Good morning,

No workout except for agility class. I purchased a knee brace and started wearing it Friday and yesterday. The instructions say to start with 4 hours a day, preferably while doing some activity. I wore it with my running shoes ( ones I have had for a while) and it seemed to help, as I did not feel pain in my hip while running.

Diane Sue, that is some nasty weather. We got about an inch or 2 of slushy, freezing snow last night. They said it would be the end today.

Valerie, Happy Birthday! thanks for the link for the inserts. I will wait until I see if I will be getting the HOKA shoes. However, they may be good for my existing cross trainers, that I previously wore in agility class..mmmm...may have to think on that. I need to go over to the site and see how to pick the right color. The shoe store supposedly sent me my foot scan results, but I when I open the document, there is nothing there. Yay for finally being able to go to MT. :)

Carolyn, good that you listened to your body and took the rest day.

Hi to Judy & Lori

Take care,

It looks like the store I went to for the running shoes is one of the local stores that sells the Superfeet inserts. They asked if I wanted inserts when I was there but at the time, I was really interested in what they had for new shoes. Maybe I will ask them which ones I should get when I go to try on the shoes.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday my legs were really sore and my left knee was bothering me a lot. I think it was from the X10 premix I did last week. All the impact, especially the tuck jumps, might have been a little too much. I ended up doing Yin Yoga last night and my legs are feeling much better this morning. I'll probably stay away from high impact workouts for a couple of weeks or so.

Deb-That's good that you got a knee brace. I hope it helps. That sounds like a good Hoka to try too. All of them seem to be pretty good.

Diane Sue-We had rain all day yesterday and about an inch of snow last night. It's in the 20's now. Hopefully it will warm up by the middle of the week.

Valerie-Happy Birthday! Awesome that you finally get to go to Montana!

Hi to Carolyn & Lori!

Judy

Good afternoon ladies,

Thursday was SB tabata. This was a 40 min tabata barre workout. That was my only workout. Chelsie was not able to come over. Friday morning I did not workout, but did a 40 min bounce at lunch. Saturday was very nice here. Decided on a short workout - did the second half of Live lower body barre and weights. Then took GiGi for a nice 3 mile walk. We both enjoyed it. Today I kept it short again. Did Bounce Express by Linda Woolridge and took GiGi for another walk. Got home right before the rain came. Glad we went early. :)

Deb...makes complete sense to have good foot wear or inserts. This may help you a great deal in addition to the knee brace.

Diane Sue...Happy Anniversary! Your meal sounds delicious. I really am enjoying making my own sauces and spreads. Funny about the dog hair. GiGi is a chocolate lab and does shed, but not too bad. I know I need to vacuum when it looks like we have brillo pads in the corners! Being tired and you still managed a great workout. I love when I am tired and yet still manage a great one.

Valerie...great all good with your screenings. Well that certainly stinks a good chunk of the road was out and all closed. Happy Belated Birthday!!!

Judy....great job on those steps. I do not like tuck jumps at all. I do a few then quickly change to a lower jump or sometimes hop on my rebounder to finish. Hope your knee feels better soon.

Carolyn...hope you enjoyed your rest day. Well deserved.

Have a great afternoon! I have a chicken in the instant pot for lunch. I love I can throw a 6lb frozen chicken in and be done in less than an hour.

Today I did One Mile of Motivation from the WS3 program for 15 minutes. After that I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga for 29 minutes. I did the Evening practice which gives a nice total body stretch. It’s amazing how much better my body feels after some type of flexibility workout. I could tell that I have been skipping the longer stretching.

Deb, great idea to add a knee brace. I’m sure it will help when you are running around for agility training. It really makes a difference for me when I do cardio.

Judy, Yin Yoga probably felt really good on your lower body. I try to limit high impact moves for the same reason. I do a small amount of jumping, but I modify most things to low impact.

Lori, it sounds like you had a good workout week with rest days included. Walking outside with Gigi must have been nice. The frozen whole chicken is a great timesaver. Homemade sauces, dressings and spreads are wonderful. They are so easy to do and they add a lot of flavor to simple foods.

Diane Sue, great workout yesterday with Cardio Party, Body Design Kickboxing, Build and Burn Kickboxing, and LiTE Stretch.

Valerie, I hope you are having a good trip to Montana. I’m glad that you are finally able to go. I agree that it’s time for a rest day when the workout feels like a chore.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Hello everyone... we did a mt bike this morning, an hour and 20 min at the tree farm. I am so pleased... what was once a hard uphill battle is now "no biggie". we went up in 40 min and took a longer way around to come down. it was a lovely morning. usually we don't see anyone . only vehicles in the parking area. its supported by the horse back riding community to a big degree, and as things dry out and trails open up, they are more evident. we go out of our way to be good thoughtful trail users, because unfortunately, a lot of mt bikers are arrogant little careless punks speeding down trails like they are the only person in the world. yes, you heard it first here!! it can spook horses and cause big problems. it's such good exercise and a way to make low elevation roads, trails and forests a lot more fun. we do this a lot in MT too when the high country is still hard to get to.
Deb the only suggestion I have is change things one at a time. if something helps/ doesn't help, its hard to sort out if you changed shoes, added inserts and a knee brace all at once. hard to tell what was a good or bad factor. when you change how your foot contacts the ground, it will affect everything "uphill" from that. I hope you are on the way to improvement finally!! maybe the store personnel can help with the superfeet choices. they will revive your older shoes.

we will leave in the morning. we could have left today but this works better with expected weather. I am taking DVDs along for crummy weather when we get some. I'll be checking in while we're there.

This morning I did Raw Foam roller stretch. It has been mostly a relax day other than church and the grocery store.

Debbie, I hope that the knee brace helps. I have some compression sleeves for my knees that I used to use. I have not used them in a long time. The brace is probably better. There was more storms Friday, but we just got the rain. My daughter that lives on the 15 acres got huge hail. They have to have the insurance out as their roof is torn up, the pool cover broken, and damage to the solar lights that my son in law had just put into the posts on his new deck he put up. I guess the cows got under trees and were okay.

Judy, high impact workouts do that to me sometimes. I really do need to pull away from them more than I do. Yin yoga is a good choice. No snow here. It was 30 when I got up this morning but, warmed up some and the sun came out.

Lori, nice workout choices. I bet Gigi loved the walk. Normally I do not notice Gertie shedding that much except around spring and if I keep her brushed well it lets up after a couple of weeks. Although she had that hair loss thing I took her to the vet and her put her on antibiotics. So, that might be why I am noticing it so much more. Her hair is grown back in the bare spots. The vet sent me home with some paper to read just in case it happens again next spring. Seasonal alopecia. It happens when they do not get enough sun during the winter months. I really do not think that was it though.
I cooked steak in my instant pot yesterday. I was looking at some yummy looking recipes on Pinterest last night.

Carolyn, nice workout. I find I really need the stretches. Today's foam roller stretch really helped my stiff achy joints this morning. I like how Kelly starts from the feet and works up and does some mobility stuff before going to the floor and then finishes off with a bit of mobility movement. I wish she spent a bit more time on the quad area though.

Valerie, nice that you are finally able to get to MT. That is great that the uphill is so much easier for you now. It feels good when we see our improvements. Have a safe trip.

Good morning,

Today I did LiTe PHA2, 51 minutes, 314 calories.

Judy, good decision on the high impact workouts.

Lori, great workouts and nice that it has been good weather to take Gigi for a walk. I bet she was happy.

Carolyn, that's great that the stretch helped you. Yes, I think the knee brace, and the shoe change to running shoes instead of cross trainers has helped.

Valerie, Have a safe trip! great that you were able to complete that trail and that it was a pleasant ride. I sometimes wonder what gets into people who have no thought for others that are using a trail etc.

Diane Sue, the "brace" I have is actually a compression sleeve. I have a regular knee brace that is so bulky, you can't wear it under any jeans or even workout pants. It also slips around a lot and is very annoying. That's horrible about the damage at your daughter's house. Even with insurance coverage, the time to get it and have things fixed is so frustrating.

Take care,

This morning I did Fit Split Low Impact timesaver #1, 27 minutes, 180 calories, heart rate average 124, max 157, 1895 steps, met 8.5. I then did Lite Strong Body Stacked Sets: Lower Body, 39 actual minutes (48 me) 1,100 steps, 202 calories, met 6.0, 102 average heart rate max 140, met 6.0. I also did Kelly's Raw 6 & 60 core, 12 minutes, 42 calories, 28 steps, met 5.0 and Raw foam roller stretch, 24 minutes, 46 calories, 124 steps.
Total time was 1 hour 43 minutes, 470 calories, 3,147 steps.
I used slightly heavier weights than Cathe
Stacked Lower Body
barbell squats 30# 32 reps
alternating cross tap lunges 10# dbs 12 reps
barbell plie squats 30# 32 reps
alternating rear lunge with 2/2 deadlift 12# dbs 10 reps
side to side and pivoting squats 15# db 8 reps
repeat sequence same weights used
static lunges 12# dbs 32 reps
wide squat to side lunge 10# dbs 12 reps
wide stance deadlift 35# barbell 10 reps
forward and diagonal lunge combo 10# dbs 24 reps
crossback/side lunge combo 12#db 12 reps
repeat sequence same weights

Deb, when I got my compression sleeves I did research and lots of cross fitters used the ones I purchased and liked them. They do not slip around. That is odd that they do on you. How are they supposed to be compression if they move?. Mine are Rehband brand. My daughter is a little worried about the insurance deductable cost. She said she remembers them saying something about some extra added cost and this is the third time they have had to replace the roof.

This morning I did Total Body Circuit from Chris Freytag’s 10 Day Slimdown Xtreme set. It’s been over 5 years since I last did these workouts. My time was 48 minutes (workout is actually 40 minutes), with 280 calories burned. My average heart rate was 121 and maximum heart rate was 145.

Deb, great job with LiTE PHA 2 today. Just getting started again after a break from workouts can be the hardest part.

Diane Sue, great workout as usual today.

Hello to Lori, Valerie, and Judy.

Diane Sue, the one that slipped around was the old type wrap around one with the hole for your knee cap and Velcro. The compression one I have now is great, does not move around at all. It is from a company called "Back on Track". I first heard of them when we suspected that Keegan had an injury, or muscle issue. We got a coat type for him to keep his muscles warm before going into the ring at an agility trial. They have things for dogs, horses, people etc...see below:

Deb, thanks for the link. I will hang on to it in case I need anything. I am glad that they fit well. Your old ones sound like my Freezie Wrap device I use for cold on my knees. They wrap around the knee and are shaped to fit over the knee. I purchased them when I had the knee surgery. I keep them in the refrigerator in my workout room so if I need to ice my knee, I just pull it out. I only have one with a couple of chill inserts, so if both knees need cold I have to wear it on one for awhile and then on the other. No matter how tight I put it on it does not stay in place well. I guess they don't expect me to walk around with it on though LOL

Good morning,

Today I did Lite Cardio Party, 40 minutes, 254 calories.

Carolyn, good job on those workouts! What did you think after not doing them for 5 years? still like them? better or worse than before? It always strikes me as funny when I pick up a workout after not doing it for a long time and I either don't like it any more, or find I actually like it a lot better than I remembered.

Diane Sue, those freezy wrap things could come in handy when you need to quickly ice something. I can see how you would not be able to move around much when they are on though,

Hi to Lori, Judy & Valerie.

Take care,

Today I did 10 Day Slimdown Xtreme Cardio Kickboxing for 40 minutes and 311 calories burned. My average heart rate was 133 and maximum heart rate was 168. I am following the rotation that came with the program for now. I’m sure that I will add in other cardio workouts.

Deb, great job with Cardio Party. I am enjoying revisiting the 10 Day Slimdown workouts. I liked them when I first got them, but I moved on to other workouts and didn’t think about them again. Chris Freytag is a great fan of circuit workouts with a short cardio segment following each round of strength training. It’s a nice change.

Hello to Diane Sue, Lori, Judy, and Valerie.

Today I did Coffey Fit Raw Boxing and Drills wearing 1.5 # gloves. This is one of my favorites. This was 29 minutes, heart rate average 133, max 151, met 7.2, 191 calories, 2,732 steps. I then did Lite Rev'd Up Rumble, 42 minutes, 283 calories, heart rate average 133, max 158, met 8.0, 3,629 . I finished off with Lite extended stretch #1, 13 minutes, 34 calories, 11 steps. Total time was 72 minutes, calories 508, 84 minutes. My calories were lower on these workouts today than they usually are. Oh, well! I wore weighted gloves for both.
I am picking up grandchildren today and hoping to get Gertie a bath and the bath cleaned before I go out.

Carolyn, were the workouts you are doing in a set? I missed your post yesterday, nice work.

Deb, if I remember right I paid a lot for those Freezie Wraps, but that have been nice to use. I ordered them online when reading about torn miniscus rehab. I really like Cardio Party a lot. I keep doing it and am repeating the same cardio workouts a lot. I thought today that maybe I should be sure I am not getting in a rut. I am sure I will get bored eventually though :)

good morning! we made the drive yesterday. weekends are better, less traffic than on a workday. 11 1/2 hours. actually 12 because we left, realized we'd forgotten something, went back and turned off the water. added a half hour. if we'd been further we would have let it go, but we were still close enough so for peace of mind, we returned. so tired and wired when we get here!. there must have been some heavy rain recently, some gravel was washed out of roads edges and one section of our driveway. something we can fix ourselves. we usually acclimate to altitude for a day, take stock and do grocery shopping.
this morning elk all around, and mule deer. its great our house doesn't disturb them, but also a reason we did not add plants to landscaping. they are grazing. we potentially have bears and wolves too, but harder to see. the elk, deer are 20 feet away. DH said closer earlier, but I slept thru it.
today will be a rest and recover day, fix the driveway when it warms up. we brought old mt bikes to leave here. an indulgence! we can avoid carrying back and forth. there's a lovely road ride in northern Idaho we do every year to break up the drive. can't carry 4 bikes at once! most "4 bike" racks are jammed. may work for 2 adults 2 kid bikes but for 4 adult bikes, especially mt bikes, its difficult. the Trail of the Coeur d'alenes its lovely and easy and uncrowded. lots of wildlife.

Deb good to hear you can get back to workouts. DH has a brace with the knee cap hole. he doesn't use it all the time but it helps if his knee bothers him. sitting and driving all day is hard on knees too. you would not think it is, but its uncomfortable. I cant get that style of brace on at all.
Diane sue that is terrible about the roof. is there a better or different material they can use to replace the existing one? you're right insurance might balk at covering it

Diane Sue, yes the workouts are from a set. It’s the 10 Pound Slimdown Xtreme with Chris Freytag, an old set from 2011. It includes Upper, Lower, Core and Total Body Circuits, Cardio Kickboxing, and Yoga that are all 40 minutes. There are 20 minute circuits and yoga that she calls recovery workouts, plus Bonus Abs and Bonus Buns that are 10 minutes each. I did the rotation in 2013 and 2014, but have only done the 20 minute yoga a few times since then.

Valerie, I’m glad that you made it to Montana. It sounds like you are excited to be there. Enjoy!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a Peloton ride and today I did Core Max 1, the warmup from 4 DS Kickbox and LiTe PHA 2.
My knee/legs feel much better today. I don't think I will be doing tuck jumps again anytime soon.

Deb-Great job with your workouts this week. I previewed Cardio Party today and think I will try it next week. It's the only LiTe workout I haven't done yet.

Carolyn-Great job with the 10 Pound Slimdown Xtreme workouts. I've never seen those before but I do like Chris Freytag so I will have to look into them.

Diane Sue-I'm sorry about your daughter's roof and the other storm damage they had. That is rough. Nice workouts today!

Valerie-Nice that you made it to Montana! I hope you have a wonderful time and great weather!

Lori-I hope you are having a good week!

Judy

Judy, I do a modified tuck jump like Cathe uses in Cardio Slam. It saves my knees. I’m not sure if the Slimdown workout is still available, but it’s a good one to have.

I tried stacked upper body today. I have a old small step (weider) that definitely did not work. it is small, short and narrow. it is unstable if you try to lean on the end or side for dips or pushups. cant lie on it, either . too narrow, and too short. what a waste. my in laws gave it to me long ago and I never could do stepping on it, but thought maybe these lesser uses would be OK. definitely not. No. I will buy another step though I dont need extra risers. we don't have any kind of bench here, so the best way for me to get something to raise me off the floor a little. also snapped a TheraBand on the second pull. I worked around several other moves. did not work like I thought it would. I did the workout but weights were too light too. I have 5, 8, 10 lbs here.

If you pay to stream Hulu, I suggest "The Looming Tower". it is one of the best pieces of work I have ever seen. its a preview of what happened up to and including 9/11. it is just outstanding!! some real footage and dialogue. we are watching it for the second time. I understand there is a second season but not available yet. we keep saying we will drop Hulu but haven't.

I do not do tuck jumps. I can't get my feet up and back down fast enough and I don't want to misstep on a landing. definitely would modify.
