Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/10

Today I did RWH Back Biceps and Shoulders. My workout time was 1 hour 8 minutes and 223 calories burned. Average heart rate was 103 and maximum heart rate 143. When I pulled out my worksheet I realized that I had not done this workout since last November. I was able to use heavier weights today than I did then.

Valerie, you are doing great with push ups. I was never able to get my Polars to match up with the treadmill or my bike.

Diane Sue, Kelly’s new exercise must be very effective if you had to lower your weights! I would probably start with a lower weight the first few times.

Lori, I didn’t order the new KCM Build and Burn either, but I have it on my Christmas list. I’m pretty sure that my husband is going to buy it.

Waving hello to Deb and Judy. Have a great day.

Today I did Kelly Coffey Build and Burn kettle bell kick box fusion, 25 minutes, 149 average, 167 max heart rate, 163 calories, 1,726 steps. I added on the kick box only premix, 16 minutes, heart rate average 135, max 174, 100 calories, 1,307 steps. Total time was 41 minutes, 263 calories. My grandchildren stayed the night since it was their parents anniversary. I worked out downstairs before the got up. I did not want to be swinging a kettle bell around with little ones in the room.

Judy, I did part of those plies with the dumbbells down and I think the last set on my shoulders. It always seems a bit harder on the shoulders, but I can go heavier without holding them on my shoulders.

Valerie, I think if you do the 4 sets muscle meltdown premix it includes the warm up. You could just skip the 4th set if you wanted. Either way it works out. I usually use them added on to something else. I have found most heart rate monitor straps lose the pulse when leaning forward or doing ab work where you lay down and sit up. Kneeling and plank work they tend to lose and work intermittently. I think the strap must loosen and tighten with the movement. I have read some of Polar's stuff and they also suggest that other wifi/ bluetooth sources can cause interference. I have wondered if that affects the fitness machines.

Deb, I guess I need to pay more attention. I do notice that when I pull up the Fit Bit app in the mornings that it has to sync and then sync again to pick up my sleep etc.. At first it will show the previous nights stuff. But, then it is one of the running apps when I check my avast, every time. I think the blue tooth probably has something to do with things running. If you turn it off you do not get your nights sleep patterns etc.. Those new moves in Kelly's upper body workout help with the ho hum boredom of the same moves every time I do a workout. I bet the puppies are cute. We went to look at a vehicle yesterday and the owner had a couple of great dane pups that were so cute.

Lori, great calorie burn with that workout. I hope that your day today with Madeline is a good one. I can understand running around all day would cause her a lot of fatigue. Lori, the new moves and format really had the muscles feeling it. Not a lot of rest between each of those sets. The 8's Kelly used at the end were plenty after the heavier work. I didn't even stop to question as to whether I wanted to try heavier when I got to that portion of the workout.

Did a mt bike today, about 8 miles, 2 hours twenty minutes. a lot of elevation gain and loss. Diane sue thanks for the tip about MM premixes. I saw the 4x on one disk but didn't look at other disks. A lot less fuss with the disk if there's a premix 4x on each one including a warmup. easier than jumping back and forth. maybe I'll even do it 4x.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did KCM Tabata Legs. A nice workout. I think I could have gone heavier, and will next time. I am finding that these are very short....not even 30 minutes long...maybe 26 or 28. Even with pauses for water breaks.

Lori, I hope you had a safe and uneventful flight. Is that JS Belly Blast ( from YouTube I assume) a standing core workout, or floor? Yes, the puppies are very cute, but it reminds me of how much work they are.

Valerie, yes, I remember that the Muscle Meltdowns did not have a warm up, ( or cool down?). I was doing the premix with doing it 4X and like Diane Sue said, I believe they have a warm up and maybe even a cool down. I used to do one a day right after a cardio workout so I was pretty warmed up anyway. Good job on upping those weights! :)

Carolyn, great that you could go heavier on that RWH workout. I bet it was the STS that helped get you there.

Diane Sue, I don't blame you for not wanting to swing that KB around with kids in the room. I also did those plies holding the DB down, like Samantha was doing. I think next time I will put them on my shoulders. Are you buying a new car? I have never seen Great Dane puppies, but we have had adult dogs in our training classes....they are huge.

Hi to Judy,

Take care,

This morning I did a premix from Low Max instead of IMAX 3. I did combos 1-3 for 39 minutes and 259 calories burned. Average heart rate was 129 and maximum heart rate 152.

Deb, I didn’t realize that the Build and Burn workouts are so short. Is the program designed to do two workouts together? Although short workouts are great this time of year when everyone is so busy.

Hello to Diane Sue, Valerie, Judy, and Lori. I’m off to work on cookies this afternoon. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Deb, when I followed a cardio session with a MM, I wasn't thinking of warmup. If I've spent a half hour on the spin bike, I'm WARM. if I do a MM first, it's different. I won't do an upper workout without warm up moves. I'm way too happy with how things are going to risk hurting a shoulder again, plus I think it gets more important as your weight load goes up. I should have realized cathe thought of this. it didn't occur to me she would have put in a premix to address that. Yes, I can always skip the 4th round if I want, but I hate jumping back and forth on the disk. even more I hate bumping the w rong button and having to go thru the whole preliminary business with all the warnings etc.

Giant dogs like great danes have an stunningly short life span. I think it's 7 years. that would be hard to deal with.

Since I got the new Polar HRM and chest strap last year, I haven't used it that much. I know it sort of works on the spin bike if I keep pressing the HR button on the machine electronics or just looking at the watch. it works with the outdoor bikes but then I have to wear two watches so I only did it a few times I've reached the point where I can tell my heart rate accurately by how it feels. I try to work between 130-145 maxing at 150. Off to do some kind of outdoor hike/walk while it's still dry and sunny.

Today I started with Build and Burn cardio core, 28 minutes, heart rate average 130, max 155, 185 calories, 2,052 steps. I then did Build and Burn Lower Body Tabatas, 28 minutes, 145 calories, average heart rate 118, max 154, 1,140 steps. Total time 56 minutes, 330 calories total. I am late getting here. My husband came up after my cardio workout to install a different door on the bath and needed some help this morning. Then I had do get out and get the rest of the stuff for family dinner. I quickly did the weights when he was done and have been busy ever since.
weights for lower tabata 4 rounds each exercise timed
I upped most of the weights this time
banded side steps blue firewalker band 4 sets
kickstand deadlifts 20# dbs 4 sets
squat variations 25# dbs 4 sets
side lunge into knee pull body weight 4 sets
front and back lunges 20# dbs 4 sets
split stance plyo pops 4 sets no weight
plie variations 45# dumbbell goblet position 4 sets
wide stance deadlift and squat up 20# dbs 4 sets
bridges 25# dumbbell used on hips 4 sets then repeat 4 sets with pulses

Deb, all of the Build and Burn are shorter. It makes it easier to push myself or add a bit extra to the workouts. We have had a couple of Great Danes. They generally have a sweet personality. I hate that their lifespan is generally not too long compared to smaller dogs. We purchased a used Range Rover that is fully loaded with everything :D It is in great condition and not too many miles on it. The owner had buildings with multiple vehicles. There was two Hummers in the building with the Range Rover. That building was obviously a workout space as well, or else he collected fitness equipment.

Carolyn, Build and Burn is meant to do each of the 5 workouts in the order they are on the 3 discs. There are premixes though combining the workouts for a longer workout :) I really am liking them. I made cookies last night.

Valerie, yes, it is 7 to 8 years for Danes. Both of ours had problems with their legs and hips. One we had to have put down at almost 7 months. They told us she wouldn't live much past a year. The other had skin problems and she went through a time where she was in obvious pain and the different legs swelled up. The vet was able to get that under control, but then she had skin issues that kept resulting in loss of hair and staff infections. Both came from the same breeder, so I am guessing it is their breeding.

We did a hike this morning, short and fast, about 1 1/2 hours, steep. sat in the sun a bit, and back down. guessing 3 miles RT with 1000 feet gain. then did a flat walk on a wildlife refuge for another hour and a half. that was not strenuous like the first one. total of around 5 miles for the day.

I would not want a pet with bad statistics like that. 7 yrs seems way too short!. and if that is 'average life span" then half live less than that while half live longer. bad odds.

Hi Everyone,
Yesterday I did Build & Burn Upper Body Super Sets and Jessica Smith Balance & Agility. This morning I did KCM Build & Burn Kettlebell/Kickbox Fusion and Trim & Tone Cardio Only Premix.
It's been snowing all day and so far we've got 8 inches or so, on top of the 2-3 that we already had.

Deb-yes, the Build & Burn workouts are really short. I like the format of the Tabata legs workout. I liked the Kettlebell/Kickbox Fusion workout a lot too.

Valerie-Great job with the Muscle Meltdowns!

Carolyn-Nice that you increased your weights in RWH!

Lori-Live Warrior Kickboxing sounds pretty good. I'll have to take a look at that one.

Diane Sue-Great job with the weights on the Lower Body Tabatas! The Range Rover sounds very nice!

Judy, nice work today. I did the Build and Burn Trim and Tone on Monday with the Upper Supersets. It is predominantly upper body work with 8#. I will probably do Trim and Tone this week and use 10's for some of the moves. The cardio only premix is a good choice to add on with Kettlebell and Kickbox fusion.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did KCM's Kettlebell Kickbox Fusion. I really liked this a lot. I am not a big fan of kickbox, but this was fun. I like that she does each move for 30 seconds, alternating kickbox with kettlebell moves.

Carolyn, all (or most) of KCM's workouts are 30 minutes. These just are a little shorter. They are not meant to do 2 of them together, but you could do that if you want a longer workout. She also has a lot of premixes which would make a longer workout.

Valerie, do you have the Polar with the hard long piece that attaches to the elastic band ( the original)? or the one that has the transmitter that snaps on to the band? I found that the original has lasted way longer than the one that snaps on to the band. I have friends that have had Danes and Mastiffs and they do have such a short life.

Diane Sue, that sounds like a great car! That was so sad about your Danes that has those issues, It does sound like a bad breeding.

Judy, great workout combination. Once I finish the last KCM. I will start looking at the premixes.

Waving to Lori!

Take care,

Deb, i still have one of the long piece transmitters that came with my Tread climber and I swear it works better than those snap on transmitter straps. I dont know what happened to my polar one though. A lot depends on whether they are coded or not. I cant remember the reason for this though. I really had fun with Kellys Kettlebell and kickbox fusion too. There is not so much of the long punching drill combos. I dont mind punching upper drills, but they can get monotonous.

This morning I did RWH Lift It HiiT It Chest, Triceps, and Shoulders. My time was 58 minutes with 217 calories burned. Average heart rate was 108 and maximum heart rate 143.

I like what I am reading about Build and Burn and I am regretting that I didn’t preorder. I always regret not preordering from my favorite trainers!

Diane Sue, I’m sure you will enjoy the Range Rover. I don’t care for long punching drills in my workouts either.

Judy, you are getting in some good workouts. I like the way that you are mixing in your different workout series. Great job!

Hello to Deb, Valerie, and Lori.

Today I did Kelly's Build and Burn Trim and Tone and used 10# dbs instead of 8#. I wasn't sure how this would work with some of t he shoulder stuff, but I was fine with it. This was 25 minutes, 166 calories, heart rate 128 average, 169 max. I then did Kelly's Lean BOdy Circuits, boxing premix, 21 minutes, 138 calories, heart rate average 138, max 185 ??. This must have been a brief hit. Maybe when I was helping dh with some with some framing for the room he is adding upstairs. I had to reach overhead to hold it in place when he was screwing it in and helped cart some heavy stuff upstairs. I had several stop and breaks through my workout today. I finished off with Kelly's Slim Sculpting premix core/abs. 32 minutes, 15# kettlebell, heart rate 108, max 142, 143 calories. Total time was 78 minutes, calories 447 calories.

Carolyn, that is the reason I generally go ahead and purchase from my favorite instructors. I know I will end up buying Cathe's and Kelly's eventually, so I might as well just go for the pre-order which is not that much cost wise.

all my Polars have the long plastic section. I'm not sure which ones work anymore.... I should try them all, one at a time, and toss what needs batteries. we ended up with about 5 of them because they came included with equipment. the newest one works the best and 'sort of" works with the spin bike. not worth sending for battery replacement, one or 2 that work is plenty.

we did a mt bike this morning actually in the mountains. thought it would be better than it was. there's an temp inversion right now, so it's cold down low and warms as you go up in elevation. started out at 29 degrees but was 40 where we planned to ride. we thought most snow would be gone there. started at 2500 feet and rode about 2 miles up to 3200, but the snow got too consistent after that even though a south facing slope. you can ride a mt bike thru patchy snow ( 3-4 inches) but not consistent snow. so about 90 minutes of uphill . just okay. we wanted to see if this road was accessible for xc skiing when more snow, so more than one purpose today. so about an hour uphill, and then a fast descent.

Valerie, I have a hard one piece strap that I can change the battery myself with. Many have the battery built inside with no way of changing it. I guess it is just another way to get you to spend money on a whole new strap. Was the access good for xc skiing?

Good evening ladies!

This morning was a Lekfit bounce and tonight was a BBS Dance. Total time was 50mins. I plan to start back with the WS3 rotation on Monday. No workout yesterday. I needed to sleep in after my travels and worked late yesterday due to our office holiday party. It was a nice time. Good food and great conversations.

Carolyn...nice with increased weights with the RWH Bis and Shoulders workout! I do not like Imax3 at all. Never clicked with it. The KCM workouts do sound great but for me I do not regret not purchasing. I have so much going on with all my streaming!

Diane Sue...I love short workouts that I can string together. Glad you are enjoying the KCMs. I tried a couple of kettlebell workpits and they are not for me. Just did not like them at all. So sad about your Great Danes. :(

Deb...funny I do not like kettlebells but I love kickboxing! :)

Judy...I agree you always put together nice workouts. You are getting some snow! We received about 5 inches on Saturday but that is it. Been really cold the past few days. In the teens this morning. Warrior Kickboxing may be my favorite of her kickboxing.

Valerie...I hated using a chest strap. Such a pain! Love my Apple Watch for this! I am the same way with warm ups for upper body. They are a must for me. Great outdoor workouts!

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. Took a rest day. John came down with some stomach flu...ugh. I hope I don't get it.

Diane Sue, I feel the same way about kickbox combos. I like Kelly's because they are short and not a lot of memory involved. I don't use the strap that came with my treadmill. It is like the Polar long plastic one. I have never changed the battery in my one piece hard strap. I thought you had to send them in. mmmm...maybe YouTube would be where to check if it dies.

Carolyn, Cathe and KCM are the only ones I automatically purchase as soon as the presale is announced. There are a couple of KCM's I skipped, only because I didn't like what they were. (eg kickbox).

Valerie, that ride sounds cold to me...Brrr....:)

Lori, good to take a rest day, especially after late working days and travelling, ( and partying of course!)...:)

Judy, how is the weather? did you get more snow again? We have about 5 inches on the ground. It is so cold though...in the teens.

A workout, then a dentist appointment this morning.

Any plans for the weekend?

Take care,
