Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/2

Deb-I'm sorry you are having to deal with all of this. It's good you have an appointment with your doctor to discuss the test results. I was thinking what Diane Sue mentioned, maybe the antibiotics could have affected your BP? All the stress too. I had some high BP readings when we were going through all the stress with my father in law a few years ago. Stress and worry definitely make a difference.

This morning I did LiTE Metabolic Blast for 40 minutes and 225 calories burned. My average heart rate was 123 and maximum heart rate was 149.

Deb, maybe you can keep a record of your at home BP readings for a while to see if it goes back to normal. It’s a good idea to discuss the issue with your primary care doctor.

Diane Sue, I like most of the JS workouts that I have from her Walk Strong programs. I have a couple of her single dvds that I don’t care for as much and that I never use.

Valerie, I don’t manually enter my activities into the WW app. It syncs with my Fitbit and automatically adds activity points. I don’t really pay much attention to them.

Hello to Judy.

Carolyn one of the issues with fitness trackers is they don't do well with cycling. just because your arms don't move a lot, does not mean its not tough! same issue with road riding or mt biking, I think trackers under report. I do those activities a lot so have skipped fitness trackers because of that. several activities I've done have levels of intensity . sitting on an exercise bike, leisurely pedaling would not be a huge burner, but spinning is not the same. it's very intense. I was surprised there were no levels of intensity there. I will ask. think I will do well on WW this time. I assume my starting weight was what I weighed at doctors office about 10 days ago. we were just leaving for MT and I don't have a scale there. as of today I am down 3 lbs. It feels accurate to me by fit of jeans.
Deb where are you?

Today I did Lite Cardio Party, 39 minutes, 217 calories, heart rate 133/176, 3,983 steps. I then did Coffey Fit Raw Core Moves, 25 minutes, 78 calories, heart rate 113/146, 211 steps. I finished with Jessica Smith Gentle Yoga chest and back, 22 minutes, 79/129 heart rate, 21 calories, 25 steps
Total time was 86 minutes, 316 calories, 4,219 steps. My new Fit Bit Versa seems to have reverted to really low calorie burns since the update last week.

Valerie, I hate that there is not a lot of credit for spinning workouts. Cathe's are tough. Nice work on the weight loss. I think I would use my spin bike if it gave me excellent readings on my Fit Bit. I like the numbers. Kelly Coffey does some of her spin bike with alternating lifting arms out in front and some things like that. Not enough to make a huge difference though.

Carolyn, so far I like the Walk Strong workouts that I have and the ones I have done on YouTube. I watched some previews on line of her workouts.

the spin workouts are the hardest things I do. mountain biking can be tough, but it goes from very intense to easy, since whatever hill you ride up usually has a downhill following. fitness trackers don't work well for biking, at least none I have reviewed. I have a normally slower heart rate. 145 -155 is top of the scale. I get the same work done as someone whose rate is 170, so another area where I think fitness tracker might not be accurate.
I'm getting a little tired of the same spins. music mainly. I will look at KCM too. I think I have DH convinced we should get another spin bike for Montana. he doesn't think the rower is intense enough. he wanted an elliptical/ Nordic track but they're too big for the room.

its really messy over there, glad we left when we did.

Valerie, so many trackers and apps use met values which can never be accurate because we are all different. I never match up to Cathe's Met values for her workouts. I was using Map My Fitness to track having it linked to my Fit Bit and it was doing well for me for most regular workouts, but when they switched to using met values it is off from where I am. I just gave up and am going by my Fitbit, which at the moment is too low after the update. . I know about where it really should be and how hard I am working. I did get a better reading on the spin bike by putting the Fitbit on my ankle, but did not like the idea that I was probably not getting something accurate, I was just making myself feel better about my readings for riding the spin bike. Plus, it is kind of hard to check the watch mid workout when it is on my ankle.

Good morning,

Today I did one of the time saver premixes from Yoga Relax. I did not record any time or calories. I need to find something that relaxes me. My BP is still spiking, even at home with our own cuff. That makes me very upset, which just makes it worse. The yoga seemed to help.

Carolyn, I know you have mentioned a few good yoga workouts in the past....are there any ex: Jessica Smith that you like a lot? keeping it to about 30 minutes?

Diane Sue, it sounds like what you said about the chicken packaging may be correct....charge you for a higher weight that is not the actual weight. Are these packaged at Walmart? If so, I would bring it back, or have someone weigh them there before you purchase it. I don't know much about Walmart, do they have a regular meat department with butchers etc? What about treats that Gertie is getting? quantity? type? Does she only do well with salmon? what about beef or turkey? You could make your own dehydrated treat sticks from ground turkey.

Judy, thank you. I think it may be stress too, but have no way to tell. I hope the second stress test results come back ok....of course, that is stressing me too. I will probably get the results in my portal before the appointment with my DR, but I am afraid to open them. :( ..

Valerie, good job on the weight loss! :)

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

I did 30 min on the elliptical yesterday at level 9. Not easy but not top of the scale either. about 3800 steps. I don’t pay much attention to calorie burn.
We bought a new mattress for me yesterday with delivery today. Old one was 25 yo. It wasn’t used all those years but I’m getting a backache from it that went away with a couple days in Montana so time to replace.

Well yes, I 'd get stressed because I needed to repeat the stress test! I lose sleep over things like that. What would help me most would be a really vigorous workout. Trying to relax because I think I should would backfire on me. I need to distract myself and a long hard workout would help the most. Just saying what works for me. I need to distract my brain from the completely ridiculous "worst case scenario" ideas that pop into my head when I feel stressed. my DH is the same way. Deb I hope you can get past this quickly.

Quick check in. I have to pick up my youngest grandson from school for early release and his older brother is coming over to borrow my car so he can take his car to the shop again.
I did Coffey Fit Raw Cardio Overload version 2, 32 minutes, 147 calories, heart rate 118/153, 2,766 steps, wearing my 8# vest. I then did Raw Intervals #1 35 minutes, 169 calories, hert rate 127/155, 2,700 steps using 3# dumbbells. I finished with Step Boss Chair stretch, 17 minutes, 21 calories, 56 steps. Total time was 84 minutes,
333 calories, 5,522 steps

This morning I did Rev’d Up Rumble for 41 minutes and 293 calories burned. My average heart rate was 131 and maximum heart rate was 156.

Deb, I like Jessica Smith’s Gentle Yoga and Jane Adams’ Gentle Yoga 7 Practices for Your Day. There are some apps and websites for short controlled breathing practices which help with relaxation. In my materials from the NG’s they have a short section on stress busters. You might have that in your materials, too. WW partners with Headspace on the app and they have short breathing and relaxation exercises. Something like that might help you to relax and get control of your thoughts.

Valerie, I’m sure that you will enjoy the new mattress.

Diane Sue, it’s good that you could get in a workout before going out. I always feel better if I can do that.

Hello to Judy.

Deb, I am sorry that you are still having blood pressure spikes at home as well. Maybe look for yoga that is for relaxing. I think I saw a Jessica one like that when I was looking. Slow ones with relaxing breathing added. I have times that I know mine would be up just from worry or feeling anxious, which is happening a lot lately. I wish I did not take so many things to heart like I do. I am sure this is probably making things worse. I have used the Fit bit relax app with the breathing and it sort of helps. Often we worry more than we need to.
Gertie, can eat some turkey. When we have turkey I always save some in a freezer bag and give her turkey bits for treats. I keep trying to find packaged treats that work. Oddly, she seems to be doing okay with some grain free treats that look like little paw prints. I can't think of the brand. It keeps her from getting so many larger more calorie dense treats. She does love the homemade ones though. Life has been kind of hectic lately here and making treats is time consuming. But, mostly I have kept her on a seafood type diet. I new I was running out of dog food recently and Amazon didn't get it out as fast as usual. I picked up a couple of cans of Purina Beyond grain free seafood and she did okay with it. I don't like canned dog food though. It is the canned stuff that gets the most recalls. Plus you pay for a lot of water. I think when her food gets low I will try some smaller bags of other dog food and see how she does.
Walmart has their meats already packaged and out. This was their no antibiotics used chicken. I had this happen once before, but at another grocer and I just thought the package looked so underfilled for being 1 lb of ground beef. I took it to the fruits and veggie area and weighed it and it was 3/4 of a lb. So, I am betting it is a common practice. I am going to start keeping track. I don't remember seeing scales in Walmart Market.
I don't think the Styrofoam trays weigh that much if that would be the difference. Not a whole half a pound. I went to Sprouts today and bought some more chicken so I could make my soup.
I have an app called Spiritual Sleep Therapy that a friend got me to get and it relaxes me. Even during the day if I just lie down and listen to one of the sessions, I generally tend to want to nod off. I got it through Google Play Store. Kelly mentioned something on her group on facebook about something like that that she listens too. I think there are a lot of sleep and relaxation apps out there.

Valerie, speaking of worse case scenarios, my oldest daughter can bring those up when I am already worried. Sometimes I wish she didn't do that. Must be the doctor in her or something. She is a major worry wort and needs everything in line and planned out to run smoothly months before events. But, I get you on what works. I just lie in bed all night and try to get my mind off of the many things I am worried about that floods my mind. I fall asleep and wake up an hour later only to lie there and think. Funny that I can do a hard workout, get some lunch and sit here and want to take a nap. I remember when we had a water bed I had back aches all of the time. Both my husband and I realized after we went on vacation and sleeping on a regular bed that it was the water bed causing the back aches. I am sure you will be pleased with the new bed.

Carolyn, both of those yoga practices are good. I always feel like I have missed something when I have to go out and skip my workouts. I pushed to get started right away this morning. Every time I cough today I feel the soreness in my abs from yesterdays Core Moves that Kelly does with the stability ball. I have not done that one in quite some time since it has the pikes on the ball and plank pledges with the feet on the ball and stuff. It just was/is not shoulder friendly when in pain. Now my midsection is feeling it.

DH and I always laugh at the completely ridiculous scenarios we come up with when in reality it’s always something simple and way less traumatic.

I did chiseled upper body and core 1.

Today I did PHA 3, rounds 1A and 2B. My time was 36 minutes with 180 calories burned. My average heart rate was 118 and maximum heart rate was 156. I also did Jessica Smith’s Gentle Yoga Total Body practice for 21 minutes and 42 calories burned.

Hello to everyone and have a great day.

Hi Everyone,

Wednesday I did a 90 Min Power Zone Endurance ride (my first 90 minute Peloton ride), Thursday I did RWH Chest, Shoulders & Triceps and yesterday was 20 minutes of Peloton Restorative Yoga before work. Today I did 45 minutes of Peloton rides. It snowed all morning and it looks like we will get some more next week.

Deb-I don't blame you for being afraid to open the test results before you see your doctor. I hope everything is ok and that you can get closure on this. I know how stressful and worrying it must be. I agree with Carolyn about Jessica Smith's Gentle Yoga. If you have Amazon Prime you might find some good relaxing yoga sessions there too.

Valerie-I'm the same way, I need a long hard workout to distract myself whenever I am worried about something. It's one of the things that kept me running marathons when I was younger. I had a lot of stress and running helped.

Diane Sue-I'll have to check that Spiritual Sleep Therapy app out. I started the "Sleepio" program a few weeks ago. It was offered as a benefit to Home Depot employees so I decided to try it out. So far it seems to be helping a little.

Carolyn-Great workouts this week!

Judy

I did cathe’s yoga max for first time. Got it for DH in November but he hasn’t tried it. Been years since I did yoga but it felt good and I could do most of it. I always need to be near a support for balances but its pleasant and not hard. I'm pretty flexible except for lotus/ firelog positions. my hips/ knees dont do those 'directions.

wow judy, 90 min min on a indoor bike. I cant imagine it.

Deb sometimes test results come in very technical terms that might be upsetting if you don't know how to "interpret" them. you should wait until someone can explain in plain english. I don't mean that to be insulting at all, the language itself is intimidating.

This morning I did Step Boss I Max 4, 45 minutes, heart rate 117 average, 154 max, 207 calories, 4,309 steps. I then did Kelly Coffey Body Design yoga and cooldown, 13 minutes, 37 calories followed by Jane Adams Gentle Yoga Morning Energy + an upper body stretch from Amazon Prime "Lumowell" 24 minutes, 26 calories, heart rate 82/124, 54 steps. Total time was 82 minutes, 270 calories, 4,363 steps. I did not get the steps for Body Design yoga as I forgot to start my watch. I just used a previous reading on MFP.
I need to go to Fit Bit and see if there is a reason this last update has lowered everything. I know I am not the only one this is happening too.
The Lumowell stretches are free on Prime and they just have a picture showing the move and a timer with a circle that tells you to breathe in and to breathe out. Not very exciting, but it gave me some extra stretches that were held for 30 seconds.

Valerie, I keep forgetting Chiseled upper body. I like that one. I have to be careful on some of those yoga moves. I think I hurt my knee recently trying to push my knee out further like the instructor because it tends to not want to move out. I shouldn't have tried to force it there. I don't use Cathe's that often. I do not know why. I just like some others better.

Carolyn, you got the calorie burn I usually get with that JS yoga workout. I really do not know why I suddenly am getting half the calories I normally do. I think I could have got the calories I got today just sitting in a chair for that amount of time. Someone else that is having the same problem with their Versa 2 says hers has said something about calibrating it. I have no clue what that is. I tried rebooting everything after the update recently. It did not help.

Judy, that is nice that Peloton has some yoga too. Nice work on the rides. I used to use a sleep app when my husband was out of country to help me fall asleep. I never heard the whole thing because I would fall asleep shortly after it started. I did not like being alone so much and was always afraid of having one of my terrible nightmares without my husband being there to wake me up. Fortunately that rarely happened. When it does though I am sometimes afraid to go back to bed. Interesting that Home Depot offered a sleep app.
