Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/1

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did a ruthless workout and it felt good to do an early morning workout. Did not workout tonight as I am still covering mailroom until my person comes back from gall bladder surgery. Wednesday is package day and it is very physical. Felt this morning's workout will have to do.

Valerie...yes please send me the info on your antenna as I would like to look into it. We are very excited about this transition and hoping February is our last cable bill. Hoping the weather clears for you.

Lynda...I bet you wish you were still at the ranch. Heard Monday is going to be nasty. We have so much snow it is ridiculous. Tomorrow I will post some pictures. The snow is waist deep in my yard right now. My poor little chihuahua refuses to go out because of the snow and cold. She is 14 and a little diva. Fortunatly she is also trained on training pads so she will do her business there when she is not in the "mood" to go out. This is where the diva comes in. At her age we have put up with this attitude! Congrats on your 7lb loss!!! That is great!!!!

Deb...they were talking about the vitamins today on the news. That is so wrong! The snow here is so ridiculous right now. I am getting depressed knowing more is coming. Again thanks for the antenna link. I did order one from amazon and it will be here tomorrow. Can't wait to try it out.

Josie...comgrats on the 5.5 loss!!! Awesome!! I like boot camp workouts. This weekend when I did the lower body Hiit workout combined with the abs it felt like Cathe's original bootcamp and it just flew by. Glad you are enjoying your trainer.

Judy...Rides Florida sounds lovely right now. I do not have her turbo tower and remember when you found one. I tried to find one but was not successful. I ended up buying a squat rack though on craigs list and a portable barre on amazon. I love them both and very happy with my purchases and glad it worked out this way for me.

Have a great night all!

Good morning & Happy Thursday!

I got up and did HIIT Chest Shoulders & Triceps, a premix with 2 sets, no finishers. Short, but it still gets in there.

Valerie, it sounds like the bathroom is getting there! I never heard the term "pineapple express storm" ? why the pineapple reference?

Lynda, I didn't realize that the governor lived next door to you...that would really improve any services for sure. :) Did you consider going to Mexico while you were in SD? Tecate is right there..

Josie, You and your DH are doing so great with the training! I could use a Chinese foot massage. I love facials, but not body massages.

Judy, good for you for taking some time off to regroup and relax! I agree on the supplements, they are sometimes scary in what they have in them. Herbs etc are not something to play around with, especially if someone is on other meds. You never know what interaction you could have. Funny you are not into football. ( I'm not either) with where you live....isn't the UM a really big football university? you are near or in Ann Arbor right?

Leaving Sunday for Tucson, where it is in the high 70's...can't wait for some warmth!

Work, then home to

Good Morning,

Deb-yes, UM stadium is in Ann Arbor and football is a big thing there. We live about 30 minutes away from there. Traffic is always crazy when there are home games. Tucson sounds so nice right now! It's only 4 degrees out with windchills below zero.

"Pineapple express" is a weather term for a stream of warm moisture laden clouds in the Pacific that stretch from here to Hawaii. usually carries a LOT of moisture and goes on for several days. California will benefit from it this time, though most times it is focused right on the northwest. Might be a local term... like we hear references to nor'easters for you New England folks? My sympathy for all the snow. we've had years like that and I don't envy you.

It's funny how some expressions are so regional..... we have been totally buried with '12th man" stuff representing the Seahawks fan base. there are huge flags and banners with 12 on them everywhere, hanging from the space needle, from office towers, flags on cars, 12 is everywhere. T-shirts... manicures . blue /green manicures , blue green hair. along with tattoos and hair cuts with the sea hawk symbol carved into hair cuts. but I didn't realize that the "12 th man" is localized here. I've followed this a little but am not a diehard sports fan.

I did another shorter spin workout and core 1, and my shoulder exercises. cyclemax without the screen timer. amazing how attached I've gotten to that little countdown timer. but I had dinner in the oven for 30 min so I had to shorten it by 5 min.

congrats on the weight loss Josie & Lynda. I wish I were having that kind of success. I'm dropping WW this month when my paid period ends. they are sticking with the "sign in" business EVERY time you go to their page and I'm tired of it.

Lori I'll look up the antenna. Winegard was the brand. I know we tried a smaller one from BB but we couldn't get it to work. but all the details are fuzzy... we might have been trying it with Roku, which also didn't work for us. we just kept trying until we got a combination that worked. seems like everything works for someone somewhere.

These was taken on Monday during the storm and we have had a lot more snow since! You now can barely see the top of the fence in the side yard. The two mounds are my grills. Guess no grilling for a while!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Flextrain (56:36).

Wow, Lori, that is a lot of snow! We have definitely not been hit as hard in western Mass, but it just keeps coming. Now they are saying to get ready for another Arctic blast tonight. I feel bad for DH who has to work outside in this weather. He also has one batch of ornery Berkshire pigs. They ganged up on one of their own and nearly mauled it to death. DH has put the guy in isolation and is hoping he'll make it.

Deb, Jane Swift didn't last long as governor--Mitt bought her off so he could run. They have a big house next door, but they are currently renting it a lot because she is up at Middlebury working on behalf of their language programs. When she was governor, she had state police at her house, and our teenaged sons didn't much care for their presence. They were constantly coming over to check on their friends who would come up to see them or pick them up for a school event.

Deb, Tecate IS in Mexico. We had to go through their security coming and going to Rancho la Puerta. I'm sure you will be enjoying that Tucson weather. It was a very rude awakening to come back to this weather.

Stay warm everyone!

Good evening ladies!

This morning was a ruthless workout and tonight was Cathe's live long strong legs. This consisted of weights then ending in barre. I skipped the barre as I felt I had a great workout and want to do a barre tomorrow.

Lynda...funny I completely forgot about Jane Swift! Well glad she lived out that way because you still would not have cable. The snow is ridiculous. We received 5 inches last night and I am hearing 15 to 20 is coming on Monday. This has been just terrible. You do not even see any of the grills anymore! My poor doggies. Even Chester seems to be done with it. We tried clearing a path for him but he likes more space so he is not happy. So sad about the pig. Hope he makes it.

Valerie...thanks for the name of the satelite. I was on amazon checking them out. So many choices. I did order an antenna the other day just to try out. I want to try several before I decide which to keep. Want to make sure we are getting the best reception. It was suppose to arrive today but it did not. All day it said it was out for delivery but nope nothing. Hoping it is delivered tomorrow. I know there was a movie called Pineapple Express but I did not know what it meant either!

Deb...oh to be in Arizona right now!! Sometimes short weight workouts are all you need. I love all her premixes in this series. I think people were dissapointed with the last set and she listened. You must be really looking forward to retirement. I am a ways off so I will continue to live retirement vicariously thru you, Valerie, Josie and Lynda until I do!!!

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Good morning & Happy Friday!

It's a balmy 11 degrees here right now. I did a treadmill workout this morning. Nice that you don't even have to think about anything like what weight to use, or whether I have to modify etc.

Judy, wow...4 degrees is tough....funny how we get excited about temps in the double digits!

Valerie, "the 12th man" is a common phrase around here too. When are you leaving for your trip?

Lynda, I think Tecate is on in both sides, in CA and Mexico...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tecate,_California Talk about border security, in Arizona there are security check points if you get within 25 miles from the border...I can't wait to get into warmer weather, I just wish I didn't have to take plane to get there!

Lori, yep you got some snow there! I don't even remember what Cathe's last series was...

Hi to Josie,

Work, then agility class tonight. Stay warm,

Lori I am having DH look up which antenna we bought. but with all that snow you won't be installing a roof antenna any time soon, unless the snow reaches such depth that the roof top is just a step away! I remember seeing houses in northern WI that had doors on the second floor because snow used to be deep enough there to need it. No way to tell if it's true but I remember asking why there were "doors to nowhere" and that's what I was told.
I don't remember a movie named Pineapple Express but the term is used often by TV weather people here. It's about 55 degrees ...had our windows open last night, gusty, windy and rainy. our plan is leave sunday since it will be raining everywhere we plan thru monday. California needs the water badly so I'm not complaining.

Did another spin yesterday, Ride. also shoulder work. I've had no more discomfort so I will skip further PT and move into light weights.

I wondered if the 12th man was particular to here... wonder where it started?

we haven't been to Tucson in a long time. once we hit when the suguaros were blooming in the desert. it was so beautiful and interesting. we'd go out to some remote spot for sunset and listen to the evening chorus of birds and coyotes.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Low Impact #2 with abs 1 premix (36:42).

Sooooo cold here this morning.

I've never heard of the 12th man. What does it mean?

Lori, this is really too much for us non-skiers. If it warms up a bit, though, I might do some snowshoeing next week. Max doesn't seem to mind the snow. His coat is incredible this year. What made you decide to give up cable?

Deb, Rancho La Puerta is definitely in Mexico. I know what you mean about taking a plane to get to some place warm. I think the only direct flight to somewhere warm from Albany is Florida. Everywhere else it's always two flights.

Valerie, I would take 55 degrees with gratitude.

I will try to see a film this weekend if it's not snowing too hard.

ttfn

Hi Ladies,

Just got back fro bootcamp. It was 59 degrees here and foggy, this was my third session with Big Mike :). Tomorrow I'm going to body pump and Sunday is my day off.

Deb, I lived in Tucson for 3 years from the age of 13 then we moved to LA. I used to love the dessert in the spring. The beautiful colors of the cactus were amazing.

Valerie, what part of California are you traveling to?

Have a safe weekend and keep warm.

Josie

56 degrees here and raining lightly with more to come. Josie, we were going to Fresno to visit DH's family but they're not going to be free so bn not for sure anymore. visitingPinnacles which is now a national park, and then Morro Bay and the parks near there. SIL &BIL rented a house there. will visit with them, and also our niece who will come from Sacramento. we've changed our plans so many times I'm not even sure myself........... some hiking and mt biking and kayaking. not a long complicated trip.

I looked up 12th man and it's been around a long time 1900 -ish. sometimes it's 11th man, or 13th man depending on the sport. refers to the fan base who support the team. anyway, seahawks fans really picked up on it and took it to the extreme. 12th man is everywhere!

Good evening ladies!

Today I had an early morning doctors appt so no workout. Then by the time I got home I wasn't feeling it.

Was 1 degree when I left the house today!!!! Thought I'd mention this since you girls were talking about balmy weather!! lol!!

One of the antenna's came in today. I had it shipped to the office. We hooked it up to our kitchen TV and it was amazing. We were able to get 23 channels clearly. So of course I was excited to try it at home....and I did...and we got nothing! Not even 1 channel. I even tried it on several TV's. Nothing. I happen to have a long coaxil cable that I used and move the antenna all over the house and at windows. Nothing. :( So this tells me we should try a roof one. But not even sure if this will work. Like you Lynda we live in a rural area. But I was still hoping. So for now we are just going to go with local channels and cut everything else.

Lynda...we decided to cut because we really do not take full advantage of all the channels. We stream movies most of the time so to us it is a lot of wasted money. Our cable bill is out of control. So I guess we will keep cable but for local channels only. This should greatly reduce our bill. Then once the mounds of snow melts we can try a roof antenna but I do not have high hopes. How is the pig?

Valerie...again thanks for the info as I will try this whenever the snow melts! Pineapple Express was one of those silly movies. I had no desire to see it. Completely forgot who even stars in it. Enjoy your trip. When do you leave?

Deb....same reason why I like the ruthless workouts...no equipment necessary. Just jump in and bam....great workout.

Tomorrow is girls day. My son's GF and I are spending the day shopping and then lunch at some point. Will be a fun day. Snow is coming tomorrow night and apparently it is going to be snowing until Tuesday. Oh joy.

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Good morning,

This time tomorrow I will be taking off. Hopefully the weather cooperates. We are supposed to get a storm tomorrow, starting at noon and lasting through Monday. Poor John, he will be snow blowing and digging out again.

Valerie, Tucson is lovely, once you get through the part from the airport to the resort. I am not sure exactly what it is, part of the city or a suburb, but there are a lot of run down strip malls with a lot of pawn shops. I didn't see anything like what you described. Maybe the wrong time of year. I do remember a beautiful view from my hotel room though.

Lynda, I didn't realize you were going to Mexico, I thought all along that the place was in San Diego..and you did a side trip to Tecate. Did you get to see much in San Diego? I hope your weather is ok so you can go see the movie.

Josie, I had no idea you lived in Tucson. Wow. I hope I get to see some of the color etc.

Lori, that is really strange about the antenna working at the office, but not at your house. There must be something blocking the signal. There is a web site you can go to and put in your address or something, and it will tell you what stations you should get where you are. I forgot the URL or name though. :(. Have fun with your DSG...

Skipping class today, hair cut/color instead...also skipped last nights class....I just couldn't make myself go back out after getting home and getting warm.

Have a great weekend!

Hi Ladies,

Deb, have a safe trip. We used to live in a a very nice neighborhood , my dad did his research and found us a house near the top schools in Tucson. At that time my brothers and I did not speak English.

Valerie, my grandkids live in Fresno. I love Morro Bay, that is one of the routs that we take on the ALC ride, have a safe trip.

I will be back later. I need more coffee ;)

Josie

Deb, when we were last in Tucson was at least 25 years ago. we rented a van and pulled out rear seats, left them at the rental place( imagine doing these days!) and basically went camping. Used to be easy to carry camping gear on a plane trip. we spent a night or two in a motel , but I hate motels/restaurants and avoid them if possible. I know we went to Organ Pipes which was a national monument? we did a backpack in the mountains but it was too wet and snowy ..didn't expect that. we drove out on a road called Raceway or Speedway until it was out in the desert and camped out there. the best time in the desert is early morning or evening as the sun goes down. Mid day is pretty harsh and not much to see because ..."only mad dogs and Englishmen" etc. we did some hiking...everything has spines, beware. and saw some lovely blooming cactus, ocotillo, amazing birds, even a roadrunner. one place we got chased up a tree by a herd of peccaries. I don't know if they're dangerous but we'd never seen them before and they looked mean and there were a lot of them. we perched in the tree until they moved on. Our goal is to get away from 'civilization" . there were some places in the foothill areas for hummingbirds and we went there too. santa rita maybe? we visited a wildlife area, saw screech owls. anyway that is the kind of things I do on vacation.... no golf, pool, or shopping. not for everyone. is john going with you?

Josie I was sure you had family in fresno. Morro bay and Pismo are two places many of them go for vacation. we need a break from the rain . SIL is renting a house there for 2 months. my niece sent us pictures of sea otters . I've seen them before but not close like this. we want to kayak in the bay. we'd previously stayed at BIL's house in clovis but he now has a problem neighbor who makes noise all night so that won't work anymore.

did 35 treadmill and core 1 yesterday. we plan to leave tomorrow am. I think I'll be able to post while we're traveling.
