Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/30/2023

Had a great drive up today! Was sunny and clear until the last 1 1/2 hours and then it was mostly cloudy with very light rain. That stopped when I got to Marquette. Dropped off stuff to Aliah and she rode with me to show me where the house they'll be living is at. It's really pretty close to campus and seems like it'll be a good set up for them. She's moving in Saturday. I haven't seen Derek yet and he's working tonight. I did go walk along the bay for awhile. Planning to go out to Presque Isle and hike some in the morning. I don't have to go get Derek's stuff from him until 10-10:30 and he checks out at 11.

Cathe seems to use the fire walker loops for below the knee and the fabric bands above the knee. I have no issues at all with the fabric loop rolling, but the latex ones ugh. They are really bad for anything other than doing fire walkers.

cathy do the fabric bands have stretch to them? the latex ones roll almost immediately expecially the tied together theraband ones. I have no issue using as firewalkers, but for bridges and clamshells they cut in and hurt. (I'm such a delicate little flower!) I'll look at amazon and read some reviews. they had about a thousand choices as usual.

No workout today. I knew I wouldn't feel like it after I got home from the doctor. I was woke up extra early by thunder and pouring rain. It rained a lot. I will get in a workout tomorrow. I discussed the thing with my ribs and we decided I would see my arthritis doctor and maybe he could get an x-ray at the arthritis facility. If not I will call her and she will schedule me an X ray at one near her office. She wanted to check and see if my rib on the left side is out of place. She would have called today, but I want to save myself as many trips across the city as possible.

Valerie, Cathe uses the medium and light fabric loops in the Boss Loops workout which is all lower body. I have not had them roll that I can remember. They are thicker than and wide than the latex bands. It seems most of the instructors that I have done using them use the fabric for lower body work and the rubber type for upper body work.

I havent done firewalkers lately but agree latex is fine for those. I use the latex ones for upper too. I think I will get a graduated set from amazon and try. too difficult to keep the latex ones unrolled. even if they are perfectly flat, they start rolling immediately with the second rep. If I do 3 sets of 15 x 3 different exercises, its a lot of rolling and unrolling!

Today I did RWH Low Impact HiiT One for 29 minutes and 218 calories burned. My average heart rate was 137 and maximum heart rate was 161.

Cathy, it’s great that your drive went well.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day.

Got home a couple hours ago. Long and varied day. I woke up at 5 and decided to just stay up. I did a shoulders, bi's and triceps workout I put together from Travel Fit and the Total Body Boss Loops workout. Then I went and walked at the park for about 40 minutes. It started raining, and was cloudy, no beautiful sunrise over the bay today, so I headed back. Got my stuff packed up, grabbed subs for lunch and finally at 10:30 checked out and went to see if I could help Derek. Derek who had more stuff than he thought and hadn't told me that he bought a mini mini fridge last fall. That ended up staying. It wouldn't fit in the opening of my trunk or back seat, so he just left it in his room, which is what they told him to do. We didn't really have room for it anyway as I used all my skills to get what he had in. I walked in his room and looked like this  Amazing how he acquired MORE stuff over the year, and he left the TV with Aliah. Was light rain for the first 5 hours of the trip, finally got sunny the last hour or so. My new fun project is figuring out my password for shop.cathe. I've had a multi password dilemma for awhile but now none of them workout there. Finally did the forgot password thing, but have still not gotten the email they were supposed to send, so I'm giving up till morning. DH is going to get me some stuff for Mother's Day, and didn't want to create his own password. Truly, I think it would be easier. LOL

Valerie I've had no issue at all with the fabric bands rolling. Cathe's have something on the inside that gives them more grip.

Wednesday I did a short Peloton Tabata ride and 20 minutes of Peloton Arms & Light Weights.
Yesterday I worked 6 hours and did 45 minutes of Yin Yoga when I got home. Today I did Live #214, Total Body Giant Sets #2. I really enjoyed that one and will probably do it a few more times before we get STS 2.0.
I had an ENT appointment today. I’ve been dealing with allergies and a sinus infection for a few days. The doctor gave me a prescription for a Z-Pak and 6 days of a low dose steroid.

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Low Impact or High at home cardio, Boss Loops timesaver #3, CDorner Cardio to the Beat/low impact/standing, Raw Back and the CDorner Stretches. I hope you can get an x-ray soon. I have my annual doctor visit coming up too. It’s always nice to get that over with.

Cathy-Great job with Booty Burn. That’s wonderful that your drive up went so well. I hope you enjoy your hikes.

Valerie-Great job with your road ride. I hope you find a good set of bands for your therapy work. I like Cathe’s fabric bands but not sure if how they would work for therapy.

Carolyn-Great job with JS Stride and Step, LiTE Body Weight and Bands and RWH Low Impact HiiT One.
I haven’t done that LiTe workout much either, even though I remember thinking it was a good one.

I ordered some fabric bands from amazon and will see how they work. they were only $15 but I will get them sunday so thats an advantage. I think I'll be doing this work for a long time so a few various bands wont be overkill. I did a few sets of firewalkers tonight for the heck of it after an hour of therapy work and x train abs. also did a series of curls, presses, dips, tricep push ups. not an actual workout but I just went from move to move with 15 reps each in a constant stream for about 20 minutes. theres a spot in my right shoulder thats not happy, so I avoided anything that uses that area.

Today I did Raw Step Boxing, 28 minutes, 150 calories, heart rate 129/150, 2,318 steps. I then did CDorner Get Strong and Toned Abs Foam Roller/ Killer workout, 22 minutes, 57 calories, heart rate 91/145. I finished with CDorner Neck and shoulder stretch adding some lower stretches and foam rolling, 33 minutes, 40 calories. Total time 83 minutes, 247 calories. The foam roller ab work was pretty good. Chris showed the option to do without the roller. Doing planks with hands and forearms on the roller adds some balance to the work. Also lying on it vertical and she does Russian twists with the foam roller. There are 6 moves and they are done 3 times. She says AMRAP and there is a timer.

I was looking at the NYT yesterday at their list of 'most copied recipes". salmon with mustard/brown sugar is in the list. Judy your recipe is "famous". Did you know?? I like basic salmon. no elaborate fussy things with it, the fresh fish flavor should be central. with DH absolutely hating it, something fast and simple is best. this month copper river salmon will start showing up and I'm looking forward to having it soon.

I’m taking a rest day. My brother came by for a bit and he and my husband have gone out for lunch. I didn’t want to go.

Cathy, nice job with the bands/loops workout that you put together. I’m glad that you made it home safely.

Judy, great job with Peloton Tabata ride + Arms with light weights, Yin Yoga, and Live Total Body Giant Sets.

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Step Boxing and CDorner Abs with the foam roller.

Valerie, I think that you will like the fabric loops. Nice job with your exercises even though it wasn’t a formal workout. I’m looking forward to the copper river salmon. I love it!

Valerie, that is a popular recipe. I think I'll be making it again soon. Copper River salmon is really good.

Carolyn-I hope you had a nice rest day.

Cathy-I'm glad you had a safe trip home. Great job with the shoulders, bi's and triceps workout and the walk.

Diane Sue-Great job with Raw Step Boxing, CDorner Get Strong and Toned Abs Foam Roller/ Killer workout and CDorner Neck and shoulder stretch.

I had disregarded salmon recipes for ages because DH makes such a fuss about how much he hates it, and fusses about the smell. quick prep and fast cooking make it less difficult . I like recipes with sesame oil too. the mustard/brown sugar is the easiest and fastest. I'm making it in the air fryer too. anyway thanks again for sharing it.

rode mt bike around the neighborhood today, little over 5 miles, close to an hour. forgot to start my timer. with a few hundred feet up and down. also therapy. the first salmon arrives here on a special flight. it really is quite a big deal locally.

then my cuisinart died today. its really old, I've used it a huge amount. suddenly plastic pieces started coming off. it was a small unit not made anymore. I ordered a new one today and it should come tomorrow. I had several work bowls for it but those are what broke. I have one left but it has several cracks in the plastic. I must have had it for 30 years so I'm not complaining. the motor runs like new but bowls have not been replaceable for a long time. new one tomorrow along with the fabric bands.
