Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/12

Good morning,

Just waiting to go to the Dr apt. I sure hope he has good news, or something simple. Funny, I took the last to AZO ( OTC UTI med) on the plane around 6:00 pm, and only some ibuprofen last night and have not had symptoms, or very mild ones today. Strange.

Lori, I would love to be like your MIL/FIL when we are older. I think the physical activity is what helps for sure. I have seen Waffle House, mostly on our trip to the show in Columbus we go to but have never tried one.

Valerie, is it the bunion that hurts or the spur? they can remove bone spurs right?

Josie, I really want to order Body Beast, but with the new Cathe's coming, and a new KCM, I feel like I have too many to use already. Is your DH nervous about retiring? is he on the fence like I am? After these last 2 trips, I am really going over the fence to the retirement side! Keeping your DB in my thoughts, hope he feels better soon.

Hi to Judy, and Lynda,

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Monday I did a 75 minute Spinerval then I did Gym Style Chest & Triceps, timesaver premix. Tuesday I did STS Squat Rack Legs, using lighter weight. I did the deadlifts, but was very careful with my form and I didn't have any problems. Yesterday morning I ended up doing HouseMax so no workout but DH wanted us to go to the gym last night. I took the workout card for STS Disc 25, Chest & Back, and did as much of it as I could.
This morning will be cardio and core work.

Deb-I hope you had a good flight home and that your doctor appointment goes very well.

Valerie-I agree on HC, I do like Cathe's core work more, but it's nice to have a change. The next DVD in the HC set has 2-20 minute workouts in it and it looks a little more challenging. I'm not quite ready to try it yet. I want to be able to do 3 of the 10 minute sets a few times before I move up.
The prescription cat food is definitely worth it. When we were feeding Tiger the prescription kidney formula we were able to get a prescription from the vet and purchase it at Petsmart. There wasn't any cost savings, but the vet was out of the food at the time so we had to do it that way. Petsmart carries it but won't sell it without the prescription.

Josie- I hope your brother is doing well.

Hi to Lori & Lynda,

Judy

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Flextrain (56:36).

Wow, Deb, maybe these trips will tip you over into a firm decision to retire. Was there an actual tornado, or just the possibility of one? I hope your doctor's appointment goes well and things settle down again. I read the thread over at the open forum on Body Beast, and I'm not sure I could handle a trainer constantly talking macho stuff about being a beast. It does sound like it was effective for some people, though, so I will be interested in Josie's reaction.

Lori, DH would make waffles every now and then, but I tend to resist waffles and pancakes for breakfast. Too heavy. Lately I have been having smoothies every morning. Yum! I don't mind sitting on the beach if I have an umbrella and a good book to read--and lots of sunscreen. You are missing some pretty heavy rain here today. It feels tropical--very humid. Bootcamp Boogie is one I did for a long time, put away, and just brought out again. It's fun, and there are 45 second intervals with three different levels of intensity to choose from. There are also several shorter premixes.

Josie, that sounds like a lovely retirement plan for your DH. Tell us what you think of Body Beast. I hope your brother is feeling better soon.

Valerie, I have a small bunion on my left foot, but it doesn't seem to bother me if I am wearing the right shoes. I can see where a plank position might be painful. I wonder if you can buy that food at Amazon. They seem to sell everything. Thanks for the review of HC. Doesn't sound like I need it.

Judy, you remind me of Cathes I haven't done in a while. Is it the Gym Styles where she has that big hairpiece? And the Greco-Roman statuary?

I did 35 on the elliptical and Core 2 yesterday, today was yoga and a 25 mile street ride. we had a lovely day warm and sunny..really... 70 degrees!
My foot bothered me a lot early today but settled down by the time yoga was over. I'm gathering recommendations from local people who've had food surgeries. I don't know if a bone spur is the problem. I need imaging to see what the exact problem is, and then will decide what is necessary. I am hoping for not a major big deal. I have a HUGE family hx of bunion issues. everyone has them, and I mean huge monstrous ones. some people had them on both sides of their feet. my mother's feet look like hooves....don't even look human. No one ever had any surgical corrections. I always was careful with minimal time wearing heels. I always wore flat shoes and wore heels for a few minutes with customers, and changed back to flats. think it is just unlucky foot structure.

yes, ti was gym styles with the "fall" I think we called them. not the best look! but I love the GS workouts.
Yes, that is the deal with the food rx only but this vet is close by and there is aPetsmart not far either so should be easy.

Good morning,

I went to the Urologist yesterday, he did an exam, took a sample by catheter, and I am having a CT scan Monday. It is still bothering me, the only thing that seems to help is Ibuprofen.

Judy, that's great that you can do your workouts at the gym so your DH can get one in too.

Lynda, there was no actual tornado that I am aware of, however the winds were really high, the pilot told us that he did not want the flight attendants up so they were going to stay in their seats as well with seatbelts fastened, He told us we would be on our honor to not have any large item out, like a laptop, and to stay in our seats. This was the whole trip, horrible turbulence, I was getting really nervous. I like the style of the lifting that they are doing in Body Beast. What kind of smoothies do you make?

Valerie, the cost of the food is the least of it, if that works, you are making out well. Glad Puss is better.

Hi to Josie, & Lori,

Work, then depending on how I feel, I may go to class or not.

Can't wait for this day to be over.

Take care,

Good evening ladies!

No early walk with the ladies yesterday as my DH and I ventured off early to go to the beach and look for seashells. Was a beautiful morning and we really enjoyed our search for shells. I ended up doing Cathe's Live Butts and Gutts and walked 3 miles later in the day. Another one I loved. She really shines in these weekly workouts. My inlaws have a few dumbbells (not as heavy as I am used to) and I was able to work with what I had so it made a great workout.

We walked this morning and will be planning a beach day. We leave tomorrow so we want to soak up this beautiful weather as much as possible. Lynda...we do not want to come home!

Deb...hope you find out what is going on and then start the proper treatments.

Valerie...that stinks with your foot. Hoping this quickly calms down for you.

Lynda...I need to look at gym styles. Never notice the hairpiece!!!

Judy...great idea to bring the work sheets with you to the gym and just follow along.

Josie...I most likely going to give the Body Beast back to my brother. Like Deb...between all my existing workouts, the streaming and then Cath's new ones I will never get to body beast. Everyone seems to love them and are getting great results so I can't wait to hear your opinion!

Have a great day all!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did All-Out Low Impact Hiit with Core 1 (49:22).

Deb, if the ibuprofen works for you, it must be some kind of inflammation. I hope you get some answers soon. My smoothies begin with Dannon's Light and Fit Greek yogurt. It comes in a 4 pack and it's only 80 calories for one. I like raspberry, blueberry, and peach flavors. During the summer I was buying whatever berries were in season, throwing in a bunch, a whole peach sliced and peeled, and some 2% milk from a local dairy. Blend it, and it tastes like a milkshake and very filling. Now, I have been buying bags of frozen berries, peaches, mixed fruit and throwing in some strawberries, which seem to be still pretty good and am still very much enjoying my breakfast. Welch's makes an anti-oxidant frozen bag of fruit, and there's always frozen peaches, blueberries, and some mango-melon mixes. I use 2% milk, because I have read a little bit of fat is a good way to get the metabolism going in the morning. I figure this is a pretty low-cal breakfast and I find it very filling. The one fruit I don't like is bananas--I have always detested their slimy texture--but a lot of people put them in smoothies for thickening.

Lori, I love finding seashells. I have a ton of them from the Jersey Shore. Some Cape May "diamonds" too. I always felt like I found a treasure if I found a conch shell or a sand dollar. I have a small shark jaw too, which my sons were particularly eager to take to school for show and tell.

Valerie, I hope you can get some help for your foot. I thought those falls looked a bit strange and the statuary reminded me of Firm videos. Of course, if I go back to some of my early videos, there's the skimpy leotard over tights, scrunchies, big hair, and legwarmers--also pretty weird looking now.

I may try to see The Judge this weekend.

Hi to Judy and Josie.

Good morning & Happy Weekend!

Well I did it! I told my manager and my staff today that I am retiring as of March 1, 2015. Any vacation I have left will be used before that date, so if I have 2 weeks left, I will really be done with work in mid-February.
It's like I must have dreamt it or something. It doesn't seem real.

Josie, Lynda, was it like this for you too?

Lori, your vacation sounds like it was a great time, too bad you have to come back right? Who was taking care of the pups while you were gone?

Lynda, let us know how you like The Judge. I may be able to get John to go to see that, since he likes that actor, ( can't think of his name right now, he was in Fargo I believe?).

Hi to Valerie, and Judy,

No commitments this weekend, just doing stuff around here, making dog food etc.

Anyone have any plans for the weekend?

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday we walked just over 3 miles and then I continued on with Cathe Live cardio band blast. Just came back from our walk this morning and have not decided what the workout will be. Suzanne Bowen has a 6 week challenge starting on Monday that I may participate in so I actually stayed away from a ton of Barre this week. People seem to love her challenges so I am looking forward to it.

Deb!!!!! Congrats on taking that first step and making the announcement! I am so happy for you. Well Judy it looks like it will be just you and I slaving for a few more years!!!

Lynda...we really enjoyed looking for shells and found some nice ones. Funny about the shark jaw. Your smoothie recipe sounds yummy. I either buy frozen fruits or feeze fresh. I am one that does like a few chunks of bananas in my smoothie. I freeze these too. I slice them in chunks then put in a feezer bag and take out a chunk when needed. I found I was always throwing out my bananas because I never used them quick enough - problem solved.

We fly home today. Flight is at 4:20 connecting thru Reagan National in DC. We land in Manchester at 9:55pm then have an hour drive. We'll sleep good tonight. I will feel like we will lose an hour sleep though because I have already adjusted to central time being here even for a short time. But good to know I will get it back in a bit when we all adjust our clocks.

Have a great day all!

Good Morning,

Thursday I did a Spinerval in the morning then went to the gym with DH in the evening. I took the workout sheet for STS Shoulders, Biceps, and Triceps with me. I probably did a little over half of it. Yesterday I did Cathe Live "Butts and Guts". That was such a fun workout! I think I will do this one regularly.

Deb-Congratulations! I'm so happy for you!

Lori-DH and I were just talking about retirement plans last night. I think we will be working for at least 10 more years.
I agree about Cathe Live-she really does shine in those. I saw Suzanne Bowen's challenge and might try it. I'll look at it this weekend.

Lynda-your yogurt smoothie sounds really good! I think I will try making one too.

Hi to Valerie & Josie! Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Judy

Hi Ladies,

Not much planned for the weekend. I might take my brother to the local farmers market for a bite later.

Deb, congratulations! You will not be sorry, you will love being retired. My DH's last day is December 4th. He is a little nervous just like you but he will be ok. I felt the same way.

Lori, you did great on your workouts during your vacation. I can't wait to get back to my routine. I will be taking my DB back to Palm Springs on the 22nd.
My mom and dad will be staying with him.

Judy, I'm so glad that you and your DH are working out together. I plan on introducing my DH to body beast and might buy Les Mills Body Pump for him. I got an e-mail from beachbody offering the set for 40% discount.

Hi to Lynda and Valerie!

Josie

I showed the GS workouts to my niece once..she was visiting and I was doing a workout with her and the hairpiece was the first thing she noticed. I knew it didn't look "naturall" but I was focused on the workout...... hair's funny, so what? strange how things like that can distract you and leave it a "go to" workout for one person, and a distraction and a laughing matter for another. but then Lynda you mention leotards and leg warmers.... the leg warmers were like the hairpiece to me. I just could not do workouts where people wore those silly things!
also Lynda, I believe we will be able to watch Morning Joe. it's available on Hulu plus, both the full length and condensed 45 min version. we were visiting with a cousin last night and he mentioned it MJ and I jumped on him to show us how to access. there is so much stuff available for streaming that we have not looked at every possibility.
I didn't do anything yesterday. we did some plant shopping and I limped around all day. it's getting better but need to be careful. would really like to know what I did to cause this. after I walk around it loosens up but if I sit for a while, it's difficult to get it moving again. I see someone Tuesday morning.

wow deb, that is a decision!. congratulations! was the final blow these last two difficult trips? Hope the bladder thing settles down.

I went thru a smoothie period. found that drinking but not chewing left me feeling hungry, like I hadn't eaten anything even though I'd drained the glass. I felt like I needed to chew something..... defeated the point of keeping calories down. went back to cereal/ fruit. it's almost oatmeal time now. the cold smoothie didn't work well in winter for me, and I have not gotten interested in putting vegetables like kale in one.
bananas .. OK when firm but not edible when squishy. I need fruit on cereal and bananas right now are the only decent choice. I get sick of them quickly though and will move back to raspberries soon.

Did 25 on the elliptical, then core 2, and 80 knee push ups. foot is getting better but it still does not want to bend happily so we will likely ride tomorrow.
