Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 11/28

I went for my yearly check up today. I got my last pneumonia and flu vaccine today. Both on the left arm as no way did I want them touching the right. We updated a lot of stuff and I made a copy of all of my stuff from the rheumatologist and gave that to her and she copied it so she could put it in my files. She wants me to get a bone scan when I go get my mammogram next month(hopefully that works) I have been going to the same place for a lot of years for all of that.
I set up the online charts for the orthopedic center and their health center yesterday and today was able to fill out all of my check in stuff for next week and put pictures of my insurance cars on it. This is so much better than filling out tons of paper work when I get there. 6 days till I go to the orthopedic surgeon. My elbow hurts so much today when I try to straighten my arm. I really need to get some cardio in.

Valerie, I hate air travel. Those huge airports are terrible. My husband is great with travel as he has done lots of it. I am glad that your hip is better. Mine went out on me for some reason the last time I did step cardio. I don't know why, but for two days I would have times where I couldn't hardly get stood up and move my right leg. Thankfully with some careful stretching and rest it has let up.

Cathy, I do not drive when there is a hint of ice. I will cancel everything to avoid going out. That is funny that your sister had a guy singing next to her on the flight.

Carolyn, I have been trying to walk around more to help keep up some steps. I noticed that my Garmin was showing way more steps than My FItness Pal and discovered today that I still had MFP set for Fitbit. I don't know how they came up with 367 steps today though since Fitbit is stored away turned off in it's box.

Judy, that is nice that you got off for a few days so you can do some things around home. Nice work on the Peloton workout.

I did the other half of burn sets, chest/back/shoulders. skipped a couple things. I don't like supermans and only do them occasionally and had to rush the last part.

just had a power out for an hour for no reason. annoying. this post might show up twice.

got a little more info. a cortisone shot in the bursa. it helped. not perfect but better. I may have to live with occasional discomfort because some arthritis in the spine. hips look good. not going to need hip replacement!

I'm doing the elliptical and treadmill for a while today. we wanted to ride but too cold. ice is a deal breaker for riding. going to give sp[inning a rest for a while. still dont know why discomfort was so bad but a combo of therapy work and spin is suspect. Im leaning towards the therapy moves other than the stretches. I have gotten progressively more sore since starting it.
ETA power went out again! aargh. hate resetting the clocks multiple times.

ETA again, to say I did 30 on the elliptical at #9 and abs from x train. felt OK but I don't want to overdo and see how things feel tomorrow.

This morning I did SS Total Body Giant Sets. That was 56 minutes and 229 calories burned, average heart rate 109 and maximum heart rate 150.

Diane Sue, it feels good to have that yearly check up behind you. I have a bone scan scheduled for the first week in January.

Valerie, great job with Burn Sets Chest , Back, and Shoulders. I like that workout. That’s good news about your hip.

Waving hello to Judy and Cathy.

This morning I did Boxing Hiit Express. Diane Sue, I try really hard to avoid driving on bad roads these days. Couldn't avoid it when I was driving the boys to school every day, but the back and forth to NMU has wreaked havoc with that, though usually if I know it's going to be bad I make DH do it. LOL I don't think he's made a trip up there the last two years though. Usually what happens as things look like they'll be ok and then all hell breaks loose. Two years ago spring break, I stayed in Houghton Lake for two days, trapped by a system that literally parked itself over the northern lower peninsula. Nick ended up staying an extra day. Then last winter, Nick drove himself back early because he was in an apartment and could go back any time. NMU was testing all students when they arrived and they had a time slot. Things looked like they'd be okay and we hit bad roads a little over an hour into the trip. Going 25 mph on the highway and no one was passing, you know it's bad when EVERYONE is going that slow. Cars in the ditch along the way. Drove in that for over an hour. Then once I got another hour or so north, and roads were dry, I was able to get up to full speed, and we made really fast stops. I always build in time and we pulled into the parking lot 5 minutes before his time. That experience I really don't want to repeat. Fingers crossed for this Friday/Saturday.

Diane Sue glad you are getting everything set so that you'll have far less to do when you get there. Being able to do paperwork ahead of time is such a great thing! I'm sorry you are in so much pain.

Valerie that's good news about your hip! Hopefully, you'll have tools to manage when things bother you. Great job with the Burn Sets workout! Power outages are so frustrating.

Carolyn great job with SS Total Body Giant Sets!

This morning I did JS Ready, Steady, Go from Burn Fat and Have Fun. That was 31 minutes, 226 calories burned, average heart rate 131, and maximum heart rate 151. I went to the Farmer’s Market, Sprout’s and the Fresh Market all before noon. Now I need to figure out Christmas shopping.

Cathy, great job with Boxing HiiT Express. All I can say about the driving is it’s a good thing that I don’t live in a snowy location. I would never drive anywhere!

Valerie, great job with the elliptical and XTrain Abs.

Hello to Diane Sue and Judy.

The thing about snow is ...you get used to it. places that get regular snow do a better job of clearing roads. the colder it is, the less slippery it is. conditions around freezing are the worst. I don't like driving on it but I have AWD car and I go if I have to. some years we get significant snow, other years none. Drivers in WA are not great because snow is uncommon. snow driving is a skill. you get better if you do it. helps to have snow tires, AWD, patience, skip unnecessary trips.

we have had way too much time to plan for this trip and are now stressed from over planning. we are used to loading everything we need and leaving when we want. this is so different.

no power outs today. no clue why we had several yesterday. there is road construction nearby so assume
that was the cause.

Did a 35 minute pedal power spin some pushups and simple stretches.

Well today was another day, where I didn't get started off as planned and had to leave to visit my parents and ended up doing the IMAX 3 combos, but at least it was something! I need to actually start following my calendar though and not taking the easy way out! I had got with my brother and told him to pick a different day to go for Christmas because my husband is immune compromised and they are not vaccinated, or careful and around a lot of people. Found out from my parents that they really don't want them in their house either, so my Dad is going to suggest they meet half way and eat out. Not ideal, but better than them being in the house for hours.

I used to be much better about driving on bad roads and I look back at some of the things I did in the winter when I was younger and wonder who that crazy person was. LOL I can do it, I just get stressed, and while I could talk myself for years into going into town to get the boys to and from school, it was not fun. It's fairly hilly, with a lot of tree lined roads. So, my goal was always to stay out of the ditch and don't hit a deer. But 5 miles into town is way different than hours on the highway. And a two lane road has far less traffic than a highway, too. Usually one direction was better than the other or it might be one lane in places so once I got in town, I'd sit and wait until school started and traffic was even less for the drive home.

Valerie safe travels!

Carolyn great job with JS Ready, Steady, Go!
