Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/3/22

Today I did Total Body Giant Sets, a premix with 4 rounds. That was 38 minutes and 173 calories burned. Average heart rate was 115 and maximum heart rate was 142.

Great workouts everybody. Have a nice day.

It has been a busy week and one night I called my brother and we talked for a couple of hours catching up. I realized when Debbie was talking about what has happened to her brother in law that I had not heard from my brother since we moved here a year ago. We generally talked more often and kept up some on facebook, but I do not have facebook anymore. I really enjoyed out visit. I keep getting to bed at 1 am o_O
Yesterday I had a set time to talk to a close friend in Arizona and we talked for 3 hours. So, I missed a lot of what I would have done on the computer, but it is well worth it.

we did our planned mt bike yesterday at a formal mt biking area . its a very dry desert like area with sagebrush and lots of banked trails that are rocky. its fun but not my favorite terrain but a lot less messy than the muddy spot we just rode. 6 miles about an hour and a half. good and bad points to each place. today we are riding in the park for a while. they allow bicycles for about 2 weeks before roads open for vehicle traffic in spring. this is paved roads which is not great for mt bikes but we've never done it before. there is one unpaved road but we are expecting it might be too muddy and not open yet. if its too busy or not fun we will do a hike somewhere. we had a list of things we wanted to do on this trip, and we checked almost every one . we thought about a backpack but decided to put it off until next time since that will be only a few weeks. we expect this will be a bad fire season in california and the smoke all drifts this way. last year the best place was to stay in Washington out of the smoke plume. I really hope this doesn't happen but its is not a good forecast based on rainfall.

This morning I did Step Sync, combos one and two, for 33 minutes and 214 calories burned. Average heart rate was 124 and maximum heart rate was 138.

Diane Sue, I think that it’s great that you were able to get caught up with your brother and your friend. I’ve been trying to do a better job of keeping in touch with my siblings. It’s easy to lose track of how much time has passed since the last phone call.

Valerie, great job with your mountain biking yesterday.

Hello to Judy and Cathy.

We did the road ride with our mt bikes this morning. it was terrific! we were there early, around 9 which is not that early but only two cars there. we were alone most of the ride. uphill from the start for almost 2 miles. not real steep but a steady unrelenting climb. mt bikes are heavy and have big tires with a lot of tread, not idea for asphalt. it was lovely! had to stop for breath a few times but rode the whole thing, until we got to the flatter section where we sped up. did a total of about 14 miles RT. the mt bike road we'd hoped to ride had way too much snow, so maybe in a month or so. rode for an hour and a half, stopped for lunch and rode back. by then the mobs were out. since its a regular road, e-bikes are allowed. I don't approve. its like allowing motorcycles to mix with regular road bikes. it was ego building to see people pushing their e-bikes and regular road bikes up the hill we had just ridden with heavy mt bikes. WAY too many people there by 11:30. so like most things in parks, early arrival is golden, but mid day is a frigging zoo milling all over. the ride back down to parking lot was braking almost all the way to keep speed down to around 20 mph. must have been at least 100 cars parked along the road where only 2 had been. so we had a wonderful morning and were out of there before it got obnoxious.

I envy those of you with brothers and sisters to converse with. I didn't luck out that way. I have long time friends I can chat with instead but family ... not great options. I am not a fan of social media for talking to anyone. its fine for updates on groups, but waste of time to try to talk to anyone.
we are traveling back tomorrow so a long day of sitting. I am proud of how many hours of riding, skiing, and hiking we packed into less than 2 weeks. this was a great vacation!.

No workout today. I had a meeting at 9:30 and I didn’t want to exercise as soon as I got out of bed. It’s cold, gray, and dreary here and I am having a lazy day. I started a pot of chicken stock from bones in the freezer. I will use some for soup for dinner and freeze the rest in small portions.

Valerie, I hope that you have a safe trip today.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today I did Kelly Coffey Cardio Fit Warm up from her Bonus Raw step box, then the premix Hi/Lo cardio 28 minutes, 103 calories, heart rate 108/143. O then did a CDorner that I had saved doing another Kelly warm up and then her 30 minutes, Inner Thighs and Abs which uses a Pilates ball for most and a dumbbell (she uses 15#) for squats and side to side lunges only. I used a 5# and held it low instead of cupped at my chest. Time spent was 40 minutes, 108 calories, heart rate 97/134. I did not want to pick up more weight than I am at PT yet. Both are good workouts. Total time was 68 minutes, calories burned 211, 2,845 steps.
My shoulder is sore from the body blade. I can't get it to move much as I move it. It would take a while to get that strength to get the ends to sort of bounce. I keep going back and looking at the Pro one which looks like the one the PT has and looking at the exercises. I guess you have free access to usage videos online. It was designed by a physical therapist. I think I might like to have one. I put it in my list to think about. I see a lot of knock offs on Amazon.

Valerie, what is an e bike? I have not heard that reference before. I understand wanting to enjoy the rides and avoid lot of people. It takes away from the calm of getting out to enjoy nature.
When I had facebook we did a lot of messenger stuff which is really just like texting except I always wondered if they monitored the conversations. Not enough privacy there.

Carolyn, nice workout yesterday. I keep eyeing Step Sync and am so indecisive right now when I go in to workout. Hence starting with warm ups, looking at a workout and changing my mind. Eventually I will come up with a plan. My shoulder was really sore after PT yesterday so nothing other than PT. That Body Blade move is tough. I can see why it is a way to strengthen those small places in the shoulder. I checked on Amazon and it only weighs 2.5# . It is the movement and bending that causes the muscles to react. I am not very good at going out and coming back home to a workout. I also am not good at first thing in the morning like I used to do years ago. I like to enjoy my morning time before I go out or work out. That is why I schedule PT for late morning. Usually 11 o'clock.

Carolyn-Great job with the Step Sync combos. I hope you had a nice rest day today. It was cold and dreary here too. Chicken soup sounds good!

Valerie-I'm not a fan of e-bikes either. Back in the day I remember riding up hills on my mountain bike and riding past people walking their road bikes up the hill because it was so steep. It was ego building and a good feeling. Not sure I could still do it since I haven't ridden much outside in the past few years. I'm in the same place with family, I just don't have many family members left, and the few that I have, I haven't spoken to in years. We just didn't stay in touch.

Diane Sue-Nice workouts today! That's great that you spent time catching up with your brother and your friend. I keep in touch with my old friends from Iowa too.

Cathy-Great job with STS this week!
