Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/17/22

This morning I did Slamming' Cardio Express. Good workout and some moves I hadn't seen before. Yesterday was shopping. Started picking up a few things for Derek and next week, I'll get with him before I shop to make sure I have stuff for him. In general he makes all his own food, though if he's working late enough at the zoo to impact supper, I'll have it ready for him. Everything he eats is easy to make. LOL We are at real feel 43 and it's been dreary and rainy here all day. But, it's going to be 80 tomorrow! Ugh. Why can't we just have nice low 70's for awhile. Of course, that's not lasting and we're back into the 40's by Tuesday. Got my new Cathe tank today and I will be wearing it tomorrow!

Valerie that's great that you got in a long ski session! My Dad has hearing aids, my Mom will never admit she needs them and that she's the reason their TV is so loud. I've learned the best thing to do is aim to get their during their lunch and then they will just stay at the kitchen table talking. If we are in the living room with the TV on, my Dad will ask Mom if he can turn it off or down (since we're talking) and she'll say no even when she's not paying attention to it. We have a very small family, and I rarely stay there anymore. The few times I've gone to visit my sister are much easier because we are both totally fine doing our own thing, if we don't want to do the same thing. I hope your trip goes smoothly. Great idea to take the camper.

Diane Sue great job with the workouts! We're you not getting your heart rate up or was it not reading correctly. I could not get mine to be accurate today. Paused it, switched wrists multiple times, finally 2/3rds of the way through it got a decent reading but not till the last two was it where I thought it was accurate. My heart rate is not in the 90's when I'm doing burpees! LOL Sounds like you had a great, if chilly, time for Easter.

Carolyn nice job with the Boot Camp Circuit! I hope the what your dermatologist gave you helps. I went the other day to get a new spot on my face checked. Just another type of benign age spot, like the one near it. He of course has a fancy name for them, but sheepishly admitted last time that yes it is an age spot. I guess they try not to call them that.

oh yes skin issues! Carolyn, sorry to hear you are having issues. as we get older, they give us grief. the skin is the largest organ. it sure makes its presence known sometimes. one spot looks so much like the next one! Hope the Derm gets your issues settled down.
I had a squamous cell on my thigh. I get checked every year for a while. I'm careful with sun screen. always cautious with my face, not as much with arms and legs. I hate the feel of most sunscreens and wear light clothing for cover. I never got a lot of swim suit exposure and never did tropical vacations so it's mostly arms and legs, hikers' tan areas. still, people have things pop up in odd spots, like between toes or bottom of feet that were never sun exposed, so a good idea to keep aware of any new blebs that pop up anywhere.

we did a nice hike today with another couple, 5- 6 miles round trip. lots of flowers blooming. went out for lunch. it was good. a nice break. cool and sunny.

we also have a small family. mine is almost nonexistant, DH has more people. enough people are not speaking as it is. I don't want to get into lifestyle fights so the camper works well. they don't want us disrupting their routine. we go to sleep earlier and get up earlier. I can't change theirs, they can't change ours. the camper makes it comfortable and avoids all the load/unload business. then we can stop somewhere in between to do something fun. don't like the same kind of food either, so the fridge in the camper covers that issue. we will stop a place or two on the way home to mt bike in some different areas. depends on weather. we will be back quickly if it rains much.

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout two, for 29 minutes and 223 calories burned. Average heart rate was 136 and maximum heart rate was 170. The weather is absolutely beautiful today! I went to the farmer’s market and got some strawberries fresh from the field. Farm fresh eggs and a bounty of vegetables made for a very successful shopping trip.

Cathy, great job with Slamming Cardio Express

Valerie, your hike sounds like it was a nice one. When is your trip?

Hello for Judy and Diane Sue.

Did In The Ring this morning. I really like that one a lot. It was a beautiful day here. Around 80, sunny and had all the windows open. Love having fresh air in the house. And there is more water on our back paths than there has been all spring. It's about 3" deep in places. Maybe it'll be gone by July. DH was gone for a few hours running errands, so I moved things and steam mopped and vacuumed. So much easier when he isn't here.

Valerie that sounds like a lovely hike! No flowers here yet, but I see I have buds on some tulips.

Carolyn nice job with Cardio Quick Fix! That's great that you can get to the Farmer's Market. I know longer have one that's on the day I shop. I am hoping to get to the co-op in Marquette to see if they have their bulk spices out. Whole Foods still only has their overhead bins for bulk foods, so very limited, and I read somewhere that they may opt to not carry the bulk spices in the future. I hate buying it in bottles as it is SO much more expensive than bulk. A lot more expensive.

Today for cardio I started with CDorner Low Impact workout but got discouraged after 14 minutes as my heart rate stayed between 88 and 115, 38 calories. I stopped to mess with my phone settings and it popped up and said Garmin found?? So I did Burpee Girl Dance Aerobics fat burning, 30 minutes, heart rate 134/162, 213 calories. This is the second of hers that says dance and I don't see it as dance. Maybe the music? But I like the movement patterns and liked the music. I then did CDorner Arms and Abs with bands, mixing in my PT exercises and skipping the second biceps series and the triceps and just did PT moves. So, I paused where needed to do PT moves that were timed. I used the strength setting on my Garmin and when I needed the timed portions I pushed the button to start and stop that set so I could time the moves for 4 to 5 minutes that we time at PT. This was 51 minutes, 134 calories. I used 5# dumbbells with tubing for the scapular squeezes I do with the machine. 3's for the lateral raises, and rotations, 5# bar for reverse grip pullover. I finished off with CDorner Chair mobility stretch 30 minutes, 49 calories. I have had several of my loop bands and bands be sticky and tearing and breaking. I need to get some new ones. Total time was 2 hr 5 minutes, 434 calories, and ended with 6,257 steps. I probably had around 600 less than that though as I forgot to check before starting. Tomorrow is rest day and Monday PT.
I got through the bone density scan and mammogram yesterday. She was careful of my shoulder. I usually takes a couple of days to hear back from my primary doctors office for results.
We had a big storm tonight and the rain poured with hail and a tornado warning as it went over us. I am going to have to make some adjustments with the shelter and work with my dog as she refused to go in there and it is somewhat intimidating with the car over the shelter. I need to move some things to be able to move the car farther forward. Plus I tripped over the back pack I thought I had put behind the steps and had to crawl back out to go inside and get the flashlight and my cell phone. By the time I finished messing with everything the storm had moved over us. Could hardly see it was pouring so hard.

Cathy, it is nice that your son is easy to fix meals for. I steam mopped and vacuumed Thursday night and my floors are all gritty and the dog has tracked in mud. I will be glad when they are done digging and stirring up dirt. I cant open windows till they get done with the houses behind us. They are working their way to right behind our fence and keep driving their backhoes and trucks up here to unload building materials. Is in the Ring a Cathe workout? I kind of remember someone did it besides the older In the Ring that I have that Amy Bento did years ago. Speaking of Whole Foods, I got a text from Amazon about some green beans from a brand with Hippie in the name that I purchased and warning in may have listeria and bacteria in it and gave a rundown of what happens if consumed. I told my husband I have purchased that brand a couple of times and it was quite some time ago and they were fresh bagged green beans. I ate them and if I still had them my refrigerator would probably stink.
It seems every time I have a phone update or Garmin update I have things not working correctly. Last time it started reading like I was not doing much of anything, I had to adjust some settings and let it track V02 , and some other readings all of the time. Somewhere I read that. So today when it was doing it again I went back through settings trying to remember what I did before. Anyway after it said it found my Garmin, I started getting a heart rate that looked correct.

Carolyn, nice that you got to shop the farmers market. Fresh eggs are so much better. Great job with Cardio Quick Fix. I hope they figure out what your reaction is caused from. I have heard a lot of side affects from BP meds. I have the Lovastatin and would have kept up with it, but it caused problems. I have finally got a handle on my BP and test morning and evening. Hopefully I do not need them again. Having a severe Dermatitis can be terribly miserable. Hopefully the meds they sent you home will help get it cleared up.

Valerie, I understand the want to have your camper with you when visiting. We used to take our fifth wheel and stop when we wanted and sleep with our own bedding and get up when we want. When we visited my Dad there was a donation place to park the fifth wheel in their city and we would stay there. We miss it sometimes. Plus the fifth wheel was always stocked with some canned goods and all the towels and dishes and things were ready. Even workout equipment was already there.
