. Thank goodness we have a shower here! Tonight will be STS Disc 16 Chest shoulders and tris.

My 35lbs dumbbells are for squats, deadlifts etc. I am far from strong enough to be doing any upper body work with these! My legs are very strong though and I will enjoy the challenge.

Garance..can't imagine breaking my elbow! Ouch!

Very cold here too...will need to be taking in all my hanging plants. Will be 35 degress tonight. What the heck?

Have a great day!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Garance,

It was 28 degrees when I got up this morning. The good news is it's supposed to get to 80 by Wednesday. What a crazy Spring!

After work my DH and I went to look at new bikes. He needs one more than I do, since he's been riding my bikes and they are too small for him. We may end up getting him a new one this year, and then I'll get one next year. When we got married, 6 years ago, he wasn't into biking that much and I already had 3 bikes so he just started riding mine. Now as he has gotten into it more, he can really tell that he needs a bigger frame. I'm hoping he finds one by this weekend so we can do some more mountain biking

Tonight I did X-train legs and the rear deltoid workout that comes on that DVD. Tomorrow morning will be a longer indoor cycling workout, I'm hoping to get in 2 hours or so.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Judy

Good morning all,

No workout today. Yesterday I met my friend for breakfast and we stayed for 5 hours! Lucky we have a restaurant that doesn't mind us sitting there drinking coffee for that long.

Garance, I like the name of that restaurant, and of course love Mexican food. What exactly are "wild" mushrooms? Our lilac tree/bush? is blooming too. Love them. It was a tiny cutting that we got from a nursery lady that was experimenting to see if she could make more from a beatiful varigated leaf one that she has. It took 3 years for it to get blossoms. This is the second year it has actual flowers.

Lori, what was up with Chester? did he get up in the middle of the night?

Judy, cold here too, it's 36 degrees now, it was supposed to freeze overnight, so I brought in the couple of plants that we got for the yard. You have both types of bikes, mountain and road? Is it the mountain bike your dDH is going to buy?

Hi to Josie & Valerie,

Back to work today for me...take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did STS disk 14 for legs (48 min.), and my legs feel rubbery.

Deb, the recipe calls for Portobello and Shiitake mushrooms--another Rachel Ray recipe. We have the usual lilac bushes and an Oriental lilac that is really fragrant. Went below freezing last night. Ugh!

Lori, I broke my elbow breaking a fall. I had to have the radius replaced. I tripped on a sidewalk while star-gazing. Duh! Now DH tells me to stop walking when I want to look up.

Josie, are you keeping up with Game of Thrones? I watched Sunday's episode last night. Soooo good--I love the Jaime-Brienne story.

Hi Ladies,

Had a nice Mother’s day, but I woke up to shingles :( the symptoms started last Friday and got worst over the weekend? I have them from my hipbone to almost my butt crack ;) Thank God the elastic on my underwear does not rub any of the rash. The rash is only about 1 inch by 2 inches long and 3 other little bumps, but they are very painful. See what the witch did to me! It is all the stress here at work.

I was told to take it easy on the workouts, but I did not feel like working out at all. I had my physical scheduled for yesterday, which was perfect timing. I go my meds and ointment to deal with for the next 7-10 days. Deb, how did you handle it when you had them?

Judy, congratulation on your race that is one kind of racing that I will not be doing in the future. Too scary for me!

Deb, congratulation for the K’s.

Lori, my son gave me 2 jerseys for my biking and some arm warmers. Our kids are proud of their mothers the jocks ;)

Valerie, I’m glad that you finally found the right adjustment for your sear. It makes all the difference in the world.

Josie

Hi all,

Josie, sorry about your outbreak of shingles:confused: ...and yes, it's probably the *itch that you can thank for them.....however, I have never had them, not sure if you meant someone else here?

Sorry Deb, I thought it was you. She made me go to the Dr. and get a note saying that I was not contagious, and my Dr. laughed and gave me the rest of the week due to stress ;)

Hi Josie--

I think Valerie and Joan have had bouts with shingles if I remember correctly. I hope it's not too painful and it subsides quickly. I decided to get a shingles shot a couple years ago, so I'm hoping never to have this problem. I think you may be contagious around people who have never had the chicken pox or had the shot to prevent chicken pox. Stress really does play a role in making it worse.

Yes, I had shingles a long time ago, when I was maybe 25? I thought I'd backed into poison ivy on a bike ride the day before. No particular reason for it, just decided to show up to annoy me.
It was painful and before the days of anti viral meds, which can shorten the duration. That was the same spot I had them just below my waist on my left side from spine to hip bone. it hurt even where there was no visible rash. it was back in the days of panty hose and no way could I look at getting those on! I ended up off work for a week or 10 days. didn't feel bad, just couldn't wear any clothing over the rash. I got the shingles vaccine a while ago, but I think it's 60 and over for it. the vaccine lessens the intensity or prevents it entirely. just because you've had it doesn't mean it could not return again in the future. chicken pox... the gift that keeps on giving.... so cute that your kids support your "jock" status!

Lynda, the big let down with Boss is that after 2 seasons it was not renewed, so there are no conclusions to anything, it's all totally up in the air, as series usually are at the end of a season to hook you back in for next season. there's definitely some gratuitous sex and violence, and just about everyone is a sleazebag, but they're believable, manipulative sleazebags, everyone out for themselves and what they can get. I don't know if Illinois politics ( Chicago particularly) are really like this but wow. the senior mayor Daley must have inspired this.
We watched one season of Scandal but we didn't care much for it. it was okay, but didn't push the next season to the top of the queue.

Judy... be careful with DH shopping for mt bikes.... there is some amazing stuff out there and very tempting! on the other hand, quality has gone way up so you can get a lot of bike for not a huge amount of money.

Hi all!

Josie so sorry to hear about your shingles and hoping you feel better soon. I did not know there was a vaccine for shingles. I had chicken pox really really bad as a Toddler. I was born biting my nails and my mom told me I had them all in my mouth and up my nose. Apparently when I was a toddler I was a nose picker too! Glad this didn't stick like the nail biting!!! Lol! I mention this because I have always wondered if the severity of the pox increased chances of shingles.

Garance....I am loving Game of Thrones. I just started reading book 4 and have watched all the episodes but this last one. I love reading the book then seeing it come to life with the series.

I know what you mean about rubbery legs too with STS. Tonight I did disc 16. Ch,sh and tris. Wow is all I can say. My arms are rubber! Today at lunch I did hardstikes warmup which is pretty fast in my opinion then did the HIIT portion of Intensity. About a 30 min workout.

Deb...chester is not allowed to sleep in our room because he is so disruptive. Needless to say last night he was not happy with this!

Judy...great that your DH is enjoying biking! I bet he will love it even more once he has a bike better fitted for him.

Have a great night!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Garance,

This morning I did 90 minutes on the spin bike, with 60 minutes hard and 30 minutes recovery. I'm planning on doing a core workout before bed.

Last night I ordered a pair of weighted gloves. Hoping they will help with hand and forearm strength.

Deb-It finally warmed up here this afternoon, now it's in the 70's. I used to have a road bike but now I only have mountain bikes, and a spinning bike. I have put way more mileage on the spinning bike in the past few years than the outdoor bikes. I'm trying to get back to outside riding more this year. DH wants a mountain bike. He liked the Gary Fisher that he looked at last night, but wants to shop around some more.

Valerie, you are right about tempting bikes out there! It's amazing how many more features there are now. I just want to make sure he gets a good bike fit and is more comfortable so he will want to ride more.

Josie-I'm so sorry about your shingles. Also sorry about you having to deal with work stress. I've been in that situation before and it can make you sick :( I hope you feel better soon and that the source of your work stress goes away or leaves you alone.

Have a good night!

Judy

Good morning,

Another day of no workout...I am not into it for some reason, last week I had an excuse, not this week though. I need another kick in the butt to get me motivated.

Garance, I'm not sure if we went below freezing the night before last, but it was sure cold enough. I brought in the hanging basket pots that I have not planted yet, and some mums that are still in the 6-pack. They are ok to go out again now.

Josie, off all week? Not nice if you have to have shingles, but good to avoid the stress.

Hi to Judy, Lori, & Valerie..

Work, and at least no class tonight, but a dog club meeting, which DH will go to, and wake me up when he gets home to chatter about all the things that bugged him at the meeting..

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Jazzercise Burlesque (45 min.).

Lori, I don't know if you know this, but George R.R. Martin is notoriously slow in producing his series, so there will be a very long wait before book 6 comes along. In addition to feeling rubbery, my legs were really sore this morning before I got going on Jazzercise.

Still cold here, Deb. Isn't there one workout that really fires you up? I really like the warm up music on Cardio Leg Blast and I always seem to perk up when I hear it. Probably some version of a popular song I've never heard or cannot remember. What are you using for an eye cream these days? I am due for a new bottle, tube, or jar with some wrinkle magic in it.

Valerie, I don't think I will try Boss, then. It sounds too frustrating.

Are you retired, Judy? You never mention work, so I wondered.

Hope you are getting better, Josie.

Good afternoon!

This morning I was up early and like you Deb just wasn't feeling it. So I decided perhaps I would do one of the Leslie Sanson Walks. Figured it was easy and at least it the very least would get me moving. Well I put on my 10lb weight vest (thanks garance for the idea) used 1lb ankle weights and 2lb hand weights then next thing you know I was adding some high impact moves and it ended up being a decent workout for first thing in the morning. Ended up doing 3 miles. Sometimes this is exactly all that is needed.

Tonight I am planning on heavy bag. Tomorrow will be legs. I am off a day with my STS.

Deb...very cold here too. I also took in all my plants.

Judy..You will like using weighted gloves. I use mine frequently.

Garance...guess I need to start reading very slowly then!

Have a great night!

Hi Ladies,

I took a rest day today but will be back at it tomorrow. I think my allergies were getting to me, I just had a headache all day and didn't feel like doing much exercise.

Garance-I did retire from my full time career when I moved to Michigan, in 2007. Now I have a part time job in a local health food-vitamin store. I usually work 20 hours a week. My work hours are noon to 4 so I use the mornings to run errands and workout.

Lori-sounds like you had a good workout! I might have to try the weighted vest too.

Valerie-DH bought a bike tonight. He got a Trek-(Gary Fisher) Marlin, with 29 inch wheels. The frame is 17.5 inches. I tried riding it and it's just a little too big for me. We'll probably go riding this weekend so he can break it in.

Josie-I hope you feel better.

Goodnight!

Judy

Good morning,

I got up at 4:15 to do some workout or other, stood in the kitchen after letting the dogs out, and debated on just hitting the button on the coffee maker...workout? coffee? workout? coffee? .....the coffee won. I am so not feeling it these days.

Garance, no, nothing gets me enthused enough to get downstairs and JUST DO IT as the saying goes. Maybe if I start fresh on Sunday...

Lori, good job pushing through the inertia. :) I really like the weigted gloves too. Gives you a one pound increase, which with some exercises, that is all you can do.

Judy, great that your DH got the new bike! Are there a lot of mountain bike type trails where you live or do you have to travel with the bikes to get to one?

Hi to Valerie, & Josie,

Take care,

Good Morning,

Deb-I'm having one of those days too. I need to workout this morning but I just can't get into it. It's really nice out so maybe I will go for a walk and try to run a little too.

We do have several mountain bike trails that are pretty close. Michigan has a system of Metro and State Parks that are great places to ride. The one we have been going to the most, Island Lake, is about a 30 minute drive. The trails in the Metro/State Parks are a mix of off road and pavement so we can mix the riding up a little. One of the parks, Kensington, has an 8 mile paved path around a lake that is really nice. It is also connected to the Island Lake trail so we could do both paths.

The traffic is so bad in this area that I rarely ride anywhere from home. That's why I got a spinning bike when I moved here. When I lived in Iowa, almost all of my riding was outdoors and I only took spinning classes in the winter. Now it's kind of the other way around. Most of my cycling is indoors and I only ride outside on weekends or vacation days when DH and I take the bikes to a trail.

Judy

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did STS disk 15 for Back and Bis (54 min.).

Deb, no recs for an eye cream? I've been using Philosophy and before that Synake, What's the next miracle in a tube, jar, bottle? Others are free to chime in on this too. Yeah, Sunday is always the opportunity for a fresh start.

I had a bone density test yesterday. I wonder if all of the weight work I do will show little or no decline. I was great the last time, but that was 5 years ago.

Judy, you would probably love biking around here. Very little traffic. We have only one stoplight in town. Lots of bike trails, too.

Lori, I did a lot of Leslie for awhile. You can get a decent workout with very little thinking. My problem is her voice--I refer to her as "cackle and shriek" and "walk walk walk." Max sometimes gets excited when she keeps repeating "walk."

How's it going, Josie?
