Morning!

The jazz couple that we saw at the coffee house last night was really good. However, there were 3 "kids"...(I call them that, they were in their 20's I would guess), babbling loudly, all about Star Wars, and fantasy characters, shuffling cards etc. All the annoying looks didn't stop them. Another gentleman from across the room actually went over and asked them to hold it down...nothing changed. I felt so bad for the performers. After the set was over, we got up to leave and I bent over them and said. "I'm sure you don't realize this but you are being incredibly rude" and walked away. No manners anymore.

I am also very thankful for this group, a place to talk about fitness, and support in many areas of our lives.

Lori, that is so great that your friend got to have company for the holiday. Where does he live? I know you said you picked him up in Boston...Our dining room does not hold that many people! I wish it did. I set up those folding banquet tables, a card table and we use a settee with TV trays in the living room. The dining room is where all the food and drinks are. It is done buffet style. I am glad I can seat 20 in the living room that way. We are not all at the same table, but it's almost like that. I don't care if John cleans, I just wish he would put stuff away and not just leave it all over the place. .

Valerie, a new bike! That's great. :). I wish our bike carrier was easier to use. I think this coming spring, I am going to figure out how to get my bike into the back of the Subaru so I can drive it to the park and ride.

Lynda, sounds like you had a great couple of days with your family. Congratulations to your son and his friend on the 2 new puppies! So cute, you will have to post pics of them here once he sends some to you. ( and I am sure he will! LOL). Have they decided on names yet? If you have a scanner, san the picture of Max and post it here.

Judy, Happy early Birthday!

Josie, have you recovered yet from the holiday with The Peanuts? LOL...

A workout, not sure what yet...I really wish those new DVD's would get here...I need some inspiration to get back into it...

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday was Live Compound Giant Sets. I like this one and it moves rather quickly. It was good to do yesterday because you only uses 8lb weights. Thinking kickboxing this morning using handweights instead of my heavybag.

Deb...omg that is so rude! I would have done the same thing and told them too. Some people just do not get it. My friend leaves today and we are heading to Boston at about 3pm. He lives in Astoria. I can't wait for the new workouts either. Loving all the clips. Hoping we have them in the next couple of weeks. I bought the downloads in addition to the DVD's.

Lynda...Mockingjay was great. Little long in some areas but I enjoyed it. They must have filmed a majority of Philip Seymour Hoffman's parts before his death. Sounds like you had a really nice time with your family. So happy you like their woman friends. Makes a huge difference. Makes it easy to Christmas shop now that you know their love for Kate Spade. Love that you bought a new coat. Good for you!

Judy...that soup does sound delicious! I have only been to a Cosi once or twice. There are none close by otherwise I would go more often. We have a ton of Panera's though. Happy early birthday!

Judy...congrats on the bike! When will it be in? We do not use Hulu at all. Between Netflix and Amazon we seemed to have plenty to watch. Last night we started watching Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Netflix has season 1, 39 episodes. This will keep us busy for a bit. Funny we like the old shows.

Hi to Josie!

Don't you just hate that ... go to a public venue and then have a loud private conversation about something else? Beyond rude. what are they thinking???

I will skip Mockingjay unless I restart from the beginning. We finished MM last night. wow. I loved the ending.... even thought I hate coca cola. Don hugging the guy at the yoga retreat was awkward..... I was afraid he was going to jump off a cliff into the ocean or something.

Deb, correction.... Netflix streaming 7.99 a month. we may keep hulu & Netflix, depending. Amazon doesn't work with Apple TV or else we'd try it. Started watching a new Netflix series called Narcs or Narcos yesterday. seems good. also watching a British series on hulu called Scott and Bailey that's excellent.

Bike should be here in a week. I have the option of not keeping if it doesn't fit right. they had no trek bike like what I ordered. this worked with my road bike so we will see. I can still ride my old one, carefully, so the chain doesn't drop off. it is quite cold here right now, mid 20's at night. with all the water and moisture, it makes for slick riding conditions. shady spots don't melt. so no riding until it warms a little. I'm OK with 40 degrees but not 24. the problem with the new bike is the wheels are 3"bigger, and the handle bars are 4 inches wider. hard to fit two bikes on a trunk rack made for 2 bikes. we didn't get a hitch on the outback, and we should have. wires run on the underside of the top tube & we don't want the bike weight on it all the time.

Judy I recommend Terry shorts and tights. they hold up well. so nice to have the right length, without extra 4 inches of fabric at the bottom. I would LOVE chipotle pumpkin soup.

so I signed up for Weight watchers again yesterday. getting nowhere on my own. it appears they're doing some sort of massive system update and nothing is working right. what bad luck!. expect it will be sorted out early this week.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did DM (63:00).

Deb, I don't understand why they go to a performance and then they don't listen to it. Reminds me of Jacob's Pillow one time. You are not supposed to bring any food into the theater, but the people behind us brought in these big cookies wrapped in that plastic that makes a lot of noise when you open it, and they just irritated the hell out of me with the gradual squeaky unwrapping. I kept turning around to give them the evil eye, but it did no good. I wasn't the only one. I told the ushers when we had an intermission and they told the people to leave their food outside. I hope there is a third season to A Place to Call Home because there are definitely issues left hanging at the end of season 2 and directions that seem ready to be developed.

Lori, that's so nice to have an old friend at Thanksgiving. Alfred Hitchcock Presents? Wow does that take me back. A lot of clever writing for that show if I remember correctly. I think I will still wait a little while before going to Mockingjay--after the audiences get a bit smaller. Good to hear it's entertaining. Jennifer Lawrence is coming out with another film titled Joy and directed by David O. Russell again. It's at least partially a bio-pic about some woman who invented a mop. Sounds weird, I know.

Judy, that soup sounds heavenly. No Cosi around here--as usual. You must have had a very restful holiday cooking for 2. That's how Christmas will probably be for DH and me.

Hi to Valerie and Josie!

Good morning,

Monday comes around so quickly doesn't it? Did everyone see the newest clip for ICE Total Body Metabolic? I think this will be my favorite of this series.

Lori, surprised you bought both the downloads and the DVD's...I thought you would strictly be a "streaming" customer now. LOL. Cathe actually responded to one of my posts! I don't think that has ever happened. I asked if the ICY Core workout was the same on all the DVD's since the clips showing it seem to have the same moves, and she responded. I wonder if Alfred Hitchcock Presents is free on Prime...I know the Twilight Zone shows are.

Judy, not sure if we have a Cosi around here...I will be googling it to find out.

Valerie, Thanks for the info on Netflix. I am watching a PBS show called Breathless, about the goings on at a London hospital in 1953. I like it...it took about 3 episodes for me to get sucked in....LOL...Good for you for starting back with WW. Sometimes we need to account for our eating in order to keep it under control...I find that when I log in MFP, I eat better.

Lynda, I am still waiting for the 1st disk of season 2 of A Place to Call Home. If the owner of the coffee shop would have been around, I would have gone to him to have him tell them to SHUT UP....for some reason he wasn't there and that is unusual.

Edited to add: the clip today of the Kickbox workout looks great! I think Amanda needs to watch a couple of the KCM workouts so see the modifier...she modifies a few things, but you can tell she still wants to do high impact, and skips a lot of things she should be modifying. JMO...

Hi to Josie,

A workout of some kind, my cousin wants to go to the track if it's not raining, stuff around here and class tonight.

Take care,

Did full pedal power spin yesterday. ended up taking me a full hour with getting on and off to adjust. with 2 different bike users, it's hard to get it set right to start with. I wore padded shorts and that changed the "fit" somewhat. I mark settings so I'm "close" to right but just a tiny bit makes a difference in comfort.
the WW program is quite a mess at the moment. I can't believe this was the time I chose to sign up! they are upgrading and are apologizing for things not working right but it's disappointing. programs on IE, ipad, and phone don't resemble each other. they are supposed to sync. ipad gives one choice for spin... 50 min and 8 "activity" points, not enough for a Cathe spin, plus it's closer to 60 min and I did at least 5 extra minutes warming up to get settings right. the IE version gives 3 intensity levels, and you fill in the time, which is better, but I tracked it yesterday and it didn't enter. Great. Deb, tracking food/ activity helps me stick to a plan. it takes time and effort to enter the data and the IE version is not showing any of it, while the ipad everything is still there. to calculate points, you enter ingredients and amounts, plus the nutritional data, # servings. once you do that, it stays there. do it right, and it's there for good and tracking is easy. I hope they get their act together soon.

Watched 'Cake" Jennifer Anniston movie. netflix streaming. Ugh. could barely sit thru it. didn't like at all. do not recommend. tedious. boring. annoying.

Deb, if I had a choice I'd get a hitch mounted bike rack. if you got a hitch on your Subaru, they are easy to use, stable, and you don't need to lift the bike high, the cradle ones especially. the one with the cup shaped bottom supports for the wheels. I always wonder who buys roof racks?? I see them on the road but I'd need a ladder to get it up there. it only takes one time to forget the bikes are up there when you drive into the garage.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both low impact hiit workouts together (50:08).

Deb, there is a lot of chatter over at Videofitness about whether 1) these are really intermediate workouts, and 2) Amanda's rather reluctant role as modifier. I guess we will just have to wait and see. The glimpses I have seen of those blasts have been pretty scary for someone who doesn't appreciate a lot of impact. I suspect I won't do them at all. Why can't there be some truly intermediate blasts that bring the heart rate up without killing the joints? I was intrigued by the metabolic clip too. Reminds me of Flextrain.

Went to see Suffragette yesterday, and now I really want to find a good book about the British movement. I had no idea how violent it came to be (the blew up Lloyd George's summer home while it was under construction and a lot of other smaller bombings) or how the only way they could get the world's attention was to have one of them make herself a martyr. She jumps in front of a racing horse on Derby Day and the film closes with old film footage of the funeral, which was a national event that received world wide attention. One major caveat: some of the dialogue is very hard to understand because a lot of the characters are from the lower classes, and it's not upper class Downton Abbey speak. Meryl Streep has a very small role as Pankhurst who incites her followers to greater and greater violence.

Valerie, that sounds kind of complicated, but if it helps you to track everything that way, then I guess it's your cross to bear.

Off to the endodontist tomorrow for a reevaluation and maybe (quel horreur!) a root canal.

Good evening ladies!

I absolutley had to force myself to get out of bed this morning to workout. Only reason why is I knew I would not be working out tonight so I got up and pushed through. Ended up doing Double Wave Hiit Pyramid from Cathe's Hiit DVD. I have done this one many times. 30 minutes and very effective.

I have watched the Metabolic clip and it does look good and it does look intermediate to me. I have not seen the Kickboxing one yet. Will watch after I post here. The others seem to be similar to her pace in her live classes - which I love. I have read some think the Live Classes are easier and I agree some are tougher than others, creating lots of choices. I would not say they are intermediate, more upper intermediate/advanced. You do get more frequent water breaks which can give the feeling of an easier workout.

Deb...lol!!! I do like all the premixes and it does not cost that much more to get them both. To make all the premixes myself would be way to time consuming. I should check Amazon Prime too. Netflix only has Season One. 39 episodes in season one so this will take a while.

Valerie....like Deb said good for you with WW! I know so many people that love WW and had great success. Although it sounds like they need to sort things out at the moment! I have not watched Cake. It did not appeal to me and now after reading your post I am glad I did not watch it.

Lynda...yes I agree we just need to wait and see. I understand that the add on blasts are suppose to be for the advanced exerciser to make these workouts apealling to intermediate and advanced. I can't wait to put a couple of the blasts together using the workout blender! I agree here too that a nice intermediate blast would have been nice too. I have not heard of that movie. Going to look into it. We are loving Hitchcock. Never realized he was very comical. How he starts and ends each episode. He is hilarious!

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Good morning and Welcome to December!

Wow, November went by quickly. Yesterday I did go to the track and do a Walk Fit workout......brrrr...it was 30 degrees....

Valerie, great job on the Pedal workout! I can't imagine doing an hour of spinning....I have never tried it but it looks so hard. I like the MFP program a lot, but only on my desktop. On the iPad it can be pretty frustrating...it's a whole different set up. Sounds like what you are running into on WW too. I agree, I would not use a roof rack....way too hard to lift on to...and your observation is right...I would forget the bike was on there too. LOL....

Lynda, good luck today at your appointment...hope you do not need a root canal. I went over to Video Fitness and read that thread on ICE...boy, there are a lot of people over there that really do not like Cathe workouts...I guess from seeing the posts here, you get to thinking that everyone adores her...like Lori said, the Blasts were to attract the Advanced people for the series. Is that a new movie out? Send me the pic again and I will post it here....( I must have deleted the original email...)...in a separate post...it is beautiful.

Lori, someone somewhere mentioned that Cathe's Live classes were more on the intermediate level. I would think she has to do that in her club...she must have all levels taking her classes, and she couldn;t always do Advanced workouts...she would lose a lot of customers. I wish she would do more water breaks on her DVD workouts! :). I didn't think about the premixes on the DVD's...they are great and it would take a long time to do them manually. I went over to Prime to see about the Hitchcock shows...not free...:(.

Josie, how are you doing?

I think I will attack my plastic cupboard today, and maybe the guest room, which is really my sewing room with a bed in it...LOL....

Take care,

Good morning. I did x train bi's tri's, and core 1 yesterday. I like the premix. transitions from weights to core smoothly. Deb, the spin disk is not bad. you set your own tension so there is a lot of user discretion in there. if a standing part is too long, I sit down, keep pedaling. I monitor my heart rate and have a limit I stay within. over 150, I back off. my rate is normally low so 150 is high, not necessarily for everyone else. I have trouble with the up/down hover moves. get my shorts caught on the tip of the seat. so I keep to the "4" sequence. same as other disks, room to modify.
We have a friend, a real tall guy. 6'6" or so. roof rack was fine ...until he opened the garage, forgot about the bikes. totaled them. Our garage has sloped doorways. we'd have trouble with even a rocket box.

I took a look at total body metabolic. looked a bit intense for intermediate. depends on how fast and "what follows what". a clip doesn't always give you the overall. I take "set up" breaks as needed. get mat/ball out of the way, check workout sheet for weight, & get the weight. pause disk 10-15 seconds. If I'm tired and out of breath, I don't need to trip over a dumbbell. the parts where she was uses a step with risers is where I use my weight bench. Liker Lynda, it reminded me of Flextrain. I never looked at videofitness. will take a look today. later

have not checked out WW today. was completely off line later yesterday. I'd read they were revamping the program but expected something at least functional . I entered a recipe for what I was planning for dinner. you enter each ingredient, nutritional data but then it wouldn't let me divide into serving size! great. no option to divide by 4 .

Hi everyone--

I did ch, sh, tris (39:30) this morning.

I just returned from my root canal. Wow--90 minutes! It was an upper molar with 4 canals to clean out. My jaw feels pretty sore, so I am skipping lunch today. I still have to have a permanent filling from my regular dentist. Since the dental office was not far from Different Drummer's Kitchen, I decided to use my birthday gift certificate there. So I bought a few things--a new cutting board, a set of beautiful martini glasses and a small pepper mill and salt shaker.

I will have to check the new clips. Someone over at VF suggested they only look advanced because they are so condensed. Deb, you are definitely right, though--a lot of people over there don't like Cathe. But quite a few do like her as well. It's just that there is such a variety of people over there who have special preferences for Classical Stretch or Yoga or Barre or walking dvds or a special love for Ellen Barrett, someone who I liked when I was in recovery mode from knee issues.

Lori, yes, Hitchcock has a very droll sense of humor. The films I taught by him were North by Northwest, Strangers on a Train, The Lady Vanishes, Vertigo, Rear Window, and Shadow of a Doubt. I couldn't stomach teaching either Birds or Marnie after I read his biography. He was really nasty to Tippi Hedren when she refused his sexual advances, and he basically shut down her career. He was also pretty nasty to Kim Novak (called her a "dumb Polack"), but Vertigo was such a great film to teach when I was doing feminist theory.

Well, the ibuprofen is kicking in. Time to go check Cathe's clips.

Here is the picture of Max that Lynda received as a gift....isn't he majestic looking?

Hi Everyone,

Today I did a new Spinerval, 49.0, "Serious Intervals". It was a great workout but I think they could have come up with a better name. I guess after coming up with clever names for the first 48 Spinervals, they just couldn't think of anything unique. Someone in the Spinerval Facebook group even offered to help with naming future Spinervals, so I guess others noticed that too.

Deb & Lynda-I went over to Video Fitness to check out what they were saying about Cathe's workouts. I was a little surprised to see so much negativity. Cathe is so popular, but there seem to be quite a number of people in that forum that don't care for her workouts.
As far as ICE goes, I am glad I preordered and I look forward to doing the series, but after seeing the clips I expect to find it a little more challenging than "intermediate" would suggest.

Valerie-Great job on Pedal Power! I need to do that one again soon.

Hi to Josie & Lori,

Judy

.Wow ...Max is one handsome dog!. Looks positively regal!. what a great pic.

Did a road ride. a lot warmer today and ice is gone. they had our normal route closed for "mowing". usually they don't close it for that, so I'm thinking they were sawing up more downed tree, so we did 25 miles on a different route that we don't like but that was the only choice. Hate riding thru a town with all the driveways and cross streets. too much stop/start.

I thought the clips look like pretty tough for intermediate. maybe the speed is a little slower? tough moves followed by easier ones wouldn't be obvious on a clip. I never visited videofitness before, but it seems like an active board. I like forums where good discussions go on, and have a wide range of input even if I don't agree with everyone.

I remember watching Alfred Hitchcock series as I kid. I liked it sometimes but I'm not inclined to re-watch old things. after watching the end of MM I have the coca cola song stuck in my head.

Good evening ladies!

Decided to take today as my rest day for this week. I think I am going to start Cathe's December rotation tomorrow. Looks fun and full of variety. Not sure when the lunch time ladies will get back to working out. We have all been so busy the past couple of months. Thinking it will be after the first of the year.

Deb... With the Live Classes there are all ages, shapes and sizes and these ladies all kick butt! I find some modify and some go all out. I find going all out ( no modifications/heavier weights) makes it more upper intermediate/advanced. That's what I love about these workouts very easy to modify up or down. Wow! I agree with the amount of people that just do not like Cathe no matter what! Oh well, you can't please everyone and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Valerie...great ride today. I go on VF all the time. Never posting just reading. I have found the topics to be very useful/interesting. My DH and I are the complete opposite. We love the older shows. Hope you soon have better luck with WW.

Lynda....ouch! Root canal! I have had several so know the feeling. Not fun at all. Assuming you need to have a crown also? Max is a handsome boy. I laughed out loud with the rolling in the turkey shit! I did not know that about Tippi and Kim. That is really sad. I have not seen many of his movies. The Birds terrified me as a child. I watched it when my mom was not around and my older brothers were "babysitting". Gave me nightmares.

Judy...agree that is a blah name. The intervals sound like fun and I bet a calorie burner! Do you have the Apple Watch? I think you do but do not remember. Do you like? Is there anything you dislike? I am toying with the idea of getting one.

Hi to Josie!

I have been working with my mother-in-law for my DH's Christmas gift. His grandfather was a 3 star General in WW2 and he is so very proud of him. She sent me his flag and all his medals (which are a ton) and I am having them placed in a display case with engraved plaques naming the medals and will give this to my DH Christmas morning. Today I went to the local company creating this for me...he is a friend of mine that I have known for 15 years. He does fabulous work and adds so much life to these display cases. He is so excited for this project as he has never did one for a general. His name is Ltg Robert H York. If you ever feel inclined google his name. It is amazing all the medals/credentials he has earned. My DH will be very emotional when he opens this.

Have a great night all!

Lori-I do have an Apple Watch. I love it! It took me a while to get used to it but now I wouldn't want to be without it. You should get one!

Good morning,

Yesterday I did X-Train Legs and boy am I feeling it today...ouch!

Valerie, that's great that you use the bike inside with all your outside riding.! I still don't know what the difference is between a spin bike and a regular stationary bike...John was looking at them to possibly start using one for exercise, but I think he got so overwhelmed that he stopped looking. If we did invest in one, I want one that I can maybe try out a spin workout on...WW does sound pretty frustrating for now...do they say that they will be done fixing it soon? LOL on the MM song staying in your head. An "Earworm"...is what I think they call that...it happened to me too. :)

Lynda, if you can't eat...SHOP! :). I hope your mouth feels better today. I was trying to resize the picture of Max for you to use as an avatar...a work in progress...I loved both the TV shows and Hitchcock's movies. I think I did hear about how he treated some of the women actors...not good. I bet there was a lot of that going on in Hollywood in those times....look at Bill Cosby..ugh...

Why do they make resizing so complicated? Is it pixels you need to go to? or vertical/horizontal numbers? or percentage? whatever that means...if anyone here (Lori?) has an easy way to convert a regular digital picture to be accepted here for an Avatar, let me know...

Judy, I think after 48 names, they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel...I agree, they should ask their users to come up with a name. KCM did that for one of her recent releases, and gave a prize to the one that won...cute marketing idea. I agree, I think the ICE series looks a little more challenging than Intermediate...but I am happy that there are no step workouts, and the Kickboxing one even looks like fun to me. I may not be selling any of these on Ebay, like I sometimes do.

Lori, that is a wonderful gift that you are having made for your DH! Good thing to take a rest day...you deserve it for sure! I like the older shows too....I am hooked on Frasier....the dialog and timing is so good...one of my favorite comedies. Have you eve tried the KCM workouts with the Lunch Ladies?

Hi Josie!

Not much going on here ....a workout, maybe sorting and doing the season clothes switch, class tonight....

Take care,

Yep, earworm. I hated that coke commercial, just like I hate coke. why is it the songs you don't like that get stuck in your brain?
Deb, I like spinning. low impact, simple, but intense if you want. I had trouble standing at first, awkward. took some time, it's fine now. I used to have a stationary bike. they are designed more for sitting. you can get a decent workout on a stationary bike (or a recumbent bike), but I doubt standing up would work. there's a huge price range for both. Our spin bike was $1200. they are available for way more (and way less) but I was sure we'd both use it .... a cheapie would not hold up. I didn't need the top line $4000 one either. It's the usual.... look see who carries what, and go try one in a store. If you had a gym membership, you could test one there. From what you've said about your husband, he would probably not go for spin. a regular stationary bike is more likely. I used one for 20 years, until I wore it out. I used to crank up the tension and work up quite a sweat.
another possibility , depending on your outdoor bike, is to put it on an indoor trainer. we had one of those for a while but DH and I couldn't use the same size bike so it was too much fuss switching bikes all the time.
Judy, what kind of spin bike do you have? I've forgotten. when we looked for a bike, there were not many "in between" options but we got a Lemond and have been very happy.

Lori that is a wonderful gift to give your husband. He will be so pleased!
Lynda, hope your dental issues settle down quickly. along with being such a misery to deal with, dental costs are out of sight. My SIL is facing a $25,000 bill for her dental work. and she didn't "let things go", just bad teeth.

I could probably deal with old TV shows, but the sound tracks drive me crazy. the overly dramatic intrusive music, laugh tracks, etc. I don't like old movies much for the same reasons. I've never seen Frasier and not even Seinfield. didn't avoid them, somehow didn't have the opportunity.
