Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/23/2023

Today I did XTRAIN Legs, Standing +Ball and Chair segments. That was 40 minutes and 195 calories burned. Average heart rate was 115 and maximum heart rate was 160.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Lower Body with Dumbbells and Stability Ball and the Mobility workout.

Valerie, it’s good that you got in a bit of XC Skiing even though the conditions were not great. I thought of your therapy exercises as I did XTrain Legs today with the side and rear slide lunges.

Judy, nice job with your 45 minute Peloton ride, PHA Supersets, and Yin yoga.

Hello to Cathy.

Have a nice day everyone.

No workout as I shopped this morning. Made a start on getting stuff for Derek. A week from today, I should be just about to Marquette! I'm thinking I'll do Cathe's live from today tomorrow as it can easily swap with what I planned.

Valerie your skiing really sounds like it was a great workout. I don't really regret not paying the couple thousand to have navigation added to my car, but it sure would be nice. Do you get a lot of snowmobilers? Pretty sure Michigan has far more of those than skiers, and every year circumstances make it easier for people to be stupid and the number of accidents/deaths rise. It sounds like deep snow is a big like quick sand, if you get stuck.

Judy nice job with the Peloton ride, Live PHA Supersets #2 and yoga. Looks like we're going to be getting more rain, so I'm enjoying todays sunshine. Derek said they are in the 40's every day until the day after he comes home when it'll be near 60! I just don't want any precipitation while I'm up there because I want to get in a few short walks/hikes. Since he'll likely be able to take himself back and forth his last semester, my trips will be fewer though we're planning something in the fall.

Carolyn great job with Cardio Quick Fix.

Diane Sue nice job with Lower Body with dumbbells and a stability ball and the mobility workout.

Today I did CDorner Cardio Kickboxing 32 minutes, heart rate 139/159, 187 calories. I followed this with RWH just doing the back, 25 minutes, 68 calories, heart rate 95/127. I finished with Yoga with Adriene neck shoulder back quickie, 10 minutes, 17 calories. Total time was 67 minutes, 272 calories 3,516 steps. I had to break up the workout because some things came up and my husband brought in lunch so I did the weight work and stretch afterward.
Back
One Arm Row 20# x 12 reps 3 sets
finisher barbell rows 20 reps and band pulls 25#
pullovers 15# dumbbell 12 reps 3 sets
finisher barbell row 25# 20 reps and supine band pulls
one arm angled row 15# dumbbell 12 reps 3 sets
one arm seated band pulls
(this was lower than when I did it in February, but I do not want to set off the back and shoulders)

Cathy, I remember working out in the living room bright and early before daycare children came and it was so nice when I had one of the rooms for my workout room.

Carolyn, nice work on Kelly Coffey's Cardio Quick Fix yesterday. I went out and checked after they buried the cable and they actually put the rock back and you couldn't tell where they had buried it. Not so with the electric company and cable company. I keep putting more topsoil over where they dug the hole and will eventually put pavers or something on top for when they have to get back behind the plants again.
Cardio is definitely more fun and a feel good afterward workout.

Judy, good job on the Peloton ride yesterday and PHA#2 supersets today along with yin yoga. I am hoping to build some mass and my shoulders do make it difficult. It makes it hard to balance things out and I do not want to make things worse. I am trying to keep up the mobility and stretching stuff and do weights.

Valerie, nice that you got in some skiing today. That is interesting about the timing when trying to ski. I would not have thought about the hazards of being in a place that would be hard to get back. We generally end up using the Google Maps when travelling because it shows more than what the GPS in the Jeep shows. It even notified spots that were speed traps.

spring snow can be really difficult to travel thru. a thin ice layer forms on the top, the snow underneath does not compress into a firm layer but becomes almost hollow. if it's still cold out, you might be able to walk on the ice layer, but when the sun hits it or the air warms up, it collapses under pressure and you and your skis or snowshoes drop down several feet. when you try to lift yourself out, the snow under your hands collapses too. if you only sink in a few inches its not great but its manageable. if your feet go down 2-3 feet you are going to wallow very slowly back toward where you started. you wont forget the experience. when snow is like that even snowshoes or skis punch right thru instead of supporting you. makes for a very rough day.

didn't do anything today but the ab workout from xtrain and therapy exercises. going to hike in the morning.
I I use mapping apps when Im looking for an office in the city especially if traffic is heavy. I even use it outside cities sometimes but I always check with a map . there are a lot of glitches in rural areas.

in WA we use areas not used by snowmobilers because they are so obnoxious. in montana we use some areas that are legal to snowmobile but we only use them if no snowmobiles are around. some trails get groomed by snowmobiles and with the light dry snow and lots of animals, the grooming sometimes improves things a lot. a herd of bison walking up the road can make a mess of a ski trail!

This morning I did XTrain Bis and Tris timesaver for 29 minutes and 115 calories burned. My average heart rate was 112 and maximum heart rate was 170. These are my least favorite body parts to work.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Cardio Kickboxing, RWH Back, and Yoga with Adrienne.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day.

After much talking myself into it, I did yesterday's, the Heat is On this morning. Fast paced and hits everything, including cardio. She switches back and forth between using the step as a bench and for cardio based moves, so I had to switch heights a lot, but I have the room to do it. I used 5-15's.

Valerie I know what kind of snow you mean. I've gone from walking on snow, so sinking in, but even in drifted areas it's less than 2'. I've seen video of them grooming the snowmobile trails on state land and they generally do it in the middle of the night to avoid snowmobilers, but there's still the occasional collision. It's crazy how many trails there are: https://images.app.goo.gl/KMJnMLZv2D9SwX5TA
Nice job with the abs and therapy. I hope your hike is a good one today.

Diane Sue great job with Cardio Kickboxing, RWH back and the yoga.

Carolyn nice job with XTrain Bis and Tris.

Hi Judy!

Today I did CDorner Fast Basic Step #283, 34 minutes, 163 calories, heart rate 122/156, 3,363 steps. I then did Abs, 100 sit ups, 1 segment from CDorner abs with Pilates ball (she had it under her back and that was making my neck hurt and low back hurt so stopped) and did LITE 6 Pack Abs #2, 21 minutes, 63 calories, heart rate 99/125. I finished off with Perfect 30 Flow timesaver yoga Strength and Mobility 22 minutes, 45 calories, heart rate 84/106, 56 calories. Total time was 67 minutes, 271 calories, 3,529 steps.

did a 4 hour hike today. sat for a bit after getting to the top. it was outside the park and we actually found a place without snow. heard highway noise for much of it but choices are limited right now. still it was very nice. weird at how varied the snow cover is here.

What almost 8 hours of sleep will do for you-best cardio workout I've had in a long time! I did my Finished Step and I think I finally have it organized the way I want it. It's 48 minutes long and starts with the warm up from Party Rockin' Step 1, then the finished combos from Step Sync, then Rhythmic Step, then Step Blast, then Low impact Challenge finishing up with the combos from Party Rockin' Step 1 and ending with the cool down from Party Rockin' Step 1. Average HR 131, max 169 and 73 zone minutes. The only issue I still have with this one is that by the time I get to Party Rockin' Step I've done a fair number of moves similar but different from the ones it has and I try to do the other version which of course, leads to being in the wrong place and on the wrong leg. Fortunately I'm pretty good and getting back on track. Going to be sunny for the next few hours!

Valerie sounds like a great hike. Isn't it weird how the snow can vary that much.

Diane Sue nice job with Fast Basic Step, abs and stretch.

Hi to Carolyn and Judy.

Wanted to add that after a few weeks of thinking about it, I decided to get History Hit. It's like Netflix, but just history. Right now if you use the code SPRING it's $3.50 for three months before going to $6.99 and I also got two weeks free first. Most of the stuff is around 30 minutes long. So if you like history check it out. It is mostly British based though there's certainly plenty of British history to use.

Today is a rest day for me. I went to the Farmer’s Market and it was really crowded. The weather was so nice that everyone decided to come out this morning.

Cathy, great job with The Heat is On and your Finished Step. It’s great that you got 8 hours of sleep! That history streaming channel sounds interesting with a good price right now.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Fast Basic Step, LiTE 6 Pack Abs, and Perfect Flow timesaver.

Valerie, your hike sounds nice.

Hello to Judy.

we planned a ride this morning but it didnt work out great. no snow yesterday. this is a low level road but we got into snow and ice immediately. some clear sections but only a mile before it was solidly snow. no doubt some clear sections but not rideable. mud in the clear sections. we drove to a few other spots off this same road to check for repairs from last years flooding and found them fixed but too much snow yet. . decided to go back to WA tomorrow. not enough for us to do here right now tho weather is lovely.

in addition I found two ticks this morning as I was getting dressed on clothes from yesterday. yuck. I hate ticks! no clue it would be tick season already. still freezing most nights and I've blabbed on about all the snow. took an hour to check all my clothes, packs, boots. two was it. washing everything right now. I have pyrethrin spray to use once things are clean. I do it every year but did not think it was necessary yet. surprise surprise!
the latest we were staying would have been Wed so tomorrow is a better drive.

Today I did Part of CDorner Total Body At Home with stability ball and dumbbells. Chris said it was mostly arms, but I did not get to arms when I quit. What I did was chest and abs and I forwarded further and it was still more abs and chest. I stopped at 17 minutes, 45 calories, heart rate 93/128, 391 steps. I went on to RWH Shoulders part, 14 minutes, 43 calories, heart rate 96/116,155 steps. Then I did RWH Low Impact Hiit #2, 31 minutes, 154 calories, heart rate 130/169, 1,529 steps. I finished off with Yoga with Adriene, yoga for bone health and yoga upper back pain, 32 minutes, 56 calories. I really did not need more abs today after yesterday's workout. My abs were sore this morning.

Total Body CDorner with ball and dumbbells 60 seconds each move
warm up with ball
stability ball plank
chest press on ball 10# dbs
crunch on ball
ball incline chest press 10# dbs
ball regular ches press with a hand turn
ball crunches
ball chest press 10#
stopped here

Ripped with Hiit shoulders
rear delt flys 8# dbs set 1, 10# dbs set 2 and 3
fiinisher one arm band pulls 20 reps
prone rear delts 5# dbs 12 reps 3 sets
finisher T band pulls

Valerie, I am surprised there was ticks when it is that cold outside. I am sure we are going to start the bug battle here after all of the rains since it will get up in the upper 70's and next weekend 80's.

Cathy, that is some workout that you put together. I like the mix. I get off track with some of CDorner's workouts because she will do a similar pattern in her more complex step workouts and change it a bit and I find myself doing what I thought was coming next and had to correct it. Her advanced workouts are more complex than her basic ones. I enjoy the challenge most days though on the advanced ones.

Carolyn, I hope you got what you needed at the farmers market. It was nice here today and I got outside to do some planting.
