Good morning,

Spending most of my time at the hospital. Things are about the same. They are discussing palliative care. Her kidneys are shutting down. It is so sad for all of us.

Valerie, that is too bad about your sister. You are doing everything you can from a distance. It sounds like she does not really want to do much to help herself, unfortunately. There are many ways to learn how the basics of a computer, a lot of our high schools have nighttime classes for adults, also community centers etc. It doesn;t sound like she would have the transportation to get to any of them even if she wanted to.

Carolyn, we are having weather that is higher temps than normal too...but it is still in the 40's. I agree about using those fake sweeteners in baked goods. I can still taste them and don't like the flavor. Applesauce works really well to replace oils.

Lori, great that you got those correct bungees. I bet they look great. :).

Diane Sue, good workout! I forgot about putting protein powder in plain yogurt for a snack. I used to do this and take it to work. Have to remember that. Great that you got that refund for that yogurt! I look at all the yogurts and find the sugar content of most is ridiculous. I am hoping I can find the Bulletproof bars at a local health food store.

Hi to Judy,

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

It's warmer here this morning and we have a wind warning until 2 pm. The winds are gusting to 50 mph. Hopefully no power outages. I'll probably do a workout and/or a yoga session today. I'm not following any particular rotation for the next couple of weeks.

Deb-I am so sorry. You have been a such a good, supportive friend. I'm keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Valerie-That is too bad that you sister doesn't want to use the internet. It is hard to imagine not having a cell phone or computer. It sounds like you are doing everything you can to help. It would be hard to shop online for someone else, especially for groceries.

Lori-Great workout and calorie burn! I am liking the lighter weight and high rep approach for my upper body.

Diane Sue-We've never had our cats teeth cleaned and hopefully we won't have to. I've been brushing their teeth several times a week. I started when they were kittens so they are used to it and don't mind.

Carolyn-I'm glad your back is better. I don't think I would want to order groceries online either.

Deb I am so sorry. I hope they are able to keep her comfortable. Will she stay where she is or move to another facility for hospice care?

Thank you for all your thoughts on my crazy family. She loves her pets but can’t afford them. Brother is still in hospital but hopes to get out today.
I don’t think most people realized how dominant the internet/ computers would become and how out of touch it made people who didn’t learn. It’s been like amazon, gradually taking over everything ...every aspect of modern life. She uses the telephone for everything. Now that she can’t drive she can’t get to a class if she wanted to. Plus old dogs don’t learn new tricks easily. And she is an old dog with this attitude!

I did 20 min on both treadmill and elliptical and the core 1 from x train plus 100 knee push ups.

meant to comment more on dental care for pets. we had a dobie who ate nothing but hard kibble. I used to brush his teeth regularly, but he still needed his teeth cleaned a few times. Dogs are like people.... some need it, some don't. I would not have skipped my own dental care though!

Today I did The Ultimate Yogi Yin Yoga for 1 hour and 2 minutes. That was 105 calories with an average heart rate of 88 and maximum heart rate of 114. This yoga practice always makes my body feel so good afterwards, especially my back.

Deb, I am so sorry about your friend. I am sure that you are a great comfort to her.

I don’t know how people function without using the internet for some things these days. So many businesses assume that everyone has access and can go online to take care of things. It’s the same with cell phones.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day.

Good afternoon all!

This morning I did Live Warrior Kickboxing for 37 mins. Stopped at the heavy bag. I then was doing the first 5 rounds of Xtrain Ch Bk and Sh and did not want to over work my arms. I ended with Bellicon’s Bouncing at the Beach. This was about 18 mins of gentle bouncing and stretching. Great way to end my workout. Total times was 90 mins / 611 cals.

Deb...my thoughts and prayers are with you. So very sad.

Judy...it is actually cooler here and we had some snow. Not a lot but enough to make traveling hazardous. Hard to beleive last week it was 70. I have been doing hi reps now since I started with SBF. My workouts intesified once I started with BBS and now LEKfit.

Valerie...great workout! I too could never be without the internet!

My husband is gone all day and late into the evening for business. My son is away with his GF. I am going to take a nice hot epson salt bath with some lavendar oil (thank you for mentioning Carolyn!). Will be a very relaxing afternoon! :)

Hello to all!

Today, was the family birthdays. We had a good time and extra guests. My granddaughter's fiance, my other granddaughter's boyfriend and my youngest daughter's mother and father in law all came. We had a crowd :D I am sleepy. I did not get in bed till after midnight, and Gertie thought I needed to get up early this morning. She has her clock set with my normal weekday hours and started making low barking noises till I got up, then ran to the door wanting out.

Deb, I am sorry things are not looking good for your friend. It is so sad. I usually only buy plain yogurt, but even some of that you have to look at the sugar content. Chobani is not my choice yogurt, but since it was not costing me in the end, I was fine with it. I usually look for greek and grassfed organic yogurts. I do not eat a lot of it though. I recently went back to taking a bit more calcium and d because I have not been using dairy other than cream. I do eat lots of greens though. I like yogurt with vanilla whey and some walnuts.

Judy, I don't think that I would have a problem with Gertie's teeth if I wanted to brush them. She is pretty good about me checking her mouth and filing her nails and that sort of thing. She likes the attention. I suppose animals in the wild chew on tougher things than we give them. They didn't go get their teeth cleaned and brushed. Maybe they just ended up without teeth, I don't know. It just seems to me that this is something that they have recently came up with. After I mentioned this, I saw my vet had a facebook ad on taking care of your dogs teeth. I have never had a vet mention this to me before.

Valerie, I think technology has it's good and it's bad. I don't like being forced to do things through the internet as opposed to mail. I don't like having my information floating around out there for strangers in some data base or the cloud. But, it is what it is. My Dad went through so many computers. Bless his heart, he could work them to a point, but he was always having someone try to straighten it out for him when he would mess it up. Then he would just go get another and start over. Same with printers :) My friend that I mentioned does not have a computer and she carries around an old flip phone and does not have texting. I can only reach her by calling and she often has her mail box full on her phone. My Dad used to do the same thing with his cell phone.
I can kind of understand your sister loving her pets. They are probably good companions and give her comfort. But, skipping her own dental health and spending that much on the dog's teeth is nuts. I saw someone pinterest that used some powdered stuff that she put in her dogs food and it loosened tarter so it was easy to brush it off her dogs teeth and it left her dogs teeth really clean. I didn't pay enough attention to the stuff though and she said she was not a professional so it was not advice for others to do the same.

Carolyn, it sounds like you are getting some nice yoga workouts in. I love it when I do a longer one and I feel so good. No stiff areas :) Businesses are making a good part of their money through the internet. Anymore the schools send the children home with notebook computers. I find it quite interesting how the public school system works with grades and school work. I watch my grandchildren get online to check their grades and do homework. It is quite amazing. I just remember toting loads of books and papers all over.

Lori, that is nice you have some time for just yourself. The epsom salt bath sounds relaxing. We had an almost 80 degree day just before all of the freezing rain and ice. My youngest daughter said she just went out and worked in prepping her garden and started some plants in pots. She said she was not ready for the freezing weather. They are saying we may have one more cold front come through before the spring like temps start back. The stores were really busy the last two days. I guess everyone finally ventured out to the grocery store after staying in.

Good morning,

Nothing much changed here. I am going to the hospital to be with my friend's husband when he meets with Hospice this morning,

Judy, thank you. We had some high winds yesterday too, but not the storm that they predicted. Why no rotation?

Valerie, they said that she would stay where she is. The hospital she is in has designated certain rooms as Hospice rooms. They are made up differently, no medical things hanging off walls etc, and hopefully, more comfortable furniture for the family/visitors. Agree on dogs....some just have good dental health, and others are not that lucky. Of course, good dental care helps, just like with people.

Carolyn, nice that you felt so good after that yoga workout. Yes, I feel for people like the elderly, trying to deal with things like Medicare. How do they handle it without a computer?

Lori, what a nice way to end a day, a relaxing bath with lavender! :).

Diane Sue, sorry about your sleep. Our dogs are the same way, there is no difference to them between Monday or Saturday. They wake up at 4:30 and want to go out. I think this is left over from when I worked and got up at 4:30 every day. Have you tried Ziggy's Greek yogurt? I like the full fat one. It has low sugar, and you can get other than plain. It was recommended by the NG's. Yes, some schools here issue iPads to the students to use for homework etc.

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did Yin Yoga and this morning I plan on doing a Spinerval and maybe an upper body workout. We had higher winds most of the day yesterday. There were some power outages nearby but we didn't lose power. It was this time last year that we had the extended power outage and had to stay in a hotel for a few days so we were a little nervous. That one was caused by high winds too.

Deb- Meeting with Hospice is very hard. You are helping them so much by being there.
I felt like I needed some down time after last week and the vertigo. I was feeling sore and kind of burned out on training so it seemed like a good time for a change. I decided to take short break from rotations. I'm still going to work out, but nothing structured and I'll be taking more rest days. I plan on starting STS the first of April and I think I'll be rested and ready for it.

Diane Sue- I agree about the teeth cleaning being something new that vets have come up with. I'm sure it's necessary in some cases of dental disease but there are a few vets want to do it regardless. When Chino was young we went to a new vet and the first thing that she tried to do was schedule a dental cleaning. He was only 9 months old and his teeth were perfect. She was very persistent about it so we found another vet. So far our current vet thinks their teeth are fine and hasn't tried to schedule cleanings.

Lori- An epsom salt bath sounds so nice and relaxing! It's supposed to be warmer here this week but then the temperature drops and we may get snow on Thursday.

Carolyn- I am loving Yin Yoga! Between that and taking some extra rest days, my back and hips are feeling better and stronger than ever!

Valerie-I agree about some animals needing more dental care than others. I do think that some of that is genetic and it doesn't matter how much you brush, they will still get dental disease.

Judy

Deb, we had (DH's family) a good experience with hospice. they were a huge help in a very difficult time. it helps to know that comfort and pain relief is paramount to them. it was handled calmly and smoothly. MIL was cared for well. we have no regrets. it is wonderful you can be there to help your friends husband through the process.

Judy, that sounds like a good choice to go to another vet. Our kitties never needed cleaning. Our dog several times. I would have done it if necessary. someone trying to sell an expensive procedure on a young cat sounds like someone more interested in the $$ than your pets welfare.

My sister is not very good with technology. even things like coffee pots, alarm clocks, watches that most people would not think twice about. she is all upset that she will need to get a new blood glucose meter and won't be able to figure it out. there are some very complex meters out there now, but the basic ones are simple to use. I had hoped she would sell her house and move into a low income senior facility where there are services available, and most likely computer access where she would see other people using the system and could learn gradually in bits and pieces. I know a friend of hers bought her a sewing machine and it's still in the box. she won't even try.

we are continuing in the winter blast. more snow last night. we have a lot now, and trouble with avalanches in the mountains. it feels like nature is trying to prevent us from going to MT at every turn. most of our winter was benign but the last couple weeks have been wretched.

I like yogurt but not much if not sweetened. I have mostly skipped using it. by the time I get it to where it's not too sour, I've added too much sweetener so it's not a frequent thing for me. even with fruit added, it's too sour for me. How do you all get around that? If I want to eat it, especially plain, I'd drizzle on a TB of honey!

This morning I did (or attempted to do) Step Moves. It was 44 minutes and 298 calories burned. Average heart rate was 126 and maximum heart rate 157. I didn’t follow Cathe very well, but I kept moving and had fun doing it.

Diane Sue, it sounds like you had a big day yesterday. I buy the Siggis yogurt that Deb mentioned because it has less sugar. My husband wants yogurt with fruit and Siggis is the best one for that and it tastes good. I use plain full fat yogurt for myself and add in fruit and sweetener of choice.

Valerie, it took a while for me to move from a very sweet yogurt to barely sweet. Sometimes I use 1/4 cup of plain and 1/4 cup of flavored. Some brands are more tart than others. Siggis plain is not as tart as the other brands that I buy. A woman in our WW meeting brought up the this same question a few weeks ago and sparked quite a discussion. I think you just have to do what works for you with sweetners.

Judy, it’s good to figure out what your body needs in terms of rest and activity. I have found that my 67 year old body needs the flexibility activities.

Hello to Deb and Lori.

Today I did Kelly Coffey Cardio Pump workout 1 cardio, 29 minutes, heart rate average 139, max 164, 192 calories, met 6, 2,812 steps. I then did Kelly's Lift Power Sculpting workout with 1 round of the floor segment that has the barbell rollouts and bridges( I think I hit the menu button or something and it stopped before the repeat), 45 minutes, heart rate average 103, max 136, 223 calories, met 4.7. I forget this one is more of a metabolic type workout with a lot of movement. I think I did do this one when I was going through the workouts recently and also did the Olympic lifting premix. Total time was 74 minutes and calories burned 415.

Deb, that is good that you will be with your friends husband when they talk about Hospice. I am not sure if I tried Ziggy's yogurt. At first I was thinking you meant Siggis which I know that I have tried. I will have to look. I have used a lactose free Green Valley Organics. I buy the full fat yogurt most of the time.

Judy, I try to have my rechargeable flash lights and everything I can that is battery charged up before storms where there is a chance of Power outage. The worst time for me was when I couldn't even get out of my neighborhood to go to family's homes because power lines were blocking the exit. I can understand being worried. I guess I tend to not trust people when the suddenly persist you spend extra money on something. I had to find another vet once when I realized the help may have been pocketing some money or something. They had quoted an outlandish price for Spaying my Dane. I had it done in another clinic for 100 dollars less than they were saying. The same thing happened with things like heart guard. I did not realize I was paying too much till I went to another vet.
I had a dentist that I went to when mine retired once, that told me I needed 6 fillings. He was odd and kept staring at me as I went out the door. I did not go back. I found the one I have now and have had him for many years.
I am going with taking care of my dogs teeth at home as long as it works :)

Valerie, I sometimes use a spreadable all fruit jam in my yogurt. I am not sure that that is much better than a bit of honey or maple syrup though. I think some brands are more sour tasting than others. It is too bad that your sister won't try to learn those things. They do come with instructions. If she had a computer she could watch you tube how to's . They do have more complicated devices now. That includes sewing machines. Why did a friend buy her a sewing machine? Was she wanting to sew?

Now Siggi's I've seen and tried. it was too sour. I've had Chobani but only a flavored one. I was looking for lime flavor, key lime pie that sort of flavor. chobani and Yoplai and one other were the only ones I could find. I use lime yogurt as dressing for a fruit salad. too thick, like a lot of greek yogurt, doesn't work. the most I get is 1/2 of a container. I don't usually eat yogurt by itself. diane sue, that's a great idea, using spreadable fruit. I need less sweetener if there's fruit added. I won't eat it with "a bit" of syrup or honey.......... I want a lot.... so I stay away from plain yogurt as a snack. half sweetened and unsweetened is also a great idea.

a friend bought her a small, simple sewing machine so she could hem jeans. she gets clothes 2nd hand and often need to be shortened. she looked at the box, decided she couldn't do it, and quit right there. I have a fairly new sewing machine. I will be the FIRST to agree that new computerized ones are not simple. every time I get mine out... I need to go thru the instructions. it's mostly about threading it right, and filling the bobbin right. Once that is done, the actual sewing process is easy. getting those first two steps is not as simple as it used to be on older machines. my excuse is I only sew things a couple times a year so I will need to review it each time before I get going.

anyway, yes, everyone is assumed to have a computer or a smart phone and the knowledge to use them. it is hard on the small per centage of people who can't or won't. I know sister was complaining how hard it is to get a phone book and I can't even remember the last time I used one. I toss them directly into the recycle bin for years now.

Good evening ladies,

This morning I subbed in Live Oh My Glutes for Xtrain Legs. I was planning to keep with the rotation but I really wanted to do this workout. It really moves long quickly. I liked it and was thinking while doing the workout I should use 20’s when she uses 15’s. This is what I was thinking this morning...tonight I am glad that I stayed with the 15’s as I am developing some nice doms! This is my only workout and since my husband is working late tonight I am going to soak again in my tub for as long as I want! :) Was lovely yesterday and so relaxing.

Deb...that is good she does not have to move to another location and it is there at the hospital. You are a good friend. I started making my 4 week rotation. I’ll share when it is finalized so when you are up for workouts it will be there for you.

Judy...I remember you staying in a hotel. Crazy that was a year ago! We had some snow but no wind. Today it was almost 50. Glad you are enjoying the yoga workout.

Carolyn...just completing Steps Moves deserves a round of applause! Good for you....I was going through my old VHS tapes recently and came across Cathe’s Mega Step Blast, Step Jam, Step Works and Step Max. Back in the day I did enjoy my step workouts. I should convert these to digital just so I can watch them. I have a machine that will convert for me. But of course you expected that of me!! Lol!

Valerie...sewing machines can be confusing especially when you never used one. I have one that I do not use very often and do exactly what you do...Read the instructions whenever I need to use it! One of these days the weather will permit you to go to MT. Spring is right around the corner and I can’t wait!

Diane Sue...Great workouts today! You are making me excited to get my KCM workouts. I know the ones you did today are not in the new series but getting me excited none the less. Don’t blame you for changing your Dentist. That was odd behavior from him.

Have a great night all...bath time!!! Lol!!!

Valerie, I looked today and the lactose free yogurt had quite a bit more sugar than the chobani plain yogurt did. I was surprised. Another thing that I have done is when the greek yogurt seems extra thick and kind of dry, I stir some vanilla nut milk into it. It gets a bit of flavor and and lightens the sourness a bit. I do not eat yogurt plain. I don't like any of it plain. I like Crofters Organic Spreadable fruit only in raspberry or super fruit. They only thing is lately Sprouts has been out of that one. I have to double check my instructions for certain stitches and stitch sizes when I actually do a project with my machine. I had a simpler one, that my Dad gave me, but I swear it was terrible about the bobbin case clogging up and thread breaking even when I tried to change thread types and needles. I made my granddaughter a t-shirt quilt for graduation with all of her special t-shirts a few years ago, and resorted to buying a new brother machine that had a lot of extras. It sews nice, but like you, I don't use it often and have to look at the instructions again. I pulled it out last night to fix my grandson's jeans as the belt tab tore loose. He brings me his clothing fixes :) I was trying to help his mother learn to sew and someone gave her a machine, that I can't get working. I bought a manual for it and I told my daughter it has to do with the tension and maybe she really needs to take it to a shop and have them help with it. I miss my old touch and sew machine. It was easy, no unthreading the machine to wind the bobbin, and changing stitches was easy. It just finally gave out after many years of making my children clothes. We had bought it as a refurbished one that was used in schools and it was like a new machine.
I toss my phone books too. The thing is, they do not have a lot in them. I think most businesses are on the internet and not the phone books. I don't even see people in them like when there used to be yellow pages for business and white pages for people. Even the government pages of numbers is not extensive. Besides it is easier to google. Although these search engines make money off of the ones they put on top.

Lori, sometimes it is just better to go to the lower weight. I often start out too heavy, thinking something is going to be a piece of cake and end up humbled. Today I ended up dropping to 5# on one move and Kelly was using 7#. Maybe it was because I started out too heavy and this was near the end. My shoulders were burning and I really did not want to end up with neck and shoulder pain. I must have burned some good calories because I was pretty hungry, which is not the norm, when I was done. I still went to the store before I ate just to get it out of the way and figuring I would pick up a nutrition bar or protein packet. I have those old Cathe's on dvds. I have two vhs/dvd players that have dubbing, but I don't bother anymore. I got rid of my VHS tapes. I did dub family vhs tapes though. I should pull out the old Cathe workouts. I think one of them she is wearing white lace leggings or tights or something :) Which reminds me I was looking at the styles in my yearbook that came down out of the attic. The puffy hairdos are hilarious. Senior year the hair was going more toward straight styles. It is just funny to look at. My husband pulled out a picture of us standing in the park in California, me with pants with really wide legs at the bottom in railroad stripes LOL

Carolyn, I missed your post :) I have fun with Step Moves. I wish Cathe didn't travel around the step though. I just do not like doing that with step workouts. I have done that one a lot. I think it moves at a nice pace. Not too tough.

Good morning,

My friend was moved to a Hospice room yesterday. Now it is just a day by day thing.

Judy, it is probably a good thing to take some time off. Are you still going to the appointment with the ENT DR? Kylee had an abscessed tooth which resulted in cleaning and having 2 teeth removed. That was a couple years ago and her teeth look great. The vet has not suggested a cleaning yet. He does recommend that we use a small cloth or corner of a wash cloth to go over them daily as a preventative thing. I admit, I forget to do it. There is a gel that I bought that can be used every day to help. You just have to put some in their mouths.

Valerie, I thing your idea of your sister moving into a low income senior place is a good one. No maintenance, etc, and she would have help and people around her. I guess you can suggest things, but when it comes down to it, she would have to want to do it. I have to do the same thing you mentioned when I have to sew something...out comes the book to figure out how to thread the machine and the bobbin. I get so frustrated with it sometimes.

Carolyn, Great job on Step Moves. Completing or attempting any Cathe step workouts is an accomplishment! I really like Siggis, because you can get flavored without a lot of sugar. it is more expensive than any of the other brands in the supermarket. I get the full fat all the time too. Even get that with cottage cheese. Good idea to mix plain with flavored.

Diane Sue, yes it was Siggis...I had it spelled incorrectly ...:). What do you do for Gertie's teeth? I also use that spreadable fruit for jam. I think it's called Polnar?

Lori, that Live leg workout sounds good. Will put it on my "to do" list. Thanks for making the rotation and sharing.

Take care,

Today I did Strength and Stamina workout Two. Workout time was 37 minutes with 191 calories burned. Average heart rate was 116 and maximum heart rate 150. I followed that with WS3 Cardio Interval Sculpt. That was 32 minutes, 154 calories, average heart rate 113, and maximum heart rate 140. My total workout time was 1 hour and 9 minutes and total calories burned 345.

Deb, I am thinking of you.

I have two old sewing machines that I haven’t used in years. I’m sure that I would need the manuals to use either one. It seems that it should come back to me once I started threading the machine it but that’s not the case.

Diane Sue, I looked through my high school memory book recently and that really brought back happy memories. We watched a PBS documentary over the weekend called Tell Them We Are Rising, The Story of Black Colleges and Universities. The last segment featured our University and the protests that took place on campus in 1972. That was very emotional for me because I was still enrolled there at the time. It brought tears to my eyes.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Lori.

Good to know I'm not the only one challenged by sewing machines! I had a Viking that was easy. DH used it to repair some jeans and broke it. he was patching knees on jeans, a hard area to sew. he didn't like how I did it, & he muscled it around and something broke that wasn't fixable. (Nobody fixes things anymore!) It was $75 for someone even to look at it, repairs extra. I use for hemming, small repairs, sewing on buckles, etc. nothing fancy. Costco had new ones at great. price .. like $135. It might be a Brother, I don't remember. It works great when threaded right. the bobbin fill is a different process. Old machines were easier to thread but would get jammed up easily. new ones are the opposite..... threading trickier, but then work smoothly. I have more thread breaking with new ones. like everyone else, I keep the instructions handy and always check the bobbin for enough thread before starting anything. sister quit without even opening the box. I found her new jeans on amazon that came in the right length so that was easier.

Deb, you have been a good and loyal friend through the worst of things. so many people disappear when the going gets rough.

if I bought her a computer, it would sit in the box like the sewing machine. Deb, I tried to get her to move years ago. her previous dog died. she could not drive anymore. she was running out of people to drive. but she didn't want to change anything, wanted another big dog. most retirement places let you keep small dogs or cats but not a snappy german shepard. her current dog is 7-8 yo now so in a few years ... the deja vu all over again. I will refuse to find another dog. her house is an unholy disaster. will not be easy to sell. without internet, I don't know how she will look for a new place, or move there. Her children have walked out of her life. no contact with son in years. he got married and didn't invite her. daughter moved to texas. not sure what will happen.

I have some spreadable fruit, Polner(?) & Smuckers. never thought of mixing in yogurt. I have no lactose issues so always get milk based yogurt. I don't use enough to stress over it.

I did a S&S spin premix 36 minutes and MM triceps yesterday. I think the sound is a little better on new TV but still parts of background music drown Cathe out. When she starts turning around onto and off the step, that's it for me. I get confused.
some of the hairdos on the older disks are a hoot! the updo with a fall. Ach!. My old yearbook pics with bouffants.. all hair teased/ratted up and a ton of hairspray. At least it seems like low rise pants are giving way to higher waists again. can't happen fast enough for me! I hate low rise and get so tired of hiking them up. they never ever fit right & won't stay up with out a belt or drawstring.

Every time new phone books get delivered, half of them sit on the ground outside mailboxes until they disintegrate from rain. I wish they quit automatic delivery.

Today I did Kelly workouts. I started with Build and Burn Cardio Core, 27 minutes, 173 calories, met 5.8, 2,090 steps, heart rate average 129, max 168. I then did Train Like a Contender (TLC) Boxing workout with the warm up, 35 minutes, 222 calories, heart rate average 128, max 159, 5.8 met, 3,204 steps. I finished off with Athletic Conditioning 2 workout 2 abs/stretch, 25 minutes, 69 calories, 2.5 met, 142 steps.(I took a lower cal burn for this as everything was all over the place, Map My Fitness had 152 using abs as it's setting) The met I used is in yoga range. Total time was 87 minutes, and calories 464.

Deb, I kind of wondered if it wasn't Siggis. Your name sounds more common than the other :) I have used the Polaner Jam a lot. I just make sure Gertie has plenty of things to chew on to clean her teeth. I have purchased dental chews for dogs in the past. Most of the time I rely on the Nylabones that I keep around and pick up raw hide. I had a vet say that chewing ice helped as well. Gertie only really wants to chew on ice in the warm weather though. When I was having to give her chicken instead of dry kibble I worried a bit more about her teeth.

Carolyn, the emotions would be understandable. With going through things we had put away, it is like an emotional roller coaster. I just went through our Family tree album, and added papers I found that explain some dates for some of my great grandparents that were born in Germany and settled here. I was missing some information. My brother sewing machine has lines on top indicating the path of the thread for bobbin winding and threading which makes that easier.

Valerie, what does happen to people when they have not family and they cannot take care of themselves? I find it so sad. Too bad she chased away her family. Buying jeans that fit was a good idea :) I hate repairing stuff. I would much rather make something so I have some enjoyment out of the process. Machines do not do well with thick areas like the edges of jeans pockets, felled seams, and such. Sometimes a heavy duty needle will help, but then they do not want to puncture the material well. I have hated the super low pants. They do not want to stay up and are just plain uncomfortable. I found some with a higher waist at Maurice's when we lived away from here. Usually I bought the mid-rise from Old Navy. I don't like squatting on the floor and my underwear hanging out or my backside. I seen that too many times on others. I was glad when they started making longer shirts.

Don't you just hate it when someone squats to get something and their butt is hanging out for the world to see? seems like the people who should least want their butts on display. bad enough with men, but low rise made it an issue for women. the top of my hips is small so I need pants that my thighs are happy with. then the top of the pants swims around me. some are hopeless. I need belt loops and a belt or very stretchy material that contracts, and then I still need a tucked in shirt or longer sweater. I have cursed Britney spears for this trend. I am seeing a lot more pants described as "high rise" or wide waistband and I could not be happier.

I hate sewing. I need to sew less now that a lot of womens pants come in a petite length. mens pants, not so much. DH has a 29 inch inseam. it is hard to find pants that don't need shortening. I hope that with all the people of Asian and mexican ancestry, who tend shorter, that shorter pants for men will get more available. not everyone is a 6'3, 35 inch inseam Norwegian.

ETA this is especially troublesome for outdoor technical pants. like for climbing or skiing. often have a vertical zipper or Velcro tabs at the leg bottom. no way to shorten them. maybe men won't buy anything labeled "short"? usually there is regular and tall. regular is usually 32" inseam. usually the crotch hangs way down too... cut for a taller person.

the jeans hemming used to be a regular thing. If you have ever tried to get a jeans pant leg on a free arm up/ down to the knee area, sew on a patch, you will quickly see the problem. depending on how wide the leg, it may not be possible at all. the iron-on ones fall off. DH wears out his knees from outdoor work, and wants them patched but it is an ordeal. I won't let him near the new machine.

Valerie, I had to smile at your description of iron on patches and trying to get into the knees of pants. I have had to do that so many times. Not for my husband but for children, grandchildren, even son in law. My grandson, 17, brought me his favorite pair of jeans so many times and I kept buying patches, then I started ironing on and trying my best to get inside these well rotted thin denim pants to sew them down. It got where there wasn't much left to sew. We started making jokes about the pants becoming one patch. He finally gave them up after what I would say was a year and a half of patching. As for jeans sizing. I used to be able to wear a regular, but when I went to Maurices the last time I had to get a petite because I was walking on my pants legs. The problem with low rise is there is not indentation for a waist. They are straight up and down. My waist is smaller and if I can get them over my thighs then the upper part rides down because the waist band, or whatever you call it is too wide. Oh, and stretch doesn't work, they fit for a couple of hours and then they stretch out and start riding down. I live in jeans most of the time and I like them to fit and be comfortable. The aforementioned grandson wants so much to be taller and has Mexican decent. He was hoping genetics on my husbands side would give him a chance to be taller. Then his cousin is something like 6'5. Every time we see him, I swear he is taller. He towers over everyone. He hits his head on the light fixture in my kitchen.
