Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/23

I am a LOTR lover and can't get enough of them!!

Today was going to be my rest day but ended up shoveling heavy snow for over 2 hours. Husband and son are at work so it was get up and do it or it was not getting done.

I am getting really excited about xtrain!

Good morning,

I am going in early again, hopefully ( not expecting though) that we finish today. It will be a miracle.

I am not a LOTR fan at all. DH is though. He went to see The Hobbit at the Imax theater by himself!! do you believe it? a guy who I have to drag to see a movie.

I am excited about Xtrain too...maybe it will get me motivated. I hope I can work them into a 4 day rotation...

I'm off.....will check back later....

I think this version of LOTR would be enough for ANY fan. I was a fan until the last segment. really... this must have been twice as long as what I'd seen before. maybe more of it was expectation on my part, plus I was tired and wanted to go to bed...and then "on to another battle".

We're watching Boardwalk right now and I'm so- so on this one. I liked it the first season but I'm not keeping the characters straight, along with the plotline. mostly dark haired males who look alike and a lot of irish, italian odd expressions too. not finding the politics of prohibition very clear with the rival groups..

deb you must be glad this inventory only happens once a year.

I did treadmill yesterday after a grocery shopping. my sister called me again but I really don'y like to talk to her so let it go to the machine.

I kind of like snow shoveling but only once or twice. we don't get snow every year. when we do we need to shovel our entire driveway about 200 yrds long and uphill and also the 3 car parking pad. it is a huge huge amount of work. there's no place to put the snow so often it needs to get moved twice. Ugh. light snow is easy but if it gets deep it becomes very troublesome. the last two years were awful. not even a serious frost yet this yr.

Hi Deb, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets (41 min.), and later will be going snowshoeing.

Poor Deb! You need a holiday from the holidays. I guess this is what it must feel like for people in retail, too. If they don't sell during the period from Black Friday through the post-holiday sales period then they are in trouble.

I'm with you, Lori, on LOTR. Frodo and Sam are so moving together.

I couldn't get into Boardwalk Empire either on HBO. I'm still working on catching up with Breaking Bad, working through season 3.

Was hoping to receive Xtrain today but nope nothing. I had it mailed to my office and called twice to see if it arrived. I stopped calling after the second time because I know they think I have Cathe issues!

Did Turbo Barr today for the first time and I was very surprise at how tough it was. A lot harder than what I anticipated. I really enjoyed it an will pull it out more often.

Have a great night ladies!

Good morning,

Did anyone get their new DVD's? I have mine coming by USPS (n could not see paying extra for UPS), and I certainly wasn't in the top 100 that pre-ordered.

Valerie, how is the kitty?

Garance, I am planning on watching Downton Abbey episodes on the iPad...if I mess the taping schedule or they throw in some fund raising and they mess it up....looking forward to seeing it again.

Lori, I read somewhere that there is a really good bonus Barre workout with the new DVD workouts. I have never tried the one that came with the LIS workouts.

I am going in today at 7:00, hoping to be out by 11:00. but you never know.

Anyone have any exciting plans for the weekend?

Deb, thanks for asking. He's doing fine just not happy. the collar is kind of big and he keeps backing up to get out of it ( not gonna work) andscraping against everything. cats tend to jump on things and this totally throws off the landing. I'm taking him back in this morning for a quick look. the staples ares till in there but mostly I want to make sure it's healing Ok. I think so, but more for my peace of mind.

Did Afterburn yesterday, the whole thing. I like that one although it's hard. need to take a few 15 second breathers in there and don't use quite as much weight. at first I didn't like it much but by working mountian climber type moves on other workouts I am doing much better on this one too.

Lori.. it'll be here when it gets here! out on west coast, I'm expecting maybe next Wed.
turbo barre was by far my least liked disk. I tried it a couple times but didn't enjoy it. it seemed to do all the things I find clumsy & difficult. I may give it another try since things change. I didn't care much for Afterburn either. I didn't order the entire LIS series on preorder, just ones I thought I'd like but it cost almost as much.

Mil is now set up for a CT to be followed with daily radiation and chemo. neither son or daughter thinks she will follow thru so time will tell. she sounds all gung ho, and the morning comes and she's not ready and starts whining about having to go anywhere. other daughter will be arriving monday to help out. we;ll see.

Hi Deb, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning was Housemax. I did receive my Xtrain dvds today with a booklet that will be very helpful. I will try to preview some of these this weekend. The workout times all look good. The longest is Cardio Leg Blast at 56:18. I think I may get 4 more risers for Burn Sets, but other than the pink boxing gloves, I have all of the equipment.

What is kitty's name, Valerie?

Deb, I think Downton Abbey begins a week from tomorrow. I will keep you advised of times. MIL and FIL want to take us out for dinner tomorrow as a thank you for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so we will be doing that. We have a party on New Year's Eve and "Casablanca" is the theme. Last year it was Paris, so this year we were told, "We will always have Paris" (Bogart's line to Bergman in Casablanca).

Lori, I did Turbo Barre every Sunday for about 3 months and really liked it. As a barre workout it seemed easier than Physique 57 or Booty Barre or Rockin' Models, which I had been doing on a weekly basis (one of them) before. More snow for us. How about you?

Puss. I know, very imaginative. I've had three cats in the last 25 years, and I called them all Puss. we call him lots of other names too. going back tothe vet now to get a check on progress.

Glad to hear yours came. Let us know what you think.

Snow Fall: The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek - Multimedia Feature - NYTimes.com

The NYT wrote a long article about an avalanche that occurred last year near here, outside of the Stevens Pass ski area. I've skied there and around there frequently in the past. the slide killed 3 people. a bunch of high level skiers. hot shots from media were here and involved to some degree, and if you like winter sports you might enjoy reading a very well written story, about how the excitement and energy put people into a place they should not have been. comon sense got lost in the euphoria. Great but sad story, with some video of the area.

ETA ...got back from the vet. Puss is doing fine but will be wearing the collar for a while. got another booster of antibiotics to make sure it stays uninfected. dumb little kitty...all this because he couldn't leave his wound alone.
and when I got my mail, there it was, a package from Cathe!. Can't believe it got here already. I'm about as far away as you can get from NJ. will try to make time to look it over this afternoon..
