Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/20

Diane Sue, I looked today and saw that WS3 is $78.88. I think that I ordered it before it came out and it was a bit cheaper. Jessica only sells her dvds through Amazon.

Good morning,

No workouts to report. I have had some lower back issues since the trial last weekend. I attributed it to the amount of standing around and waiting etc, thought it would subside, but it has not.

Diane Sue, good that you are done with PT. Hopefully you will continue to improve. I must be thinking of R/with HIIT workouts....I know that I really liked #2, the one with db's used. I had no idea there were other types of dominoes either! I wonder if you use an Amazon credit card on DVD's from Amazon if they would rebate the 5%?

Valerie, the Walmart phone I got when I first retired did not have a contract. However, you had to purchase minutes that came on a card or something right at the store. You could probably get them on line shipped to your house, but that would require that your sister be tech savvy enough to load them on. This was also a smart phone, although a very limited one. Saw an "Eliptigo" on the street yesterday, first time I have ever seen one of these. An elliptical, that moves like a bike, to be used outside. Very strange. I wonder how it brakes. Hope you are able to keep occupied while in AZ. Good that there is a gym available. Do you have something like Travel Fit to bring with you? Its a great workout, can even be done in your hotel room. All you need is a band and something to play it on.

Carolyn, I know a little late, but "welcome back". Travelling with weather situations can be so scary, and exhausting. Good that you lost weight at least! :)

Hi to Judy & Lori

Take care,

Deb, I looked for a flip phone / minutes . DH had one just for emergencies a long time ago. even years ago BB stopped selling those and went with only contract phones. I looked at Best Buy, target, and a few other places but everything required a contract, even the "senior " phones that get advertised a lot. on TV shows, they have people using "burner" phones. I never found one. would be another device and another phone number. it turned out that she is more incapable than I thought. getting this phone free plus service contract..... I thought, "terrific problem solved"... but she is unwilling to learn anything. I have not heard from her. long ago I toyed with the idea of buying her a computer. glad I didn't waste the money. it would sit in the box, unused, like everything else. she cant even set up voice mail on her land line, as far as I know has never had a way to get messages on her regular telephone. ETA I didn't try Walmart since she can't get to one. I wanted a store she could get to if there were any issues.

I have workouts but no device to play. last hotels we stayed in didn't have dvd players. I'll print worksheets, plan to use cardio equipment. I can do treadmill, elliptical, bike. its a large community with a central gym. her husband golfs and she doesn't exercise, ever. we will get in plenty of walking. if I get 2 days of workouts I'll be happy.
I hate using "public" equipment. usually things don't work well. I worry about years of sweat and bacteria on every surface. if friend has a DVD player I can do something at her house. will have to see. many people stream and don't have them anymore, and if living room is carpeted or noise would disturb everyone else, it wont work.

Today I did ICE Chiseled Upper Body for 46 minutes and 277 calories burned. My average heart rate was 125 and maximum heart rate was 154.

Deb, I’m sorry about your low back issues. Hopefully it will clear up soon. The elliptical/bike sounds odd. I haven’t seen those yet.

Valerie, getting in two days of some type of exercise plus walking will help. It certainly won’t match your usual activity level, but that’s not bad for a vacation.

Hello to Diane Sue, Judy, and Lori.

Hi Everyone,

Chris decided that he wanted us to put track lighting in our kitchen so we are back in remodeling mode again. He's been doing most of the work as it's a small kitchen and only room for one person on a ladder. He removed the popcorn ceiling, existing lights and has repainted the ceiling. He's hoping to have the lights up and working this weekend. I'll post photos when it's done.
Monday I did a 60 minute Peloton Power Zone Ride. Tuesday I did Jessica Smith bonus stretches after work. Wednesday I did Jessica Smith Lower Body Circuit Walk, 10 Minute Quick Mix Strength Premix and Walk On Power Posture Walk. Yesterday I did a 45 minute Peloton Power Zone ride. Today was another active rest day, I did the Power Posture walk and a 15 minute Jessica Smith stretch bonus.

Deb-That's great that you had 0 on your angiogram! I am really glad I had the test and will still try to keep my cholesterol below 200, but I am more skeptical than ever about the significance of cholesterol and the pushing of statins. I'm sorry about your low back :( I hope it feels better soon.

Diane Sue-I think you would really like WS3. It is expensive. Like Carolyn, I remember there being some kind of discount if you bought it when it first came out. I just looked up my order and I paid $63.10 for it.

Carolyn-Great workouts this week! I'm glad you made it back home safely.

Valerie-I agree with Carolyn, getting 2 days of exercise plus walking is pretty good for a vacation.

Hi to Lori!

Judy

This morning I did Jessica Smith Walk Strong Get Fit and Have Fun: Have a Ball, 36 minutes, 208 calories heart rate 133 average, 169 max,2,650 steps. I then did Walk Strong Balance + Inner Strength: balance and agility that uses a band, heart rate average 112, max 145, 114 calories, 30 minutes, 1,136 steps. I still have the third one in this set that is light weights and focuses posture that I want to get. Total time was 66 minutes, 322 calories, 3,786 steps. So much rain the last two days. I picked up my grandson from school today. My first time to this school and it took me 40 minutes to get there. On the way back we stopped at the bank and Sprouts before I came home.

Deb, I am sorry that you are having low back problems. I hope that it takes care of itself. Raw Hiit low impact 2 was always my favorite. I liked using the weights. Number one had the mountain climber moves or something, I remember there was two times getting down on the floor and she did 24 reps on one of them as you would think you were done and there were several more repetitions. I did try using my ibotta app for the downloaded Prime videos that I have purchased, but I don't see any rebates coming in on them. I also have purchased and rented through my ibotta app and have not seen a rebate there either from Amazon. I have lots of small rebates but they all say grocery, personal care, home, and pet. I have received the 5% cash back rebates when using my Amazon card when purchasing though. I just don't have my video rentals and purchases linked to the credit card, they are linked to my bank card. I have purchased larger items through the ibotta app and got rebates and used the Amazon card and got another 5% cash back. I did this with the microwave and my dryer. Items have to be Amazon prime products most of the time.

Valerie, your sister reads, right? Why can't she read instructions? I keep a couple of workouts downloaded to my tablet, so I have something to do without needed internet or anything. Otherwise I can log into FitnessBlender.com and do a workout online for free using the internet. They don't play music on their workouts though. Years ago I just took some dvds along, but hotels and stuff rarely have a dvd player anymore. Just wifi. Staying with someone else the problem is space to workout and like you say, not disturb anyone. I remember using tubing and a dvd at my husbands sister's house in the bedroom. It is awkward.

Carolyn, nice workout. I haven't heard of an elliptical bike. It is hard to picture.

Judy, your work in the kitchen will look great. Our ceiling was a drop down ceiling with florescent lights. We took it all out and made the ceiling all even ( one end went up and the lighting was like a box) Then we put in the tin ceiling and new molding around the top. It really updated. Popcorn ceiling is a lot of work getting rid of. Nice workouts. I think that I would like Walk Strong 3 too.

I did 30 on the elliptical, ab workout, 40 push ups, and tricep push ups. busy day otherwise.

diane sue, I have no clue..... yes, she can read, she has a frigging college degree! in ways she is dumb as a rock. we are not close. I do this because no one else will, she has literally pissed off every other person. because our brother screwed both of us badly but I am OK and glad to be done with him too. she has no resources, in no small part because of her inability to get along with anyone and her penchant for bad choices. I am not in that position, and I feel bad for the spot she has gotten herself in, but there is no fix especially when she pushes back at every effort to help her situation. have not heard from her so maybe I will get my vacation in peace.

Judy, we put in "under cabinet" lights in our MT house. we like them a lot. they illuminate without being over bright. yes, goodbye popcorn! Hope your project turns out well. up[dating the kitchen is one of those projects that is absolutely worth the time and money.

I will take a couple disks along in case things work, along with a couple work sheets. I have no idea if I will have good options, but I can use cardio equipment, do push ups / abs and not feel like a blob after a week of sitting and riding. I don't need to make it a killer week, but at least not feel like the Pillsbury dough boy.

Deb, low back issues are usually best treated with movement, gentle movement, not plain sitting or bed rest. hope you are improving. whenever Ive had a backache, I find ab work and yoga stretches help.

Today I did RWH Low Impact HiiT Two for 32 minutes and 218 calories burned. My average heart rate was 131 and maximum heart rate was 153. I had planned to do Abs Two, but changed my mind and skipped it.

Deb, I think this is the workout that you wanted to do earlier this week. Cathe uses 8# and 10# dumbbells. I used 5# and 8#. You should try a non-Cathe workout as you wait for your back to feel better.

Judy, it sounds like the kitchen project is going well. I know that you will be pleased with the results.

Hello to Diane Sue, Valerie, and Lori.

Today I did Walk Strong Build Balance + Inner Strength Poise and Grace 36 minutes, heart rate average 118, Max 148, 1,267 steps, met 6.5, 164 calories. I used 1,2, and 3 # dumbbells and modified on the shoulders. This is supposed to be for posture. I then did Jane Adams 7yoga practices for your day: Core Strength, 38 minutes ( I did a few other stretches) 114 steps, 50 calories. Total time 1 hour 14 minutes, 214 calories, 1,481 steps.

Valerie, I just feel like I need some activity when we go on vacations and stay with friends and family. I think my joints and everything do not appreciate me sitting around the whole time. Often we have been visiting, where we just sat and visited and ate tons of food. Never feels good. I am sure you will figure out something, you are very dedicated.

Carolyn, I have not done much of the usual ab work lately because most of it seems to stress my neck a lot. I miss ab work though. I used to do some every day.

I will get in enough activity. my friends don't do "formal" exercise but we will walk a lot, so if I use the gym twice I won't feel like I was a slug.
we rode our 15 mile road ride thus morning, about 1 hr 30 min. took a long break near the end because it was so pretty out with fall color and leaves falling everywhere.

diane sue, absolutely right, cathes ab routines are sometimes harder on the neck than anything, at least I think so. I often put a hand behind my head to keep it under control. I get stiff and sore from, a full day of driving, its the worst! when we have a long drive day, I make sure I walk as much as possible with bathroom stops, but sitting immobile for so long is hard.
I'm not sure how much I will be around next week. Deb, hope you feel better. Lori, hope you are doing OK. Judy best of luck with the kitchen redo.
