Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/19

Carolyn, I used to do EW recipes like that. Now they have all the extra lists, titles, spaces within the recipe itself. its like there's no printer friendly format. I just printed CL banana bread, in one page. DH would like to try a chocolate banana bread. it printed fine using the printer icon, printing the first page. EW doesn't work like that anymore with all kinds of ridiculous spacing and junk inserted in the recipe itself so to get the whole thing, ingredients and directions, it needs 5-6 pages. I have a pretty extensive # of recipe and if each took 6 pages Id need another room to store them.

back from the weekly grocery pilgrimage. loads of TP and Kleenex now but no flour and hardly any canned tomatoes. I heard on the radio that farmers were going to dump 90% of the potato crop because without restaurants, there's no way to process or use most of the crop. mind boggling to understand that many potatoes went to French fries and hash browns.

I did stacked upper body and the ab workout.

Hi all,

No workouts yet this week. I have been really tired, so decided to take a rest week.

Valerie, yes, I have been using this stuff for quite a while....I may up it to 3 times a week, will call the Urologist and get an opinion. The DR on call also mentioned patients he has that are on a permanent low dose anti0biotic. Not sure I want to even consider that route with the C-diff issue. I will definitely have to try having John do the dying of my hair next time. Yes, very true about those Home Ec teachers, they had to have the patience of saints... One of the funny things I remember from sewing classes was that anyone that was using the electric machine and was deemed to be "speeding"...sewing at a fast and Out of control speed, had to pay a fine of 5 cents. LOL...I "copy & paste" recipes into Word, then delete all the junk and parts that I don't want. I can then also increase the font size so I can read the thing without a magnifying glass! If you'd like to, post a link here of an online recipe you would like to print and I can see if I can work on it.

Carolyn, nice job on the workouts. I can see how the WW Zoom meeting would be motivating.

Diane Sue, great to hear that your daughter is okay...good job on the KCM workouts! You sure have that hair dying process down! I do wish that some of the girls in school got to learn some of the "shop" things, like using tools, fixing things, and changing a tire. I never have done that, and wish I had learned. I did learn how to check the oil, and refill.....you kind of do that fast when you have a junker type car that burns more oil than gas. :)

Lori, Thanks for posting that video! It was perfect and so true! How is Bob doing?

Hi to Judy,

Take care,

Today I did LiTE PHA 2 for 49 minutes and 244 calories burned. My average heart rate was 118 and maximum heart rate was 147.

One of the Christmas gifts that I gave my 11 year old granddaughter was a subscription to the young chef’s club from America’s Test Kitchen. She receives a box each month with themed activities and recipes. She has really enjoyed it, but it’s been a lifesaver during this quarantine period. Last month was learning about yeast and she has been making bread and rolls. She and her younger brother both like the science aspect with tasty results! They are developing some of those real life skills.

Deb, I’m so sorry that you are not still feeling well. Infections can make you tired, so resting is a good idea.

Diane Sue, I hope that you missed the nasty weather that passed through Oklahoma and Texas.

Hello to Valerie, Lori, and Judy.

Ok... now I feel a little silly. apparently EW has fixed it. if you uncheck 4 boxes at the top of the "print" document , it will print in 2 pages. This did not work at all a short time ago. I complained about it to EW when it first started but never got a response. I had a range of problems, sometimes it printing too small, etc. I think it must have been fixed recently. few weeks ago I had to copy to Wordpad to get it pared down. two pages I can live with.
it used to work well, then several months it went ridiculous and now it looks better again.
I printed it, above is a link. its better than a few months ago but still goofy. first page is mostly wasted space and print is too small. so back to wordpad top edit, and then it prints on one page and is more readable.

I don't have Word, I have Open Office( thanks again Judy) and it did not let me edit the document.

I have had good luck with the estrogen cream. it took care of my problem. a lot of people freak out when they hear the word 'estrogen" but I'm fine with localized use. Make sure you are drinking enough water. its a good habit to have. WW even has a way to track water intake added a short time ago. I do 75 to 100 oz a day, plus coffee and other liquid. the UTI I had a while ago totally sapped my energy so wait until you feel stronger.

John can help. My husband is inexperienced too. clipping into sections made it easier to get the roots so big sections aren't missed. my hair is chin length. you need to figure a way to rinse so its not getting in your eyes. Diane sue or Lori how do you do the rinse procedure?

Yesterday I did Kelly Coffey Build and Burn Lower Body tabata, 29 minutes, 88 calories, heart rate 102/138, 1039 steps, followed by Lite Cardio Party Time saver mix #5, hi/lo + blasts, 27 minutes, heart rate 129/155, 145 calories, 2,629 steps. I finished off with Fitbit "Physique 7" recovery stretch with Sydney 15 minutes, 39 calories, 7 steps. Total time was 71 minutes, 272 calories, 3,675 steps. I went to Sprouts and just seemed to be constantly busy and had paperwork and planning budget to do.
Today I did a fitbit boxing cardio endurance (daily burn) workout labeled as medium total body workout, 30 minutes, heart rate 114/148, 128 calories(their estimate was 177) 2,387 steps. I ten started a barre cardio but only did 5 minutes because they were using a ball between the knees in these low pulses and it made my knees hurt which did amount to 102 steps an 12 calories. I went on to do the planned Build and Burn Kettlebell Kickbox Fusion, 27 minutes, 121 calories, 1,985 steps, heart rate 116/145. I used a 15 and 20 # kettlebell depending on movement and did not do the overhead press, just a clean. My neck was sore, stiff and snapping so did not want to push.

Valerie, I have pulled up recipes on my tablet and then typed them out on my computer which works sometimes when it is like that. Those ads are so annoying. I am sure that those companies are making their money by providing the recipe, but getting money for all of the ads and shopping info. I have been annoyed when pulling up recipes on Pinterest lately and getting it in a video when all I wanted was to see a recipe written out. I think it is pathetic that they are dumping milk and potatoes and who knows what else. Then we have people that don't have money for groceries right now. Give them milk and potatoes or something. Flour does seem to be low most of the time when we go to the store. I bought a 5# bag awhile back and my husband had managed to get me two 2# bags of self rising flour.
I just rinse my hair in the sink and have a towel nearby to wipe my face off after rinsing, I keep my eyes closed. My husband put the higher up faucet in my bathroom for me so I could do that. The other option is to use a spray nozzle in the kitchen sink. I don't like rinsing my hair in the kitchen sink though.

Carolyn, I would definitely not want to be seen in the state I am after working out :) That gift for your granddaughter sounds perfect. I think if I gave something like that to my 12 year old granddaughter she would love it, but her 5 year old brother would cause a catastrophe because he is the one who wants to cook. When I cook he drags my step stool over and wants to help. We make cookies and I have had to work on him getting the ingredients all in the bowl and the importance of that. He has gotten better. Granddaughter on the other hand I can let use the chef knife and stuff. She likes to help too. I miss them. I have been chatting with text messages with my granddaughter today. I am going to write that down and check it out though. It has rained pretty hard, but no tornadoes here. I was worried about my car being outside though. Relied on my husband to move his motorcycle back to it's spot and put my car back in since he was up all night. I think he was going to ride it and it wouldn't start so to hook the battery tender up he had to take off the seat and the back rack. Then we figured out it was his key fob. I found him a battery for it and it started right up. Those were things that were hard getting on the motorcycle so he set it up so he would not have to take off the stuff to use the battery tender next time. Took up most of the day and then the rain came.

Deb, I forgot about the teacher not appreciating girls running the machines at high speed. She would get annoyed with it. When I was in high school the classroom part of drivers ed spent time on the engines and oil changing and stuff. I remember them talking about the cylinders and stuff in the car and I was pretty bored with it all I guess.

My take on the potatoes /milk is it was a packaging and distribution problem. commercially they are geared to distribute in massive restaurant size quantities and they cant convert to individual family size quickly enough to make it possible to use either. even if I were very hungry what good would a 50 gallon jug of milk be. wont fit in the fridge, could never use most of it. same with potatoes. takes me a whole season to use 10 lbs, what would I do with 100 lbs?

Ive used the laundry room sink to rinse but I need DH's assistance because of location of faucet. I also don't want to use kitchen.

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday was a rest day. Wanted to do our taxes which takes a while! We have used Turbo Tax for the past 10 years and it works for us. Before we start, we make sure we have everything we need. Its all about preparation! Once you have this then it just answering questions and plugging in the information. Glad this is done! Next, is my son’s. I have always done his taxes! Lol!

I hear you about having to shop more frequently for fresh produce. And at one time we did this. Now to go out less frequently, I buy a ton of fresh produce that we will be able to use up...then once it is gone we use frozen vegetables for a couple of weeks. We are ok with this.

Valerie...we have a hand held shower nozzle that makes it easy to rinse. I just keep my eyes close, bend my head back and rinse while water goes down the back and not over my face. Prior to not having hand held, pretty much did the same thing. I have never had an issue. after I shower, I spray my shower with a bleach cleaner to prevent any dye from staining. I love that recipe! Can’t wait to try it.

Carolyn...what a great gift!! And yes perfect timing! Did your daughter’s trampoline arrive? Are the children loving it?

Deb...Bob is doing great! Doctors finally got his meds in order and he is feeling better and better every day. I’ll have to say a couple months ago was very scary for us. Glad this is past and he is healing well.

Have a great day all!

Hello to Diane Sue and Judy!

Hi Everyone,

This week I did STS workouts Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. Yesterday I did a 60 minute Peloton ride and today I did a 45 minute Peloton ride. The governor extended Michigan's stay at home order until May 15.
My leave of absence from Home Depot is over April 30 and they have me on the schedule starting May 7. After speaking with my doctor, I plan on trying to get my leave extended. There are still way too many cases in metro Detroit for me to feel safe working in the public right now. I might need to go on a medical leave of absence. The doctor said I shouldn't go back until August at the earliest and he wasn't even sure it would be safe enough by then.

Deb-That was a good idea to take a rest week. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Diane Sue-Nice workouts this week! The grilled quesadilla sounds good. I'll have to look for that recipe.

Carolyn-That was a great gift for your granddaughter!

Valerie-That makes more sense that the milk and potatoes are being wasted due to being in such huge quantities. Few people would be able to store/use 50 gallons of milk or 100 lbs of potatoes.

Lori-So glad that Bob is doing better!

Have a good weekend,

Judy

This morning I did Cardio Party+Bonus Abs+Extended Stretch One. That was 58 minutes and 334 calories burned. My average heart rate was 120 and maximum heart rate was 147.

Diane Sue, nice workouts Monday and Tuesday. My granddaughter is enjoying the various activities in the gift subscription. She likes science and she likes to help me cook. We often talk about the chemistry involved in baking. I saw where some individuals and businesses are trying to get the excess farm crops to food pantries around the country to avoid having them destroyed. Publix grocery store corporation is doing that here in the southeast.

Lori, great job getting your taxes done. I used Turbotax for years and it is easy. It still stressed me to deal with the taxes so I started using the CPA again. Yes, my daughter’s family has the JumpSport and they love it.

Judy, nice work with STS and your Peloton rides. Extending your leave of absence sounds like a good idea. I don’t want my husband to return to his part time job at the courthouse and I think he is starting to agree with me. It’s not worth endangering your health.

Valerie, I read that many farmers sell their crops to restaurants, schools, and other businesses. There is just not a market for them right now. All of this is so sad.

Hello to Deb.

Yesterday I did a short neighborhood ride on my mt bike, 35 min and about 5 miles. only one big hill to deal with. this morning we went xc skiing. it was nice! snow is getting better as it consolidates into spring corn. we drove as high as we could, stopped by a big snow drift, deep but not long, and hiked uphill with our skis for maybe 2 miles. then skied the rest of the way up. spring is like that with big patches of unmelted snow mixed with open sections. its nice if we can drive right to continuous snow, but doesn't always happen. this was 3.5 hours. whole lot of work and fun. we use climbing skins to go uphill, then take them off to come down. carry about 20-25 lbs of gear so it is a great calorie burner. didn't see any critters. lots of bobcat tracks, rabbit tracks( bobcat has to eat something) and grouse and squirrel. and deer. we will be able to ski this road for probably another month unless someone comes in and chews it up with a snowmobile or some such.

I felt so stupid because I didnt realize that products sold to restaurants, schools etc would be packaged so differently and companies cant switch things up quickly. sad so much food will be wasted, and the farmers will be out of income for the year.

we have a hand held shower too but I was afraid the dye might stain the floor or walls so I have stuck to the utility sink. this is hand held also but the swivel is too far to reach and adjust so I have DH help me here too. the utility sink wont stain.

the recipe link I put in above is dinner tonight. Never tried this recipe so was printing it. I have a bag of broccoli and I love sesame.

Great that Bob is doing better. you need to keep him protected. even the best infectious disease experts are making this up as the data comes in, and forecasts are educated guesses. especially with so much push from the top,( no, won't go on a rant here) to get things rolling in what (I believe) is way too soon. We here are letting Boeing plan construction open up with a lot of workplace restrictions, so again, will wait for data to start coming in to see if it's possible.

Judy it is really hard to work with a mask on. grocery shopping for an hour is hard, hot and unpleasant.. Im using lightweight garden gloves with breathable backs rather than disposable gloves. the latex ones are hot and sticky, the fingers get caught on everything. I bought a bundle of light garden gloves at Costco, wear one or two a day, toss in the wash machine when I get home. the latex ones tear easily. I have new respect for medical people who can do fine work with these on.

Today I did Build and Burn Box and Tone Intervals, 25 minutes, heart rate 108 /144, 102 calories, 1,839 steps. I then did Raw Cardio Overload #2 wearing my 4# vest, 35 minutes, 197 calories, 3,316 steps. I finished with Fit Bit "down dog" ease upper body tension 16 minutes, 45 calories, heart rate 83/106, 18 steps. Total time was 76 minutes, calories burned 344, 5,173 steps.

Thinking about shopping, I went to Sprouts the other day and the guy at the meat counter put on fresh gloves to handle the salmon, then took them off to throw them away and put on a second pair to get the shrimp. My thought though was that there was not hand washing between gloves, he pulled once pair off over the trash and put the next right on. So, I thought it sort of defeated the purpose. I guess in some ways this is all making me more of a germaphobe. I bring it home unwrap rinse dry with paper towel and package in freezer bags, take tales off the shrimp before I bag them. Then that all goes in a plastic bag and out to the trashcan outside.
As far as throwing out food, it is sort of understandable, but then if the grocery shelves end up empty and people are left hungry it is not such a great plan. I personally am tired of hearing all of the stuff going on. When my husband leaves that television is off. I try to enjoy my time. Mornings I take my stuff upstairs and read, brush the dog, pray and workout.

I always rinse the sink, tub or whatever I rinse the color out with and have never had hair color stain. I suppose it would depend on what it got on. I am sure grout might stain. Porcelain not so likely to.

Lori, I always hated the time it took to get everything together for taxes. Particularly when I did daycare and my husband was out of country. He organizes and gets the stuff together throughout the year now and starts a current tax item folder so that works easily when we take it to the cpa. Although no matter how much we have together is still costs a bundle for them to do taxes. It is always a relief to have that out of the way.
Happy to hear that Bob is doing so much better.

Judy, nice work on STS. May 7th does sound soon to be going back to work if the virus is still pretty strong there.

Carolyn, Cardio Party is always fun. I have used the stretches on the lite workouts so many times for some extra stretching. That is great that some are working to get the excess food to food pantries. I know I have seen on the news lines of people waiting to get some food who are out of jobs. The science behind cooking is always fascinating. I explain things often when we are cooking.

Valerie, That is great that you were able to enjoy some X country skiing and cycling. It sounds nice. Humid here, when I went to Sprouts yesterday that mask came off as soon as I got in the car. I bring it home and the light jacket I am sweating in and toss in the washing machine after removing my keys from the pocket.

first, the recipe I posted to show the printing problem with EW.... tested last night. I thought it was so-so. edible but not a repeater for us. I like broccoli roasted with a dash of sesame oil but chicken was too watery.

we did the master bath remodel only 2 yrs ago. the tile and grout are light creamy beige, the floor tile are small ones so a lot of grout. I love it. not rinsing off hair dye in there. Utility sink is less risky and has a hand held sprayer too.
our upgrade in our guest bathroom is developing a problem. we used peel and stick wallpaper, the majority of wallpaper available. after 4 months the paper has not stuck well enough and is pulling back from the seam lines. edges were butted right next to each other, we were meticulous. whole panels of paper have shrunk back leaving small gaps of about 1/16th of an inch between panels. not every panel but enough of them. very disappointing. we will have to redo this with regular paper and paste, if I can find something suitable. I like the look of the paper but it doesn't stick well enough. some panels needed added paste because they were loose. I don't recommend peel and stick!.

part of the problem with disposable gloves is DH needs large ones. too big for me, finger tips get caught everywhere. good luck finding boxes of disposable gloves. the garden gloves are smaller and fit better. I keep a few pair in my car, wear a pair for each trip then into the wash. I use them for gardening, and for pumping gas. a big bundle at costco for something like $12.

Today is a rest day. I had another Zoom meeting this morning with the investment club. We have been looking at making a purchase and decided to take advantage of market conditions and go for it. We had a very detailed stock study to discuss before we voted. It was a great meeting.

Valerie, how disappointing that the recipe didn’t turn out the way that you wanted. I like your idea for using the gardening gloves.

Hello to Diane Sue, Deb, Judy, and Lori. Enjoy the afternoon.

This morning I did Raw Box and Tone with 1# gloves, 30 minutes,178 calories, heart rate 138/162, 2,816 steps. I then did Raw Stretch and tone wearing my 3# ankle weights, 33 minutes, 38 calories, heart rate 86/116, 78 steps. Not enough sleep last night. Total time was 63 minutes, calories burned 216, 2,894 steps.

Valerie, you could just remove the wallpaper and texture and paint the walls unless you really want the wallpaper for the design. That is too bad it is coming loose. I remember the hassle of pasting wallpaper. I think we still have corner rollers and the trough to dip it in hanging around in the garage. I have thought about all of the people pumping gas and touching everything. I haven't put gas in my car since this all started. My husband has though.

Carolyn, enjoy your rest day. Yes, it seems now would be a good time to invest.

We might go to plain walls especially if the choices of paper is as pathetic as I expect it might be. if it were only some loose spots, we could manage it but the long edges are retracting so there is a long strip of bare wall showing where it was covered to begin with. really disappointed.

I use gloves normally when pumping gas so my hands don't stink of gasoline but I didn't wash the gloves every trip. I can put gloves on and do a several stop trip, sanitize and throw gloves in wash at home. I haven't gassed up in over a month.

I did Chiseled Upper body and Abs #1.
