Pentagenarians & Beyond W/B 12/23

Deb it is so sweet of you to start this thread every week. Thank you!

Not sure what I will do today. a tiny bit sore from yesterday but no big issue. think maybe an upper body and brief cardio to warm up.

Hi,

PT exercises only. I got a shipping notice for the calendar. Does anyone else buy the Cathe calendar?

Judy, that is great that you enjoy that yoga workout. I will post some pics of Ike. He is hard to take pictures of...he only stays still when he is sleeping. :)

Valerie, I asked about the treadmill and stationery bike and the PT guy advised against it. I tried a floor cardio...forgot which, I think it was a LIve one, and had to stop for some moves, it really didn't feel like I got much out of it. I think Cathe's Basic Step would be good, as it teaches the regular step moves she uses all the time, no complicated combinations. Dis you try the workouts with just the platform?

Carolyn, good to rest your knee. I know I should be doing something, but have gotten into this "no workout" rut. I was hoping that I would be able to do the new workouts once they get here.

Diane Sue, good that you had some relief. Maybe you should see your PCP like you mentioned.

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

Deb I got a ship notice for the calendar a few days ago but didn't get it yet, unless DH intercepted it and tucked it somewhere.

Ask your PT guy about an elliptical. ellipticals are not as expensive as they used to be and give you an all over decent workout. quiet enough to watch TV while using. everything will be on sale soon for the annual rush for new years resolutions.
Even intermediate workouts will feel hard if you have not done anything for too long. can you do a warm up, core, and upper body something? I personally would stay away from floor exercises like barre. I think that's what triggered my bout of bursitis.
can't wait to see pics of your little guy.

ETA I did chiseled upper body from ICE and core 1.

Good Evening,
Today was my regular rest day. Today seemed to go by so fast. We went to Church and did various things for Christmas afterwards. I baked a German chocolate cake and cooked dinner. This is the first chance that I’ve had to sit down all afternoon! My knee feels better, so I think that resting was a good idea. I plan to try something tomorrow.

Deb, I got a shipping notice for the calendar on Friday. I order one every year. My suggestion for floor cardio is something from Jessica Smith or KCM’s Start Here.

I went to Urgent care this morning since it has been 6 days with fever and so congested. They said sinusitis. She has me on an antibiotic, and prednisone along with a cough syrup to help me sleep at night. We had a real hassle picking it all up. Walgreens left a message saying it was delayed. So we went to the family Christmas gathering. Then they texted when we there and said it was ready. We went to pick it up before they closed and they did not have the antibiotic and it would be ready Wednesday ?? We ended up going to CVS and had to call Walgreens and tell them I wanted it transferred to CVS. Anyway they had me on hold so long, the CVS Pharmacist went on his line and got them and they got it moved. While they were talking, Walgreens answered the phone and told me they could change it from tablets to capsules. I was like really, I was just told by you that they could not and I had to have the Physician okay it. I told them we really wanted it transferred to CVS. I am done with that Walgreens. They are not helpful. It seems they could have called another store to have it ready for us. But, they told me I could call around.. Someone who does not feel well, does not want to be put through all of that. On a plus side, my daughter had some Doxycyline at her house which is what I was getting and gave me a couple so I could get started right away.

I have never purchased a Cathe Calendar myself. I do have a calendar hanging in my workout room though that my husband brought home.

Deb, they had a friend use a stationary bike for rehabilitation after knee replacement surgery. I could see a spin workout being hard on the hips. So are they working on all aspects for you hip leg to build strength and mobility? Cardio is a hard one to come up with ideas. I would love to see more pictures of Ike.

Valerie, nice work getting in Ice upper. I like that one.

Good morning & Merry Christmas Eve!

PT yesterday. Today I may do a simple KCM, or maybe an ICE upper or short cardio.

Valerie, I had an elliptical, gave it to my cousin. I really did not enjoy it at all. Also, I think with the pushing downward movement, my PT guy would say it is similar to a bike, and he said not to do that.

Carolyn, thanks for the reminder about Start Here. I think I will look at that DVD and pick out something from it.

Diane Sue, I'm glad you got a diagnosis, and some meds, but not about how that Walgreen's treated you! The store manager should be told. We have had similar experiences with Walgreens. More than once they shorted John on the number of pills in the prescription. He went back and they were not even concerned. My PT exercises are to strengthen the muscles in the hip areas, eg: bridges, step ups, and this front and side stepping move where you go 10 steps in one direction frontwise, holding your leg up for a brief second, then do them sideways. 5 sets of each, going and coming back.

Hi to Judy & Lori,

Take care,

Deb....could not view the pics. It said “whoops tapatalk ran into some problems” for all three.

I know if I were you, I’d be climbing the walls by now if I couldn’t work out. I’d do anything that felt like exercise.
It feels so good to be doing upper body things again without my shoulder getting sore. I still have to be careful I don’t overdo. I’m careful with push ups especially. You will feel better if you do something! Pull out something without a dread factor and JFDI. I like core work too, guess I'm alone on that. those sound like reasonable choices.

My sister complains about Walgreens constantly. They aren’t a big factor here. I use Costco rx... happy. I used rite aid before. got tired of inefficiency and mistakes. there was a second customer at rite aid with the same name. they kept mixing up our prescriptions. that got ugly so I switched to Costco when they put a new store nearby. more efficient by far, and I am in there every week anyway.

Today I am able to breathe and fever seems to be gone. Some improvement anyway. I did Les Mills on Demand Body Flow flexibility # 79, 56 minutes, 167 calories, met 2.7. I really liked this one.I cancelled Les Mills for a bit. I do want to come back to it again, I just don't want to pay for it right now. I want to buy Cathe's new workouts so I will do it later. Keeping Kelly though :)

Deb, I could not view the pics either. Same thing as Valerie says happens. That is terrible that Walgreens shorted you on pills. I think my daughter had that happen before. This one by us is terribly busy all of the time. The CVS I went to is brand new and not far. They were not crowded at all. I have not been there in years. I know they give discounts through Silver Script on some health purchases. I should check it out.
It sounds like you are getting some strength training. I am sure not doing much cardio though is frustrating.

Valerie, I like core work as well. I hear so many say they do not care for it. I think it is an important part of fitness. I had sort of avoided CVS for years as they kind came in from another country and started putting their stores near Walgreens stores. Anyway, I prefer sticking with US businesses. I will say, CVS brand products are good quality. Most other places it is lower quality. CVS has a good selection of needs as well. I have never had a mistake made on meds at Walgreens. They are so busy all of the time though. No one wants to go in and wait in line or sit forever to get there prescription. I generally order ahead and have the text when it is ready. It would be upsetting to have your prescriptions mixed up with someone elses. I would have moved to another drug store as well.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did 4 DS Lower Body weights only and today I did XTrain All Out Low Impact HiiT, Double Cardio Premix, then 4 DS Shoulders and Core.

Deb- I couldn't see your photos either. My Cathe Calendar arrived today. I was surprised it got here before Christmas.. I agree with Carolyn, I would start with a Jessica Smith workout or KCM's Start Here. I used Start Here when I was having low back and hip problems and it worked well for me.

Diane Sue-It's good that you are seeing some improvement. We have had similar issues with Walgreens pharmacy. I prefer CVS for most things.

Valerie-I like core work too. I've actually seen some improvement in core strength this year. There are a few of Cathe's core moves that I had to modify before and now I can do them without the modification.

Hi to Carolyn and Lori!

Judy

No workout today. I decided to wait for the day after Christmas to pick up my workouts. My Cathe calendar arrived today, but I haven’t opened it yet.

Deb, the pictures are really cute. I couldn’t see the first ones that you posted.

Diane Sue, I’m so glad that you are feeling better today. I just started getting my prescriptions filled at Walgreens in October after they closed my Rite Aid store. I haven’t had any problems yet.

Judy, nice workouts this week.

Valerie, I’m the same about not being able to do my workouts. After a few days I really miss it. This week is a example of that even the I know that I need to give my knee some rest. I had planned to do something upper body today, but I had so many things to do that I decided to wait.

Hello to Lori. Have a good evening everyone.

Totally CUTE! do you think they know how cute they are??
Cathe calendar arrived today I think. I didn't open it.

Isn't CVS the pharmacy in Target stores? they probably have stand alone stores too. I don't like shopping at Target. only when I have to. I don't like their check out . Costco turned out best for me because I'm already in weekly, and they are fast and accurate.

I can only go 2 days without some kind of workout or I start to get anxious/antsy/ just not happy.
we mountain biked this morning for 1 hr 38 min. planned to do more but there were blow downs from the windstorm on Friday. we didn't bring a saw. too hard to carry bikes over the debris. we'll take one next time and clear it enough to get our bikes over. some of the horse people bring chain saws and clear things but no one has done it yet. really lovely day out, and tomorrow is supposed to be also. after all the gray and rain, its a nice break. we will xc ski tomorrow if wall works OK.
