Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/15/2023

No workout today as I shopped. Got my COVID vaccine at the Meijer Pharmacy while I was there. They were certainly fast. No one was in the room to get the vaccine more than 3 minutes. Previously I've only gotten them at the health department and they have a whole different vibe. But they don't have the new vaccine yet and now that it has to be paid for by insurance I had to make sure I went somewhere it was covered. Thought it was odd they weren't making anyone wait the 15 minutes. Wasn't even mentioned. I've never had any issues with vaccines, and not only did I leave I apparently broke the don't drive for 15 minute rule, too. I did some googling and it's still the recommendation to wait.

Judy I've never had a cat that had issues once at the vet. They usually either love the attention or just keep trying to get away and hide. But when it comes to accidents at least they are used to it and treat it like no big deal. Apparently even when it's a big mess. Great job with Live #426, PHA Heavy Weights Express, rowing and JS walk.

Carolyn nice job with KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix and XTrain Bis and Tris. Handicap parking is a good option to have. My parents would be very limited without these days.

Diane Sue great job with CDorner Legs and Abs and mobility/flexibility.

Valerie sounds like a nice hike even though you didn't see anything on the hike itself and your ride today. Sounds like challenging terrain. I hope you are able to get in another rode ride next week.

Today I did Raw Step Boxing, 29 minutes, 139 calories, heart rate 122/157. I forgot to check steps. Up till 13 minutes my heart rate was stay 110-113. I need to do a pre-workout warm up so my heart rate isn't so low at the start. I also did CDorner 30 day mobility and stretch challenge day 5, 15 minutes, 25 calories. Total time was 44 minutes, 164 calories. I did not have much time for my workout today,

Valerie, good job on the 4.5 mile hike yesterday. It is too bad that you did not see any critters around. Great job on the mountain bike riding. I hope it is not too wet for you next week.

Judy, nice work on PHA Heavy weight Express and todays active rest day of 15 minutes of light rowing and JS walk workout. I think I got the computer fixed. Once I cleared the Cache and history things went back to normal. I kept trying all kinds of things. The computer is supposed to clear the cache if it gets to full so I am not sure why that helped.

Carolyn, nice job on X=Train Bis and Tris timesaver premix.

Cathy, your cat escape and mess does not sound like fun. I am sure the vet's office is used to accidents. I don't think that they had crates when I was a kid. My family drove from Colorado to California once with a Siamese cat and a spaniel with 3 kids. The cat yowled most of the trip and hung onto us with its claws. Fortunately, it did not fight with the dog since they usually did not get along. My husband and I always kept the cats indoors, so picking them up and taking them to the car was not an ordeal. It was when we took them out of the car into a vet with barking dogs that they had lots of anxiety. I have never had a vaccine that had recommended to wait to drive. Is that only the Covid vaccine? I have never had one.

Last night was my night for poor sleep. I had caffeine too late yesterday and it really messed me up. I went to bed around 1 and didn’t get to sleep until after 3. I got up around 7 so less than 4 hours sleep. It was not a very productive day. Today was another active rest day. I did a 15 minute beginner rowing workout and 20 minutes of restorative yoga. I plan on doing a more challenging workout tomorrow.

Carolyn-Great job with XTrain Bis and Tris timesaver premix. That’s good that you got the parking permit.

Valerie-Great job with the mountain bike ride. That sounds like a challenging area to ride in.

Cathy-CVS did the same thing when I got my flu shot a couple of weeks ago. They used to make me sit in a waiting area for 15 minutes minimum after a vaccine, this time they said it wasn’t necessary. I had planned on getting the Covid vaccine at my annual exam last week but my doctor said I didn’t need to get them anymore. I’ve already had the 2 initial ones in 2021, then 3 boosters in 2022. He said that since I’m not high risk that he didn’t recommend getting another one. Shadow loves getting attention at the vet’s office. She really puts on a show for them and they love her. Chino is another story. He is miserable and terrified the entire time he is there. I feel so bad for him.

Diane Sue- Great job with Raw Step Boxing and the mobility and stretch challenge. That’s good that your computer went back to normal. I probably won’t get anymore covid vaccines unless my doctor recommends them again. He was all about them in 2021 and 2022 but apparently he has changed his mind.

Since my arm is sore today, only reaction, I opted to do cardio instead of weights. I probably could have done weights, but it wouldn't have been comfortable. So, I'm trying to figure out how to shuffle this weeks workouts around as my rotation goes Friday-Thursday and I'm driving up to Marquette Wednesday. I did the step and last hi-low sections of Step, Jump and Pump.

Diane Sue great job with Raw Step Boxing, mobility and stretch. I far prefer to have my cats only indoors, but I was overruled years ago on Chester Fred by my husband who was determined that he should be able to go out to be with his BFF the dog. That just steam rolled. Now two of the three go outside, and honestly if you try to keep them in when they want to go out you will lose skin. I've tried bringing Tux in a couple more times now and he's extremely hyper and just obsessed with me and being petted and this morning with Flopsy sitting outside the bedroom door all he wanted was to get back out. I'll keep trying a bit at a time and maybe when his hormones settle down he won't be so crazy.

Judy nice job with the rowing and yoga. Sorry about your poor nights sleep. I have the safe issue with caffeine. I usually have a cup of green tea with breakfast and then I'll toss the bag, rinse the cup and use it later in the day, but the other afternoon, I realized as I was going to drink my tea that I hadn't tossed out the green tea bag and there were two tea bags in the cup so I tossed it. Even diluted I wasn't taking any chances. I'm not high risk for COVID but my husband is, so I err on the side of caution.

Today I did STS 2.0 Lower Body 1 express, 2 sets maximum. My time was 45 minutes with 147 calories burned. My average heart rate was 108 and maximum heart rate was 150.

Cathy, great job with cardio from Step, Jump, and Pump. I got my vaccines a few weeks ago and my arm was sore the next day. I was told that I could wait a few minutes before leaving after the vaccinations but it wasn’t required. Forgoing weights the next day was smart.

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Step Boxing and CDorner Stretch/mobility challenge.

Judy, I’m so sorry about the lack of sleep. Nice choice of recovery workouts with beginning rowing and restorative yoga.

Hello to Valerie.

we did a hike this morning, bout 5 miles for about 3 hours. last hike here. beautiful day warm and sunny but that means few critters to watch. all we saw was on the drive into the park. deer, elk, pronghorns, bison. we saw a chippie on the hike and a bison. not too exciting.

I am caffeine sensitive too. noon is the latest, usually I don't have any after 8 or 10 am. if we are hiking or riding, a little coffee at the halfway point helps my speed. gets burned off but mid day is still the latest. . still cautious because Ive had nights like yours judy. I dislike tea so its coffee for me.

one huge difference is getting the cat into the carrier going to the vet. after the vet is done, every cat we've owned has jumped back into the carrier like it was their most favorite place. we've had indoor/outdoor cats but the next one I want indoor. seeing the predator population in our yard at night was a shocker. no wonder the neighbors lose pets often. cats especially. all our pets have been adult shelter cats and once they've spent time outside, its hard to convince them to stay inside,

for a good mountain biker this isnt ideal. its not smooth, banked or designed for riding. it's rough and mainly an old road disintegrating. hunters use it for access but they use horses or ATV's. sections are collapsing and a big rig might get in and then not be able to get out so vehicle traffic was stopped a couple years ago.

we got the last covid booster. seems a lot of people we know who never had it have gotten it recently so we both got boosters. didnt even get a sore arm. DH needs shingles vaccine. thats one that can sneak up on you. I know two people ( recently) who got shingles and it was very difficult for them. eye or facial involvement is nasty. if you had chicken pox as a child it can flare as you get older and in bad places. both people I now had eye involvement.

I slept much better last night. Today I did Live #366 PHA Supersets #2, no repeats and a 10 minute row.

Cathy-Great job with Step, Jump and Pump. It makes sense to err on the side of caution since your husband is at risk.

Carolyn-Great job with STS 2.0 Lower Body 1 express, 2 sets maximum.

Valerie-Great job with the hike. I've become more caffeine sensitive as I've gotten older. When I was young I could drink coffee all day at work and it didn't phase me. Now I can only have 1-2 cups in the morning or else it will keep me up most of the night. I’ve had the Shingrix vaccines but Chris still needs to get his.

Hi to Diane Sue

This morning I did P30 Upper Body. I swear Cathe uses just crazy heavy weights in that workout given the rep speed. I match her weights on far more exercises in STS 2 than that one. It's another dreary rainy day here and I'm really over it. I tried to bring Tux in this morning for awhile, but he gets so antsy and then just goes to the door of the room wanting out. We don't have a good set up for him at night yet, so he's going to have to stay in the next two nights as we're getting down around 30. In the past, the strays have always used the neighbors buildings for shelter, but they all had other cats around to follow, there are no others right now and he's clueless so he just sleep in his open box on the porch.

I realized I was sensitive to caffeine back in the 80's, which might explain the trouble I had sleeping as a kid, because I drank a lot of ice tea. Because drinking water back then was considered odd, It was all Kool-aid, tea, lemonade (with lots of sugar) etc. OTOH my Mom at 82, who started drinking coffee when she was about 10, still drinks 4-5 cups of black coffee a day.

Valerie I agree when at the vets as soon as they are done all they want is to get back in the carrier. And I often had to turn the carriers and block the entrance because if they were free for any length of time, all they wanted was to get back in which would mean dragging them back out! Even if you didn't see much on your hike, you still got to see some cool animals on the drive there. Chipmunks are quite prevalent here. They have holes all over the yard to escape the cats and they will also go through the trees to the tree line like the squirrels do which surprised me as prior to them appearing in our yard, once we no longer had a dog, I'd never seen chipmunks do that. I also know people who have been getting COVID for the first time lately. Encouraging Nick to get his at least a couple weeks before he flies home for Christmas. He already got his flu shot which was free, but he'll need to track down a place his insurance covers.

Caroline great job with STS 2.0 Lower Body 1.

Judy nice job with Live #366 PHA Supersets #2 and rowing?

Hi Diane Sue.

Today is a rest day. I went to the Farmer’s Market and picked up some nice produce. I’m tempted to try that gigantic squash that I first saw a few weeks ago. Today would have been a good day because I had a close parking spot. It’s so big that I don’t want to carry it far. My husband is out with his friends for their monthly lunch and I have a rare afternoon to myself. I call them the old guys gang.

Valerie, nice job with the 5 mile hike even though you didn’t see many critters. They don’t seem to call the latest Covid vaccine a booster anymore. The virus has changed so many times that it’s very different from the original version. I had the shingles vaccine a few years ago. I want to make sure that I don’t get it.

Judy, I’m glad that you slept better. I’m more sensitive to caffeine now than I was on the past but not to that degree. I can remember when I would drink a cup of coffee after dinner! I would never sleep if I did that now. Nice job with Live PHA Supersets and 10 minutes of rowing.

Cathy, nice job with P30 Upper Body. I agree with you about the weights that Cathe uses with the speed of the workout.

Hello to Diane Sue.

Yesterday I did KCM Super Sculpt #1 and used 3# dumbbells for the drills portion and 2 risers like Kelly. This was 33 minutes, heart rate 136/159, 178 calories, 2,566 steps. I followed with CDorner Mobility Challenge day 6 Total Body 13 minutes, 20 calories. Total time was 53 minutes, 198 calories, 2,641 steps. I had to get done quick so I could go get my new glasses. For some reason I was thinking that Super Sculpt was going to be heavier weight work. Once started I just kept at it. Today I have my grandson visiting so the only thing I did was Day 7 of the mobility challenge which was 11 minutes for feet and ankles.

Judy, nice job on PHA # 366 Supersets and row yesterday. I have to be careful of having caffeine in the afternoon and evening. I used to drink loads of caffeine and energy drinks when I was younger. I could never do that again. I would find myself staring at the ceiling most of the night. I am glad that you finally got some sleep. My doctor has never mentioned the covid vaccine when I have went in.

Cathy, good job on P30 Upper Body. I find Cathe moves faster than I feel is safe for me with heavy weights. STS 2 is great for slower moves. The only cat I see around here belongs next door. It will come up and sit on our doorstep when their garage is open. I am guessing most of the time it is in the house.
I growing up we had lots of iced tea. Soda pop was just a treat when we went out. I had my first coke at 7 in a hotel in England. At 10 I got to have coffee once in a while.

Valerie, nice work getting in the hiking yesterday. I have not heard of any cases here of covid other than my husband and I and I am pretty sure we picked it up on the train to Fort Worth. I worry more about getting the flu than covid. I had a 99 fever for a day with covid. It was the strep that we had with it that was the worst. Once the antibiotic started working I felt much better. I have got the flu vaccine most years though. I also got shingrix. People with health issues should probably get the vaccine though.

Carolyn, enjoy your rest day. Nice work with yesterday's STS 2 Lower Body 1 Express yesterday. That is funny about the old guys gang.
