Good morning,

No workout, or class yesterday. Just did some errands, and lots of HouseMax.

Judy, that's great that you are using some of the older workouts. I like to do at least one total body (recently a metabolic or Phat), and an upper and lower day...then fit cardio in between. It's getting old though...I can't wait to see the rotations for the new series.

Valerie, I really like using a gift registry, like you said...you know that you are getting them something that they want. That was a great workout! Snowshoeing is hard work.

Carolyn, that sounds like a good workout. Yes, Christmas seems to be more leisurely here too than Thanksgiving...not sure why that it but I like it!

Diane Sue, sleep is probably the best healer there is. Good that you are not doing anything, even if you start to feel that you can. The nutritionist is also helping me with sleep issues, and she suggested I increase my magnesium supplement. I didn't know if taking it before bed was better or if it mattered. Have you heard of this?

Lori, glad you are feeling better and up to those workouts! Did you put up a tree? If so, wondering what Gigi's reaction was.

A workout, and maybe more stuff around here....

Take care,

Good morning. I did ride (spin ) again , about an hour. Our basement is so cold now that almost no sweat at all . Supposed to warm up today and rain. So there will be an abrupt and maybe nasty transition

Lori snowshoeing is not technically hard but lots of work. My shoes are long and narrow so I don't trip /step on my own feet. DH is bow legged so no problems with overlap . I can't walk at all in his short wide snowshoes. ETA, you can remember to "walk wide" for a little while, but your steps need to be wider than your normal stride, it isn't long before you forget and trip yourself up and fall on your face.

Diane sue they specified the exact towel and color so no possible mistake there. Easy for me and they get what they want.

Finished the good wife. Didn't like the last season much but overall a good series. They made Alicia into somewhat of a hateful ditz.
Watched a movie for first time in a while ..... a walk in the woods with Robert Redford nick knolte. Nick has not aged well! Okay, kind of cute, but book was better. They don't make the Appalachian trail look very interesting

We also are more low key for xmas. I am tired of the shopping hype before it starts! I have grown to detest the music. sorry I am negative but I am just glad when it's over.

We, have a light layer of snow on the ground this morning and it is really cold, 3 degrees this morning. It is amazing how much I have been sleeping. I sit up for a couple of hours and then I am nodding off. I thought I might not sleep last night because I slept so much during the day, but I went to sleep at 10:30 and Gertie got me up at 4:15 wanting to go outside. It was so cold she was back at the door quick whining to get back in. I went back to sleep till 7. I guess between the surgery and the fact that I am not boosting up the metabolism with exercise and doing stuff all of the time, I am relaxing more.

Deb, I have read in multiple places that taking magnesium before bed helps sleep. Dr Axe says 400-500 mg at night before bed in quality form of citrate or chelate. Of course those are the more pricey supplements. Dr Axe has a 2 video transcript called 5 insomnia cures to implement now. Magnesium is good for relaxation. That is why we use Epsom salts soaks. I try to keep my greens drink and Earthblend ORAC energy natural multi-vitamin in the mornings. The vitamin is by Paradise. I figure they might keep me awake because some things like maca, ginsing , etc. provide energy. Both the greens powder and the vitamin supplement have probiotics in them.
Dairy is often associated with reflux and gut issues. I still seem to get away with my organic half and half and yogurt or kefir. At least I think that I do. My daughter mentioned that my coughing and allergy symptoms could still be due to reflux and even though I am not experiencing the stuff coming back up it could be causing the cough. This was a discussion a few days ago. Maybe when I am better I will try cutting the dairy altogether and go back to coconut milk. We were trying to figure what is causing my allergy symptoms now since the seasonal allergy stuff is down. I had several good weeks though and it is back again.

Valerie, we have abrupt transitions all of the time. 64 a couple of days ago when I checked the high and today 3. I think it is supposed to warm up a bit this next week. It does make it easier when you get the exact color and style that they want. I purchased A Walk in the Woods for my husband on Vudu. I have not watched it though. He didn't care for it. Do you think I might enjoy it? I have 3 days sitting here alone during the day this next week. Maybe I should try it. He had done some all night shifts guarding a train accident spot last winter and I bought movies and downloaded them so he could watch them. I have several with older actors. I tried a couple that were supposed to be comedy while on the spin bike but there was so much crude humor that I couldn't stand to watch them. Nick Nolte has had such an alcohol problem from what I understand. I used to enjoy his movies. My sister in law that lived in northern California used to have a video store in a small town there and Nick Nolte and Clint Eastwood used to come into their town quite a lot. I think they went hunting or something.

diane sue I read the book last summer so I remembered a lot that wasn't included in the movie, so that rounded out the story for me. the book was enjoyable. I'd call the movie "light entertainment" .... OK for a one time as long as you're not expecting an academy award epic. there's nothing crude to speak of, and the knolte character (Katz) is amusing and balances out Redford who can be too goody-goody for my taste. emma Thompson is also in it but not a big part .and I love her. especially since you're in recovery mode and it's 3 degrees outside, yes I think you would enjoy it. I hardly ever try to watch "funny" movies anymore because apparently what people think is funny these days is tacky, disgusting bad bathroom humor. trust me though, nick knolte looks pretty rough around the edges. Redford still looks pretty good.... older but well tended.

now that you brought it up... I have avoided almost anything called a 'comedy" in years now because they are so awful.

I will say ....be cautious about magnesium supplements. start slow and gentle. I react pretty dramatically to magnesium. maybe I'm unusual.

Good afternoon ladies!

Today was a power jump premix I made up followed up with the Jumpsport workout I made. Great combination as the Jumpsport has intervals of upper body band work. 50 minutes and 562 calories. HR was really up there at times. I love jumping! If you remember years ago when I first joined this forum I ran a lot on my TM. Since this is no longer an option jumping is such a great substitute for me. Wish I discovered the power jump workouts sooner!

Deb...I am looking forward to the new dvd's too. If you start a rotation I will join you! We do have a tree. For the past few years we have had an fiber optic tree. The cats were always eating our lights so this tree worked well. It burnt out last year so we bought a new pre lit one this year. So far so good. Our cats are older and they seem to be out of the chewing phase. GiGi is not allowed in the room we have the tree. We have it gated off. It is far from puppy proof!

Diane Sue...I do like some comedy. There are some out there that are not crude or full of sex. Great that you are sleeping. Your body needs it.

Valerie...I love Emma Thompson too. Loved here in Nanny McPhee. One of those silly movies I could watch over and over. Of course there are many other movies she is amazing in!

Have a great evening all! Getting ready to watch some football.

Today has been house cleaning and decorating. We finaly have the trees decorated and I am pleased with the way that they look. We have a small tree in the entry way and the main tree in the family room. I work out in the family room so I don't like to put that tree up too early. I can handle it for a couple of weeks without getting frustrated.

The weather here has been strange also. It was cold most of the week, then started to warm up with rain yesterday. This morning it was almost 70 degrees but has been getting colder all day. It's been fine for working inside.

Hello to everyone.

I don't know why but I am not able to get on the forums through the Internet on my tablet this afternoon and evening. I am stuck with the Tapatalk app.

Valerie, yes, magnesium should be started out slow. It can have a laxative effect if taking too much. I take 300 MG in the evening because there is a little in my multivitamin and greens drink. I am sure some is in my food as well. I may watch that movie tomorrow when my husband is at work. We watched the newer Petes dragon with the grandchildren a week ago and Robert Redford was the grandfather of the little girl in it. Robert Redford does not have the rough look Nick Nolte does. We watched an old comedy today, What about Bob with Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfus. That was rather humorous. Comedy just is not the same, most of the time crude. Once in awhile there is something with decent feel good humor and not raunchy.

Lorie, I am glad that you found a new love :) I cannot imagine the cats eating the lights on the tree. Gertie has never been too interested in the trees. It is surprising though because she goes nuts over light reflections from computers, cell phones, and even my Fit bit. When she was a small pup she did go after icicles on the tree and I kept trying to get them all pulled back off. I was afraid they might be a hazard. She has never been destructive other than her puppy beds when she was young. At that time she finally ended up with a towel in her crate at night since she shredded those as well.

Carolyn, both of my daughter's have multiple trees decorated in the their homes. It is always very festive and beautiful. We have not done a lot of decorating since we moved. Last year we couldn't find all of the rope lights that we had put on our two story home before and around the oaks. That year we had multiple rooms and trees decorated. It was fun. Your family will enjoy it.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Metabolic Conditioning....42 minutes, 254 calories. Apparently we dodged the horrible weather that was predicted.

Valerie, you're doing great with the spin workouts. I agree, I felt the last season of The Good Wife was not the best, and it was probably good they ended it. I do miss it though...that and Mad Men. My friend and I are still watching the last season of Suits...we do 2 episodes at a time.

Diane Sue, that is great that you are getting all that sleep. 3 degrees is really cold! The magnesium I have is Magnesium L-Threonate. I just read the label and it says to take 2 midday, and 2 at night, 2 hours before bed. I have only been taking a total of 2 a day. Maybe I will increase this, but like Valerie said, they can cause issues. The one I take says that "Magnesioum Threonate is not a stool softener and does not act as a laxative"Maybe the dairy is causing your allergy cough. I never experience true "reflux" ....only heartburn, and it travels between my chest to my stomach...I was wondering if it could be thyroid related. John was looking up hypethyroid symptoms and surprisingly I have many of them, including the fact that my Mom had issues and had her throid removed. So many things that it could be, it makes me crazy.

Lori, so good that you discovered a great substitute for running. I do remember now that you bought a pre-lit tree, we have one of those too, but have not put it up for a few years. I bet little Gigi is amazed at the tree and would love to get into it. LOL. :).

Carolyn, I bet the trees look great...post a pic if you get a chance. I love seeing other peoples decorated trees. I have 2 large poinsettias in the living room and dining room, and a wreath on the outside door with a couple things on the porch...that is all of my decorations this year.

A workout, mani/pedi appointment, and class tonight...

Take care,

Deb, I will have to look that magnesium type up. It seems that I have read the name before. I think it is magnesium maleate that is the lower cost one that you typically find in places like Walmart. I am glad that you were able to get a workout in. I have read that the basic thyroid tests they do does not cover all of them that they can do and problems can be missed. Maybe if you told the doctor family history and asked you could get that checked. My reflux used to be really bad along with the heartburn. It is miserable to say the least.

Nothing to tell for workouts. I am working on my 100 grams of protein goal a day as per the doctors orders. I have to use protein powder because I have a hard time getting there otherwise. Gertie has become fond of getting a corner of my blankets at night. If I get up she hijacks a bunch of them. At 2:15 this morning she woke me up trying to climb into the recliner with me. I told her to go to bed and she went in her crate and came back wanting a cookie. (It didn't work) We do not let her on the furniture. She is too big and I am afraid the leather sofa would be ruined with her jagged claws that she likes to chew on. She chews them even if they have just been trimmed. It is my husband's fault because every once in awhile he lets her get in his lap on the recliner and she wraps her paws around him and snuggles. She gets down as soon as he says off. Normally it has not been an issue. She has seemed confused at me taking over the recliner. The first night she barked at me when my husband went to bed and I was still sitting in the recliner.

Hi Everyone,

Saturday I did a Jessica Smith workout, "10 Minute Solutions-Knockout Body Workout". It is 4-10 minute kickboxing type workouts and 1-10 minute standing and floor ab workout. I did all 5 segments. I found this one and 2 other of her 10 minute solution workouts on Amazon for around $8 each. It was a good workout and one that I will do again. It was challenging, but not extreme. Yesterday I did a 1 hour Spinerval. It felt so good to ride again!
I'll probably workout this morning then we might go shopping later.

Deb-That's great that you didn't get the bad weather. It's very cold here today, and we might get more snow later this week.

Diane Sue-I'm going to try taking magnesium and see if it helps me sleep. Thanks for mentioning Dr. Axe. I'm looking at his site now and finding some good information. It's great that you are getting good rest.

Lori-We gave up on having a tree a few years ago. We have a few decorations around the condo, but there was no way we could keep a tree up with the cats here. Like Deb, I love seeing other peoples decorated trees. I'm glad that you love the Jumpsport workouts. They do sound good.

Valerie-Great job with the spinning and snowshoeing! Snowshoeing for 4 hours sounds like an incredible workout!

Carolyn-nice that you got all of your decorations done! 70 degrees sounds pretty good to me right now :)

Have a great Monday!

Judy

I agree, 70 degrees has a nice ring to it! we got warmer and wetter overnight, think it's 40-ish now. amazing the difference between 32 and 40 degrees for how cold it feels.

celebrating anniversary a day early with cousin and his wife, so dinner out tonight. trying to reconnect with Weight watchers again. a good price offer for 3 months but I'm having immediate trouble with the user name password. I had trouble with everything on their site last time I tried it ...last winter it was, right when they did the massive program change, so if this doesn't work I will be on the phone soon to get it straightened out ASAP.

yesterday I did total body metabolic and the core workout. I've been tracking on a paper calendar and it looks pretty impressive. I haven't missed many days in several months now.

Lori I had never seen one of the trampolines until yesterday a local fitness person showed herself using one. I wonder... is it possible to jump and miss the landing? is it dangerous? do you have to be paying close attention so you don't go flying off ? it doesn't look like a lot of room for error.

Judy we have always had a cat. none ever had interest in the tree. we used to get live trees with the intent to plant them afterwards but most didn't live. they'd die slowly. we also had to pre dig a hole in case it was frozen when it was time to plant it. so then I substituted a large indoor plant I have, a big ficus. when I put ornaments on it, it looked like an evergreen and since the plant is always here, no cat ever looked twice at it. now, we've gotten away from entertaining so we just hang a wreath on the door and are done with it.
we do thanksgiving and don't enjoy trying to travel this time of year anyway. I can see how hanging ornaments or tinsel could be trouble.

ETA I had to call WW customer service to get the password thing to work again... it finally did but didn't accept my user name. pw at first. It looks totally different from when I left last winter. nothing worked then, I'd lost all my data and recipes from the previous time. this morning, after YEARS, it looks like all my stuff from a couple years ago is back. I may have to adjust point values because this was from points plus and it might be calculated differently now, but it's reassuring to see I wasn't screwing up, their program was not working right for the 3 months I struggled with it. I see that the activities had been updated. one of the suggestions I'd made was to include spinning, and metabolic type workouts. spinning is there now, and I'm thinking maybe circuit workouts might work out. Carolyn ( I'm sorry I keep forgetting how to spell your name) can you tell me what you do?

Hi Everyone,
This morning I did Low Impact Sweat One and Two. This time of year it is easy for me to skip workouts as I get busy, so I am trying to stick with the rotation. I might substitute something less intense or do a timesaver premix but I will do something! The seventy degrees didn't last long. Today's high is 44.

Diane Sue, it's great that you are getting rest. I remember that anesthesia effects seem to linger for a few days. After that it is hard to remain still. Maybe you can catch up on reading or movies. I would have to use protein powder too to get in the protein.

Valerie I hope that you have a better experience with WW this time. Paper tracking is a wonderful back up but the electronic tracking is so quick and easy. Good luck with getting your user ID straightened out.

Lori, I have three daughters. One is married with children. Two of my brothers live here in the metro area, but that doesn't mean close. They are about an hour away.

Deb, are you starting to get more sleep with the magnesium? Thyroid problems sounds like something to check on. It is easily overlooked because symptoms are similar to many other things.

Judy, I really like Jessica Smith workouts and I have done one of her standing ab workouts from the 30 day plan. I will probably use them a few times in the next two weeks.

Have a great afternoon.

Valerie,
I track my activities on my Fitbit and it syncs with Weight Watchers. The activity points are entered automatically. They updated it a few months back to make sure step points and activity points are not double counted. I love it! My recipes and favorite foods came back too. You are correct that some items will need to be re-entered or edited because we were not counting sugar on Points Plus.

Good evening ladies,

Today was a rest day. I got up early enough but just wasn't feeling it.

Carolyn...we have one tree and that is it. I am not much of a decorator. I have a few things around the house but not much. Oh to have 70 degrees right now!

Valerie...Happy Anniversary! That is really strange getting all the old stuff back with the WW. Must have been a nice surprise. Nice they added the extra workouts. I have the 44 inch Jumpsport so it is a little larger. When my boss gave me the gift card at the conference I knew what I was buying. I have yet to fall off. When you jump the jumps are not high. Your shoulders stay put and your knees and feet press down into the trampoline so you really do not jump high but your knees do. Does this make sense? Congrats on your workouts!!!!

Diane sue...hoping you got the internet working. I did not like using the tapatalk app at all. My cats ate everything! So many wires!!! Cell phone charges, extension cords, computer cords. Was very fustrating for a while. So glad they are out of that stage.

Judy...I really enjoy JS. She is a great balance for me. I will have to look up that workout. Glad the spinerval felt great. It had been a couple of weeks since your last ride correct? I'll post a pocture of our tree tomorrow for you and Deb!

Deb...we got the nasty storm. Saturday was horrible. Then yesterday it rained. What a mess. Whenever she is allowed in the living room (and that is seldom) she runs right for the tree. Over the weekend she had a glass ornament in her mouth!! So needless to say..we are keeping her out.

I received my calendar over the weekend. Was a nice surprise because I completely forgot it was coming.

Have a great night all!!

Good morning,

No workout yesterday...did not feel like it. I thought about it, then just changed my mind. Sometimes the exertion just causes the heartburn to get worse.

Edited to add...just got a shipping notification that a package was sent to me on 12/20....from Cathe.com....it has to be the new DVD's!

Diane Sue, Gertie just wants to be closer to her "Mom". Interesting that she chews her paws a lot...so does Keegan. He has allergies for sure, I just don;t know what they are from. He also licks his front legs a lot. Almost like an OCD thing.

Judy, those JS workouts sound like a good deal! The magnesium that I have says to take half dose in the AM and the other half about 2 hours before bedtime. (I went on the site where there is a lot more info about the supplements).

Valerie, Happy Anniversary! Great that you got the WW issues resolved and even better that that had all of your info from the past accessible. :).

Carolyn, not sure yet on the magnesium...I only tried 1 day, forget to take the PM dose yesterday. It's tough for me to take supplements at night....since I have always taken them in the morning. I even had it out on the counter, to remind me.

Lori, a rest day is good, your body must have been telling you that it was needed. I can see Gigi with an ornament...so cute, but not so good. LOL. I got my calendar yesterday.

I take my car in for a regular check up type appointment this morning, then I called yesterday and set up an appointment with my GP. I want to see if he has any other ideas on what this could be caused from. I am not hopeful that he will have any, but I have to try.

Take care,

Rest day :) 1 week tomorrow. I have been reading over other doctors protocol for this type of surgery and most are pretty much the same on rest and recovery and working out. I gather there are many athletes and fitness enthusiasts that do this type of surgery and want to rush back into working out. It may be 6 weeks before I can do much beyond just light cardio. 3 to 4 months seems to be the protocol to returning to full all out anything pretty much can be done. I will go along with my surgeon since I know he is one of the best. People come to him from out of state. He has lots of awards and voted best here. I am getting restless. I watched 3 movies yesterday. The BFG with my granddaughter before she left for work, A Walk in the Woods in the afternoon, and Miss Perigines House for Peculiar Children last night. The latter was odd to say the least. Would give children nightmares. Somewhat of a horror show without too much gore. I expected it to be a little lighter than it was. Reading a lot. Spending a lot of time with my tablet. I need to stretch at least my lower body some. Waiting though to check if it is okay since they are so afraid that if I climb the stairs I am elevating my blood pressure which slows healing and does not help the bruising to go away. Oddly all of the sitting is making my knees ache and the surgery one the most. I had my husband make a Turkey Pot Pie Soup recipe last night. I found it on Pinterest. I had it adjusted a bit because it had either a cup of heavy cream or coconut cream in it. I had him use coconut milk from a can along with the broth. Also subbed chicken breast that I had previously roasted. It was really good. It has sage and thyme in it. I had him increase the sage since I did not have fresh to add along with the amount of ground that they called for. It sort of reminded me of stuffing without the bread. ALso it was pretty simple. I had diced the onion and celery ahead and purchased carrot shreds so carrots did not have to be diced. So he did not have a lot to do.

Judy, I like Dr Axe. There are so many out there that just get carried away with advice etc.. I read up on his credentials and feel pretty confident in his articles and stuff. They are helpful. I have some of his free literature downloaded. He has good products but I don't buy unless there is a nice discount offer. I have some 10 minute solution workouts. No Jessica Smith though. She does have a lot of stuff. Most of what I have is Amy Bento. I gave away a pilates one and one Amy I sent to a friend that was getting back into workouts along with some figure 8 tubing and bands with a band workout as well. I like Amy's 5 Day one a lot. I like that you can pick and choose the workouts and string what you want together at a nice price.

Valerie, our son has the home we lived in when they were growing up. We had two live trees that we planted in front after Christmas. They got huge. He recently got rid of the smaller of the two. They filled up his whole front yard and grew into each other. I used to change the aquarium water and use the tank water with all of it's leavings in it on the ground around the trees. I guess it was good natural fertilizer. I did learn not to use it on house plants though. It stinks. We stayed at my brother in laws once and they had a potted tree of some sort in the corner of the room we were sleeping in. I saw their cat using it for a litter box. That is great that you got your recipes back on weight watchers. I track my workouts in my agenda book and on the workout manager. I like to see the workouts all laid out in the workout manager calendar. It is starting to look rather vacant right now. For me the only time I rip up on the rebounder is with the URX-metabolic training workouts from Urban Rebounding. This is because some of them have you jumping on and off and leaping across the rebounder. Mine has a "skirt around the edges" that I tend to get my feet caught in once in awhile. Amy Bento makes the comment in her Boot Camp one to get over the skirt (sort of a pun) Generally it is easy to not fall off. Some have a bit larger circumference than others and some like the Bellicon are a bit taller. I am sure last night's early anniversary dinner was pleasant. I watched A Walk in the Woods yesterday afternoon I enjoyed it. It is not a watch over and over movie but it was entertaining.

Carolyn, I am a week tomorrow from surgery. It is hard to sit still. They do not want me using my arms too much. That is very difficult for me as I do not feel bad. Yesterday I opened the refrigerator twice and had a box of butter come flying out of the upper part of the door where the butter compartment is. Finally I had my husband put it down in the bottom. I hit myself with my arm during the fast reflex of trying to catch the butter. I felt it for awhile. So, I know I have to be careful. I like the way my Fit Bit syncs with My Fitness Pal. I do wish Fit Bit had more workout types to use. I end up using the workout setting when I cannot come up with a reasonable setting. No step?? I have spin, circuit, yoga, and kickboxing on my settings. For Map My Fitness there are more settings. Oddly it gives me high calorie burns using the fit bit for yoga but if I use stretch and strength it goes down a bit. That is the one I use for Barre Amped Stretch and Strength. I do really like the Fit Bit and usage options. Weight Watchers sounds like a good program. Do they have settings for Paleo or low carb ? I never quite understood their point system.

Lorie, your Jump Sport sounds so nice :) The pet that chewed up wires and furniture was my rabbit. He even chewed some of the seal around the refrigerator door while begging for a bit of fresh veggies. It took forever to break him. Sometimes I would feel safe and he would decide to gnaw on the woodwork or something. I remember last year my daughter's lab pup swallowed a Christmas bulb. At first she had said light bulb and I was envisioning something larger. She was okay, but you sure do not want to take those chances. I love your Christmas tree. The purple would be perfect for me. It is my favorite color. Ours is always a mixture of everything. I only used popcorn beads this year. We need to replace some garlands. Last year we had taped garlands across the upstairs landing and down the stair railing along with lights. Nothing elaborate this year. I have a couple of boxes of some wreaths and stuff sitting here but am not supposed to lift my arms so they are just sitting here. I may just have them put back in the garage at this point.

Deb, I saw last night on Facebook that someone had received their shipping notice. They did a screen shot of their phone. I guess I will have plenty of time to do the downloads and download the manual. Maybe in another week I will be able to do the Spin workout and get in some really light activity. Gertie, loves to have contact with people. She laid under the table when my granddaughter was studying with her head and paw on my granddaughter's foot. Even if she has to stick her nose up in the air when I am sitting on a barstool she will do it to have contact. If I rest my feet on her she is happy. Our dog Mudd had grass allergies. The vet had said that he saw it often because the seed would get embedded in the crevices of the dogs paws. I inspect Gerties paws and scrub them well when I bathe her. I am not sure what prompts the chewing . She licks her legs too. I have looked that area over but never seen anything to warrant the licking. I even moved the limbs around to see if something was maybe hurting. That was not a problem either. I set my morning supplements out at night and take care of them before coffee. I then set out the stuff for evening and put the other away. I take the evening supplements with a snack before bed. This has become a habit so I generally do not forget unless my routine gets messed up. If I leave stuff out after taking them I may find myself forgetting and taking another dose. I have to put it up.
