Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/8

Valerie, safe travels. We have one case of the virus in Tulsa. I have thought about how often produce and products are handled in the grocery store lately. I normally rinse cans and all produce though. I was particularly careful when the Whole Foods delivery came. I rewrapped the deli turkey and that sort of thing and washed things probably more than I normally do. Sorry the snow is not good.

Hi Everyone,

Monday I did RapidFire 3, Kickbox, Strength & Core. Yesterday I did Live #184, PHA 3 and today I did a 45 minute Peloton ride.

We have 2 cases of Covid 19 in the Detroit area now. I am concerned about working at HD during this time. I talked to the HR person about taking off 2 weeks unpaid, which is what HD is offering to employees who are concerned about the virus but are not ill or who haven't been exposed to it. I'm not sure if I should take that time right away or wait to see if things get worse. I thought about just quitting but I really don't want to quit over this.

Deb-How did you like PHA 2020? I really liked Live PHA3.

Carolyn-thinking of you and your family. I hope you are all doing well.

Valerie-Hope you have a good trip back.

Diane Sue-Nice job with WS3! How do you like it so far?

Take care and stay safe,

Judy

This morning I did Walk Strong 3 Lower Body 31 minutes, heart rate 93/120, 61 calories, 621 steps. I then did WS3 Boogie it, 30 minutes, heart rate 122/160, 146 calories, 2,929 steps and WS3 Barefoot Cardio Core, 32 minutes, heart rate 112/140, 136 calories, 2,296 calories. Total time 93 minutes, 5,846 steps 343 calories.
I was on the fence about doing the Bookie workout since I had read a reviewer on Amazon that said they did not like it much and then when I started she said it has agility drills in it. I liked it and I generally do not care for agility work like Cathe and Beach Body has had. It was not hard complicated agility work. Just some switching turns and stuff that you had to think a bit about. I thought the weight work would have been more calories than that since it does have a little cardio based movement in it and uses the small step platform with risers or not using one. I used it with 1 riser after starting with 2 on the warm up and decided when I previewed I should probably go lower if I wanted to use heavier weights. With Barefoot Core they use a playground ball. I used a 5 lb soft med ball for some of it when they are not doing overhead moves.
Lower Body
Suggests 3 sets of dumbbells light, medium, heavy just like upper depending on fitness level. I used 15# dbs throughout on weight moves. They have a modifier doing it without the step, Jessica, and another doing the more intense version
group 1
squat off side of step ,lunge back off step, then squat and lunge alternating 15# dbs I believe each is around 16 reps
single leg deadlift 15's
break is standing hamstring curl and hip lifts all on right then all on left then alternating both
repeat all moves on the other side
Group 2
goblet squat 16 reps 15# db (could have went heavier but worried about tension on my shoulder)
side lunge/ lateral leg lift 1 dumbbell 15# 8 reps right and 8 left
break is speed skate 8 on each side
repeat all on other side
Group 3
balance on 1 foot toe tap off to side of step not touching down 15# dbs 16 reps
plie on toes weights on thighs move to standing repeat 15# dbs 16 reps
repeat on other side
Group 4 floor mat
bridge lift walk out on heels and back 3 or 4 times
star side plank lifting 1 arm up and raising leg and hip
repeat on other side

Judy, I think this has not really gotten much worse than h1n1, but still has it's concerns. I am hoping since they mentioned the warmer months coming up may halt it, that the cases will drop off. I can see your concerns. I would keep hand sanitizer with me and avoid face touching when at work. I am sure you probably already do that though.

We are more than half way back. With the first 30 miles being pretty icy and scary. All ok after. But then a long boring drive.
WA is closing schools and campuses and a lot of restaurants and any events with 250 people or more so concerts, other events. Virus is pretty widely spread. It is pretty dramatic We are unlucky to be the first place and others can learn from mistakes here.

Made it back about 6:45 last night. everything is locked down here. the last part of the drive is usually nightmarishly jammed up but with companies having as many people as possible work online, it decreased the traffic dramatically. schools are closed thru april. there is no reason to be foolish here when the virus is probably WAY more widespread than we can tell because there is little testing available. Maybe you will get lucky and it will be contained where you live. I had to be back here for some medical appts but I'm thinking carefully about cancelling one of them. its just an annual eye check and I am not having issues so could reschedule. the other is a mammogram that I will keep. we usually go out with cousin and his wife for my upcoming birthday but probably wont. many restaurants are closing for the short term too. along with all manner of concerts, and sports event.
its another time I am happy we have our gym equipment and can work out here. no way would I go to a public gym right now. the economic fallout from this will be tremendous. so many small businesses will be lost.

This morning I did Hard Strikes, no Conditioning premix and Bonus Core #1. That was 46 minutes and 308 calories burned. My average heart rate was 131 and maximum heart rate was 156.

I had to buy food this morning and the checkout lines were unbelievable! I can only imagine how they will look at the end of the workday. People are in full panic buying mode.

Valerie, Covid 19 is in our community too. Number of identified cases continues to grow daily. Most school districts have closed already, or will be closed starting Monday. The same is true for colleges and universities. This is a very serious virus and I am fearful that some have not realized that yet.

Diane Sue, I’m glad that you are enjoying WS3. I think it’s worth the price. Boogie I.T. is probably my least favorite, but I don’t dislike it.

Hello to Judy and Deb.

Today I did Walk Strong 3 Cardio Interval Sculpt using 5 and 8 # dumbbells, 93 calories, 32 minutes, 99/135 heart rate, 1,198 steps. This was a bit much for my shoulder today. Too much overhead stuff and the floor stuff was rough. That will have to wait awhile for doing again. I Then did Walk on fast fat blasts ( a free workout I think) 84 calories, 15 minutes, heart rate 129/152, 1,646 steps. I followed this with the WS3 add on abs, 16 minutes, heart rate 85/102, 19 calories, 99 steps and finished with WS3 yoga stretch stopping after the standing portion, 18 minutes, 22 calories, 68 steps, heart rate 86/104. Total time was 81 minutes, 218 calories, 2,844 steps.
I have not purchased Walk Strong 3 yet. A friend loaned me hers for a couple of weeks. I will probably purchase soon though. I think it would be a good addition to what I have. I liked the upper and lower strength workouts a lot. Everything I have done is good other than I need to watch the shoulders in the one I did today.
I ordered groceries delivered from Walmart last night. They are supposed to arrive today. It seems most items were available. I guess I will know for sure when they arrive. I ordered Aquafina Water Packs and they showed available. There were a few unavailable things like regular Spam. Yes, I buy Spam for my husband, but the smoke flavored was available. Maybe most people know there are different flavors?? There are just some things you cannot buy at Whole Foods and Sprouts. Our usual Cottonelle toilet paper was not available. I had to make a different choice. I am just buying what we need and not hoarding. I ran out of bottles of water last night. I drink so much water and the only way I drink the water from the refrigerator is in coffee and tea drinks. It is filtered, but still does not taste right. I also buy alkaline water to keep in the refrigerator upstairs in my workout room.

Valerie, stay safe. I thought about Gyms and germs and how bad a place that would be to go to with a virus like this floating around. I heard some schools here are closed today and next week is spring break for most so that gives some time away from the school crowd. I have had emails from everything warning about the virus. Since I have been pretty isolated over the last week, I don't even know what it is like at the stores etc. at this point. I will go out Wednesday to my eye appointment to get the stitches out. If other countries had not waited so long to get serious about the virus we would all be better off.

Carolyn, I am hoping to go do my own shopping later next week. We will see how bad it gets. I do like the Walk Strong 3 workouts. As stated above I have not purchased yet.

Judy, I am liking WS3 so far.

I was expecting a grocery delivery from Walmart and at first it showed they were preparing it, then suddenly it said it was cancelled!! My husband called the store and they just gave him a number saying they did not know why. He called the number and after a long wait they told him that they were getting a lot of calls about cancellations and said it was because of the Covid virus. So, I just ordered again for pick up. Some of my items are no longer available. The bread wasn't available and the only bread I could find was Pepperidge Farm country white for my husband's sandwiches. Pork and Beans were gone.

I did a 35 min spin premix and four sets of knee pushups for total of 100. didnt feel like doing anything but did anyway. I broke up the spin with the pushups.

I didn’t go anywhere today. Sick of driving. My neighbor said grocery store was insanely busy. Great, didn't need to hear that. I will go probably Sunday. We are pretty well supplied but will need some fruit by then. I like raspberries and blueberries and they don’t keep well. I would not want to work in a grocery store right now, it must be crazy! i also am buying what I need and not hoarding. I have a reasonable supply of sanitizer and wipes, Kleenex and TP, but I had it all before this whole thing took off.

This morning I did Total Body Giant Sets for 52 minutes and 235 calories burned. My average heart rate was 115 and maximum heart rate was 148.

Church services have been suspended through the end of the month. The same is true for the court house where my husband works. We are practicing “social distancing“ and only going out when necessary.

Valerie, I don’t hoard either, but I try to keep a good supply of basic products. I’m very glad that I do since the stores are out of many of those things.

Diane Sue, I hope that you were able to get the grocery items that you wanted the second time around. There isn’t an actual shortage here, but people are buying in such quantities that the stores can’t keep up. The checkout lines are so long!

Hello to Judy and Deb. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Carolyn we are of the same mind. I don't like to buy basics every other week, so buy bigger quantity twice a year. mostly the things people are hoarding now. like TP, Kleenex, sanitizer, wipes. I have plenty. I ended up grocery shopping this morning because we needed to get some garden supplies and the grocery is close by. it was normally busy, and I got all I needed. TP, paper towels, Kleenex were out. even salt was low supply. restaurants are closing and folding, so I guess people who eat out half the time realize they need food. I walked right up to the checkout but Saturday morning is not a busy time around here anymore, like it used to be when I was a kid.
Diane sue hope you got what you need. hope your eyes are healing well. Spam?? one of those foods that's become a joke. I know its really popular in Hawaii but I never could stand it. my father loved it , maybe from his service time in the pacific. he would eat blood sausage too, and if you've never seen that you would be stunned anyone would eat it. my SIL and BIL always bring a can of spam with them and make white bread, mayo and raw spam sandwiches just to try to make me gag.

Today I did some more Walk Strong 3 workouts. Not many calories though, but much more work than one would think. I did Tone and Flow which I really liked as it kept moving, I used 5# dumbbells, 32 minutes, heart rate 86/124, 74 calories, 1,049 steps. I followed with Barre Sculpt and was really surprised at how different it was since she incorporates dumbbells (I used 5#) and a play ball or pilates ball, heart rate 90/126, 31 minutes, 62 calories, 787 steps. I finished off with the floor portion of Yoga Stretch, 13 minutes, 14 calories, 82/99 heart rate and the 15 minute Total stretch which I added a bit to so was 18 minutes, 75/85 heart rate, 17 calories, 19 steps. Total time today was 94 minutes, 169 calories, 1,869 steps.
I won't know about my order till my husband is able to go get it between 5 and 6. He is working nights and that was the earliest delivery I could get today. I was trying to do the delivery so that he didn't have to get up and run an errand before he goes to work.
I keep getting e mails from the grocery stores that I shop at about what they are doing through the Covid19 crisis. It seems they all having staff stay home if they are sick at all and with pay and upping cleaning counters and frequently touched areas even more. Sprouts always has employees cleaning stuff anyway though.

Valerie, I usually go to the store a couple of times a week for fresh produce. I don't want to buy stuff and have it spoil before I use it. My mother used to make Spam and eggs a lot. I liked it when I was a kid. It is way to salty. Even the lower sodium one. The blood sausage reminds me of my dad liking pickled pigs feet. It was so disgusting. I used to try to set something in front of it on the table so I did not have to look at it. I have gotten to particular about what is in my food. Processed meat products are generally the parts of the meat that no one would really want, with fillers and flavoring to make it sell. It is Icky!!
I am healing gradually, but I sure wish the redness and bruising would dissipate faster. I told my daughter that I was surprised they wanted to wait 2 weeks to remove the stitches. From what I read they usually do it in 5-7 days. My daughter says that is what she does with her patients, but she guesses they must have a reason. I probably should have went to one of the doctors that she know their work. But, once I went to this one, following what I had read was Medicare guidlines, and they were setting up an appointment to do it, I just went for it rather than go to another doctor that was not so close to go through everything again.

Carolyn, I hope since they are taking precautions that the virus will slow down it's progress. I never buy in bulk because I do not have a place to put it. Even when I purchase for family dinners, some items have to stack on top of the refrigerator because they do not fit in my cabinets. Same for t paper. I buy a 12 roll pack and disperse between the 3 bathrooms. That is it.

My biggest worry is all of this hoarding frenzy will make it difficult when some of us really need something. You would think there was a famine coming. Oh, and price gouging is really annoying too. I thought Amazon said they were going to watch their 3rd party sellers and make sure it does not happen. I looked at Kraft Macaroni and Cheese this morning and Amazon was the seller, it was 19.95 for 5 boxes. THat is ridiculous. About 3 times as much as if I went to Dollar General per box. They also took their discount off of groceries on my ibotta app.

Carolyn...This is the first time I have checked in - in months and saw your post. I am sending hugs and prayers to you and your daughter.

I think about you ladies frequently and will get back to our group at some point. My life has been a roller coaster. Almost immediately after my most dearest friend past suddenly in October, Bob developed heart issues. My friend died of a ruptured aorta, so Bob having any kind of heart issue has been very hard on me. Yesterday he had a Cardiac Cath and he meets with his cardiologist on Tuesday for the next steps.

I am still exercising, but not as much as I should. If I get 4 days a week then it is a great week.

I miss you all!

Lori, so good to hear from you again. I will be praying for you and Bob. You really have had a lot going on in your life. Miss seeing you here.

Lori, it's really good to hear from you. We miss having you here. You and Bob are in my thoughts and prayers.

Lori good to hear from you!. so sorry bob is having problems. so many good and amazing things are done now with cardiac issues... its such a well researched problem area that it gets a lot of attention. hope all goes well for him. check back in and let us know how you are both doing.

I forgot about pigs feet. I worked my way thru college as a grocery clerk. saw lots of things I'd never eat. pigs feet were right up there. spam. "lunch meat". got stuck with it a lot of the time. Never ate any of it again after I had other options.
I buy paper products, cleaning products in big packages so I don't need to buy every little while. One Costco bale of TP, paper towels, Kleenex will last a year. I have shelving in the garage and it stacks up there. easy to see when running low. I would not go out and buy a lifetimes worth right now. I bought a bundle of sanitizer wipers a few years ago. we still have plenty. too bad about the price gouging. I could hardly believe how low the store was on plain old table salt. it seems a lot of people don't eat at home and are afraid all restaurants will close down
