Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/3

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, but I did go to agility class last night and had a good time. :).

Diane Sue, nice workouts yesterday, even with having to prepare for the family dinner. That is so great that you go to your grandson's wrestling matches. Yes, MFP has a lot of little bugs lately.

Carolyn, yes, the FitBit says you have to rise at least 10 feet to count as a floor. I know that I did not do 19 of them, and John certainly didn't do 15! He has one floor up to his office at work, and nothing after that.

Judy, 35??? wow...that's a lot.

Not sure what is up for today. I want to go to my friend's and have a cup of tea, and visit for a bit. It depends on how she feels and the road conditions. We were supposed to have a lot of snow yesterday. It didn't happen, but the roads look icy.

Take care,

I am feeling down lately. a combination of things. winter doldrums. I hate the xmas season and all the pressures to buy buy buy. I have reached the point where one xmas song will send me running. our ski trip didn't work yesterday so 2 fails out of 3 tries. a lot of driving for nothing. I got in a very brief workout later after I did groceries. 20 min on the spin bike and HR ab workout while dinner was heating. I can't decide on the kitty issue. I miss having a kitty around but I know our travels will be a lot simpler without a new pet.
the current political climate is beyond depressing and upsetting. I am losing sleep over it and being stressed beyond what is healthy long term. each day feels like a new shop of horrors. At first I was supportive of the #metoo movement but I think it is getting out of hand. anonymous, unsubstantiated accusations are now coming from all directions, aimed at what seems like every man on the planet. I am afraid a lot of vindictive women may be emboldened to take down men who don't deserve it and they are being ruined with no recourse. certainly there are guilty piggish men who did outrageous things but increasingly I'm feeling "we" may be tossing the baby with the bathwater.

anyway, we will go mt bike today hopefully I can work out some of my troubles. we have a stretch of nice dry sunny weather although cold.

My daughter is coming over in awhile to pick up an iphone 4 that we have. She dropped her newer iphone into water two days ago and is still paying for it.

Deb, that is great that agility was fun yesterday :)

Valerie, I am sure things will get better for you. I would not enjoy riding all over the place for nothing either. Then again, I am not a fan of car travel anyway.

Valerie, I too have wondered at all of these women coming out with accusations many years after the so called incident and then others following suit. I would think for someone to be punished there should be some very good proof and it should be investigated. I would imagine that a lot of it is not true and exaggerated. There are probably some incidents, but it has gotten out of hand. A way to get the man out of the way. I don't know, I am pretty tired of lies and deceit. I wonder how many of those women encouraged it. Not that I think the man should get away with it, but it does leave questions, because it can ruin someone's reputation and life.

This morning I did Muscle Max. My time was 1 hour 20 minutes and 287 calories burned. Average heart rate was 106 and maximum heart rate 138. It was a nice workout.

Valerie I hope you feel better soon. I know the disappointment with your outdoor activity doesn’t help. There is always so much pressure at Christmas time that it can become too much.

Deb, we live in a 2 story house and my average for stairs climbed is 12. I get more than that when I’m cleaning or doing other work that takes me up and down the stairs.

Hello to Diane Sue, Judy, and Lori.

I don't have a problem with reporting long ago events. most allegations will be "he said-she said" events because seldom do men do offensive things with an audience or recorded in some way. They count on no one believing the woman! and get away with it. when multiple women say the same things about a one man, they are very likely true, even if in the remote past. however, identifying the woman by name or picture becomes important because we ALL know what happens on the internet with trolls and anonymity. if there is no personal cost for making a charge, there are women ( and men) who will do it. women aren't above doing vicious things to punish a man for some real or imagined sleight. some men will do obnoxious horrid things if they can get away with it, and I'm sure they count on the woman being too embarrassed or lacking concrete proof to stay quiet. and then of course there were plenty of cash payouts to buy silence. Still, we need to be careful about cratering someone's entire life and career without some standards being met and it seems to be getting fast and loose with the accusations.

we had a really nice ride today, 2 hours, a little over 7 miles. we were the only ones in the entire park! 2 walkers leaving when we arrived. saw one man walking his dog outside the park. it was sunny, 60 degrees and lovely out. started out a lot colder but warmed up quickly. Made up for the last 3 frustrating days.

Carolyn, yes I agree, we set ourselves up for headaches by trying to cram too much into a couple weeks.

Hi all! Got back late last night and had to get in office early today. I am exhasuted. Just wanted to say hi and I will check back tomorrow. Hope all are doing well!

Valerie, that is good that you got in a nice ride today. It was in the 30's here today. It is supposed to warm back up into the 50's and 60's the rest of the week.

Lori, welcome back :D

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Cardio Quick Fix. This was a good mix of high and low impact, the high ones easily modified. 33 minutes, 183 calories. First "real" snowfall today...

Valerie, I am sorry you are feeling down...but good you did get in a nice ride yesterday, I hope it made you feel better. What really bothers me is that some women took money and signed agreements to keep quiet, and are breaking those contracts. I know what the men did was despicable, but why take the money, and then go against the agreement? Fame? Career booster?

Diane Sue, that's awful about your daughter's phone. John did that when fishing and it was never the same ( paid a phone repair shop $65 fo "fix")....he ended up getting a new one. Agree that there seems to be no doubts that these women are telling the truth...all they have to do is accuse, and it is taken as gospel...with no investigation, due process etc.

Carolyn, I keep forgetting what a good workout Muscle Max is....so many workouts to keep track of! LOL

Lori, you must be exhausted!

Judy, did you get a lot of snow?

A workout, then some things around here....I am not going out unless I really have to!

Take care,

Deb-We didn't get much snow yet, but it's been very cold and windy. We are supposed to get 3-4 inches this weekend.
I have to run some errands this morning, I'll check back in this afternoon.

Deb, I keep thinking I will do a live sign up again, but with new workouts coming in, I would probably not use it that much. Kellys is on the way. Some people already have theirs. I expect mine should be here later today. My daughter realized last night that her sim card does not fitbyhe iphone 4 and is going to have to deal with AT&T. I read there is usually a charge for another card. I guess they have figured out more ways to get money out of people.

Judy, I would not be happy with snow right now. I let my grandson use my car since his was totalled and he delivers oizza. It would not be a good car to have an accident in. I am glad his was built like a rock when the accident occurred and he had a seat belt on. He ended up with seat belt bruises.

Today I did Strong and Sweaty Boot camp, 46 minutes, heart rate 120 average, 148 max, 318 calories, 1,933 steps. I then did Ice Muscle Meltdown back 22 minutes, heart rate 109 average, 130 max, 102 calories, 344 steps.
Muscle Meltdown Back all exercises 12 reps 3 rounds giant sets
one arm row 30#
pullover 30# dumbbells (Cathe uses 2 15's)
one arm wide row 25#
one arm pullover 15#
deadlift 30# dbs

I feel better after the ride yesterday. we will try another mt bike today. frost on paved trails makes them too treacherous. most melts out early, but shady spots stay slippery all day. I also got a decent nights sleep.

One "principle" I was raised on .... it was pounded into me , was that no matter what..... it was always the victims fault. no matter what happened, it was your fault because you "should have known better". was it a generational thing? it not surprisingly always applied to women. so if someone was assaulted, raped, killed, did not matter who did it under what circumstances, it was the victim's fault because "she should have known better", "should not have been where she was", "should have dressed differently", it was endless. I don't think that way myself. good judgment comes with age and experience and especially young people don't have it yet! and they think they are bulletproof. especially when a older , smarter connected man is taking unfair advantage of the youth and inexperience, I think the law should recognize that.
Deb, I think women accepted money because at the time, they KNEW they would not be believed. hard proof is hard to come by. think of the cosby cases where he was doctoring drinks. he had such a good, clean, upright fatherly image, who would ever think? who would believe one person? it would make you question your own sanity.
if victims are spread out over geography and years, and don't know each other, it takes one person to speak out before others realize they were 'had" in the same underhanded way. it would take a lot of guts to be the first one because they would be discounted, like women have always been. Still, I would not take every accusation with out some corroboration... and it feels like it is slipping into that mode right now. this will lose in the long run if we let women do this anonymously.

Apple stops updating their products at around the 4-5 yr point. built in obsolesence. ( spelling?) we just found our Ipad is almost 4 yrs old so will be trading it in since we stream with it and we need to keep it current. Our TV is older and not 'smart". apple doesn't publicize it but its a way to keep you buying new things. Not sure if the same number applies to all products. I think the iphone 4 is running out of time. usually apple gives you credit for a trade in which helps a little. may be time to switch to a newer phone instead of buying for the old one.

Today I did JS WS3 Cardio Hit! This was another great workout from the series. Workout time was 31 minutes with 230 calories burned. My average heart rate was 137 and maximum heart rate 170. This was a boxing style cardio workout that could easily have been a KCM. The rotation called for Leaner Legs but I switched days since yesterday was Muscle Max and my lower body is still feeling it.

We have snow and rain falling with more snow forecast for overnight. This is very surprising weather for us for December. Tomorrow will be an ice situation when all of this freezes. I hope all is well for those in the path of this winter storm.

Deb, the Cathe Live from yesterday looks like a good one. Every time I make up my mind to cancel I see a workout that I want to try.

Diane Sue, good workout. I read that Kelly’s Build and Burn had shipped. You will probably get yours soon. I have it on my Christmas list and I am interested in what you think of the workouts. I try to give my family a list of items to choose from for gifts.

Valerie, I agree about planned obsolescence for technology and most especially smartphones. I’m glad that you got your ride in yesterday. Exercise usually makes me feel better.

Lori, welcome back. Hopefully you will get to slow down a bit now.

Hello to Judy.

Carolyn we were very surprised when we found out from apple that our several yr old ipad would not continue to be upgraded. for some uses it might not matter, but we use it for streaming so we will trade it on a new one. same way with the phones.... I don't know if there is a set number of years or if it varies by the individual product.... but I would absolutely check before spending money on a new sim card (I think that was you diane sue?) to decide if it's worth putting more money in, or if it's better to apply the $$ to a more current model. I think it was about 4 years and upgrades stop.

I did total body metabolic today. thought we'd ride again but momentum was lacking. I am not back to the weights I was using on this workout before. I went up on a few moves today, but staying about 2 lbs off my old numbers on a number of moves. a goal!.

Carolyn, I am looking forward to starting using Kelly's Build and Burn. It arrived this afternoon and I skimmed through the lower body tabatas which looked like active non weight segments and weighted segments which should be good. I did not see jumping in it. The kettle bell kickbox looked good too. I have not checked out the others yet.

Valerie, my two ipads are so many years old I cannot update them. The newest one is 6 years old. The other is several years older than that one. I use them mostly for my grandchildren. A lot of the games do not work on them and will not update. I even have some issues running video on the oldest one because things like vudu will not update on it. I can still run Amazon and Netflix though. I have a few books in them both that I have not been able to access to use on my Samsung Galaxy tablet. The iphone 4 is for my daughter to be able to have a phone since her new iphone got wet and she is still paying for it and AT&T will not let her have a new one without it costing her and her paying off the other. At least that is what she thinks. She did not buy the extended warranty. I offered a Samsung Galaxy S5 but she does not want it. It is newer than the iphone. Apple does have ways to make you spend more money. Even down to the cords that plug the phones etc. in. I find it rather annoying.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did 4DS Kickbox Legs....I did the premix that has the weights first, skipped the kickbox and did the core work. 53 Minutes 224 calories. This is a great lower body workout.

Judy, that is strange, usually we get Michigan weather the day after you have it....we had about 2 inches of snow yesterday, and the temp stayed around 32.

Diane Sue, I did not get KCM's new DVD's yet....hope I get them today. With the new KCM's and Cathe's coming soon, agree, I don't think it would be practical for you sign up for Live right now. I have the year subscription, so no choice for me. Yes, that is why I did not go with an iPhone. I feel like Apple is always finagling for more money, especially if what Valerie mentioned is true, that they stop updating older models. Yes, and all those "special" cords you have to buy that are outrageously expensive really makes me angry.

Valerie, that is really sad that you were taught that it is always the victim's fault. :(. I think there are some incidents that this could be true, but generally, a victim is just that, a "victim". I didn't know you could trade in an iPad when you get a new one. Is this at the Apple store?

Carolyn, I hope your weather is not as severe as it sounds like they are reporting. Sometimes reporters go overboard with this, I hope that is the case for you this time. Like the other day they were saying we could get up to 12 inches of snow. Didn't happen, here...yes it did in the "snow belt" areas where it is normal. Yes, that Cathe Live did look good, I put it on my "do in the future" list.

Hi to Lori...

Meeting my niece for breakfast this morning, then agility class....

Take care,

Apple’s argument is technology changes, at a point old models can’t be upgraded to current standards. You go thru the Apple store to upgrade an older model. We have not done it yet . It sort of makes sense . Their products work and sync together well. This phone works better than the android. Apple stores are always WAY busy so mid December seems like the worst time to do this. I’m no expert, believe me, so I don't know if this policy applies to ALL Apple products, or if always has, but DH has called customer service and been told this more than once now. when the security can't get updated I would want to upgrade.
Yes... accessories are expensive. we both have iphones and an iPad though, so less confusing with one system of cords and chargers since all use the same one.... at least they do now. Not sure if it costs less but less chaos is worth a lot. we used to have different phones and never had the right charger.
I know my desktop computer is having trouble with all the videos embedded in every article. I will have to replace. one day it will lock up and not unlock.

Deb, my mother & her family were all alike about victims. my grandmother lived with us so it was generational. an "automatic" response. no matter what happened, it was "her fault". sometimes got absolutely ridiculous! I think it came from fear, and gave them a way to punish and control. that way they could smugly say bad things could not happen to them. it was always girls and women who got the brunt of it. I have no idea why they believed such destructive things but it was the first thing out of their mouths. I quit talking to her about topics that would bring that kind of response. Bad things can happen to good people, we all know that. sometimes the victim used bad judgment, but the blame still rests with the victimizer. especially when talking about children and teens victimized by adults.

Today I did Kelly's Build and Burn cardio core, 28 minutes, heart rate average 128, max 161, 185 calories. This has some has more jumping than a lot of Kelly's workouts. She always has a modifier and suggestions for those who do not want to do the moves the way she is. I liked the core work which was all still very active, like a side to side crab move using the step. I then did Build and Burn Lower Body Tabata, 32 minutes(26 actual) 149 calories, heart rate average 108, max 134, done in rounds of 20 seconds work and I believe 10 rest, 4 sets in each round except the last one.
I finished off with Kickbox and Kettlebell Fusions premix of kettlebells only, 17 minutes, 114 calories, heart rate average 124, max 146, using a 20# kettlebell. Total time was 77 minutes and calories burned 448.
Build and Burn lower body tabata 4 sets each round 20 seconds on 10 rest ( I may be wrong on the times)
banded side steps 4 sets blue fire walker band
kickstand deadlifts 17.5# dumbbells 4 sets 6 reps each
squat variations 25# dumbbells 2 sets regular squats 2 sets concentrated more on 1 side
side lunge into knee pull body weight 4 sets
front and back lunges 17.5 lb dumbbells 4 sets
split stance plyo pops 4 sets
plie variations 15# dumbbells 4 sets dumbbells on shoulders or in goblet position plies toes forward, toes out, side step plie right, side step plie left
wide stance dead lift and squat up 17.5lb dumbbells 4 sets
bridges ( used a 15# on hips) they use no weight 8 sets, 4 sets singles then 4 sets same moves with pulses.

Deb, I have always thought 4 day Split was a good workout. for legs. I also have found the apple products do not keep their charge. I have family members that love them and keep an extra plug here just for them because it seems their phones are always needing charged. My Galaxy stays charged all day.

Valerie, we switched from two ipads and iphones to two Samsung Galaxy tablets, two galaxy phones, and two galaxy watches. My husband recently gave one of the watches to my grandson. They do work well together and you can recover a lot of your stuff through Samsung. One of the things I recently learned to do. Christmas time would not be the time to go to an Apple Store for repairs or help. My oldest ipad is beyond updating. I have tried. It just asks me if I want to use an earlier version of whatever app I am using. Generally that earlier version does not work.

This morning I did Leaner Legs. My time was 52 minutes and 156 calories burned. Average heart rate was 102 and maximum heart rate 137. I haven’t done Leaner Legs in a long time, but it is a basic lower body weight workout with high reps. No compound exercises and no added cardio. It’s funny how exercise trends change over the years. It’s very obvious when I do an older workout.

I have an older iPad but I rarely use it. It had become too slow for me which is why I got a new one. I don’t have a problem with my Apple devices holding a charge for a couple of days. My husband’ Samsung requires frequent charging but I think he has a lot of things running in the background. I don’t do that on my phone. I had Samsung phones for years before switching to the iPhone and I don’t see myself changing. Maybe I can get my husband to switch :).

Diane Sue, good workouts this morning. You jumped right into the new set.

Hello to everyone and have a great day.
