Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/27

we went xc skiing this morning at the place we went to tuesday when weather was crummy. It was lovely!. some fresh snow which was a good thing since it's on a road that doesn't have heavy snow cover any more. a few spots we had to walk the skis, most was beautiful. its windy and some parts get blown clear, and sun melts out others. snow season for our kind of skiing is almost over here unless we drive to west side of the park. . we went for an hour and a half until we came to some very fresh bear tracks. VERY fresh. we went a few yards further to a nice spot and turned around there. probably was a grizzly but not certain and that was about the turn around time anyway. so 3 hours total skiing. we took our neighbor along and she brought her dog. dogs and bears are not a good mix.

well I am (for sure!) low maintenance hair. I get trimmed and blow dry every few months, takes half an hour-1 hour. that time is a bigger consideration with covid and the drive time plus actual hair time involved.

it was a lovely fun morning. we have some old skis here but they worked fine. we take our boots back and forth. I got a new down sweater for my birthday that I wore today. it was 19 degrees to start, and will warm up to almost 50 .

diane sue how was the anniversary trip? I agree it sounds like you are doing very well with workouts.

Today at PT we discussed my surgeon visit. My PT says they may say I do not need to continue as I am well on my way to healing. Or maybe just a day a week to check progress. He says I would continue to see improvements as I keep doing things. I may notice some things that are not quite there and can work on those. My shoulder and arm are a bit sore this afternoon. He had me switch an angle on my wall ladder climb. He said I tend to have my arm out away from me a bit and that may be why the one angle still bothers me. So, I leaned into it close to move arm straight up. Much more difficult for me that way.

Valerie, the anniversary trip was nice. We had a beautiful room with our own private patio and hot tub which looked out on the woods. They had 73 acres of land that had paths and mowed areas with occasional benches and even a picnic table that I saw out in some of the woods. We walked out to wear the small lake was and they had a bench at the top of the dam. No hallway noise and maids knocking on the door like a hotel would be. They had water and sodas in the refrigerator and chocolate covered strawberries. They did have a front room for anyone who would like to go do puzzles, pick out books or movies to take back to the room if you like. Lots of space in the room with sitting and dining area and huge bath and double tub. We did leave and go into the city once and bought dinner and some snacks, although they had a snack closet that you could go grab something if you wanted to. We ate the breakfast once. I enjoyed it as it was a fresh fruit smoothie, quiche, blueberry scone, and rosemary potatoes. My husband prefers fried eggs. The cook was great and insisted on making him eggs and bacon. We spent most of our time to ourselves.

I have always preferred doing my hair myself as salons tend to kick up my allergies and those shampoo bowls kill my neck. It is rare I go to a salon. I am glad my husband can cut my hair.

Carolyn, nice work with Perfect 30 Pump Lower Body and extended stretch. Last time I had my hair colored and cut was about 7 years ago and that was because I kept using a certain hair color that you brushed on and the color got darker every time I used it. My husband said he wanted the old me back and said go to the salon and get it fixed. They did color weaving so I could get it back to what I was doing before. It took awhile to get it right. I did not like the haircut they gave me. Never could figure out why I would end up going home to fix my hair before I went back out again. I have had two hairdressers in many years that did a great job. One tapered off and was doing nursing school. The other was a male and I just got where I could not look at any more new piercings and him and another male's comments back and forth. I was left alone with them once as the female left the salon and they were discussing porn over my head. I never went back. It was creepy.
There is the long wait getting hair done and colored.

Cathy, nice work with Meso 3 week 1. It would probably be smart to lower the weight a bit if form or anything is not quite right.

Judy, nice work with the Peloton ride.

I have gone thru a long list of people I used for my hair. when I was coloring it, it was more important. it's been over a year since I stopped and I'm happy with it. I ended up with a nice mix of silver and brown that is easy care low maintenance. I get it trimmed every few months now so as long as the person can operate a scissors, I am OK. I have gotten used to being the only one in the salon without tats or piercings but that's OK. I developed an allergy to nickel after having earrings for 35 years so cant wear them anymore, and other metal jewelry irritates my skin. booo humbug. stainless steel or plastic only. I am so-so about tats. its an awfully permanent fad that will eventually become passe and its hard to remove them. very hard. saw a lady at Lowes who had facial tats with an elaborate spider web design on her face around her eye. one of those very massive "bad judgement" decisions that eventually will haunt her. she wont be 20 forever.

Thursday was shopping. Yesterday, I just really wasn't feeling it, got a late start, almost opted to skip, but then did IMAX 3 combos because that's my go to short, fun cardio. Today was long. Meso 3 week 1 chest and back. I realized when I went to do incline flies, that I had shorted myself two pounds on the flat bench ones. Oops.

Nick has long messed with me just for fun, but he always tries something extra. This year he told me he got his belly button pierced, but refused to send me a picture. Sent one to his brother that is nothing but an ab shot of someone with a belly button and no sign of it being recent even though belly button piercings cause a lot of redness. LOL OTOH he really did dye his hair purple for the climbing competition on Sunday. School colors purple and white.

Carolyn I'm so glad my hair isn't high maintenance because I have no patience for doing anything with it. Since all I need is a trim occasionally I just learned to do it myself. Nice job with Perfect Pump lower body and stretch!

Valerie that sounds like a really tough hike, but I'm sure the views were amazing!

Judy nice job with the Peloton ride!

Diane Sue that sounds like a great workout combo you put together!

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Fit, cardio only premix. That was 34 minutes and 235 calories burned. My average heart rate was 129 and maximum heart rate was 154.

I have had the same hair stylist for almost 30 years. She had just opened her own salon and her nephew was one of my therapy students. It was around the corner from one of my schools and the Principal was going there. I love her and she is a friend as well as my stylist. I stopped using chemical relaxer and hair color on my hair when I had breast cancer, but she can still make it look great. I check in with her periodically, but haven’t felt the need to go to the salon.

Diane Sue, your anniversary trip sounds wonderful. I would love that Bed and Breakfast. We stayed at one on one of our trips, but it was small and not nearly that luxurious. My hair salon is completely opposite of the one that you described. She is a religious person and the stylists who work there respect that. It’s a very relaxing atmosphere.

Valerie, I developed an allergy to the metal in my earrings and had to stop wearing them. It didn’t matter if they were gold or less expensive earrings, I could only wear them for about an hour before my ears would start to itch. I get a rash if I wear them continuously. I miss really them.

Cathy, great job with the IMAX 3 combos and Meso 3 chest and back.

Hello to Judy. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Yesterday I did a 30 minute Peloton ride after work. I got a lot of steps in at work today so I may take a rest day or do something short later tonight.

Carolyn-Great job with P30 Perfect Pump Lower Body and the Extended Stretch and the Cardio Fit premix. I've gone to the same salon since I moved here, 15 years ago. It's within walking distance and I usually go every 6-8 weeks. I did learn to color my own hair during the lockdowns in 2020 but I was ready to go back to the salon when everything opened up again.

Diane Sue-Great workouts yesterday!

Cathy-Great job with IMAX 3 and STS!

Hi to Valerie!

I used the same lady first at a salon and then at her home when she set up there, for quite a few years. then she retired and moved. since then I've used multiple people but have settled on one salon where everyone is fine. my hair is so simple it doesn't matter much. this is about 15 minutes away and small and pleasant. I used one person there for a couple years but she went on maternity leave so i tried several other women and everyone can trim one length hair so its fine. I colored my own hair for a bit but prefer someone else to do it, but now thats not an issue anymore. hair is so personal and nothing makes you feel worse than when it looks funny.

carolyn that sounds like my history. I had ears pierced when I was 15 or 16. wore all variety of earrings until I was about 50-55. I decided to get a second hole punched and that was the end of it. it healed but the itching was unbearable and happened with every kind of earring, wires or posts, cheap or expensive, even stainless. I had trouble with rings and watches too. tried coating them with a sealant but nothing helped. finally gave up and the holes are filled in.

did x train biceps triceps premix and abs today.

Today I did CDorner Dance workout -dynamite, 58 minutes, heart rate 122/159, 253 calories, 5,118 steps. I then did Coffey Fit Raw 5-day strength day 5 stretch with a couple of skipped or modified stretches and skipping lower body foam roller, 31 minutes, heart rate 83/107, 57 calories, 24 steps Total time was 89 minutes, calories burned 310, 5,142 step:)
Lots of cleaning and catch-up work inside and out around here today. Now I am exhausted. (in a good way) I spent some time this morning watching bits of some of Kelly's newer workouts. I ordered her Cardio Fit dvd even though I know the workout is on Raw, I want the premixes and she does have hi/lo cardio alone, and kickboxing alone. I think I might be able to use those and the lighter weight mix in will be good when I am ready to get started on that.

Valerie, the only problem I have had with jewelry is cheap earring posts leaving green on my ears. Most of my jewelry is gold, white gold, and some silver. My husband likes gold. I am not picky on that myself. Cheaper jewelry, I don't have to worry about losing or keeping it in my purse when we travel rather than leave it in a hotel or something. I did not mind the piercing so much till it was off of lips, brows, nose, in multiples. But, the attitude got to be too much for me. At first the hairdresser seemed really nice. I could text him and he would get me in right away. He just seemed to be going down the wrong path or something. He got weirder as time went by. As far as tats, I mainly find that too many young people get carried away. So far none of my grandchildren have went the route of tats. At least as far as I can see. My son got one when he was young on his arm and later his ankle, but no one else. Yes, I have seen some that have tried to remove that tats and they end up with faded tats, but not completely removed. On the face is taking it too far I think. I cannot imagine being a wrinkled up old person with tats all over the face. To me it is such a waste of lots of money and the beauty of flawless skin.
My roots look almost silver white now. I waited a long time to color after surgery and could see really well. I kept trying to paint them with Madison Reed root touch up powder. That just helps it to blend a bit. I use that stuff on my eyebrows, particularly if I use a brow gel that is a bit too dark as I can use the yellowy color to tone down the dark. Hard to find good blonde shade eyebrow make up and mine are thin. The Nature tint hair color company I buy my hair color all of the time from emailed and said their prices were going up this month so I purchased two 6 box orders, which is discounted so they cost me about 9 dollars a box. At Sprouts it is usually 17.99 unless there is a sale. Sometimes I have been getting it a little less from Whole Foods. I got tired of Madison Reed and trying to make sure I ordered in time to get a box mailed and I did not want to do their subscription. Also at 25.00 + it was a lot. What I use is pretty mild and lots of botanicals and oils in it. Works well for me.

Cathy, those meso 3 workouts are really long. For some reason I had a lot of energy today. Generally I have been feeling fatigued in the mornings. Once I come home from PT I feel like I need a nap or something. Maybe it is because I am getting more rest lately. I bet your sons have fun teasing you like that. Sounds like something mine would do. Him and his son are big teases and jokesters. My son and I used to play pranks back and forth. One time he taped a real looking rubber snake under the lid to the washer. He laughed so hard when I opened the top and squealed. Even as an adult, one time he put a rubber band around the sprayer on the kitchen faucet. I didn't notice and turned the water on and was doused. Talk about a room full of him and grandchildren laughing. So, was the hair color wash out color?

Carolyn, nice work with Cardio Fit. I am anxious to get my dvd. I thought about trying it on the Raw channel, but I would have to spend time forwarding through weights and portions I could not do. I still love the premix options on dvds.
That is wonderful that you have a hairdresser that you know well and are comfortable with. I would enjoy chatting with someone that was religious. So that would be a plus for me. I hadn't thought about hair straightener and breast cancer, but I can see the problems with chemicals. This was the first time we have tried a bed and breakfast type place. I always thought it would be more of a room and sharing a bath which seemed more like going to one of the hotels in England when I was a kid. That did not sound fun as I remember standing outside of a bathroom as a kid waiting for some adult sitting in the bathroom with a newspaper that walked out later. Very unpleasant. This was totally different with double tub and walk in shower with double sinks in our suite. Also had extras like candles around the tub and they bought a bouquet of flowers with meals and on the tables for breakfast. Everything was beautiful and relaxed. The only time we saw anyone else was the gentleman that owned it and he was just around so if you needed anything he would get it for you. Other wise it was just breakfast and 3 other couples at their own tables.

Judy, nice work with the Peloton ride. I am sure you got so many steps in that a workout is not necessary.
