Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/15

Good morning,

Today I did LIVE Metabolic Conditioning, 41 minutes, 291 calories.

Just reported that there are 3 cases of the virus in our county. "Supposedly" someone that had tested positive rode a bus to here from Rochester. I don't know what to believe any longer. Our dog club has its April agility trial set for April, 17, 18 and 19 but we are not sure if it has to be cancelled. The club BOD is meeting later today to discuss it. As for hoarding, we buy paper products at B.J's, have done this for years. We get it there so John can have it for the office as well as home.

Judy, have you decided whether to take the 2 weeks without pay now, or wait? I really liked PHA 2020, at least the part I got through. There is a new Live one just done the other day, I think it's "Hooked on PHA" or something like that. I may do that one later in the week.

Diane Sue, I hope your eyes are healing quickly. Did that grocery order work out eventually?

Lori, great to hear from you . Sorry about your friend, prayers that all turns out well for Bob.

Carolyn, some churches are streaming services. I was kind of perplexed, not knowing how they would do that, and since a lot of people do not have streaming services.

Valerie, funny you mentioned pigs feet ( ugh) my grandfather used to eat calve's brains....and tongue. I could not even stay in the same room when he was eating that stuff.

Stay safe!

Deb

This morning I did WS3 One Mile of Motivation for 15 minutes and 109 calories burned. My average heart rate was 133 and maximum heart rate was 143. After that I did Element Yoga with Tamal Dodge, the Relaxation practice. That was 39 minutes and 60 calories burned. My average heart rate was 88; and maximum heart rate was 125.

Lori, it’s wonderful to hear from you. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers and I’m sorry about your husband’s heart condition. Sometimes it seems that life has a way of challenging us at every turn.

Deb, great job with Live Metabolic Conditioning. Our church streams services every Sunday for those who can’t attend in person. Today was only our Pastor, musician, and the technology crew in attendance.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Diane Sue.

Good morning.
Deb, my father and sister ate a plate of blood sausage for breakfast once... I must have been <12 years old but I never ever forgot what that looked like. OMG! I know people did not have the abundance of food we have these days, and it was probably sensible and reasonable to eat the whole animal but ….. no. I've always been a little fussy about food appearance and texture, and just walked away from those choices. I will eat fruits, vegetables and grains, thank you very much.

we have virus all over the place here, and its got such a long incubation period we expect there will be a lot more over the coming weeks. things are shutting down with everything being cancelled or jumped ahead by months. My main risk is shopping. I can be flexible with time. did groceries yesterday and it was normal for a Saturday and only out of the few main things everyone knows about.

Lori it was great to hear from you again. again, sorry about bob. hope its fixable or manageable. cardiac issues are incredibly well researched and tested. come back and let us know how he's doing.

Deb- It's been awful working at HD this past week. Today was a nightmare. HD isn't doing anything to help protect their employees. I've been so nervous about getting sick and I know there have been sick people shopping, not to mention employees coming to work sick. I don't think I can continue to work in this situation. I don't see it being resolved in 2 weeks so I'm afraid I will probably have to quit, unless I can take a longer term leave of absence. I guess I will try the 2 weeks and if things are not getting a lot better then I will just quit and look for another part time job when this is over.

This morning is generally my rest or just stretch day. I did Walk Strong 3 yoga + pilates, 33 minutes, 48 calories, 217 steps , 83/145 heart rate. This has a lot of core work in it. Its some of these remind me of her build balance and strength set that I have. My daughter and her family when on their Spring Break vacation. She texted yesterday and they had stopped in a hotel in Baton Rouge and had a place rented in Gulf Shores. They went to the grocery store and no beef, eggs, bacon so they ended up with ground turkey and cereal. They took a lot of snacks with them though and she had her husband buy toilet paper before they left just in case. He had to buy some unheard of brand, but did find toilet paper.

Deb, it seems crazy that so many things are being put on hold and shut down. Calf brains would be disgusting. I remember in High School I took an advanced foods class and we had to cook cow's tongue. It was so disgusting floating around in the liquid in the pot. I doubt anyone ate it. All of the girls were making faces and laughing at it.
Shopping did not go so well. I was missing half my order that was not in stock. I managed to find some kleenex that I ordered a pack of 8 thin boxes of from Amazon. It is supposed to arrive this week sometime. Hopefully they don't tell me they can't deliver it after all. I did not get toilet paper, water, or the large pack of lean ground beef that I had ordered. I can't believe I couldn't get honey. Hopefully when I get these stitches out this week I can put on some makeup and go in search of some things myself. That was my first time with Walmart Pick up. I just reordered the stuff that they didn't deliver and put it on pick up. They tried to sub mixed nuts for whole cashews and I told them I didn't want them. I was buying mainly for my husband for his lunch snacks. He does not like mixed nuts. I need to see if I can order a new filter for my refrigerator. This is a lousy time for that to decide it needs to be replaced.

Valerie, I am thinking when I can go shopping for myself, I will do better. I am not one of those people that need easy things out of a can to prepare a meal. I can improvise. Paper goods may be a problem. I figure when I go I will go early on a weekday and hand sanitize myself a lot. There are not as many people at the grocery stores early. I used to go to Sprouts at 7 when they opened before they put the one close to us because traffic was so bad in that area. There was hardly anyone in the store.

Carolyn, it is nice that your church can stream the service. Ours had church this morning. My husband said they had jugs of hand sanitizer at the door and had people use it on the way in and out. He had one of his guys call him and tell him he was sick, but still coming in to work tonight. My husband was unhappy because he called at the last minute and it was too late to try to find one of the other guys from another shift to work it. This is my husband's new job and he is supervising. I told him to not get too close and I hope the guy doesn't make them all sick with whatever he has. We still have a lot of flu cases right now.
I just listened to services from my old church in another city. They have a really nice app and while I have had to lay around with ice packs on my eyes I listened to some of the ladies meetings and the meetings from the ladies retreat that I had to miss this year because I had my grandson here and was taking him too and from school. Ladies from all over came to that and the speakers were great.

Judy, I am sorry HD is not taking it seriously enough. I think they should offer leave with pay. I know all of this is hard on employers, and workers. I bet even if you took off longer than that, they would take you back when they need help. They sound like they are usually not well staffed anyway.

I did a warm up and an ab workout. We were busy all day but didn’t do a real workout.
Judy we went to Lowe’s yesterday it was a zoo! Sunday and every contractor in the county was in there supplying up. I saw no wipes or santitzer stations anywhere whic surprised me. Is HD the same way? We came in thru the drive thru garage not main doors. Still seemed like no changes

We are having restaurants and bars closed now. I can avoid stores for several more days but we are up over 700 cases last I checked. A stretch of nice weather so will try to Xc ski today other than caution shopping this is pretty normal for us

This morning I did Low Impact Sweat for 46 minutes and 307 calories burned. My average heart rate was 132 and maximum heart rate was 166. My husband has a doctor’s appointment this afternoon. I called to make sure that they still want him to come in and they do.

Judy, it’s disappointing that the a Home Depot stores there aren’t practicing health guidelines for employees and customer. Protecting one group benefits the other. I haven’t been to one of those stores lately. When I went out Friday one grocery store had hand sanitizer next to the payment machine and another did not. Things are changing so quickly here all stores are stepping up their game.

Diane Sue, it must be very frustrating for you to not be able to take care of shopping yourself.

Hello to Valerie and Deb. Take care everyone.

Valerie-HD hasn't done anything to protect their employees. The only thing they had was sanitizer wipes for the carts so customers could use them, but they ran out of those early yesterday. I brought my own hand sanitizer and gloves. They aren't sanitizing the counters or pin pads or anything. What I can see happening is that almost every other business closes and HD stays open so people will flock there just to get out of the house and have something to do.

We just got back from the doctor’s office and I was pleased with the way things were handled there. They did not use the sign in sheet and pen, and didn’t have patients in the waiting room. We were immediately taken to a private room, saw the doctor, and were out in 20 minutes.

Judy we thought that's what happened at Lowes. people getting "stuff" for home projects, or worried things might sell out and be in short supply. we keep wipes, sanitizer in our vehicle. I saw nothing in the store. maybe there was something at the front doors but this is a big entrance, from drive in part of the warehouse, and the contractor desk. it was disappointing.

our governor just announced sweeping restrictions, since our sick count is in the 700's now. bars, restaurants, wineries, hair salons, gyms, all get-togethers or events. you name it. the things open will be some retail, groceries, pharmacies, daycares, restaurants take out/ delivery/drive thru will be open, and places that normally have tables, like Starbucks, will be open minus any place to sit.
Carolyn that is good to know. I have two appts and I will check with them before showing up. patients and hospitals are being asked to curtail elective surgeries to conserve needed equipment.
I don't need to shop for a few days, but will have a careful list so I don't need to go often. Interestingly, the tribal casinos are apparently open for business without restriction. that is a damn crime.

we tried to xc ski this morning. snow level is quite low yet and we drove as far as we could but someone with a HUGE wheeled vehicle went further. we both walked a ways, DH got further than I and said it was chewed up as far as he could see so we bagged it and came home. skiing has been a waste of drive time this year.

I used some of the short Walk Strong 3 workouts strung together. Streamline Sculpt, 16 minutes,88/135 heart rate, 39 calories, 416 steps. I used 10# dumbbell for most and a 5 for overhead movements as she moves pretty quickly for some of these moves. I cannot see anyone doing some of her weight stuff with the maximum weight she has listed and the pace. I then did Total Body (short) 15 minutes, 51 calories, heart rate 105/128, 715 steps. Finished off with Total Body stretch, 18 minutes, 20 calories, 40 steps, heart rate 82/107. Total time was 49 minutes, 110 calories, 1,171 steps. I really was not in the mood so much for a workout this morning. These are good, but I think I am going to have to let the shoulder rest. Too many plank type moves and overhead presses. I went light, but my neck and shoulders are really feeling it. Wednesday is my follow up and I am watching two of the younger grandchildren when my daughter goes to the doctor that morning so I probably will take a day off then.
I am trying another pick up order with Walmart that the earliest time I could get is at 2. Hopefully all of the stuff is there. They did limit amounts. It let me put in one pack of toilet paper and canned goods were limited to 2 on most. No flour. I thought if worst thing I can't get bread I can make it for my husbands sandwiches. It showed 2 # bags, but when I tried to order it came back and said they were unavailable. I will put on my sunglasses and pick it up myself.

Valerie, it is good that you and your husband spend a lot of time outdoors and active. Probably the best way to avoid the virus. Funny thing about hand sanitizer is that there was quite a few on Amazon, not available, but with Chinese writing on the labels. Amazon has books on Kindle for making your own hand sanitizer. Mainly things like using Aloe Vera and isopropyl alcohol with scented oil if wanted. I guess another way to get past there being none available.

Carolyn, that is good that the Dr appointment was in and out and they paid attention to sanitization. Wonder how my eye surgeon appointment will be Wednesday. I am a bit worried as it seems skin is starting to cover some stitches.

Judy, I am sorry Home Depot is doing that way. I can't imagine why so many people would be going to home depot. Do they have toilet paper ? Just curious where options are.

LOL my husband said maybe the like the Iraq people who some have bidets and they clean their back side with their left hand. Sounds gross to me. But, I guess with their dry climate they probably have to get paper goods from somewhere else. Children there were so excited when my husband gave them paper and pencils with back packs that he had donated. So different from here. Classes sitting outdoors under the trees for school work.

This morning I did Cathe Live #94, PHA 2. I went lighter with the weights as I plan on doing another Live PHA tomorrow. I think I will be doing Live workouts for the next week or so.

Valerie- Michigan is closing almost everything too. Now I'm certain the everyone will be spending their leisure time at Home Depot since it will be one of the few places allowed to stay open.

Carolyn-That is good to know about the doctor appointment. Chris has one on 3/27 and another in April. He is supposed to get his colonoscopy this year but that might not happen on schedule.

Diane Sue-I really like the WS 15 minute workouts. I agree about the weight ranges that are given, they are a little off. I can't imagine she did any of the moves with the maximum weight that was listed.
Home Depot ran out of toilet paper and paper towels last Thursday. I'm not sure why it was so busy over the weekend, as everything else was still open.

Hi to Deb & Lori!

Judy

I made a mixture of 2/3 isopropyl alcohol and 1/3 aloe vera gel to use when I can’t wash with soap and water. I read about that solution in the NY Times last week and decided to give it a try. I have used it a couple of times when stores had none available on the checkout area.

Judy I think a lot of contractors are trying to get supplies to continue working, and home owners are getting supplies to work in the garden, do fix-it projects since we all will be staying home for a while, and no sports to watch on TV. I think the shortages at warehouse stores made everyone worry it would happen in other areas too. Lowes and HD have cleaning products and that's another project that can get done if you are basically on house arrest. it will be very interesting to see how people handle this. we are going to go try to ski another place tomorrow. if it doesn't work tomorrow I'm ready to hang up the skis for the year. . too many days wasted trying to find decent conditions.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, today I did Cathe Live PHA 3, 47 minutes, 310 calories.

Carolyn, that is amazing that the congregation of your church is good with streaming the services. I don't think churches I have gone to would have many that would be able to do that. That's great that your DR office had that procedure in place.

Valerie, things are all closed here as well, all restaurants, bars, gyms, movie theaters and no gathering of 50 or more people. They are going to reduce that number even further. Sad things are community centers, where elderly went each day, got meals there etc. My friend works at one, they are preparing meals and delivering them to the regulars that they see every day. I am wondering what our City Mission is doing. Yes, casinos run by the tribes have the choice to stay open or not. NOT GOOD! I like that when the state laws and programs are beneficial to them, they take advantage of them, but don't have to follow anything the state says like what they are trying to do now.

Judy, Good job with PHA 2. I really like the LIVE PHA workouts a lot. I totally agree with you! You should not have to be in that environment. It's not like they wouldn't hire you back when things get closer to normal...if you wanted to go back there.

Diane Sue, it sounds like the shopping by computer for local delivery or pick up is not really prepared to do what they claim they can do.

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

I have never used grocery order pick up. diane sue, no criticism here, you have an unfortunate situation. I would not go out right after surgery either. we had no warning this would all spin out of control so quickly, but it was clear what could happen after Wuhan. and the people currently running things were woefully unprepared.
I will shop early in the am after I find out what time they open in a store I'm familiar with. I know where everything is. no wandering needed. they don't have a self checkout but early there should not be too many people there. order pick up was slow to catch on here and suddenly its overwhelmed so I think it will take a while for stores to gear up to the current level. I ordered pet supplies for my sister and even Chewey emailed back and said what usually takes 1-2 days will take 4-6 days and this was a few days ago.

one person I feel bad for is cousin. he has been sick with upper respiratory infection for weeks, not corona, his wife had gyn surgery, and they were supposed to put their condo on the market april 1. real estate has been hot hot here for years , but now having a bunch of unknown people tramp thru your staged home sounds less than great. just this morning the big real estate announced they are ceasing open houses. he bought a place in AZ so he is going to have to sell ASAP. they pared down their food supplies and household goods for the move . they ate out a lot. talk about terrible timing. I am leaning on DH to give him a call for moral support but he doesn't want to.

we are going to mt bike this morning. need a break from skiing efforts.

deb you are totally spot on. tribes co operate when it's to their benefit, but otherwise do what favors them no matter the damage to the community. I am so sick of the preferential treatment. tribes here are getting an exclusive on sports betting now! some are closing casinos for 2 weeks but so far not a peep out of the one down the road from us. I would never go to one. seniors flock to them for the gambling and free food. I will shoot myself before I drop to that level. I shudder every time I see a nursing home bus pull into the parking lot. we are somewhere around 900 cases here and nursing homes have been the epicenter of deaths.

This morning I did ICE Chiseled Upper Body which was 42 minutes and 183 calories burned. Average heart rate was 116 and maximum heart rate was 160.

Deb, good job with Live PHA. My husband’s appointment yesterday was with his neurologist and many of the patients are older. They were doing a great job with minimizing risk for their patients. Food pantries and senior services are working hard to make sure that people have food. Schools have set up locations for food pick up for children, many of whom rely on meals at school. There are so many parts to this situation aside from the medical.

Valerie, that’s too bad for your cousin. I hope they can work things out for their move.

Hello to Diane Sue, Judy, and Lori.

we did our mt bike ride, it was nice, hardly anyone there or on the roads. 1 hr 40 min. I am happy to say the local casino is now "temporarily" closed! wonderful. they were not on the closing list in the paper, but are closed anyway.
Carolyn that is good to know about the appt being well handled. ETA mamm clinic called and cancelled me so I cancelled my eye appt. all routine procedures were being cancelled.

I thought cousin had planned things out very well, but no way to foresee something like this. they didn't want to move food. had whittled down all kitchen supplies to almost nothing, and I don't know about paper products but expect that was low also. they were hoping to be moved early this summer.

Good morning ladies!

Well, I should have plenty of opportunity to post! Lost my job on Monday. I expected as much. Our company has been very fragile and knew this virus would be the end all. I am fine with this and welcome being home. My husband is my concern and I hated going into work and possibly bringing something home. I am able to collect and we will be fine. Fortunately for us, Bob carries the insurance so this is good and his job is fine. The few people left at my office had to take a 33% pay decrease and it is a matter of time for them. Really feel bad for everyone left behind. For me it is good the ties are cut and I can move on. Not saying I am thrilled about the situation, but do not need to stress about each day I go in will it be my last.

We met with my husband’s cardiologist yesterday and he confirmed his Pulmonary Hypertension is mild, so we are thankful. He has a few more test and then we can start to treat things. PH does not go away and will get progressively worse. He is a long way from this, and will be forever monitored by his doctor. He is in good hands.

Going to go back a couple of weeks and read some posts. Want to know what has been going on in everyones lives. I did see Valerie, you made your own hand sanitizer. I did the same! Made sure Bob, and my son had plenty. Also, pure coincidence, before all went crazy, and before we knew stores would be running out - I had recently stocked up on TP, lysol spray and lysol wipes. Can’t get any of this now. It is insane.

I am absolutely excited to get back to working out regularly again!!! :) My good friend (that I worked with) also was let go and she said to me “I am going to get fat sitting around”....I told her “funny, as I was thinking the opposite...I am going to be so thin now that I can workout as much as I want! Lol”!!!!! As Madeline always said “find a reason to be grateful” :)

Will chat with you all soon!
