Good morning,

Today I did Ripped w/HIIT Circuit Upper Body. I did the normal whole workout, with the cardio blasts, and modified where I could. There were a couple that she did that are impossible to modify. Especially the last one. It was crazy, nothing much else to say about it. I did modified jacks instead.

Valerie, I got the recipe from a book that was published by a holistic vet, named Dr Karen Becker. It's called Real Food For Cats & Dogs. She also has a vitamin//mineral mix that you add to it so that they are not lacking in that area. Most homemade diets are almost worse than commercial food because there are no vitamins etc in them. It's a mixture of chicken, turkey, liver and low oxalate vegs, and some applesauce. No grains. I did a lot of research on low oxalate diets, for both pets and humans to come up with the ingredients. It worked well for Keegan, I am stumped as to why Kylee got the crystals. Maybe it's our water. who knows?

Lori, so glad your eye is better. Also would want to ask the DR what causes this and how to prevent from happening again. Are your eyes too dry, not making tears etc?

Lynda, did you get the HIIT circuit workouts?

Hi to Josie, * Judy,

Take care,

Deb, that is quite an undertaking...the recipe I mean. (the workout sounds pretty serious too) I was mainly curious about what home made dog food would contain. crystal formation has to do with calcium in addition to oxalate and also the pH of the urine, but how to go about tweaking those is not in my knowledge. I know many vegies are higher in oxalate. I would guess it's individual doggie kidney physiology. if fed the same diet, some will form crystals, others won't. hydration probably matters too as the more concentrated urine would be more likely to form crystals. I hope you can come up with something that works.

we did floor work yesterday, so no formal workout. lots of plywood sheets hauled up and down as we finish the floor to be ready for the tile people. still waiting on the plumber who is first up. shoulder seems to be settling into not good/not bad area. bothersome sometimes and others not at all. still debating making an apt for imaging and maybe a cortisone shot.

Lori I agree with Deb, you need to know what can be done to prevent whatever the problem is from recurring. Do not want to go thru this often.
I used to use hard contacts and even though I have an astigmatism, I've been fine with soft lenses. I had trouble with my eyes being too dry to float the hard lenses occasionally, especially tired. I find as I get older I wear them less. reading or any close work is vastly better without them.

Off to do some sort of workout as soon as DH gets done. we don't work out in the same room if possible.

Hi Ladies,

No workout yesterday and today. We went to my cousins wedding yesterday, but first we had to pick up my DB in Palm Springs and then take him home. Today is back to baking and I will start preparing the Christmas feast :).

Garance, I'm in the same boat as you. I wore the hard contact lenses for 20 years an then the ophthalmologist changed them to the gas-permeable contacts. I also don't qualify for LASIK surgery because of the stigmatism.

Deb, thank you so much for your donation. I can't wait for the holidays to be over with so that I have no more interruptions with my workouts. My DH and I will start working out with our trainer on January 6th.

Lori, glad that your eye is getting better. For information on the ride go to aidslifecycle.org. It would be amazing if you and Judy can join me in 2016. Deb, Valerie and Lynda can come along and be our cheer leaders ;).

Hi to Valerie and Judy!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did 68 minutes of BarreAmped Bootcamp.

Nope, Deb, I didn't get the circuit workouts because they sounded like too much impact. The only one that has high impact is the "contrast training" on Legs, but, as I mentioned, I did modifications on that one and did some of the impact so it wasn't so bad. Funny Max story: DH lets a couple hunters who are his friends on our land during deer hunting season. They set up blinds, but Max has found them twice, and he gets so excited barking at someone hiding in brush. Sort of ruins the whole hunting thing.

Josie, I think I have the gas permeable ones too. I am sooo nearsighted. Sounds like you are going to be doing a lot of cooking.

DH won a gorgeous quilt--queen size Lone Star pattern--in a raffle for an after-prom event. It turns out to have absolutely the right colors for our master suite. A very nice surprise. A lot of people bought 3 or4 times as many tickets as DH in hopes of winning the quilt. He had forgotten about it entirely and had to search for the winning ticket.

I am currently working on my impact statement for the sentencing of the woman who killed my sister-in-law. It's very hard. I want to be eloquent and precise.

Out to dinner tonight.

we ended up doing a road ride today. 15 miles. I guess this is our standard winter length. it was 50 degrees out and so incredibly different from 40 degrees. at 40 we were on the edge of too cold, but at 50 we were too warm and kept adjusting layers. we could have gone longer easily but did it too close to lunch. my winter tights don't have padding which is ok for 15 miles. think we will mt bike tomorrow. should be about the same temp. this is looking like an el nino winter now which means mild and minimal snow.

Lynda, you will nail it.... I would not want to have you writing anything against me!

How lovely to win something..... I never win anything. My cousin's wife wins something every time she enters anything. I can't believe how many things she's won. trips, subscriptions, meals... it's frequent.

Happy Monday,

Today I did HIIT Low Impact #2 with Bonus Abs #1. The abs on this one are a little easier, but she still does those up & down planks, which I have to modify to the point where I don't even think they are useful. I do like the weighted core work though.

Valerie, it sounds like your bathroom is coming along. You will have to post pics here when it is finished. You are right, the most important thing is water intake. I have 2 bowls out, one with a core that is kept in the freezer overnight so the bowl stays cold, and I start out with ice and water in it. It's hard to make them drink.

Josie, I am with you on the holidays, and cannot wait until they are over.

Lynda, that quilt sounds lovely, How lucky your DH is! Good ole Max in finding those hunters! He probably thinks it's a game. LOL. I would be concerned that they may mistake him for a deer! So your statement is read at the sentencing? I know you will do it well, and it will make a difference.

Hi to Lori & Judy,

I am off this afternoon to go to the swearing in of my cousin's husband. He is now a state Supreme Court Judge!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Dancin' Abs (58:00).

Deb, I think the most recent picture of Max at the East Mountain Farm facebook page shows him with his orange ribbons around the neck to warn hunters. Yes, he thinks it's a game because he also knows both of the men who leave their vehicles by the barn before venturing into the woods. Are state supreme court judges in NY elected or appointed? Either way it is a great honor. The quilter is Judith Smith. I looked up her web page and there is actually a picture of the quilt DH won, with a price tag of 700 dollars! She has some other beauties there. Yes, impact statements are read at sentencing. She did a plea deal, but there are a lot of provisos to it.

It sounds like we are going to hit with a lot of rain and wind on Christmas Eve and temps in the 50s. Weird weather.

Did any of you take up my suggestion to listen to the Serial podcasts? It is so popular that they actually did a parody of it on SNL this Saturday. I thoroughly enjoyed it and think the evidence is so thin this boy never should have been convicted. The Innocence Project is now taking up his case with a request for DNA testing. I'm sure there will be a follow up podcast on this.

Josie, most of the cooking for our Christmas Day meal is on Christmas Day, so I feel relatively free.

I had oysters and mussels again last night. DH had short ribs, polenta and veggies, and an apple fritter. Complementary mushroom dish and a salad with a veggie I can never remember the name of--crunchy root vegetable with a strange porcupine appearance. It was very good, as were the mushrooms.

we did a mt bike today, not the one planned but didn't feel like a big drive, so did a close one at the tree farm. still a hard 2 hours. going uphill is a lot of work. mt bikes are heavier with big tires...not at all like a road bike. I can ride thru a lot more sloppy stuff on the way without losing traction like I used to. practice helps.

Mammogram tomorrow early.

deb, how cool to have a supreme in the family! I will try to do pics but so far, nothing is done except for what we did in the closet and that's not photogenic. we want to make sure of a few things before we add more hanging areas so we do it only once at the right height. plumber is not exactly overwhelming us with attention. thought he'd be here tomorrow but not a word so far.

Good morning,

Today I did Cathe RWHIIT Circuit Lower Body...that was hard and I did the premix without the cardio blasts! I can't even imagine doing that workout in it's entirety. So glad she put in the premixes that she did.

The swearing in ceremony was nice, interesting to see something like that.

Lynda, I went over to the FB page and saw Max with his orange ribbons. so cute. State Supreme Court judges are elected. He won the election with support from 4 parties. It was a shoe-in. Quilting is on my Retirement To Do List. Can you give us the link or title of the serial podcast again? I was going to write it down and it got my me. Thanks.

Valerie, your ride sounds like a great workout. Good luck with the mammo.

Hi to Josie, Judy and Lori,

Work, then home to wrap presents.

Take care,

Supremes are elected here too. so good to hear that fair minded people without an "agenda" can still be elected. I have lost a lot of faith in the judicial system starting at the top.

we were noticing yesterday how similar to hiit workouts mt biking is, depending on where you ride of course. we go uphill until we can't, rest for a couple minutes and do it again and again. and we don't do extreme elevation gain. totally different from lift served mt biking which is challenging in its own, but not anything I'd do. no "flips" or "big air" happening here!. apparently the plumber is coming today but he won't be able to finish in a day. hoping this is not grossly inconvenient as we will be out of water I assume.

off for the mammo.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Flex Train (56:36).

Deb, you can download Serial at www.serialpodcast.org and listen to it on your IPad or computer. It's really quite compelling to listen to. I only have a couple gifts still to be wrapped.

I went to see the Hobbit film. It's for Tolkien lovers like Lori and me, I think (and maybe John, Deb?). The 3D is really a bit much. The dragon at the beginning is particularly scary in 3D.

Valerie, I don't trust the Supremes at all. They should be elected, not given life-time appointments, because they are as political as all of our politicians are. Hope your mammogram goes well.

Hi to Lori, Judy, and Josie!

Lynda the reviews here suggested that people re-watch the first Hobbit movies or risk being lost. One local review was stellar, the other not so hot. I got tired of Hobbits after the first two so I won't be seeing it, but did you think reviewing the previous films was necessary? they said it "jumped right in" without any review of characters or situations. I slept thru #3 so not a big fan but DH might want to watch it. He liked it better than I did.
As much as I dislike the supreme court, (we're probably thinking of the same people), I shudder to think of it as an elected office. elections are awful enough without picturing the likes of that kind of campaign. even the state supreme court contests got messy the last couple years. court decisions can't easily be pruned down to 30 second sound bites. I question lifetime appointment, though. maybe a mandatory term limit although there are pros/cons to that.
Mamm is done, did the last bit of shopping and am back to watch the plumbing saga unfold.

Good morning,

I did the HIIT Circuit Upper Body this morning, without the Blasts. I did it Sunday with the blasts and it almost killed me. This is by far, Cathe's best series, right up there with X-train and STS. They are all different, but good in their own way.

Valerie, I never thought about biking being like a HIIT workout, but it is. Hope all went well with the plumbing.

Lynda, thanks for the link. I will try it with my iPad.

Hi to Josie, Judy & Lori,

I will probably try to leave work today around 3:00...we are due at my brother's house at 6:00...

Have a great Christmas Eve!

Good morning ladies!

I have been in a funk. Still have not worked out. I still do not have 100% vision back in my eye. It's comming slowly I am just impatient! My eyes are getting really dry at night so this is what caused the problem. I have preservative free drops I need to use during the day and at night I put in this oitment. Need to do this for three months then I believe I will then be put on a permanent prescription I guess like Restasis (sp?). This should prevent this from happing again.

I am off today so going to once again try Cathe's live kickboxing and barre. Figured this should will get me back on track.

Lynda..It is killing me not seeing the Hobbit yet! I am sure I will love it. I will not be seeing it in 3D. I finished Unbroken and looking forward to the movie tomorrow. So nice about the quilt happening to match your decor. Love when this happens!

Deb...great job on Cathe's new workouts. They are tough and I love them too. I agree they are a great series. She really did an awesome job with them. Congrats to your Cousin!

Valerie...yes I believe biking can be very HIIT. Absolutley! Sounds like your bathroom is coming along.

Judy...thanks for the link!

Hi to Judy!!

Merry Christmas!

Deb, for me road biking is steady state cardio like treadmill or elliptical. mt biking is like intervals. the trail we've been riding is uphill most of the way to the view spot. we will never be able to ride all the way up without rest stops. those are brief, just to catch your breath. sometimes we walk sections ( active recovery) because it's hard to get on a bike, balance and start pedaling going uphill. I'm better than I used to be at this. so you get going hard, back off a little, go hard, back off. intervals, really.

You are doing a great job on the new workouts! what is so good about them?

Lori Hope this gets worked out. you will probably feel better if you can get in some kind of minimal workout to get the juices flowing again. unfortunate it's taking so long. Hope the drops help. are you going to be able to wear contacts?

plumber came ... guy was not inspiring. took forever to get the new shower pan in seemed like it his "first time" doing everything. and then it squeaked a lot. DH was coming unglued as he is really careful and methodical and the plumber was everything but. Plumber then left for 3 hours when he said he'd be gone 1. then water appeared in the basement from a spot in the ceiling. the pan squeaked loudly when you stood in it. DH was looking stuff up and calling people, wanted me in there too, and plumber is saying the floor isn't level and that's the problem and we need a contractor to level it out.
I know way less than anyone but sometimes that's a good thing. he'd been fussing with it for hours! I got in and pushed on the back edge of the pan and said that I thought the squeaks were coming from where the pan fit against the framing on the back wall. I pointed out about 8 inch section where it was up against the wood and said "can we back the pan off a little where it's rubbing?" loads of space on the other sides. I was still standing on it. he tugged back on the pan and it moved off a teeny tiny bit. Squeak immediately stopped. I said, "that did it'. I could not believe it myself..... something so simple. he went on about about the pan not fitting perfectly on any side blah blah, but immediately went down to DH ( who was talking to plumbers boss at the moment) and announced that "he'd fixed the problem". OMG it was hilarious. I didn't say a thing until I told DH about it later. It was a lovely moment, the "problem" got fixed. it is screwed in place. the guy did not inspire confidence. so forgive me for tooting my own horn here but it was just too funny not to share!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did low impact 1 with abs 2 (38:16). I substitute mountain climbers for the surfer squat thrusts. I really struggle with those angel wings in the abs routine.

Valerie, I guess if you have a poor memory it would be useful to revisit the Hobbit episode prior to this one, because it does begin precisely where the last one ends--with Smaug in flight destroying the lake village, and the one man with the arrows and skill to kill Smaug in jail. Gandalf is also still in need of rescue, and Legolas still feuding with his father. I think 1 and 2 are better because in 1, Bilbo has that lovely riddling episode with Gollum and gains possession of the ring, and in 2, we finally meet Smaug, a truly terrifying dragon. Most of 3 is WAR and Thorin's paranoia and greed. This one ends with portents of what will come in the Lord of the Rings--mention of Strider and worries over Sauron's continued threat to Middle Earth. Very funny about that plumber. He sounds incompetent. Is he still apprenticing??

Deb, it sounds like you have found the right series for you--shorter but effective workouts and premixes that make the dvds very flexible.

Lori, so sorry your eyes are still bothering you. I have seen all those ads for Restasis, but I had no idea dry eyes could be so painful. I think I will see Wild next, because it's coming to our local art house theater next.

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

Merry Christmas my dear friends! Hoping that all of you are having a wonderful time with your loved ones. Thank you for all your support through out the years.

Josie

Good morning,

Today I did Run Fit on the treadmill...this is a substitute for the HIIT Plyo workout on the rotation for today. That one sold really quick on Ebay.

Back to work today, it's a Canadian holiday so it will be very quiet, almost too quiet for me!

Hope everyone had a nice holiday.

Take care,

Good morning ladies...

Well I seem to be back on track. Yeah!! Eye is still a little blurry but getting better. I needed to start a RWH rotation over since I stopped so abruptly. Yesterday was the upper body circuit. First time I did this one and thought it moved along. I kept up with Cathe's weights most of the time. needed to reduce some of the shoulder weights due to trying to keep my left shoulder from flaring up. Now that I know what to expect I'll increase a bit each time. I started the RWH, Xtrain, crossfire and To the Max rotation. Liking the varierty. Today is Xtrain's legs which I have never been a huge fan of so subbing in Live Butts and Gutts.

Driving to New Bedford (my home city) to meet up with my brother and cousins for our annual holiday get together. it is always the 4 younger cousins (I am the oldest of the 4) and this is our 5th time doing so. We post on FB and and we never know who will show up for lunch. Always fun seeing who shows up.

Deb...I bet the Plyo one sold quickly. Alot of people sat back and waited for reviews before they ordered. You are doing really well with this rotation.

Valerie..I have not worn contacts for 4 years now. Once my eyes started changing and I need bifocals I hated wearing my contact because I could not read anything with them! I tried all different lenses and never adjusted. So I wear glasses but take them off to read or do computer work so I pretty much have them off all day while at work. As long as I can find the restroom and kitchen I am good! :)

We had a lovely day yesterday. Never made it to see Unbroken. We all just wasn't feeling it. So we watched The Interview. It was a really dumb movie but gave us some laughs. We enjoy this kind of humor from time to time. My DH bought me the Insanity Max 30 program. It was so sweet of him to do this. I never asked for it but he saw and advertisement for it an thought it was right up my alley. It certainly is! I will not do the rotation but will throw in a workout here and there. You know how I love 30 minute workouts!

Have a great day everyone!
