Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/9/2023

There will come a time in July or August when an 80 degree day will feel okay, but at this point in the year 80 is just too darn hot! Two more days of this and then a 70 day and Monday it's going to be a high of 40 with possible snow flurries. LOL No workout today as I shopped. It would take a pretty extreme situation for me to have someone pick out my produce. And I know that I would be over the top with my notes to the shopper with the details. Derek and Aliah went and saw the salamanders last night. He said they saw about 200 and he got some pics. Last year when they went to see them the salamanders were crawling over snow. This year they are unseasonably warm. Though like us that's not going to last.

Valerie great that you got in a mountain bike ride. Sounds like a tough ride. I hope the injections helps. Both my grandmothers canned, one more than the other. When we went through the house after my Dad's Mom passed away there was some canned stuff in the basement that was decades old. She was 96 and it had been quite awhile since she'd been able to do it. My grandparents had some interesting eating habits. My paternal grandfather had one bottle of coke every day. We used to joke that he got hooked on it when it still had cocaine in it, but he would have only been 6 and living in North Dakota so doubtful. LOL Of course, he was the same person who ate vaseline when sick, because that's apparently how they originally used it. Yuck

Diane Sue nice job with the 40 Minute Fat Burning Kickboxing and Dance, upper body and mobility workouts.

Carolyn nice job with the Gym Style Chest and Triceps timesaver.

Monday & Tuesday I worked longer shifts at HD and didn’t get any other exercise in. Yesterday I did a 45 minute Peloton ride and today I did a 30 minute Peloton ride and 30 minutes of walking outside. It was so nice! Like Cathy said, it was around 80 here, unseasonably warm but it felt so good after months of winter. We will probably be back to normal Michigan spring weather this weekend and next week.

Cathy-Great job with Upper Body Bliss and Booty Burn. It was pretty hot today but I was ok with that, lol! Of course, 60-70 would be been great too. I tend to feel better and more energetic in the summer. Michigan summers are beautiful but a little too short for me.

Carolyn-Great job with Step, Jump, and Pump, step only premix, Gym Style Back, Shoulders, and Biceps timesaver, Cardio Quick Fix, workout two and Gym Style Chest and Triceps timesaver. That’s a nice balance of strength and cardio. I’m with you on being obsessive about putting food in the refrigerator. I’m paranoid about leaving things out too long.

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Total Body Step and Strength, Perfect 30 timesaver mobility stretch, CDorner 40 Minute Fat Burning Kickboxing and Dance, Ice Chiseled Upper Body Timesaver #3 and the mobility flow. I didn’t work Easter but I felt bad that HD was open. There were several other stores around here that closed for the holiday.

Valerie-Great job with the spin, elliptical, therapy work, tricep/ bicep work, xtrain abs and the mountain bike ride. I hope the injection works well for you.

Today I did CDorner Toned Legs and Round Booty 50 minutes, 127 calories, heart rate 95/121. I forgot to check on the steps today. I then did the last half of CDorner Flow Stretch and some of her Foam Roller workout that she put up, 40 minutes, 51 calories. She has put this foam roller workout up before. I use the upper rolling part a lot as it really helps the upper mid back. I did some of the lower, but my shoulders wrists do not hold up that long having to hold myself up on my hands.

Carolyn, nice job on Gym Style Chest and Triceps Timesaver. I kind of miss the older basic weight liftig work. Gym Style was always one of my favorites for a long time.

Valerie, that does make sense on the ways that they canned things. I think a lot of young people have no idea what good food is with all of the prepackaged stuff and changes in ingredients to make them last. I started getting grocery delivery when I was doing the virtual school with the grandchildren. At first before they started that my husband and I went shopping at 3am when he was off work. I just could not possibly get up and do school after shopping like that. It just eventually took the dread out of going to the store and having to worry about allergies, and it made it much easier on me not having to put heavy things in and out of the shopping cart when the shoulder was hurting and then surgery. If I could get things done around home and get up earlier I would probably go to the store myself part of the time. There is not a lot of shopping options close at the moment other than Walmart and they are busy unless I go early. I end up parking at the back of the lot. Whole Foods does well with their produce choices and things are always packed carefully and well. They label the bags with eggs, frozen, etc.. I am sure with all of the building they are doing that eventually some new stores will go up. Plus they are doing road work buy Walmart which makes easy in and out not good. I miss being right by Sprouts like I was before. When we go to Braums to get something to eat I sometimes pick up some fruits and vegetables there.

Cathy, I do not remember any of my grandparents drinking coke. My Dad would drink one once in awhile, but I think it was mostly if someone else brought it into his house. It has been in the 70's the last few days. I took the electric blanket off of the bed so it will probably cool off.

Judy, I am sure you got plenty of exercise in at work. Nice work getting in a Peloton ride and a walk. I am enjoying the nice weather right now. We will probably go back to Lowes this weekend to get the mulch and stuff we need since my husband will be off.

This morning I did Rev’d Up Rumble, a timesaver premix. That was 36 minutes and 254 calories burned. My average heart rate was 132 and maximum heart rate was 170.

Valerie, I hope that the injection works as it should. I agree with the way people preserved food in the past. Salt, sugar, and acid served that purpose. It did change the flavor of the fruits and vegetables.

Cathy, Michigan is having very hot weather! I didn’t get to the grocery store yesterday because of the rainy weather here. I just went to Ingles to get a few things this morning in between the rounds of heavy rain. Ingles isn’t one of my regular stores, but it’s close by and easy to get in and out of the parking lot.

Judy, you’ve had a busy week. Great job with the Peloton rides.

Diane Sue, nice job with CDorner Toned Legs and Round Booty, Flow stretch, and foam roller. I have to chuckle when I read the names of some of CDorner’s workouts.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

we did a road ride this morning. 15 miles. I didn't do anything yesterday except for 3 easy stretches. not noticing much change in my back. the shot itself was less intense than the first, focused right in the problem spot. not noticing a lot. could not sleep last night. it may take a while to work and it may not change anything. I have a backache (not pain) but it would be nice not to have the constant ache.

more weirdness from my sister. she cancelled her colonoscopy/endoscopy. rescheduled now for may25. s she wants to be hospitalized for the procedure. Yeah, right.... pretty unlikely! if not, she plans on cancelling the whole thing. Sigh... more headaches. she was supposed to see primary care next week. they cancelled . her children have completely walked away, wont even take phone calls about her. a cousin and myself will see what we can do toward getting her into senior living, what's available and affordable. her dump of a house will not sell for much. I dont know how it works WI, but it wont pass code. no idea how that is handled.

I think most of us forget how easy we have it now with appliances and fresh food from all over the world everywhere. I remember ancient home canned food in our basement. we had a refrigerator but the freezer was tiny, half filled with ice cube trays. we never had soda except for 7 up which was given to us when we were sick, they added MORE sugar to take down the carbonation. I remember lots of diet cola type soda from my teens but soda was not a regular beverage.

stores around here used to be open 24/7 but now most close for a few hours at night like 12 to 6 am. . morning is usually not very busy.

we have a nice few days of weather but temps are normal, not unseasonably hot like the midwest. hope that goes away soon so the salamanders don't fry their feet.

This morning I did Xtrain Bi's, Tri's and shoulders. For a lot of it I had to drop down a weight from what it said Cathe was using, but oddly for the single arm lat raise and single arm rear delt fly, I used 10's to her 8's. That like NEVER happens. Then I went to my parents. So much constructions between here and there. I told them two things can both be right. The roads really need fixing and it's a real PITA. And most of the projects go well into fall. Saw an eagle today. Went out to get the mail and when I looked north it flew low across the road about 1/4 of a mile away. I've seen one in that area before. Keep telling them to come to my backyard but they don't listen. LOL

Judy great job with the Peloton rides and walk. My parents walk every day at Lowe's, but Easter they ended up going to Menard's because Lowe's was closed. I don't care for really hot weather meaning once it approaches 80 it's too hot. I much prefer spring and fall to most of summer.

Diane Sue nice job with the Toned Legs and Round Booty, stretch and foam roller.

Carolyn great job with Rev’d Up Rumble. After all the crazy rain we had, now there are fire warnings every day. I follow the straits area scanner, which covers area both north and south of the Mackinac Bridge and there have been quite a few fires up there the last couple days.

Valerie great that you got in a ride this morning. I really hope the injection starts to help soon. My parents rarely ever bought pop (yes that's what we call it here:) so in general we only got it away from home. My Dad now always has some on hand and drinks one every day. We always had pitchers of ice tea and kool aid. Sometimes lemonade. I like ice tea and it's no wonder I had trouble sleeping back then. I was close to 30 before I realized how much caffeine affected me.

Low energy and wasn't feeling it this morning. Though I already went out and walked twice. I did the Timesaver Mobility Stretch premix. Out last really warm sunny day. Tomorrow is cooler with possible storms, so enjoying it while it lasts. Three weeks till Derek's home for the summer. This year went so fast.

Today is a rest day for me. The weather is absolutely beautiful after the dreary days that we have had recently. I went to the farmer’s market and found nice vegetables and strawberries. They are so much better than the strawberries in the grocery store.

Cathy, nice job with XTrain Bis, Tris and Shoulders. I know what you mean about not feeling it today. Some days are like that and you need to listen to your body.

Waving hello to all. Have a wonderful afternoon.

Today I started with Raw Step and Toning and did the first round of all 8 moves, 16 minutes, 60 calories, heart rate 105/144, 1,211 steps. I stopped after one round of moves as it was not too friendly with my joints. I think I could lower the step and modify the moves. Music is good. I then did CDorner Total Body Cardio Tabata Style, 56 minutes, heart rate 110/140,209 calories, 1,404 steps and finished with Yoga with Adriane yoga for neck shoulders and back quickie, 10 minutes, 15 calories. Total time was 82 minutes, 284 calories, 2,615 steps.

I found a lot of yoga videos that look good when reading Chris Kressor's latest email (the author of Paleo Cure) It was a good relaxing stretch for the area. I saw there is a lot like text neck and shorts that could be put together. It is so windy. I put out some mulch and topsoil in back. I will do the rest maybe Monday as we are going to be at my sons for family Easter and birthday gathering tomorrow.

Here is yesterday's workout. I think I posted in the wee hours early yesterday before I had done the workout.
I did CDorner Hiit Step, 31 minutes, heart rate 140/163,177 calories, 2,701 steps. This one is faster paced and basic moves without choreography. I then did CDorner Disco Step Class 30 minutes, heartrate 134/165, 2,377 steps. The music was familiar songs like Love Shack and Xanadu which she cut short because timing was not fast enough. I added CDorner Abs with a ball, 18 minutes, 54 calories, heart rate 96/116. I have done this one before and there was not a lot of crunches and things that hurt my neck. I am hoping to do something total body tomorrow. Total time was 79 minutes, 398 calories, heart rate 5,078 steps.
