Cathlete
Good morning,

Today I did Burn Sets, Chest Back & Shoulders. I like this one a lot! Of course because it is weights, and that is always my preference for workouts.

I wish we had workout sheets for these, because I find that I am using too light weights, and would want to up them for the next time. I need to make up some, or see if anyone on the boards has done this.

Joan, welcome back.

Garance, I am going to program Downton for 3 hours...that should get it all! ;)

Lori, have fun with XTrain today!

Valerie, how will you use the booklet instead of a printed worksheet? I need to write down stuff, and then show what I need to use the next time on the sheet...

Off to get more HouseMax done....going to my brother's for dinner so the day is cut short..

I think the booklet will work for workouts where there aren't a lot of weight choices, like supercuts. seemed like 5's or 8's so not a lot to record. I will do it with 5's until I get all the moves better, and then switch up. not likely to even use 10's since it's fast with lots of reps.

I like work sheets for weight workouts where weight choices vary a bit. it will mess up the booklet with a lot of notes, add-ons, erasures. I haven't seen anyone who's done worksheets yet. I don't have software to do anything other than a list.

Yesterday we split wood. I (we) did a whole tree!. not a small tree either. it's lots of work mostly upper body. we were going to ski this morning but drove to the mts and it was raining. snow level supposedly "low" but not where we were. the road we wanted to use was in bad shape, with lots of slid out sections, trees leaning way low over the road. then a big tree, too big for us to cut, across the road. it wasn't nice enough to look for another spot. we used to ski a lot but it's getting harder to find decent places and seems increasingly like too many failed attempts.

Lots about Downton Abbey in the paper today, glad it's getting so much attention. maybe it will continue for more seasons?

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I started my 90-day undulating rotation with Ch, Ba, Sh (51 min.). Worksheets would definitely be helpful on this one. On the ball I cannot do 20 lb. dumbbells for the chest press. Too unsteady on the ball for this heavy a weight I discovered today, although I did manage all 16 reps. I am writing down my weights, though, to see if I can gradually do heavier.

Housemax and snowshoeing yesterday. Snowshoeing was absolutely beautiful because it was not too cold, no wind, and the snow was deep but not crunchy. Not sure yet whether I will go see Anna Karenina this afternoon. It sounds very stylized (most of the action is on a stage to symbolize how public these lives are conceived, how oriented toward image--as if it's life continuously on the red carpet), I know how it ends (she throws herself under a train), and it leaves out the other plot line in the novel. I read the recent translation and was struck by how much my attitude toward the heroine had changed. She just seems to throw herself under the train on an impulse--not a calculated suicide at all. I think the earlier translation was more romantic. I loved Tolstoy and Dostoevsky soooo much when I was younger, but I don't think if I read Brothers Karamazov or War and Peace again I would feel as enamored.

Deb, Downton Abbey is scheduled for 9-11 here. I can't imagine they would be doing fundraising on the season premiere, but I guess better safe than sorry.

Hi all!! Started xtrain 90 day undulating today. Garance, I was the same way with the weights on the ball. I used 15lbs and this was the first time I used a ball for upper body so it will take some getting used to. I really liked this workout and can't wait to do it again! As it turns out I will not need to swap workouts tomorrow so it will be cardio leg blast after all.

Have a good night ladies!

today I did disk 1 and am not sure.. is this is the same one you both did? I decided not to overthink this and stuck the first disk in. it took me a long time, some unfamiliar moves. I was in no rush. lots of subtle differences that made it harder, the ball being the big one.
I can't use much weight on side raises and there were quite a few. so 5 lbs... here I come. I can use 8 but not for that many reps. rather go lighter and not cause problems. I used 20 on some presses but not all. I did most of the pushups and even did the reach and touch business pretty well, which has always been hard for me. the arm circle one I went to 4 lbs! mostly I guessed. I agree... the instability of the stability ball makes it wise to reduce weight.
I agree, a work sheet is needed for this one and any similar workouts. a wide range of varying weights needed...no way to remember them all to progress. I wrote in the book but I know how messy it can get over time.

Yea I finished chest, back and shoulders by midnight so I did get it in for Sunday. I found out that my ball needed more air and I couldn't find pump. I used the bench for most of the exercises except when you were face down on ball. I also did a little bit of the core wo but back was bothering me so I stopped. I copied the three pages from my booklet to make a 3 page workout card. I am pretty happy with the weights I chose. A couple I had to go lower than what I started with and a couple I should have because I couldn't do all the reps.

It looks like a lot of jumping in the Monday disc.

Good morning,

Today I did Cardio Leg Blast, pre-mix 1-6. I don't think I am ready for the whole workout, whew, even with modifying some of the exercises, I was winded. I kind of liked it, but will reserve judgement until I see the other half where the step is used.

Valerie, yes, I think cutting down a tree, and chopping wood should be considered an upper body workout! LOL. I believe Downton Abbey is good to go with season 4. Agree on the worksheet issue, no way I could write down everything, and I know I could have gone heavier on some exercises..

Garance, they had a special on from 8-9 on the castle used in filiming DA. My brother called me to let me know around 8:15. I caught a little of it...kind of interesting. Hope my tape got the whole DA episode. I am thinking of buying the DVD anyway....it has lots of extra stuff on it, and then I don't feel pressured to tape etc.

Joan, Welcome Back! If Cardio leg Blast is the one for you for today, yes, some jumping. I only did the first 6 blasts, and it was ok to modify.

A short week for me ( YAY!) I took Thursday and Friday as vaction days, can't wait!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Cardio Leg Blast (56 min.). I modify this one to eliminate as much impact as possible, and I still feel like it's a "blast." I also vary my step height--8 inches for step ups and forward lunges, 6 inches for jumping, and on the final interval flying back and forth, I go all the way down to the platform. I use Cathe's weights on this one without a problem. Tomorrow is Hard Strikes, and I think I will just do the whole thing with conditioning.

Anna Karenina just didn't do it for me. Ga-ga costume drama, melodramatic LOVE! I'm also not a big fan of Keira Knightly. I didn't like her as the crazy masochist in the Freud-Jung film last year and feel like she should try something lighter than all of these over the top roles.

Deb, I loved Downton Abbey last night. Lots of plot threads to follow and it felt like a pleasant antidote to Anna Karenina.

Valerie, that circle exercise is a real killer on 5's.

Hi to Josie, Joan and Lori!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Valerie and Garance! Did I miss anyone?? :)

Well I made it thru Cardio Leg Blast and liked it. I love plyo legs so I knew I would like this workout as well. The only modification I needed to do was jumping on the step. I went with 2 rises instead of using 3. All the other moves/weights I was able to do using 3 rises.

I am impressed with you ladies using 4 and 5lbs for the circles! I am feeling rather whimpy because I used only 3lbs and felt that was plenty for me! I really need to work on this. I pretty much kept up with Cathe's weights (or very close to) but these circles are tough on me. You girls motivate me!!!!

Tomorrow with Hardstrikes I am also planning to do some conditiong with it. I'll use 1lb weighted hand gloves throughout the cardio. Bought them years ago and I love them. They are a heavy dense material which is great. I have some that have sand in them and the sand tends to move all to one side which drives me nuts.

Have a great afternoon!

Lori

I just noticed I have gone from a "Member" to a "Catheite"!!! :) Silly the things that make me smile!

Hi Ladies,

I will be doing the Insanity program. It is a 60 day rotation and will be modifying it a bit where it calls for high jumps. I did the fit test this morning and did fairly well. Here are my workouts for the rest of the week:

T-Plyo-cardio circuit at 5AM/Sculpt class in the evening
W-Cardio power and resistance at 5AM
Th-Cardio recovery at 5AM/Sculpt class in the evening
F-Pure Cardio at 5AM
Sa-Plyo-cardio circuit in the morning but not 5AM ;)
S- Sculpt class at 10AM plus a gentle yoga class to follow I get to sleep late today.

I will also try to eat better.

Josie

Josie I'm jealous. I can't use any bike because it hurts my knees.

I think this might be the first time we have all been involved in a rotation at the same time.

Just finished leg blast. I did it all but ran in place instead of a lot of the jumping. I also stepped up instead of jumping but tried to do a lot more step ups. I didn't go as heavy as Cathe but should have.

Good Morning,

Terrible night's sleep, got to sleep around 12:30, dogs got up at 3:30...and I could not get back to sleep. It's going to be a long day.

Garance, I plan on watching DA tonight if I can stay awake!

Lori, Congratulations on becoming a "Cathlete" although whoever changed your status spelled it incorrectly LOL! Good job on the workout. I didn't do the half with the step so I don't know how I will handle.

Josie, will try to get your DVD out tomorrow.

Joan, good way to modify that jumping..

ALL: A friend found this on the forums, for those that want workout sheets for the new series"

Take care,

Deb, thank you for finding those worksheets. they are lovely. good luck on getting thru the day on 3 hours of sleep.

I posted soemthing yesterday afternoon that never showed up and then had access problems? anyone otice problems here yesterday? maybe it was on my end.

I did the leg disk yesterday, the standard 51 minutes. it's got other opions but I did the straight program. this one is not bad.... smaller moves, no heavy weights. a variation on pizza presses that I didn't try... using a 5 lb dumbbell held behind your knee. I did all of them without weight to be sure I wouldn't get too sore. I'm not even slightly sore, so next time will do with weights. it was hard to hang on to, I did enough to realize that. more later.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Hard Strikes (46 min.). I did the conditioning as well as the kickbox. I modify a lot of the jumping jacks to half-jacks from side to side. I also use 1 lb. gloves.

Deb, thanks for the link to the worksheets. This is better than copying pages from the book. I looked at Cathe's weights for bis and tris. No way I'm doing 20s for biceps curls or a 35 lb. dumbbell for overhead triceps extensions. Hope you can stay awake for DA.

Josie, Insanity looks very full of impact. I envy your ability to do all of that jumping. Have fun with your new bike!

Valerie, I think I will be doing one of the shorter premixes on legs--probably 6 because I like barre.

Joan, I do a lot of modifying on Leg Blast, too, and feel like I still get my heartrate up there.

Hi to Lori, now a catheite. I think it's how many posts you have.

Good evening ladies! I posted earlier today but do not see it. Very strange.

Today was Hardstrikes which I really like I just wish the cardio was a bit longer. I love Hardstrikes but 34 mins is not enough for me. Doing the power drills at the end really wrap it up for me. Thinking on getting a punching bag. My son really wants one so if I buy it and do not like it at least it will not be a waste of money!

I think I may swap the next two days. The leg workout in the rotation is 80 mins long. Tomorrow I do not need to leave the house until 9:30 so this will work well for me.

Deb thanks for the link. I just printed them all out. This will make things easier!!

Lori, I've had issues too with posting. there is some problem with MSN/outlook express. my email has been down all day. not sure if there's a connection or not but I posted something here that disappeared too.

I went to yoga this morning, and did cardio supersets this afternoon. it's very windy- stormy out and I'm thinking power will go this evening. don't need that but we'll see what happens.

Puss got his staples out today. it's less traumatic than I expected. a little scissors crimps them into a "w" shape and a little tugging got them out. not that I'd like to go thru the process myself!! he has to keep the collar until thursday... when I will, with great relief, remove it. it's like a megaphone on his neck. when he scratches, it makes a tremendous racket, and the cone am0plifies the noise!. he scrapes it along the walls, gets caught in doorways etc. cats are usually so quiet and it's like having a big dog banging around. he hasn't done anything too dumb but clearly wants it GONE.

Good morning,

I just finished Burn Sets Bi's & Tri's + Core. I have a really hard time with the tubing and how Cathe positions it to use for overhead presses. I have the lightest tubing and still cannot raise it over my head...what's up with that?

The worksheets are great! So glad we had an industrious Cathlete on here that shared them.

Valerie, I had problems with the site that time too...could not sign on. If holding the DB behind your knee isn't comfortable, you can use an ankle weight instead? Poor Puss....glad he gets out of the collar tomorrow..what a relief.

Garance, I watched half of DA last night...really good.

Lori, no way would I do an 80 minute workout, even if I had all day to do it! LOL That's what premixes are for...;)

Hopefully all goes well today at work, and I can look forward to a 4 day weekend!

Take care,

I had Josh concentrate on bis and tris yesterday. We did some heavy chest/shoulder work also because I never go as heavy at home. I also started to do premix 16 but didn't finish it. Today my ankles are hurting. Ever since I had stress fractures in both ankles I have had to be careful. I won't be doing that disc again. When it gets bad I can't even use the treadmill so I don't want to get the ankles flared up again.

I get a little annoyed because I can't keep calories closer to 1200 but since Josh wants me to eat more I guess my 1500 calories is ok. He actually suggested more. But in the last two weeks my calories USED has ranged from 1648-2092. They averaged 1834. Unfortunately that only gives me a 334 calories deficit per day. Maybe I will lose a pound every 11 days.

Joan
