Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/09/2022

I simply can't imagine driving to place and stand in line, sometimes a very long one, to vote. I've done it by mail for 30 and 40 years now. I was constantly traveling for business then. trips came up quickly and mail voting was so simple. Sorry to get repetitious here because I know I've said this before. every election I wonder why all states don't do it this way. unfortunately, it's clearer every year some states WANT it to be inconvenient. they want to discourage voting by people they purposely want to cut out of the process. cathy, we can easily check an online site for votes received and then counted. we are an all-mail voting state for a long time now. we should make it easier for everyone to vote, not make it harder.

smoky air is back so indoor workout again today..

Today I did P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and the Extended Stretch. My time was 45 minutes with 185 calories burned. Average heart rate was 115 and maximum heart rate was 141. I went to the store after my workout, but the produce department was in bad shape and poorly stocked. Part of the problem seems to be lack of staff, but it’s very frustrating when things are not available.

Judy, nice job doing chest and back workout at the gym and MMA Kickboxing. That’s one of the few Cathe workouts that I don’t have. It never seemed like something that I would like. I’m glad that you enjoyed it.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Low Impact Walking workout and Core Mobility. I’m glad that the Ladies gathering was fun.

Valerie, you are doing great job the therapy exercises. I think that everyone has different things that they want with cable and streaming. Having options is good.

Cathy, nice job with Dynamic Total Body.

Hello to Lori.

Today I did Coffey Fit Raw 10 minute Total Body suggested for a quick workout, finisher , or warm up. I think it is actually 15 minutes, but it took me 19 minutes as I wrote the moves down. heart rate was 99/126, 62 calories. I then did Raw Box and Pump 7 heart rate 108/146, 33 minutes, 119 calories. I finished with Raw stretch finisher and CDorner latest neck and back mobility stretch, 32 minutes, heart rate 70/94, 35 calories. Total Time was 83 minutes, 216 calories, 1,689 steps.
I am not sure that I liked the 10 minute total body. I felt some of the moves were not safe for my shoulders. I am tired. No sleep again and woke multiple times.

did 30 on the elliptical, up to level 9 now although its an old machine and isn't as tight as new ones. then therapy exercises. I somehow hurt a shoulder a week or so ago. no particular event it just started hurting in some positions. its getting better but I'm avoiding weight workouts until better. I did some very odd maneuvering inside our camper in a tiny space to fix a water leak. we ended up having to cut the floor but its all patched up and ready to go again. I didn't notice anything but maybe I injured something without realizing it. we are stuck with smoke for the weekend, going to ride this morning but not a long one, just 15 miles. that will be it on road rides.

diane sue sometimes your body gets in a habit that reinforces itself. you almost EXPECT to wake up so you do. Benadryl? Advil PM ? Ambien is prescription. there are many others. I don't use often. if I get stuck in a pattern of waking up and then not going back to sleep, it helps. I will take a half a pill if its 2 am and I cant sleep. not getting decent rest builds up and wears you down. I can't nap during the day so if I don't sleep at night, I'm done. natural sleep is best of course. ambien is for occasional use but it might break the pattern. just a thought. I prefer non medical measures but if they dont work, maybe your doc can recommend something.

This morning I did P30 Low Impact HiiT which was 31 minutes and 211 calories burned. My average heart rate was 134 and maximum heart rate was 155. This morning I read that Kroger is buying Albertsons. That will be one huge supermarket chain. These mega deals are rarely beneficial to consumers.

Diane Sue, great job with Raw 10 Minute Total Body, Raw Box and Pump and CDorner neck and back mobility stretch. I’m sorry that you are having sleep problems. It’s hard to function without enough sleep.

Valerie, nice job with elliptical. I hope the shoulder is better soon.

Hello to Judy, Cathy, and Lori. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today I did CDorner Low Impact or High Impact mash up, 42 minutes, 218 calories, heart rate 128/163, 3,975 steps. I also did CDorner Easy Back stretch from 7 months ago, (lower back refresh) 17 minutes, 82/102 heart rate, 24 calories and her Neck and Upper Back Stretch from 7 months ago, 19 minutes, 31 calories, heart rate 78/90. This last one is one I just get tired of the conversation about the dream and pink tennis shoes. She says that back one she did 3 times a day when she hurt her back. I was hurting around my ribs all night. I had a feeling my workout choice yesterday was not good.

Carolyn, I keep having things that I do not get because the store is out of stock. I couldn't get blueberries yesterday. So, I got my plain yogurt, but no berries to put on it. I am searching for cooked Jello lemon pudding mix. My husband's favorite pie for Thanksgiving is lemon. He does not like it so much when I make from scratch. I may have too though. Last year that happened, and I found some that was overpriced on Amazon and had to order a pack of several boxes. They were kind of beat up, but the packet was in tact. Nice job on P30 Low Impact. Homeland took over Albertsons here quite some time ago. I did hear something on the radio when my husband and I were out earlier today. Those big businesses have the upper hand on pricing etc. Makes it hard for smaller businesses.

Valerie, I know my sleep patterns are messed up. So many changes in my hours with my husband working nights and appointments and things. I keep waking up off and on and cannot always sleep through my husband coming in. After he gets the lights all out and goes to bed I often end up in the recliner and hopefully falling back to sleep. I take magnesium before bed. I cannot take Benadyl. It leaves me groggy the whole next day. I keep trying to get my hours set to going to bed earlier. When I come into the living room at 7 in the morning it gets bright in here even with the blinds closed. I need it to be dark. I only try natural supplements to help with sleep. Hopefully I can get it worked out. I had 7 hours of sleep last night total after waking a few times. I had pain though and kept trying to get in a comfortable position. Lying on my back helps my neck, but my rib and sternum area pain does not take well to it.

Yesterday I did Love Me Some Cardio Kickboxing. Today I did Arms, Legs, Core and More for the first time. That is one good workout if you like variety. 5-15 lb weights, green boss loop, stability ball and high step with 3 risers. Lots of equipment changes and switching areas of the body.

Valerie our SOS has made voting easier in the last few years, but she can only do so much. We have a ballot proposal that will make things even easier to vote on in November. My sleep issues are mostly self sabotage with my pre sleep routine. I've tried taking various things to help me sleep but they do weird unhelpful things to my sleep pattern, so I've pretty much given up on them. Nice job with the elliptical, sounds like you strained a shoulder muscle. Hopefully it heals soon. Hope your ride this morning went well.

Carolyn great job with P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and the Extended Stretch and P30 Low Impact HiiT. And you're right customers never benefit from those mega mergers.

Diane Sue nice job with Fit Raw 10 minute Total Body, Raw Box and Pump 7, Low Impact or High Impact mash up, and the stretching. It's hard enough to get good sleep, but when others activities interrupt is make things so much tougher.

smoky air is worse today so again no ride. indoor elliptical or spin bike. this is getting old.
Carolyn yes the grocery store buy out is a big deal here too. it almost creates a monopoly here, mainly WA and California. will wait to see how this shakes out. Albertsons already has Safeway and Kroger has QFC, Fred Meyer, some other chains. if Kroger has them all, we will not have a competitive marketplace. I wish there was whole foods, sprouts, or central market nearby but no. it's never good if one chain owns everything.

we are planning on driving to MT tomorrow. would someone else please start the thread tomorrow?

we were expecting the north park entrance to open monday but it's been delayed. plenty of things outside the park to do, but its getting up against hunting season and that makes the park a better option. it still still be slow driving since roads are patched but not all back to what was.

diane sue I tried supplements for sleep but noticed nothing. I feel so crummy if I cant sleep! we go to bed early and get up early. if I stay up later than usual I cant sleep later to compensate. Ambien works well for me. I use a half a dose. I know ahead of time that when we drive for 11 hours straight, I will have trouble sleeping so I have it ready. If I need it, its handy. if I don't, I don't use it. I can get into good sleep patterns as easily as bad ones. DH and I sleep in separate rooms. not hostile, but we both sleep better that way. he wants the head of the bed elevated for reflux prevention, and I cant sleep in that position. we both get up to pee at different times. too many interruptions for anyone to get good sleep. whatever works!

This is a rest day for me. I went to the markets to get my fresh produce. I love shopping for local produce and talking with the farmers who grow the food. Sweet potatoes, gold potatoes, winter squash, leafy greens, they are all so much better when I can get them from the market. Krogers bought Harris Teeter in North Carolina a few years ago and my daughter hates the way that the store has changed. Harris Teeter was a nice locally owned store with a great butcher and meat section before the purchase. Now it’s just another Kroger location.

Diane Sue, great job with the CDORNER cardio and stretch. It sounds like she has a large variety of workouts to choose from.

Cathy, great job with Love Me Some Cardio Kickboxing and Arms, Legs, Core and More.

Valerie, I’m sorry that you have another day of bad air quality. It good that you have indoor options, but I know that’s not your preference.

Hello to Judy and Lori.

Thursday I did a 30 minute Peloton ride. Yesterday I did a 45 minute Peloton ride, then 20 minutes of Peloton strength and 10 minutes of Peloton core work. Tonight we are going to the gym and I'll probably do mostly upper body work.

Carolyn- Great job with P30 Low Impact HiiT and I hope you had a nice rest day today.

Diane Sue-Nice job with the Raw workouts and the CDorner Cardio and Stretch workouts. I previewed the 10 min Raw strength and it didn't look like one that would be good for me either.

Cathy-Great job with Love Me Some Cardio Kickboxing, and Arms, Legs, Core and More.

Valerie-I'm sorry about the air quality issues. I hope you have a good trip tomorrow.

Today I did CDorner Step Workout #242, 62 minutes, heart rate 113/161, 250 calories. I then did CDorner Do Anywhere Gorgeous toned arms 27 minutes, 65 calories, heart rate 87/118. This was done with loop bands and Chris used her extra heavy bands. I used the Cathe Heavy and Extra Heavy band. I liked it. It was not an easy workout. She works back with rows and arms also 1 set of slow count pushups. I finished with CDorner Beach wake Up morning stretch, 11 minutes, 15 calories.
Total time was1hour 40 minutes, 330 calories.
I slept better last night, but woke to our lawn guy mowing. I had asked him to do it every other week till the month was over so it was unexpected. Temps are getting in the 50's and dropping some to the 40's and the grass is going dormant so I told him this would be the last mowing till next season.

Cathy, nice work with Love Me Some Kickboxing and Arms Legs and More. My problem is space to have multiple pieces of equipment set up. It depends on what it is, but the stuff and the dog all get in the way.

Valerie, sorry it is too smokey to go out for a ride. We have a lot of choices for groceries here. If I wanted to to Sprouts it is 13 miles. Not far, but not like around the corner like where I lived before. Aldis is in quite a few areas, only the one Whole Foods in Oklahoma City. I am glad that I am just inside the edge of the city so I can get delivery. Lots of Walmart. There was another grocery store coming in, but I cannot remember which one. The city next to us has a Cash saver grocery, but I went once and will not go again. It is basically Homeland broken and left-over stock. Veggies and fruits were half rotten. One of the smaller cities we lived in got a Williams grocery. It is a regular supermarket. I was happy as if I needed something the closest store was Dollar General. Otherwise, it was a bit of a drive. The issue there was that the City made deals to get it in and they have a 1 cent higher sales tax than everyone else.
I get the sleeping issues. We have different sleeping times. When I get up and he has came home, I keep the lights off and try not to look around much. That way I can usually fall back to sleep. I think Relaxium Sleep is sort of a Timed-Release sleep supplement. There was another I tried that worked, but I usually cut them in half and I don't know if that messed with the timed release or not. I did not want to take 10 mg of melatonin. It had other stuff in it as well. I think it was Natures Bounty. Those that have anti-histamines in them make my dry mouth so much worse. Same with dextromethorphan cough meds. They make me drowsy and dry mouthed. That is another issue I have with sleeping. It wakes me up when I feel dry all the way down my throat. I put gum in my mouth at night. For some reason it helps better than dry mouth drops and rinses.

Carolyn, I picked up a catalogue of places with fresh produce around here. Some say to call? I told my husband that if I could remember the company, there is one that you can go online and order local meat, fruits and vegetables etc from different farmers and they put it all together and deliver. You have to sign up for it and schedule delivery times. I think it might be a Kroger that I heard on the radio that is coming to Oklahoma City. I have never seen one before. Whole Foods has some Oklahoma local stuff. I get Scissortail kale and salad mixes from there.

Judy, mice workouts with the Peloton rides and strength and core. I don't think my shoulders could have taken those dumbbell tosses on the short Total Body workout. I remember having an instructor do that on an old workout that I had and told my grandchildren who were watching not to try that. Reminds me when I was 5 and threw a large rock in the air to watch it come down and it hit me in the head. Sometimes I wonder what kids are thinking.

I did 30 on the spin bike seated. first time on it since the accident so just rode it hard seated. then x train abs #1. then the therapy exercises. ends up taking 45 min to do them all. I didn't do all the sets/ reps at first to avoid getting sore, but I am up to all of them now. I go back in a couple weeks and get them updated. some don't feel hard enough. some feel like too many reps of the same basic movement.

I sometimes get dry mouth issues from wearing a nightguard. depends a little on what sleeping position I'm in. I get Biotene flavor free gel and spread a little on the night guard and it helps. theres also a mouth rinse and a spray. any anti histamines are so drying. I only use them if I have a bad head cold

I wish we had better grocery choices but I dont want to drive 30 miles for it. we have a small northwest based chain that has very good produce and thats the main thing I look for. nobody seems to have everything. I use costco a lot. I don't like Walmart's politics so never spend money there.
