Good morning,

Well the UTI came back yesterday, and now I am in a holding pattern waiting for the results of the urine analysis. Puss and me....we are a great pair. Lots of water, cranberry juice and the over the counter stuff AZO until they get the results. No experimenting with antibiotics for this girl.

Valerie, yes there was a big surprise in TGW season 5. Not sure if I liked it but it is what it is. 'Indigenous Peoples Day"???? I had never heard that. Unbelievable.

Lori, have a great trip!

Lynda, the dinner sounds great, and how nice that they acknowledge your DH's contribution to their menu. I wish there was a place like that near here. That idiot announcing he had Ebola should be thrown in jail.

Josie, hope your DB is getting better,

I fly out today at 5:30, hopefully will be able to stay for the whole time. I am supposed to get the fax and phone number of a drugstore near the hotel so when/if my results come back before I leave, they will call them into there. Keep your fingers crossed. They said maybe Tuesday, but most likely Wednesday. My plane leaves at 3:40 pm Wednesday.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did BarreAmped. I didn't do the whole stretch, so I guess it was about 66 min. I really enjoyed this. What is particularly good about Suzanne Bowen is her very clear directions and form pointers. I really felt some of these exercises in my butt and hamstrings, and once again, even with 2 lb. dumbbells, I felt it in my shoulders. She only recommends going up to 3 lbs. on this one. I also like the fact that there are not endless repetitions, but just enough to feel it working and your muscles trembling. One more thing: I worried that this would be exactly like the BarreAmped Bootcamp, but it's not. That was one of my issues with P 57--all of the routines felt the same to me. Of course, the other issue was Tanya and her idiotic chatter. Couldn't deal with that in the morning eventually and the abs on the second P 57 hurt my lower back.

Deb, I hope you don't get sicker with the stress of travel. I see that Amazon has a preorder for Downton Abbey's fifth season. Are you going to buy it so you can binge watch, or wait for the PBS online? I think the reason for the surprise in TGW was similar to the one in Downton Abbey--an actor wanting to leave the show.

Josie, I saw your post on the old thread. What plans does your DH have with retirement? That's great about your brother. What kind of workouts do you have planned for home?

Valerie, I don't know why they think calling Columbus Day "indigenous peoples' day" will make an iota of difference for the wholesale slaughter and infection of New World people brought on by Columbus' discovery of America and the influx of Europeans looking for the city of gold. Political correctness just seems to make self-righteous do-gooders self-congratulatory.

Beautiful fall day again!

Really.... Seattle does not call it Columbus Day anymore ( as of this year) because we are supposed to be angry that Columbus, hundreds of years ago, acted in the way they did. They were men of their time! How ridiculous to try to whitewash past atrocities by renaming the holiday. now italian american groups are angry that columbus' name is being denigrated. Just beyond silly. re naming a day somehow atones for it? we can't change the past!. It just seems that the city council could make better use of their time.

Anyway Puss is totally back to normal and we are relieved. he will stay on the new food and that should prevent this from recurring even though we don't know the exact reason it happened. if it happened once, he'd be prone to a repeat so we will stay on the expensive food which I think made more difference than anything else.

TGW and Downton used the same approach to release an actor from a series.... but both series used the technique with great results.

Deb, hope you can get clear results with the approach you're using. How are you able to get prescriptions filled at a pharmacy when you are out of your home state? is there something special set up? I know DH never could write or call in scripts for patients who were in another state. ....

Did a road ride today, 25 miles after taking yesterday off.

Josie DH's retirement is not far off.... you need to get yourself ready for a lot more togetherness than you've been accustomed to. not necessarily a bad or a good thing just a big change. good to hear he's getting a good deal.

Hi Everyone,

I did Muscle Endurance yesterday. It felt good to be back to weights. I kept it a little light to be safe.

Deb-I'm sorry about your UTI. I hope you find out the cause and can get a prescription for it quickly. I don't blame you
for avoiding antibiotics.

Lynda-BarreAmped sounds like a good workout. I will be doing one of her workouts tomorrow. I don't see BarreAmped on her streaming site but I'm sure I'll find something like it.

Valerie-Great job on riding 25 miles! DH wants us to do some cold weather riding this year so we have been working on getting the right clothes. I did a short ride outside today, just a few miles, to start acclimating to the colder temps. I usually don't ride outside when it's below 60, but I'm going to support DH with whatever he wants to do, after the year he has had.

Hi to Lori & Josie!

Judy

Judy getting clothes right is a challenge. it was not that cold yesterday. 55 - 60 threatening rain but breezy & not really cold. IMO focus on your head first.
the first thing is a helmet cover. made a huge difference in total warmth. I also have a skullcap hat that goes under the helmet and a windblock earband.... this makes for a very attractive look!! often I use the helmet cover on to cut wind chill even if it's dry. considering how much it gets used, it was a bargain, about $20. the cover, hat, and ear band weigh only a couple ounces total, and take up little space. I bought new gloves last spring that are full fingered windblock, pearl izumi. full gloves don't have much palm padding but we do less mileage. if my head and hands are warm, the rest of me is usually OK.

then we do layers. short sleeve poly bike shirt, then a quarter zip long sleeve, then a light bike jacket over. the quarter zip didn't last long yesterday but it's not bulky and easy to stow in a small pack. for us this combo covers a wide range of temps. I still wear shorts. I have some capri length pants wear as it gets colder. I also have a pair of "wind block "tights that I use more for mt biking but sometimes for road also. they are warm but way too long. bike clothing is not made for short people.... as if everyone is a 6'6" skinny Norwegian with a 36 inseam. these have a ankle zips but I turn several inches of fabric "under" or they'd get caught in the chain. separate padded undies under the tights. buying tights with padding was expensive and unlikely to fit. we can amp up the warmth of each layer as it gets colder but stick to layered approach.

HTH. DH and I are pretty good at staying warm without hauling a suitcase of stuff.

Thanks Valerie, that really helps! I think I will be making a trip to REI this week to look for the helmet cover, cap and earband. I have a pair of Pearl Izumi winter bike tights that I got a couple of years ago. They are pretty warm. I probably need better gloves as my hands really get cold. I'm mostly worried about head and hands.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK with 1 lb. gloves (55:15). I have doms in my glutes and hamstrings from yesterday. I'm impressed.

Good news on Puss, Valerie. How much more expensive is the new diet--double, triple? If that's the solution to the problem, it's worth the expense I'm sure. That is quite an array of clothing you put on. I guess that's why I love summer--sundress and sandals is my idea of comfort. I think we are almost out of warm days. It's supposed to go up to 70 tomorrow, though. You would go crazy at Williams with political correctness. Every time there is some nasty bit of graffiti, everything stops and there's a big meeting to discuss and consciousness-raise. There is a whole day in the second semester devoted to sessions of heightened awareness on race, gender, rape, disability, hazing, homophobia, gun violence, etc. etc. I guess it's helpful, but I sometimes came to feel like the same battles to fight prejudice were being fought over and over and over.

Hope you are enjoying your vacation, Lori!

Judy, Muscle Endurance is a great total body workout. I hope Cathe's new weight workouts are offering something a bit new, though. I really love Flextrain and enjoy how fast it goes. It felt totally new for me.

Let us know how you are feeling Deb--that is, if you don't have to pay for wifi.

Hi to Josie!

Good afternoon ladies!

Having a great time. My MIL likes to walk with a neighbor in the morning so I joined in. Boy do these ladies move! Afterwards they alternate which home to go to for a stretch but I opted for travel fit then SB lower body interval. I felt really worked by the time I was done. Weather has been nice although rain tomorrow so we are planning to see Gone Girl. Perfect for a rainy day.

I am getting really excited about Cathe's new workouts. Looking at her pictures from Daytona she looks extremely fit! The past couple of days we have eaten way to much and I am feeling rather uncomfortable. These workouts can't come soon enough!

Valerie...I think changing Columbus day to something else is ridiculous. I am so sick of all this political correctness. Enough already. I agree with Lynda that is some layering you have going on. Makes sense though if your head and hands are good then the rest will be comfortable.

Lynda...I really like Flextrain too and agree it just flies by. I swear SB is transforming my thighs. I have noticed a huge difference in the the area above my knees. That was always my problem area and they really look so much nicer from doing her barre. Really toned.

Deb...so sorry that the UTI is back! You poor thing and then have to travel. Hope the meds are really working for you.

Judy...no she does not have BarreAmped on her streamming but has tons that are similar. I signed up for a year and happy that I did. Between SB and Cathe streaming I could not be more happier with my workout choices!

Josie....hoping your brother is still continuing to feel better.

Have a great day all!

did another ride today, just 19 miles some parts thru a nearby town, so not too fast. lots of cross streets and traffic so you can't get up speed. not crazy about this route.

it was 55 will be raining for the next few days so we decided to go again. I wore same thing as yesterday except used an ear band. I'm fussy about my ears. if they're cold, I'm uncomfortable so I often take both a hat and an ear band. Part of the deal of finding out what bothers you and what doesn't. we wear similar clothing to about 40 degrees, usually opting for things that block wind, rather than big puffy insulation. lower than 40 we don't usually ride. Happy shopping Judy. I've been a rei member since the early '70's when it was one ratty store in downtown seattle. My, how it's changed!

the layering technique is common for most outdoor sports where staying warm and dry is the best way to enjoy things. we use lots of the same gear and the same approach for hiking, mt biking, xc skiing, etc. no cotton clothing. layers so you can adjust so you're comfortable but not sweating.

Lynda, the new food is about $40 for 5 lbs so it's probably 5-10x more expensive. prices vary all over the map for dry kitty food , and the size of bag you want to have on hand. haven't priced bigger size bags or looked to see if there are other places to get it. Puss doesn't eat that much so I'll spend a little more a yr on food instead of vet bills.

I'm generally socially liberal and supportive of "rights" for most groups but somehow this one just feels like people looking for issues to whine about. so happy Columbus Day to every one!

Lori how cool that your MIL is in shape and works out. wonderful she has neighbors who do the same. I LOVE to see that...

Valerie...yes it is awesome that my inlaws are very fit. MIL is 80 and FIL is 82 and both very active. They walk, swim and golf several times a week. Walking with the ladies this morning was wonderful and hoping I am as fit as them when I am in my 80's!

Hi all,

It sounds like everyone is having a good week. I am back in the hotel rrom after an all day meeting. Ugh...I can't wait to go home. Test results will not be in until most likely Wednesday am because of the holiday today. I am not sure what this is, but the initial test they took on Saturday showed no infecttion, which scarres me. They sent iit for a culture anyway just to be sure.

I went to the desk about the wifi and was told that itis free for guests, so glad that changed. Some of our members had to sign in and it gave them a $10.99 a day fee, but supposedly if that happens, they will take it off your bill.

Have a great week!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Burn Sets ch, ba, sh (50:43).

Lori, my in-laws are in great shape too. Fil just turned 90 and he plays 18 holes of golf 3-4 times per week. His goal is always to score his age, but he frequently is in the 80s. He also is a serious gardener. Mil is 87, golfs too and does a little bit of weight work at the local senior center. It's just very heartening to see them thrive. That is some workout combo you did. You're going to love Gone Girl. I think the next must-see film is Birdman with Michael Keaton, dir. Inarritu (not sure of the spelling on that, but he's the one that did 7 Grams and Babylon).

Deb, I hope it's nothing serious and you are not in any serious discomfort. It's always disheartening when they can't figure out what is ailing you.

Wow, Valerie, that is a lot of money for 5 lbs., but if it works, then it's worth it.

Warm and cloudy here today.

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Interestingly, my SIL says there's a movement in CA to rename Columbus "Indigenous Peoples Day" so maybe we will all be hearing more about it. Argh.. we don't have enough REAL issues to be concerned about??
went to yoga this morning. my foot is bothering me more suddenly so I'm looking for a podiatrist to see for some ideas. it gets better as the day goes on but early mornings are getting rough.

I have a $10 rebate on the food. probably better to buy bigger bags. this was a starter bag because I didn't know if he'd eat it. but a bit of a shock when regular dry kitty kibble is so cheap. at least he's better....don't want to repeat this if possible.

Deb hope you get some answers. is this something like a cystitis?

ETA,.... Judy thank you so much for the disk.... I trudged to the PO to pick it up a short time ago. My fault for having our gate shut when mail was delivered. I'm going to try it today as soon as DH gets done in the gym. I hope you will report back on the other HC disks and let us know how hard/effective they are.

Good evening ladies!

Today we walked 3.2 miles and we each had 1lb hand weights. They take their walks very seriously and I just love it!!! Came back and did about 35 minutes of Cathe's Barre while the ladies stretched.

Lynda...the plan was for Gone Girl today but the weather was nicer than anticipated so we felt it was too nice to be inside. We walked the beach and Navarre just rebuilt their pier which was destroyed by hurricane Ivan and it is now the longest pier in Florida. Was a beautiful walk on this pier. We can go to the movies when we come back. So nice to hear about how fit your Inlaws are. Good for them!

Valerie...wow that does seem expensive even with a coupon! You are a wonderful pet owner.

Deb... Oh I hope your are feeling better soon. Nothing like traveling and being sick. I feel for you.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

The food is actually more than 5 lbs... I'm forgetting but an odd number like 6.3 lbs. .... whatever. the vet bill for 2 visits, the procedure (cystocentesis ) labs, some meds came to $400 so the special food isn't a biggie if it avoids future problems. there was a $10 rebate available and bigger bags are less per lb. He's our little guy and otherwise healthy so I'm OK with it. I think it's only available thru veterinarians ... this bag will be several months worth so though it seems like a lot at the time, it won't end up being a big expense.

I did yoga, 25 on the elliptical, and one section of HC yesterday. My left foot has been really bothering me and I will need to see someone about it. the bunion area is sore, the middle of the toe actually, and I think I'm walking a little funny to avoid bending the toe as much. now I've developed probable tendonitis on the outside of the foot. I am just hobbling around. riding is OK. My foot flexes up as the day goes on but I need to get a professional opinion from a foot person. I am dreading it but I am expecting meds are not going to hack it anymore. I've been fussing with this on and off for 20+ years.

Deb, check in. are you OK?

good choice Lori.. I'd want to spend a nice day outside rather than in a theater. save it for a rainy day.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Petra Kolber's Bootcamp Boogie (63:30).

Lori, do you swim in Navarre as well? The weather here feels positively balmy--76 degrees and quite humid. Definitely Indian Summer. The leaves are at their absolute peak right now and everything looks gilded. I love it. I just wish it didn't get dark so early.

Deb, I hope you get a definitive answer today. Take care and let us know how you are feeling.

Valerie, let us know how you like HC and how hard it is.

DH discovered how much his pigs love acorns. Apparently this is a Spanish thing. He noticed that one of his wood customers was having a lawn service gathering up a lot of acorns and asked if he could have them, brought them home, mixed them in with other assorted garbage delicacies, and watched as they dived in and immediately plucked at the acorns.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Hi,

Iam sitting at the airport waiting for the flight. There is a tornado warning right here and they are telling passengeres at the gate to keep away from the windows! Hoe do you do that in an airport?

I have an apt with a urologist tomorrow morning, that is if I get out of here today. Do yu maybe have plantar faciitus (sp?)..?

Lynda, pigs eating acorns? who would have known?

Valerie, it could be something like that, since the test came back negative, no infection.

Lori, nice vacation!

Hi to Judy & Josie,

Take care

Good afternoon ladies!

Today was our walk and while the ladies stretched I did Cathe's live kickbox and barre. Actually only the kickboxing and I plan to finish up with barre this afternoon. We were all going to Waffle House for breakfast. It is a tradition for us since one year while visiting I mentioned I had never been to a waffle house. Now we go every time I visit. It is kind of funny.

Deb...omg!! You poor thing!!! Now a tornado warning. These two trips for you have been awful. Hoping you do make it home for your appt tomorrow.

Lynda...yes we swim and the beaches in Navarre are beautiful. Water is a pretty blue with white sand. We went for a couple of hours today and really enjoyed it. I love the beach but only can stand it for a couple of hours. I hate just laying around in the sun. My DH loves it so we compromise. We go for a couple hours at a time and then we are both happy. Acorns? Who knew! Bootcamp Boogie sounds awesome! Will need to look that one up!

Valerie...when you break it down like that the the price of the food really is not that much. Good to pay the 40 bucks every couple of months then having a large vet bill. Hope your foot calms down. I have a small bunion that acts up every now and then. I have the yoga toes I bought on amazon and they seem to help me a bit. But again my bunion is small and yours sounds like you have been dealing with this for some years. Congrats on the HC!

Have a great afternoon all! Hi to Josie and Judy!

Lori the bunion is not large but I have a bone spur ( or used to) in the joint distal from the bunion itself and that is the most bothersome. the toe is still pretty straight so maybe it's less worrisome.... I've seen some horrible bunions with crooked toes ...it's nothing like that. but it still is sore and if it's making me walk funny, well, that will lead to other issues so time to get an opinion.

I only did a 10 min section of HC. it was familiar moves. I did not get sore nor did I expect to, but she said to repeat it 2-3x. my foot (bent toe in plank position) was actually more of an issue. I will do another section of it today. so far I like Cathe's core workouts better but I want to get a little variety into my ab work. it's kind of nice to see another face/voice for some variety.

Deb, hope you have good luck with Urology and get this sorted out..and that you fly back uneventfully!

Hi Ladies,

I went spinning yesterday and will do the same tomorrow. I ordered Body Beast and had planned on doing that starting last week, but could not because I was taking care of my DB. He had another appointment today and he was feeling quite anxious and wobbly so I could not leave him alone.

Lori, sounds like you are having a great vacation.

Deb, this trip has been terrible for you. Hoping that you have a good flight and get to your appointment on time.

Valerie, I'm so lucky that I never developed a bunion. I wore high heels every day for over 30 years :). I still wear them now but not as often.

Garance, my DH is on his last trip before he retires and is feeling nervous. He always said that he was going to sleep late eat a nice breakfast then play tennis every other day. He also said that we can travel whenever we feel like it. We will see what happens :)

Hi to Judy!
