Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/15

Today I did Step Boss Step Sync, 57 minutes, heart rate average 141, max 161, 342 calories, met 7.5, 5,720 steps. I then did Step Boss Ab Stacker, 10 minutes, met 4.5, 40 calories, heart rate average 105 , max 141, 47 steps, Step Boss extended lying stretch, 10 minutes, met 2.3, heart rate average 81, max 95, 15 steps, 20 calories, finishing with Jessica Smith Gentle Yoga Neck and Shoulders, 19 minutes, 36 calories, heart rate average 88, max 113, 32 steps. Total time was 96 minutes, 438 calories, 5,814 steps.
I loved Step Sync, the lying stretch was just normal stuff and some of it was sitting, I am not sure how I felt about stacker abs as it was uncomfortable, I worried about my neck holding the riser while doing superman's and it sure was uncomfortable on the hip flexors. It may grow on me so I never make the first impression the last time I do a workout (usually). I am hoping to do PHA 3 tomorrow. I will be trying to get things done to pick up my grandson early from school. I wrote down the exercises from the workout manager since the users guide is not out yet. I will be back in awhile.

Today I did Flex Train for 56 minutes and 303 calories burned. Average heart rate was 119 and maximum heart rate was 148.

Valerie, we need to get new phones too, but we keep delaying. My phone is okay and I wouldn’t bother to change, but my husband’s phone is dying. His screen won’t come on half the time.

Diane Sue, the new workouts sound great. Mine haven’t arrived yet, but I won’t have time to look at them for a while.

Hello to Everyone and have a great day.

Valerie, I would never have thought of using fabric softener to remove wallpaper. I remember the house that my son has now had some of the worst wallpaper ever to remove. The dining room was not bad. It had a plaid wallpaper that really had to go. The entry was another story. We scraped and worked. By the time we got it off there were so many rough spots and pits in the wall. We used all kinds of stuff trying to remove it. Then we tried to smooth the wall and the new paper had a bit of a gloss and it really showed every little rough spot that was missed. My husband finally bought panels that looked like a lightly textured wall paper and put up. Baths were tough as well, but we did get it off.
Being so hungry and empty is miserable. I am sure your husband will be glad when it is all over.

Carolyn, I ordered the downloads and dvds. I am anxious for the dvds though. I like having the premixes and knowing more what to expect. I understand being busy. I have things to get done this weekend for Monday's family gathering at my daughters.

I don't remember where we found the fabric softener idea. ( google, utube) old wallpaper was still solidly stuck to the wall. we used a hand sprayer with the diluted fabric softener, and once the strips softened, they peeled off pretty easily. there is no such thing as fragrance free softener so it stunk for days afterwards. old paper left residue of paste on the wall, so we sanded it gently then vacuumed it off. we googled "removing wallpaper" and ended up on utube . there are many many ways to put up and take down wallpaper! I have no clue why fabrid softener works, but it is inexpensive and it helped. no widespread agreement, and the site from the wallpaper maker was very vague. we had drywall behind the paper, its been up for 30 years but stuck well. we are using peel and stick paper this time, did not exist 30 years ago. it is not as solid as the past type, but would be easier to change. our new paper has a very slight shininess to it also. cant notice it on the wall, but it feels slicker than flat paper.

he got two more migraines, one last night and another this morning. not sure what has caused this latest uptick. today is our anniversary. he was going to do something this morning with a friend but had to cancel when the headache started. he keeps thinking its hunger or caffeine related, but does not seem true.

ended up taking yesterday off exercise too. between wallpaper, getting my hair done, making dinner, and getting stuck in traffic, there was no time for anything else.
I am finding my new phone needs a new charger. one came with the phone, but I plugged it into the existing cord and didn't notice until morning that nothing happened. we have a load of chargers for our iPhone 6's but it does not look like they work on the new model. the chargers are apple, and look the same, plug in fine, but don't charge anything. great..... his phone is a 6s so looks like we need 2 different sets of chargers, unless the new one is backwards compatible.

This morning I did Cardio Slam for 49 minutes and 334 calories burned. My average heart rate was 128 and maximum heart rate was 166.

Valerie, I hate when the phone manufacturers make changes to the chargers. That happened with our last phone upgrade and I guess it will be the same this time.

Diane Sue, it’s nice that your daughter is hosting your family get together. My family will start arriving on Sunday, so I have a lot of preparing to do. I try to get some things cooked in advance and frozen so that I can enjoy having them here.

Hello to Deb and Judy.

Today I did Step Boss PHA3, 58 minutes (extra time for notes) met 5.5, 250 calories, 1,717 calories, heart rate average 116, max 162. I really felt the calories were low on this since it was very quick paced non stop and I felt I was working hard. My readings were weird today. I then did Step Boss Bonus intermediate step which has not warm up, 21 minutes, heart rate 150 average, max 173 ??, 2,233 steps, 141 calories. I did not use the met values on this because they really did not seem right to work with the Fit Bit readings. I did not feel like I was working that hard or breathing hard for the heart rate it showed. I finished with Step Boss Extended Chair Stretch, 16 minutes, heart rate average 100, max 142 ? odd since more that half of it was seated in a chair, met 2.6, 35 calories. I am hoping the new Fit Bit Versa 2 does better.

Valerie, I don't suppose he could drink some water with electrolytes in it. It might help. I am always looking up tricks on YouTube and Pinterest to help with things. Sometimes it is effective and sometimes not. I was amazed that the Lysol toilet bowl gel cleaner got the red lipstick out of the tile grout after I had tried everything else. My new Samsung tablet has a different cord to charge it than my other devices. It was so short, 24 inches. Barely reached the plug to the counter top. I ordered another that is 3 foot. Apparently this is so new that no one has come out with a longer cord. I will probably be ordering a different charger for my new Fit Bit Versa 2 when I get it. I think it is like the other in that you have to take the watch out of the frame in the band everytime you charge it. It is a different size. I had ordered a cradle for the Blaze which is so much easier.

Carolyn, it is a lot more work when you have family coming from out of town to stay. Then it is a lot of work getting things back to normal and cleaned up afterward. When our family all went to Nebraska for Thanksgiving one year, we took stuff with us to prepare dinner and did the work so my step mother did not have to do anything. We often did that or took them out to eat and would do the clean up. It really does help to have things ready as much as possible ahead of time. Last year I found a make ahead mashed potato recipe that was really rich with butter and sour cream that I froze and everyone loved it. I had planned on making my piecrust up so I just need to pull it out of the refrigerator and make the pies that I am taking. Hoping to get someone to give me a ride there early for playing games and helping. Some of the family has to work. My husband gets off a couple of hours early. I want to ride back with him.

Good Morning,

Chris had his sleep study last night. He's on his way home now. We did postpone our trip to Indiana. We'll probably go next month. It will be nice to have a quiet weekend at home.
Thursday I worked 10-4 then I did a 30 minute Peloton ride in the evening. Yesterday I did 40 minutes of Peloton rides and the 2 extended stretches from Step Boss. I loved them! The chair stretch is my favorite and I will be doing it a lot. The lying stretch is really good too, similar to Stretch Max.
I previewed PHA3 and will be doing that next week. I'll add it into my XTrain rotation.

Diane Sue-Great job with the Step Boss workouts! I noticed one of the PHA3 premixes is 104 minutes long. That's one of the longest Cathe premixes I've seen. I previewed the step bonus and think I will try that next week too.

Carolyn-Great job with Cardio Slam! That's another one I need to revisit.

Valerie-Happy Anniversary! I hope your DH feels better today.
How do you like the new iPhone? We have the 8's so we probably won't upgrade for another year or so.

Hi to Deb & Lori,

Judy

Thank you Judy. it was #41. yesterday was a rough day. it started with a migraine. I thought I had the day to myself, to exercise, cook, shop but he cancelled his activity and we ended up doing wallpaper and he was extremely irritable because of the headache. then we ran out of wallpaper, which was my fault, of course. it was an bad day. I wanted to go sit out in the rain. He has tried everything except for drugs that interrupt the migraines. they are not risk free. I'm sorry he gets headaches but I am also tired of anger. they are not my fault. now he is on a restricted diet for the colonoscopy, guaranteed to cause more headaches.

Judy its a very nice phone. bigger is fine, 6.5 in screen. I thought loss of home button would be a big deal, but its not. I think I need to get a better case than the one I got with it. I've never dropped a phone. this would be an expensive crash. my complaint is the different charging cords. can't see difference between old/new devices. they look and feel the same. it took me hours before I realized the new phone wasn't charging. with our 2 older iphones, we had a good collection of charging cords for vehicles and houses. I don't know if DH's older phone will charge on the new one, so a problem if we need 2 different identical looking chargers. I can imagine plugging wrong phone to wrong charger and not noticing until the next morning. we need to color code them.
today I will exercise, this was too long a break, 3 days.

My Step Boss dvds were supposed to arrive yesterday. Now it says delivery date unknown and tracking says delivered to next stop. So I am wondering where they are. Yesterday it said they were supposed to be delivered but then I saw they were leaving Texas. Glad I have the downloads.
This morning I did I Max 4. I really liked it although it does have some down to the floor moves like dropping to the floor and doing squat thrusts and back to the step and other side. Some moves that are familiar, but instead of on the floor they are done using the step. I also did the Abs 2 which Cathe uses an 8# dumbbell for the first part and the last half is planks using the step. I Max 4 was 46 minutes, heart rate average 148, MAX 177, 3760 steps, met 8.0, 319 calories. I then did Step Boss Abs 2, 10 minutes, heart rate average 99, max 124, met 5.0, 44 calories, 54 steps. I finished with Jessica Smith Gentle Yoga back and chest, 22 minutes, heart rate average 84, max 110, 33 steps, 37 calories. Total time was 77 minutes, 3,847 steps, 400 calories.

Judy, I am anxious to have the dvds for the premixes and mish moshes. I do remember quite a few of Cathe's older workouts had so very lengthy premixes. I remember doing them. I Max 4 really hits the legs a lot during the blasts. I like the chair stretch the best. I had a bit of a problem with it because I generally use a vanity bench for seated chair work and my fit tower for standing chair work. So the stretch reaching back did not work so well. I guess I need to take a folding chair upstairs or position the fit tower to where it can take the place of the back of a chair. Hope the sleep study went well.

Valerie, 41 years is great. I am sorry your husband is dealing with a migraine. I hope he is better today. Sorry yesterday was so rough. I cannot imagine trying to do wallpaper with a migraine. But, then we often do things we do not really feel like doing. I used to have those things last for weeks. Still am not totally sure why they stopped. Maybe because I went gluten and a lot grain free. I wonder if a naturopath could offer up something that might help rather than take drugs. I had a prescription around for several years till I realized I was not going to need to use it anymore. I only took it when it the pain was so extreme and lasted for days. My poor family didn't deserve to have me dealing with that for too long. They are making a lot of charging cods in different colors now. My husband liked it when I recently bought him a blue cord for his phone. Now he knows which is his tablet and which is his phone. I don't know why, but I got a longer cord for my cell phone so it would reach over the counter to in the kitchen when I am in the kitchen and get calls while I have it plugged in. Since then, I have accidentally pulled it off the counter to the floor 3 times. I am glad I have a good case on it. Trying to be more careful of placement and not having things get in the way. I keep an iphone charger here just for family members that have an iphone. The newest phones are all really expensive. I keep getting offers from at&t and figure my phone is paid off and working so I see no reason to get another right now. My new tablet does not have a home button and it took me a bit to get used to it. Now if I pull out the older one I find it odd to have the home button. Everything is on the touch screen other than on and off and volume.

His neurologist is a pretty flexible guy and had him try some more off-the-wall-things, nothing seemed to work, but so far dh has refused to take designated meds for migraines. they have some risks to them. I think stress increases the frequency, and he is stressed about this upcoming colonoscopy, mostly because he knows he will get hungry, and that will itself likely cause a headache. I think he should try a restricted diet, like fodmaps, where you remove everything and gradually add things back in to see if some unexpected thing is causing headaches, but he is not agreeable to messing with his food. he had two almost back to back though, and that was hard on everyone. he is supposed to be on a very low fiber diet right now, and it is almost impossible for us. everything we eat has lots of fiber. he has eliminated so many things he thinks "might" cause headaches that it interferes a lot with what I would like to eat. plus he doesn't like anything spicy and I want almost everything that way.

I will need to look for colored cords. the plugs themselves look identical.

I did a 35 min spin premix from pedal power, then ab workout #2 from Lite, and stacked upper body premix for 2/3 of it.

No workout today. I’ve been busy from the moment that I got up.

Valerie, I’m sorry that your husband is suffering with a migraine. I know how that can be.

Diane Sue, my Step Boss dvds came yesterday to my surprise. I thought they would arrive today. I probably won’t preview them until after Christmas.

Judy, I’m sure that you will enjoy a few quiet days at home.

Hello to Deb and Lori.

Yesterday we had our family Christmas. My grandson came over and we visited for awhile then went out to my daughter's house for the gathering. We played games for a couple of hours which was a lot of fun. Only thing is I should have known better than to lean forward over the coffee table for so long. My neck and shoulder really hurt last night and this morning. I was so stiff when I got up. Moving around helps.
Yesterday I did Step Boss Step Sync, 302 calories, heart rate 126 average, 150 max, met 6.7, 6,024 steps:D. My new Versa 2 seemed better on the heart rate. The blaze seemed to be too high for the amount of effort I was putting in. It also seems to count my steps better. Sometimes I would have to get really exaggerated moves to get steps to show up, or they would stall out and a bunch would show up at once. I then did Step Boss Ab Stacker 10 minutes, 40 calories, met 4.5, 102 steps(must be the leg to arm movements??) heart rate average 112, max 137. I then did Step Boss Chair Stretch, 16 minutes, 10 steps, heart rate average 94, max 116, 27 calories, met 2.0. Total time was 83 minutes, 369 calories, 6,136 steps.
Today I just did Step Boss PHA 3 upping some of the weights on the lower body and a couple of upper like the plank rows. Still light on the Arnold press at 10's. Just too fast for me to take a chance with heavier weights, 59 minutes, 248 calories, met 5.5, 1,785 steps, heart rate average 124, max 154. Cathe had this way high in the workout manager and the met value was 7.5. No way for me and my calculations.
My dvds finally showed up. I do not know what the hold up was because they had been in Oklahoma City since Saturday. I printed up the user guide awhile ago and downloaded to my tablet, which I use to check out premixes and stuff without digging in my folder that holds the user guide. I only dig out the worksheets.

Valerie, I understand. I try to help my husband, but he doesn't like certain things and I just try to work around his likes a dislikes. I love spicy foods and lots of flavor in my food. Eliminating fiber would be hard when it comes to eating lots of vegetables and fruits and stuff. Funny, because for some people it is hard to get enough. Too bad he is so worried about the results that he might have before it has happened. Stress causes so many problems.

Carolyn, that is great that your dvds arrived. I was starting to wonder if they had lost mine since they were nearby for several days. I need to look over premixes. I did glance over some of the rotations. I figured they would be blended with other dvd series since Step Boss would be a bit difficult as a stand alone rotation to me.

Hi to Debbie, Judy, and Lori
I hope that all of you have a very merry Christmas!!

I found I need to check each charging cord. the first one, the primary one I used to charge the iPhone 6, did not work at all with the 11. yestersday I took the 11 to the car where I have two charging cords for travel, and both worked just fine. cords all fit and look the same, no idea why there is a difference. Good news that I don't have to pitch the whole lot of them.
DH's procedure went fine, we were home by 9 am. he is exhausted, up almost all night. I'm tired too, but will do a short upper body workout. thought I posted that I did a workout yesterday, revd up rumble and abs, but I don't see the post anywhere.

DH doesn't like spicy food, and things he calls spicy don't even register on my scale of spiceiness. .
