Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/12/2023

covid test is still negative. he thinks its the flu tho he got a flu shot last fall, but it doesn't cover for every flu bug. he is better this morning. not good but better. we get different symptoms even if we get the same bug. I seldom get any chest involvement and get mostly sinus, head and throat, where he gets chest but not sinus. He has body aches and a temp but food tastes fine. we will both be taking things easy for several more days. I'm not assuming I wont get this. very hard to avoid contact in the same house. I had supplies but most outdated in about 2018. there must be a lot of people sick right now because the shelves at Rite Aid were practically empty.

we used to run thru this kind of URI a few times a year, but when he retired, it stopped happening. I hadn't thought about cough syrup, spray, cough drops in years. we are now re-supplied. I will take extra to our vacation house where we actually have more guests and a drug store is a much longer drive. a little past outdate is fine but 5+ yrs is too much.

we don't play TV for background noise like DH's family does. we turn it on to watch "whatever" and then turn it off. we are used to quiet. we had a good time there but it's different. they leave their furnace on all night so every time it came on or off it woke me up. its very different for us.

wow 9 1/2 hours sounds great. I love it when I sleep that long but it doesn't happen often. 4 yo's are just loud. he is a sweet kid but used to a lot of attention.

Today I did all CDorner workouts. I started with Cardio Tabata Step 31 minutes, heart rate 119/145,142 calories, 2029 steps. This was not too bad for impact. I subbed a step(tada) for a jump on the box move and the thruster with a walk back, otherwise I did what they did. There is a timer for 20/10 on the tabatas of two moves done 4 times, a bonus 2-minute fast feet like football, and ending with a two-move ab tabata.
I then did Low Impact Basic Step Aerobics workout for beginners, 31 minutes, heart rate 130/162, 165 calories, 2,812 steps. This was # 167-A. I did the 167-B Intermediate before which has a few different movements to it. I finished with CDorner20 minute easy back stretch/lower back refresh routine. 17 minutes, 28 calories, heart rate 78/99. This is an older one and the moves are all ones I have used in lots of stretches, but she holds the stretches longer with a timer. It really helped because my back hurt this morning. I think those windmills with the dumbbells yesterday and another move that I did make it achy. I slept with my wedge under my knees last night to help my back.
It was a busy morning as my husband got up after a couple of hours of sleep needing to get his new Jeep Rubicon truck into the shop. It is crazy as he has 2,000 miles on it and 4 times now when stopped at a light or drive through it just decides to surge and jerk forward till my husband slams hard on the brakes. It did it in the garage when we had been out the other day and I am glad the garage door was not coming down. I read online that some other people have had it happen and one said his Jeep met his workbench in his garage. We were in a Braum's pick up line and it surged forward past the window one day. Any way I monitored his phone so he could go back to bed because the dealership was trying to find a loaner car so they can try to get the Jeep Truck in as soon as possible.

Carolyn, great job on P30 Perfect Pump Lower Body. When I first tried that chair stretch, I was not impressed, but then it grew on me and I really like it. I use some of those stretches when I am sitting in the mornings to help loosen the kinks out. I have made meals before without a list and it would be so frustrating to have purchased things for one of the items and forget to make it. I make check lists when I go on vacations so I can be sure that cell phone cords, just in case meds, glasses etc all get packed up. Which I will be doing next month since we are going out of state for our 50th anniversary.

Valerie, I think flu sometimes is much worse than Covid for some people. We used to get sick a lot more when I did daycare, and my husband was teaching the Drug resistance program in schools. I have missed the flu several times when my husband got it. One of the worst flus I did get was after a flu shot. Then not long after I got pneumonia. I don't want to ever do that again. I made sure I did not have any appointments with doctors during flu season as I would rather stay out of the crowded waiting rooms. Sleeping that long is rare for me. I could tell I needed it,,but did not expect it to happen.

Today I did Rock’m Sock’m kickboxing, timesaver premix, for 35 minutes and 269 calories burned. My average heart rate was 138 and maximum heart rate was 164.

Diane Sue, great job with your CDorner workouts. Your husband’s vehicle surging forward for no reason is scary. Hopefully the dealership will get it repaired very quickly.

Waving hello to Everyone. Have a great day.

We were supposed to get bad weather yesterday so I had decided to wait and shop today. Then by about 9:30 it was looking like it was going to hold off, so I did a very fast shopping trip. Might have been a record as it was only 2 1/2 hours and I have nearly over an hour in driving time. It was raining from the time I headed home until about our exit. But, it's a good thing I did go since by evening we had some freezing rain and then a bit of snow. No school here today. Ice and dirt roads is a really bad combo, but my brother works in Okemos (next to E. Lansing) and he said the roads there were a sheet of ice. He has to go in no matter what.

So, no workout yesterday, as I was getting ready to when I switched gears. I was supposed to do total body today and got about 8 minutes in and stopped. I'd forgotten to freeze the bananas for my smoothie bowl this morning, so had to drink my smoothie, which I an do much faster than I eat it in a bowl even though it's the exact same ingredients. Before that I always drink a quart of water, and then I follow the smoothie with my morning tea. Generally, I can workout right afterwards without any issues, but today my stomach was feeling extra sloshy. LOL I just really need to get back to working out before breakfast which I did for decades, and just have never successfully managed it regularly since the boys stopped homeschooling. Which was not yesterday.

Valerie I'm sorry to hear that your husband is sick. Hopefully, tests for COVID continue to be negative. There's a fair amount of other stuff going around right now.

Carolyn great job with Boogie I. T., PP Lower Body and stretch. One of the students was upgraded to stable, but the others are still critical.

Judy nice job with the Peloton rides, core and strength workouts.

Diane Sue great job with Chiseled Upper Body and mobility workouts.

I am still ok and he is still testing negative. so URI or flu, inconvenient and unpleasant, makes him angry, but not life threatening. I dont feel like I entirely escaped because Im so darn tired but no other sxs. the lack of shelf stock at the pharmacy makes me thing we arent alone on this. shelf was almost empty.

cathy its sad. people wounded that badly, even if they live, their lives are forever changed. medicine can fix a lot of physical damage but likely not all. the mental issues wont ever go away. is there anyone who goes to school , shopping mall, grocery store, theater, concert, night club, who doesnt keep an eye on exits and listen for gunfire? think about a safe place to go if something happens? I always looked for the emergency exits on airplanes and thought I was over-the-top.... but now I do it in retail stores. this shooting epidemic has changed the lives of everyone. During the pandemic our jerk neighbor target practicing in his yard with a high caliber weapon. kids were 'at school" on zoom. you could hear the gunfire clearly in the background. wonder how much learning happened that day? I walked down the road, took a picture of him plus address and posted it. in minutes I had people informing me about how it was "his right" to fire his weapons, and saying I should have gone into his yard and "talked to him". Really.... are you kidding?

diane sue that is terribly about the jeep!. so dangerous especially if the cause is unknown. is it on a recall ?you dont have any luck with cars!

Just finished Kick, Box and Bag. Really like that one. Very few jacks. :)

Valerie I do think about what I'd do pretty much everywhere if there is a shooting. Worked in a school for six years and it was always in the back of my mind. We did several trainings with the county PD that were actually very helpful when it came to planning. At one point during our simulations, I was in a HS classroom with a few teachers and they were pretty frank about the fact that if kids wanted to go out the window they weren't going to tell them not to, at that point they couldn't tell them they could, though I think that's changed. Teachers were talking about the fact that they knew they had students who were not physically capable of running, and so were a number of teachers. And while a lot of rooms had windows, not all did. But, HS and MS were in very different situations from elementary teachers. Elementary teachers really didn't have the options, that those with older, more independent, students had. And, the school staff had info that the students didn't have about what they had available to them in case of a shooting. Students were deliberately not told because it is so often students who become shooters, and they did not want them in possession of info that would assist their planning.

First off, DH is getting seen this morning as he isnt any better tho still neg test. tried to get him to go yesterday but didnt happen. could be plain old bronchitis or RSV or maybe covid that is slow to turn positive.

will someone else please start the thread tomorrow?

cathy there is an entire field of products developed and sold to deal with potential shootings and threats. bullet proof tables that can be used as shields, bullet proof glass, bullet proof school backpacks. on and on. long story in the NYT this morning. Columbine was more than 20 years ago. on we go with an endless cycle of gun violence. I used to LOVE school. not sure how I'd feel if I were young today.

he is back and its what we thought, flu with bronchitis. not covid. not that it makes him feel much better. I need to pick up some meds shortly. the family we spent time with last weekend are still ok. no way to figure where he picked this up and I didn't because we traveled together, slept in the same bed which we usually dont do, and so on. he's sore from all the coughing with all the related issues. a lot of worries put to rest as thi is not anything that cant be treated easily.

I’m taking a rest day today. I went to the specialty grocery store to get some items that my husband likes to have on hand. He’s very easygoing so I don’t mind indulging him occasionally.

Cathy, nice job with Kick, Box, and Bag. I see that Cathy is doing Live classes again with coaching only.

Valerie, I’m glad that your husband decided to see someone to find out what’s going on with him. I used to love school too. I can’t I imagine how I would feel as a student today. My grandchildren just accept the safety drills as something that everyone does.

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue.

Valerie, I'll start the thread tomorrow. I hope your husband feels better soon.

This morning I did CDorner step aerobics Int/Adv 63 minutes, heart rate 118/155,270 calories. This was fun and challenging on some of the choreography,. I have done enough of Chris' stuff that they are not doo difficult. She had some flubs on her part which threw me off on the last one and it took me a round of stumbling before I was back on track. She had two other women with her today celebrating Amanda's birthday. I actually did the first part with warm up for 8 minutes with the yoga setting , so just changed the name to cardio, so this was another 8 minutes and 39, 98/108 heart. calories as I started over with the cardio setting. I finished off with Coffey Fit Raw Roll it Out. I Was worried with this as she did moves backward over the on her lower back and also from lower back over into a pow. I did not do that I just rolled out my traps and shoulders on the tight spots. My lower back is fine today, I am not trying something that I have read is not a good idea. Also she rolled through the entire back to hips and I try not to roll up and down the spine like that. I am disappointed and checked a couple of places like Cleveland Clinic and think it was a good idea not to go that far into it. Chris always finds the knots and says to lay on them to loosen them where they have the knots. FOam Rolling with a couple minutes extra time was 16 minutes 25 calories.
Total time spent was 87 minutes, 334 calories, 5,901 steps.
