Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/9

This morning I did Stacked Sets Lower Body for 41 minutes and 239 calories burned. My average heart rate was 124 and maximum heart rate was 152. I also did JS Gentle Yoga Hips and Knees flow. That was 22 minutes and 34 calories burned. I really like this practice a lot for the way my lower body feels afterwards.

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Ripped and Ride, 5 Day Strength, and JS Gentle Yoga Neck and Shoulders practice. I can see how a small pharmacy could offer more personalized service. My old Rite Aid pharmacy (that was taken over by Walgreens) was like that even though it was part of a chain.

Valerie, that’s good that you were able to ride yesterday, even with all that mud. It sounds like your sister is really deluding herself about her future travels.

Deb, I have picked up my prescriptions without checking closely only to find that it was the generic version of my medication, which I can’t take. Of course they don’t keep enough of the brand name drug on hand and it has to be special ordered. It can become a very frustrating experience.

Hello to Judy.

I had nothing but grief at rite aid so switched to Costco and have had much better experience. part of the issue at Rite aid was another customer with the same name. they were repeatedly giving me her prescriptions until I told them they needed birthdate included to stop the mix up. then I got a script filled with the wrong medication. I looked closer, the meds had similar names but it was not right. wow.. were they ever apologetic! then a Costco opened that was close and I switched. no problem. pharmacies here do all immunizations, but I've never had issues as described in the NYT article.

Carolyn, my sister doesn't know all she doesn't know! I keep pushing For little steps but nothing happens. Our mother was like this.... lazy, uninterested in learning. Getting others to do her work for her. should her daughter ever get pregnant and actuallywant her mother around ...
so many obstacles I cant see how this can happen. its not like I live next door and can hand her the information. everything is snail mail, it takes a week at least. It seems so silly ... like she is part of some primitive Stone Age tribe with no modern tools

did Lite PHA the whole thing. Not easy. I need to move too much sequipment around too often for this one. Will try it at least once more Before deciding.

Deb you asked what mattress ..it's an inexpensive Beautyrest. memory foam is gross feeling and pillow tops are too warm, so I'm a cheap date. all kinds of exotic choices out there. I don't want a mattress that retains heat.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did 40 minutes of Peloton rides and today was a rest day. I did 20 minutes of restorative yoga this morning.

Deb-That's really good blood pressure. I bet you feel a lot better now!

Valerie & Deb-That's scary about the prescriptions. I just read the People's Pharmacy article. That is eye opening. We've always used CVS and haven't had any issues. The pharmacists always seem stressed and over worked though.
There is definitely some incentive for pharmacy staff to fill prescriptions. Back in 2017, I was hounded for months after my doctor prescribed a statin, which I refused to take and did not even pick up. I called CVS and told them I did not want the prescription, but they continued to call and text me trying to get me to fill this prescription.

Carolyn-Nice workouts this week! I had forgotten that Rite Aid was taken over by Walgreens.

Diane Sue-Nice job with Ripped & Ride! I'm still looking at Kelly's 5 Day Strength program. I printed out the worksheets from her site and plan on doing the workouts soon.

Hi to Lori,

Judy

Quick check in as I have to leave and get my grandson in a bit. I did Jessica Smith Walk Strong and Have Fun: Have a Ball, 33 minutes, 159 calories, heart 123/153, 2,860 steps followed by Walk Strong Have Fun Ready Steady Go, 33 minutes, 171 calories, heart rate 129/170 3,296 steps. I finished with JS Gentle Yoga chest and back, 18 calories, 21 minutes, 10 steps, heart rate 77/94. Total time 87 minutes, 348 calories, 6,166 steps.

Does anyone have a workout clothing source you recommend? I've been looking around and seeing mostly full length tights rather than capris or crops or whatever. I'm short and full length, even petites, are usually long. maybe I'm too early in the season for shorter? any recommendations?

Today I did Step Sync, combos 2 and 3, for 38 minutes and 301 calories burned. Average heart rate was 136 and maximum heart rate was 259.

Valerie, good job with LiTE PHA. I did that one last week and enjoyed it. I’m not sure what you mean about moving around too much equipment. My favorite workout capris are a brand called Outdoor Voices. They have 3/4 and 7/8 length leggings on their website. They are comfortable with just enough compression without feeling tight. Also, they don’t slide down below my waist!

Diane Sue, nice work with JS Walk Strong workouts and the Gentle Yoga.

Judy, great job with the Peloton ride and restorative yoga.

Hello to Deb and Lori, too, if you are out there.

Carolyn my capris are a few years old and a lower rise. Will not stay up! So tired of constant hiking up, slide down, hike up etc.

I started using a weight bench then switched to the step and had also had weights all over the floor. I will try again using only the bench. I took most risers to MT so bench is not high enough but it will have to do. Thanks I’ll look at that brand.

Valerie, that workout uses the step for forward leaning glute lunges, rear lunges off the step, and elevated push dips. You would still need to have it available.

carolyn I said that wrong... I had the step, the top off the step, and my weight bench pulled out, it became an obstacle course. I will stick with the step only so its less crowded. I liked those moves. sore butt today. definitely got to the glutes. they are talking to me!. also did a lot of garden work shoveling yesterday and I got sore. different use of the same muscles still equals soreness for me.

I looked at that site but all are too long. a 7/8 or 3/4 tight will be full length on me. I want something just below the knee. Lululemon has capris but they are awfully pricey, $88-$118. that's a lot! I want an inseam around 20-23 inches. I'm guessing choices should increase as spring styles show up. I prefer darker colors with some heathery look or pattern to them. I'd appreciate hearing if you've seen anything like this lately.

so my weigh in yesterday was not great. I am up a pound even though I've been sticking to plan and exercising daily. re double efforts this week.

I decided to take a rest day today.

Valerie, now I understand what you mean by too much equipment! The website Beyond Yoga has some capris that might be what you are looking for and they have a wide range of sizes. I have a pair of the long leggings that I received for Christmas. Mine are the glittery ones, but they have a heather fabric in dark colors. Unfortunately, they are all pricey.

Hello to everyone and have a great day.

so far I've used Title 9 and Athleta. I bought a very inexpensive pair at Costco but not very comfortable and too long .
Athleta has the biggest selection and also petite sizes. that will help if I end up with 3/4 or 7/8 length. I still prefer just below knee. a lot of things are getting a higher waist and decent size pockets. I just did a spin and hitching up the pants constantly is a huge annoyance. they slide down even if I tuck my shirt in. I'm working out in my own basement but the sensation of pants crawling down is beyond annoying. so glad the style is changing.

I have a pair of capris from Athleta that always slide down. They are nice overall, but the waist band issue can be annoying. I like the higher waistline.
