Good morning,

Yesterday was a rest day for me. I did to an agility class so not a total rest. Almost made 10,000 steps....was about 200 shy.

Lori, that's great that Gigi enjoyed daycare. How many days a week will you be taking her? I have a few pair of those socks with sticky dots, love them!

Valerie, that surgery does not sound pleasant. I cringe when I think of what is done and the recovery involved with bunion surgery.

Diane Sue, that shop sounds lovely. I know what you mean about variety versus steps. I used to do 3 treadmill workouts a week, now I like the Live cardio, or the low impact ones on Cathe's DVD's more.

Hi to Judy,

Take care,

Deb it is a “work around” for me. I can wear regular shoes and boots if I look for a wider toe box. Some styles and brands don’t work but that’s true for almost everyone. The surgery means a long time in a boot on crutches. So far not a good plan for me . it’s kinda homely but functions ok.
I did a 40 min spin and high reps core and push ups yesterday. I used to watch tv shows on the treadmill and elliptical. Since we dropped cable I put in a disc instead. I can’t watch anything complicated and used to be happy with cooking shows or talk shows.

Deb, nicevwork on the steps. I am surprised at times when I get my 10000 steps and it just entailed a busy day and notba lotvfrom a workout.

Valerie, I understand you not looking forward to thesurgery and rcovery.

Today is my rest day. Deb, great job with your steps. They can add up quickly when you are active. Valerie, good that you were able to get in a spin workout.

There is a farm across the street from our neighborhood where the owner boards horses. They would sometimes hold small rodeos on the property. Wednesday night there was a fire in the stable that spread very quickly and they lost 24 horses. It was so sad. The stable sits quite a distance from the road and I didn’t realize what had happened until Thursday evening. I saw a variety of official vehicles and a fire truck when I drove by there Thursday morning. I really feel for the owners.

I hope everyone is having a good day.

Good afternoon ladies,

Thank you all for your kind words. I had her for so long it was hard to say goodbye. She pretty much was always in my arms even when I was doing housework and vacuuming. I am glad she was still in my arms at the end. I feel so out of place to not be holding her. This will take some time getting used to.

No workout yesterday. Today I did do a Lekfit bounce that had intervals of upper and lower with bands. I did not feel like working out but figured bounce always makes me feel better. I then took GiGi for our 2.5 mile walk. Having her so energetic and so full of life is making this a little easier for me and Bob.

Valerie...that surgey sounds terrible! Hoping it sounds worse than it is and the recovery is quick. I have a little bunion on my right foot. I bought Yoga Toes and they help me a lot. Nice workout.

Deb...she loved daycare. Right now we signed her up for every Friday. We were not sure if she would like it. Now knowing she loves it we are going to add in another day. Now that the weather is nicer I am able to walk her so thinking between our walks and daycare she will get plenty of exercise. In the summer months we will play by ear with the weather temp. If there is a heat wave we will bring her for the entire week. Would rather have her there then in the house. They have a stone pool for the dogs and they have sprinklers up. She will be in heaven!!

Carolyn...that is so very sad about the horses. I can’t imagine what the owners are feeling.

Diane Sue...I am really looking forward to using my heavy bag. I loved using. I pretty much do all of Cathe’s kickboxing workouts using it. Better than shadow boxing!

Hi to Judy!

There was a dreadful accident at the main intersection before our church this morning. I know someone had to have lost their life in it. The one care had obviously rolled and was crushed from hard impact on one side. The pickup that obviously hit had the front mashed clear up almost to the windshield. I am always careful when crossing at that light because the traffic flow is fast coming up the 4 lane expressway and since it is kind of coming from a country area, people are still moving quickly. That is the second accident recently that I have came upon there and had to maneuver through a gas station to go around the road block to head where I needed to go. Someone said at church that when they came by it earlier, they had a tarp over the car which my husband said whoever was in had to be dead. I wish people would be cautious when they go through intersections. You always have to allow for those couple of cars that will push through the light when it is red.

Carolyn, that is terrible about those horses. I am sure the owners are all sorrowful that had them boarded there.

Lori, still having Gertie around made the loss of Mudd a bit easier, as I had her wanting to be consoled and my heart went out to her. She missed Mudd for awhile. She is really a snugly doggy. You will always have wonderful memories. I never want to workout when I am hurting, but forcing it a bit often helps. So does the daycare make sure the dogs all have had immunizations and health checks? That sounds like a lot of fun for Gigi. I love my Heavy Bag. It takes up a lot of room, but there was no way I was willing to give it up when we moved here. I also like to use it when I am doing some of the kickboxing workouts. Gertie gets excited and gets in my way. I think she finds my aggression on the bag to be something that needs her attentions. Mudd, used to do the same thing except she would go after the bag and sometimes land on me and I had to send her out of the room. I often wondered if she thought it was a person, because she would growl at it and bark at it like it was an attacker or something.

Oh labnick, I am so very sorry. I don't usually post here, but I was reading and just had to reach out to you to
Tell you how sorry I am for your loss. My tears are flowing so hard at this moment, it's hard to type correctly.
I have an about 17 yr old doggie having some issues and I am so worried and scared......again I am so very
Sorry, remember the fun and wonderful times. Take care.........

Aqua girl...thank you so much for your post. I miss her so much. When I say she was my baby, I mean it. She was always in my arms and very content to be so. I used to joke how I did all my housework with 1 hand. Knowing I was blessed to have had her 18 years keeps me going. And you 17 years is awesome. Most fur mommies do not have that amount of time. Sending you love and hugs.

Labnick, have you ever read the letter from Annie? It is very sad....but very heartfelt...if you are interested, just
Google letter from Annie....it comes up under PetMD, I think.

Good morning.

Yesterday I did Fit Tower Advanced Total Body, 60 minutes, 286 calories. I really like this one, I will have to do it more often. I think its because there is more weight work, and less barre work.

Valerie, that surgery/recovery sounds a lot like bunion surgery. You may want to try one of the coaching MP3 workouts, like Cardio Coach or iTrain. They keep your mind occupied and provide a structure to a workout, whether it's the treadmill or elliptical etc.

Carolyn, that is so sad about that fire and the horses.

Lori, although never a replacement, having Gigi will be some help with missing Nilla. How do you use the Yoga toes? I have them as well. Bought them for bunion relief, but not sure what the best way to use them is. I tried keeping them on at night in bed, but that didn't work out. That daycare sounds great.

Diane Sue, that accident sounds horrible. Funny how the dogs reacted to your heavy bag workouts.

Hi to Judy,

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Saturday was a rest day and yesterday I did Jessica Smith Lower Body Circuit Walk and Total Body Timesaver.

Deb-Great job with the Fit Tower workout! Nice job with the 10,000 steps!

Lori-I'm so glad that you have Gigi. She will help, but I know it's still so hard. I'm thinking of you and Bob this week ((hugs)

Valerie-Good luck with your surgery. I hope you have a quick recovery.

Carolyn-That is very sad about the horses :(

Diane Sue-What a horrible accident :( I would love to have a heavy bag! I need to figure out how I can fit one in my gym. I don't think it would take up that much room.

Judy

whoa...judy I am NOT having that surgery anytime soon. a few years ago the toe was bothering me. I had it xrayed and evaluated, but it would not change the problem that the toe doesn't bend much, and no body replaces toe joints. they might put in a screw to keep it immobile. but then the irritation subsided. yoga irritated it, and since I don't do much yoga anymore, it settled down. those moves where you in a plank on your toes and roll your body forward and back made it hurt. grippy socks helped a little. Toe has a side bump so if I can't get shoes to fit, then I will need to do the bone shaving part. since there is no discomfort, I'm not in a hurry for this. Deb, since my toe is already "straight" I never tried to fix it. there is only a bump that rubs on some shoes, especially tapered or pointy ones.

so sad about the horses! I read once that horses think of their stable as a safe place, like dogs do with crates, and they often run back inside or don't leave even if that's where the fire is.

You have to wonder when there are car wrecks like that.... do they not see red lights or do they just think they can scream thru anyway? distracted or careless driving is a growing danger to everyone. I quit using my phone while driving long ago. my god... you see people putting on make up, watching screens, and carrying pets while driving. all illegal here but too many to stop and fine them all. I am cautious about being the first one thru an intersection after a light change because of how often it happens.

Finally a day without rain! DH and I will do a road ride this morning as soon as it warms up a little.

Lori I hope you get some comfort from having Gigi around. we miss our kitty but decided to hold off until at least mid summer to decide about another kitty. we will be traveling a lot the next few months. It messes up your life for a while. you keep 'seeing" your pet in all the usual places. it is still happening to me.

No workout yesterday.

This morning I did WS3 Cardio Interval Sculpt for 35 minutes and 199 calories burned. Average heart rate was 122 and maximum heart rate 156. After that I did WS3 15 Minute Total Body for additional 79 calories burned. My average heart rate with this one was 116 and maximum heart rate 137. Jessica gets a lot done in these workouts. I finished up with STS Extended Stretch for 15 minutes.

Whenever I see the word “sculpt” in a workout I wonder what it actually means. I interpret it to mean lighter weights and higher reps.

Deb, the FT Total Body is a great workout. It is my favorite from that series.

Diane Sue, that accident sounds terrible. Drivers seem more aggressive and less likely to yield the right of way these days in addition to being distracted.

Hello to Lori, Valerie, and Judy.

This morning I did Z Cut Power Cardio disc 2, workout #8, with the warm up, 31 minutes, (I had to stop for a few minutes and timer was going so this was closer to 25 minutes) 205 calories, met 6.0, 1,220 steps, heart rate average 123, max 154. I then did Cathe's Flex Train, 56 minutes, 302 calories, 4.9 met, heart rate average 125, max 179, 1993 steps. That must have been a spike on the heart rate or something. Total time was 97 minutes, calories burned 508.
I used Cathe's weights on Flex train. A couple of times I went a bit heavier till I remembered the high reps with the compound moves and I dropped back down.
Z Cut power cardio 3 rounds
3 point burpee/ high raked push up 4 sets of these for each round dispersed between the other moves
20 reps jump lunge switch
20 jump squats
20 reptiles (2 sets each round the second set after a later move I think the dragon lunge)
20 side jump lunges
20 dragon lunges (crossback lunge to knee up jump)

Deb, I think that the Total body Fit Tower workout is a really effective total body strength workout. Too much barre work and my low back and knees are not happy with me. You would think that it would be the opposite. I used to use itrain workouts for my treadmill workouts along with the Cardio Coach.

Judy, those heavy bags like Cathe uses and I see on a lot of workouts look like they could sit in a corner somewhere. My stand came with a 50# hanging bag and I replaced it with 100# which really helped since it would swing back at me and when Cathe would do the Sprawls and came back up it would come back and hit me if I wasn't far enough away. There is a place to tether it at the bottom and I put a bungee cord on it, but it turns and twists and pops out. They sell a weighted device to hang on the bottom, but since I got the heavier bag it has not been much of a problem. Anyway, mine is kind of a space hog with the speed bag on it and big frame.

Carolyn, I always think of sculpt or trim in workouts to mean light weight and bodyweight with somewhat of a high rep quicker pace to them.

The accident just made me think how we never know how long we have to make our lives count for something. Wondered where these people were headed Sunday morning.

This morning I did Barlates Mat Sculpt & Burn -Abs, Arms, Glutes and Mat Intervals Upper. Total time was 75 minutes. After that I did about 20 minutes of Rockout Knockout to get some cardio in.

Valerie- I misread a couple of posts. For some reason I thought you were having the surgery soon. Sorry about the mix up.

Diane Sue-The bag sounds nice! I would also want a heavier one.

Carolyn-I agree about Jessica getting a lot done in WS3. That is such a good and versatile series.

Judy, I think that Rock Out Knock Out is my favorite Cathe Kickbox workout. I like the music and have fun doing it.

Has anyone that has the Whole 30 Fast and Easy Cookbook made the Moroccan Chicken slow cooker recipe? Was it good if you have? I was thinking that someone had made it. I bought stuff to make it for family Wednesday dinner and thought I would make both cauliflower rice and regular rice. If it is not good I could make the Butter Chicken. That is not slow cooker though.

Diane Sue, I have that cookbook, but I haven’t made the slow cooker Moroccan Chicken recipe. I have made the North African Chicken Skillet with sweet potato noodles on page 100 which has a similar flavor profile. It is delicious but not a slow cooker recipe.

Carolyn, thanks. My one worry is that doing it in a slow cooker will make the sweet potatoes too mushy. I will have to look at the North African one. I was hoping it would be an easy meal :) My worry was too much sweetness with the dates, but then I was thinking the amount of cilantro would add some new flavor to the sweetness.

We did our ride today 2 hrs and 20 min or so 26 miles. I forgot to stop the timer. nice spring day, frogs and birds. back to winter tomorrow.

I love sweet potatoes but I like them firmer and browned on the outside. I might start in the microwave to get going, but finish in a hot oven either whole or diced. I like them with savory seasoning and a little heat. I'm doing a sweet potato black bean taco tomorrow. if it's good I'll post.

No worries Judy... I'm glad I'm not lined up for that surgery too! maybe someday but not soon.
