Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 11/24

Today is a rest day. I have been preparing for two days. Lots of cooking, baking sweet potatoes yesterday and pie etc.. Yesterday I did Party Rock'n Step 1, 55 minutes, 353 calories, heart rate average 141, max 173, 5,022 steps met 7.0. I then did Jane Adams 7 for your day practices Morning Yoga, 18 minutes, heart rat 86 average, 107 max, 21 steps, 30 calories, met 2.0. Total time 73 minutes, 383 calories, 5,043 steps.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. I hope you all have a special day :)

Lori, good to hear from you and know you are okay. Enjoy the Florida weather. My brother just moved to Florida from Nebraska and lets everyone know he is where it is warm :)

Today I did X Train Bis and Tris for 48 minutes and 215 calories burned. Average heart rate was 117 and maximum heart rate was 149. I was so tired last night! I didn’t realize it, but I was going nonstop from the time that I got out of bed until I finished cleaning up after dinner. Even a small group for dinner is a lot of work.
Today I’m taking it easy. The only cooking today was turkey stock that I made from the turkey carcass and wings. It’s delicious.

Lori, it’s great to hear from you. I’m sure that you are enjoying Florida.

Hello to Deb, Judy, Diane Sue, and Valerie.

I am also tired. didn't sleep well, I stayed up later than usual and that usually means trouble. yes, I don't think its much less work for 2 people than it is for 8. all the same steps but smaller quantity.

did Ramped up upper body and most of the ab workout. wow. that is a tough one! cant do one move at all , did most of the rest of it. I do not match their weights on Ramped. I haven't done it for a while so stayed with mostly 5 lbs less. will see if I get sore from it. I wish the sound track wasn't so terrible because I don't like "no music" either.

Today I did some new workouts I purchased on Amazon Prime Video. Jessica Smith Cardio Abs ( I am thinking this came from a set (10 pounds down? as she has a link to 10# down nutrition on it) 26 minutes, heart rate 141 average, 170 max, met 8.6, 167 calories, 2,365 steps. I followed with Jessica Smith Gentle Yoga for flexibility and balance flow #1 neck and shoulders, 20 minutes, 31 steps, met 2.0, 35 calories, followed by flow 2 21 minutes, chest and back, 27 steps, met 2.0, 36 calories. I did the first one and purchased the second because I really liked it and there were moves in here I did in PT. I then did Jessica Smith You tube Total Body stress relieving stretch and some PT exercises, 27 minutes, met 2.0, 32 calories, 80 steps. Total time 94, 270 calories, 2,455 steps. No workout on Thanksgiving.

Valerie, nice job on the workout on Thanksgiving. I ended up cooking a whole turkey and a ham. So today was separating stuff into freezer bags for the freezer. Dark meat will go to the dog for a treat. I can't make any recipe with it because I never like it. I put in portions sizes for my husband and I on the other.

Carolyn, I was going pretty much non stop for two days. I stayed up to late both nights and of course woke early. Today I managed to go back to sleep and get a couple more hours of sleep. I was so tired. No energy for a workout yesterday. I wanted light today, and was surprised how much more intense the Jessica Smith Cardio Abs was. I liked it, but just didn't expect the jumping jacks and stuff which seemed like intervals with boxing. My energy just wasn't quite ready for it. Good idea making stock from the turkey carcass. My son in law cleaned ours off well. I just tossed it last night.

I feel pretty decent today, slept better and have some minimal soreness in a few spots. I like Ramped up workout.. got in more toe push ups than previous. not matching cathe , but progress.

diane sue... agree on the dark meat turkey. so strong! I can handle a little dark chicken if I hide it in soup or tostadas. I bought a turkey breast the last few years but the directions are way off. ends up overcooked. this time the minimum roasting time was 3 hrs 15 min for the size, and it was overdone at 3 hours, and I know my oven temp is right. I know undercooked is not safe, but this was way over the right cooking time. must be closer to 2.5 hours.

we started our bathroom remodel yesterday. took out old wallpaper, painted the ceiling. need new toilet. ordered a prefab sink/ granite countertop thru Lowes. should be here in a week. not ripping out old one until it shows up! this is a powder room so not too complicated. using wallpaper again so we don't have to refinish the walls.

Today I did Cardio Party for 40 minutes and 293 calories burned. My average heart rate was 133 and maximum heart rate was 151. I was going to do the abs segment but it started out with those side to side sit outs. I was not in the mood for that this morning!

Valerie, Ramped Up Upper Body is a great workout. Your bathroom remodel sounds like it will be lovely. I admire those of you who can do home remodeling projects. My husband has never been interested in trying anything. He just wants to hire someone and get it over with .

Diane Sue, I’m not familiar with the JS Cardio Abs, but some of her workouts are harder than they seem.

Hello to Everyone and have a great afternoon.

I did an awful job on this powder room initially. I had raspberry colored sink / toilet, brass fittings. at the time it didn't look too bad, but I got to hate it more every year. I don't know what I was thinking then!. I ordered some plain grass cloth wallpaper. the countertop comes with a white undermount sink, a standard brown granite pattern. we have hardwood floor I hope we can keep. the brass will get tossed and replaced with brushed nickel single pull faucet. its a tiny windowless room so not a lot too it. hard to work in because its so small. we will pull the toilet as soon as the sink arrives, the toilet will be last to go in because its such a tight space. I'm not assuming the sink will be on time. we had to take the door off to work at all. not changing position of anything, existing cabinet stays. My husband loves to do this kind of thing and I like it too. no rush on this, we can work as parts show up.

I do not like sit outs. the move from Ramped Upper Abs, was similar, supporting on one arm and raising a leg and tapping the foot. I've never been able to do those. all other moves went fine. not sure why I have so much trouble with those.

Today I did Jessica Smith Walk Strong and Have Fun: Ready Steady Go, 31 minutes, 203 calories, 3,091 steps heart rate average 143, max 165. I then did Walk Strong Have Fun: Step and Stride, 30 minutes, 205 calories, 3,145 steps. I finished with Jessica Smith Gentle Yoga Neck and Shoulder Flow, 19 minutes, heart rate 93 average, 114 max, 35 calories. Total time was 80 minutes, 6,254 steps, 443 calories.
This afternoon I started having chills an a fever :( We have plans tomorrow to go to an art show. I took a nap on the couch and slept through football and my husband taking down some pictures and changing them out. I don't usually do that. This may be a week with more days off. Wednesday I go for my heart CT and Friday I may be helping wrap presents at our church for the school student store. The children choose gifts and purchase and we get the bags with the gifts and wrap and label them for them to pick up. We usually start at 8 in the morning. I have to pick up my grandson from school early that day as well.

Valerie, I test the turkey with a meat thermometer. I don't know why they can't get the time a bit better. I cooked my ham in the convection oven and when it should have been done it was still cold in the middle. It was a cooked bone in ham, but instructions were not correct for the weight. It took another 30 minutes and the 15 without the foil after I glazed it with a brown sugar mustard and honey glaze. My husband said the turkey was better than the just turkey breast that I buy. I told him I buy the breast with bone in and it is not a turkey roll. I guess the fat from the dark meat adds flavor or something. I only ate a tiny piece. I don't know why, but my appetite has been off the last few days.
Some of the trends for colors in bathroom fixtures just do not stay around that long. I like white. Our guest bath we added is small with a toilet and sink. My husband and son took turns doing work with the other standing in the hall. I do not like working around a tight space under a toilet.
I think Cathe has those sit through moves in one of her abs workouts on the Lite workouts. One is boxing inspired and I think it is the other. That one she has you lightly sit on the ground as you sit through though.

Carolyn, those were the sit outs I was just mentioning. They are kind of rough on my shoulders right now. I was surprised how much more intense Cardio Abs was. It was more like intense intervals between some boxing moves. Abs were standing through out. Mostly with the boxing moves. I was looking for something new and found that one on Amazon Prime for 4.95 or rent for 1.99. I just bought it.

Hi Everyone,
This week went so fast! Monday & Tuesday I did Peloton rides, Wednesday I worked all day and didn't get a workout in. Thanksgiving I did XTrain Cardio Leg Blast. Yesterday I worked all day and did the 100 rep Tricep challenge from XTrain when I got home. Today I also worked all day. This evening I did Yin Yoga and the XTrain bonus rear delt workout. I took tomorrow off of work for my birthday.

Deb-I did preorder Cathe's new series. I'm really looking forward to the PHA workout.

Diane Sue- I have the Cardio Abs DVD and it is harder than most of Jessica's other workouts. I'm sorry you had chills & fever today :( There is so much going around this time of year. I hope you feel better soon.

Valerie-Great workouts this week! I don't like those sit outs either. I bet you will love your new bathroom!

Carolyn-I have a hard time with the ab workouts in the LiTe series. I'm sure I'll get into them eventually but I still prefer the ab routines from XTrain and earlier workouts.

I used a thermometer on the turkey but I was past done already. I checked it before the "minimum " time according to the info on the bird, but it was already too done. tasted OK anyway, but I was surprised, according to the packaging, It should have roasted another hour.
I agree, the sit out kind of moves are hard on shoulders. I skipped them entirely on the Ramped upper. my shoulders had already done enough! even so, I somehow can't get the position right on those moves. I keep trying though.

I am looking forward to the new colors in the powder room. for some reason I was enchanted with porcelain colors and it was a big mistake. white will be such an improvement.

Judy, Happy Birthday. I cant remember telling you.

today I did 35 on the elliptical, 60 knee pushups, abs from Hard strikes, and a few extra sets of sit up moves.
