Good morning,

The play was good, ( End of the Rainbow). it was about the last year of Judy Garland's life. It was sad. The actress that played Judy Garland was fantastic, singing, mannerisms, she had it all down.

Valerie, love the name of the carpet....pretty much on the mark. Great job on TTM and your PT exercises. I never tried anchoring my feet against something for those side planks...I will have to see what I can use. No wall available, as all wall space is taken up with equipment....maybe the base of my treadmill. It's the kind that fold up. Thanks for the hot tub tip...I will relay to my niece.

Lynda, the link didn't work....:(. It goes to Vogue, but not sure what pattern. Do you think season 4 of A Place to Call Home will be out soon on Acorn? Lots of cliffhangers. I may have to do some Googling research on that.

Hi to Judy, Lori, & Josie,

I plan to start a rotation of the ICE muscle meltdown premixes today, looking forward to it, as I have heard nothing but good things about them. I will have to modify the blasts a lot I guess, but I have never previewed them so not sure. If they are too much, I can always sub the treadmill...

Stay warm!

Hi Ladies,

Went to Zumba and Bodypump yesterday and might go spinning later. I'm glad that the storm missed all of you. We are having someone come in to give us an estimate on remodeling our bathroom on Wednesday. It seems that all of usage doing repairs:)

Valerie, when we moved to our house the master bedroom had dusty rose drapes and carpet and the bathroom was pink. The toilet and the sink were a peptobismol pink. We repainted everything and re carpeted the whole house before we moved.

Deb, sounds like a good play.

Lori, can't wait to see pictures of your kitchen when it's finished. Have you watched Mr.Robot? It's a great show on the USA channel. You can watch the whole season on Demand now. Season 2 starts next month.

Garance, I'm so jealous that you can knit. I used to crochet but have not done it in a long time. We went to see The Revenant yesterday. I liked it but thought that I could have been at least 30 minutes shorter.

Hi to Judy!

Josie

Josie good luck on the bathroom. there are so many great materials to use now compared to 20 years ago. Our master bathroom turned out great and very functional besides, and easier to keep neat. When we did this house 25 years ago, I used the dominant color of the time. I wanted to avoid the awfulness of harvest gold and avocado green, which I did, but no matter what you pick, it goes out of style. I used neutral tones as much as I could. but the definition of "neutral" changes! We had an almond colored acrylic Jacuzzi tub that looked surprisingly pinkish up against current colors. we had it resurfaced to an off white and avoided the expense of replacing something we don't use often. We painted my office and the stairwell to the downstairs yesterday. using a off white. doing the whole house the same. much easier for touch ups and new furnishings. I need new blinds/shades in a couple places but no rush on that. will wait until the carpet is in.

Deb, anything solid that won't slide should help with the side planks. I don't think it makes them easier, but you're more stable and can focus on the core area. I hear you about the walls being inaccessible!

had a busy day moving furniture, painting, so I did therapy exercises only, but that was OK. lots of upper body work with painting.

Hopefully you all avoided the blizzard? what a mess.
Deb, every time we get a power out, our tub resets to standard from economy so we have to change it back. uses a lot less power on economy, if their tub has such a setting. Draining it and turning it off for the season uses even less. we leave ours off all summer as we don't ever use it then.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did TTM with the shoulders premix (64:39). I still have trouble lifting my leg but I did a few.

Josie, I totally agree that we could have had 30 min. less of Glass crawling, grunting, and hallucinating. Films just seem to be getting longer and longer and the directors are self-indulgent about the editing, as if they can't let go of their work. I'm sure you could learn to knit. There are so many videos now online that whenever I have an issue, I just google it.

Deb, if you go to Voguepatterns.com you can find pattern number 9161 by Marcy Tilton. I loved Judy Garland. I bet that was fun.

Valerie, we didn't get any snow at all. Just very cold temps.

Off to see Brooklyn this afternoon.

Go Pats!! I know where my DH will be.

Good morning,

A nice quiet weekend. No Snow here. NYC and the rest are having more snow than ever before....DC is closed down again today. Sorry the Pats didn't win for those that are fans.

Yesterday I did the Muscle Meltdown/Blast premix for Chest. That was tough. I started with 12's, had to drop down to 10's, and at the end could not do the pushups, even on my knees.

Josie, we must have had the same decorator in our houses...when we moved in we also had that pink bathroom, including pink ceramic tiles up to the ceiling, tub, sink toilet, and floor! So exciting to have a remodel! Have you picked out what you want?

Valerie, it sounds like you are going to enjoy the new carpets and paint. Thanks, I will let my niece know about the setting so she can check hers out.

Lynda, funny now we can Google when we have a question on anything.....like knitting, or crochet...I have an old knitting/Crochet book that I got in the 70's that describes every stitch imaginable, with pictures and how to do it. I loved that book! I guess now all I would need to do is Google....*sighs*...I did a lot of Googling when I made that school quilt when I first retired...I had forgotten so much. I really like to crochet, but there isn't anything I want to make.

Hi to Judy & Lori,

A workout, and class later tonight. I think I am going to make something Indian in the slow cooker today, didn't get to it yesterday.

Take care,

we are on plan for seeing Leonardo crawling and hallucinating thru the snow. then out to dinner with cousin. of all the crummy luck, we have a partly sunny day today and will end up sitting inside. we've had a lot of rain lately and unfortunately we scheduled this indoor day on what's going to be the one decent day. back to rain by tomorrow.
we did a ride yesterday, 15 miles. it wasn't raining and "everyone" was out on the trail making for challenging riding. people with unleashed children and dogs running all over the place. really hazardous for everyone. so 15 miles was enough.

mark us down for the third person with a pink bathroom. I have only myself to blame though, I picked it and loved it at first. the color palate at the time was weighted that way and it was hard to avoid, but I loved dusty rose then. regrets regrets!

Hi Everyone--

This morning I did both Sweat workouts (46 min.). My favorite cardio right now.

Brooklyn was pretty schmaltzy. I think it must be based on some romance fiction loved by women, because there were a lot of women, most of them older than me and they just loved it. For me, it was just okay. Felt like a made-for-Hallmark TV movie. The acting was fine. No violence, one sex scene that is very tame, and only after a marriage proposal. A little bit of ethnic humor with Italian boy's family. Happy ending to a boy gets Irish girl, briefly loses Irish girl when she goes home, then gets Irish girl back when she realizes how small-minded her Irish village was/ still is and heads back to Brooklyn. Charming fluff and a period piece set in the early 1950s.

Valerie, have fun (or maybe a thoughtful time) at the movies, and too bad about losing your one good day.

Deb, I have a couple of knitting books as well, but it's just easier to get a video and watch it while doing what they say. So you are doing the muscle meltdowns and the blasts together? How long is a workout like that?

Sad about the Pats. DH was not happy.

Good evening ladies!

This morning I felt like a Ruthless legs workout followed up with a SB target for hamstrings. Was only about 30 minutes total but was intense and got the job done. No workout with the ladies as everyone seems to be sick.

Deb..is there an actual rotation with the melt downs? When I finish the rotation that I am doing I will do something similar. I would like to incorporate the MM and the Blasts as I have yet to do any of these. Glad you enjoyed Over The Rainbow. I can see how it would get sad. No snow here!! Not one flake! Funny seeing everyone else that as slammed as we are usually the ones buried.

Josie...ha! When one person starts with home improvements then you start looking around thinking.."ya know...." !
I so remember everyone having dusty rose carpets and tubs, etc. Our kitchen is coming along nicely. Very happy we decided to do these changes. I'll check out Mr. Robot when I finish with Dark Shadows. I am on episode 457!! Amazing I am this far along with all my home improvements. I am absolutely loving it.

Valerie...I agree with you how colors go out of style and the "In" thing at the moment. Our home was built in 1964 and every room other than the master bedroom was paneled in a light brown. When my ex and I first bought it we planned to rip it all down. However, we soon discovered it was glued to the sheet rock. We decided to try to paint and see how it looks. Well, surprisingly it looks great. You do not even notice it is paneled. Just kind of blends. Do people still panel now a days? Hope you enjoy the movie.

Lynda...other than the Live RockmSockm I also believe the Low Impact Sweats (when combined) are my favorite right now too! We feel the same way as your DH after the game. So sad. Thanks for the review on Brooklyn. Sounds like I should pass on this one. I should look on Youtube for instructional videos on how to learn to knit. I bet there are a ton. So happy the storm was uneventful for us!

So my little Nilla is now considered a "Painted Lady". After painting all day on Saturday and then starting to clean up Nilla came to me for some loving. When I picked her up I immediatlely felt her fur on the entire right side was all stiff and hard. Well she was covered in gray paint! No clue how this happened. No where could I see smudges either. Thinking it must be behind either the fridge or the stove before I moved them back in place. I tried to wash it out but it is not budging. She actually looks pretty funny.

Hi to Judy!

Hi Everyone,

I started the last week of the ICE Level 1 rotation today. I did Boot Camp Circuit. I liked it, but I had to modify some of the moves. It went fast and I liked the music.

Deb-I looked for a Muscle Meltdown rotation and couldn't find one. It sounds like a good idea to me. I was planning on starting the Level 2 rotation next week, which has a Muscle Meltdown almost every day.

Josie- Great workouts as usual! You inspired me to do a couple of new indoor bike workouts last week!

Valerie-we didn't get any snow here, but it was very cold all weekend. It was in the 40's today and it felt warm.

Lynda-I really like the Low Impact Sweat workouts too. Brooklyn does sound like a Hallmark TV movie. Something I might have liked 30 years ago, but like Lori, I think I'll pass on it now :)

Lori-My SIL is into knitting. I've never tried it but I would also think youtube videos could be a big help.
That's so cute about Nilla and the paint!

Have a good night!

Judy

Good morning,

Very slushy today, we apparently had rain overnight...as long as it doesn't freeze it will wash away all the lingering snow. Class last night was good, but we got a late start so it didn't end until almost 10:00...

Valerie, how was the movie and dinner? Too bad it was scheduled for the first good weather day you have had. Our pink toilet was an American Standard, "Venetian Rose" and stamped in the inside "1953". I think yours was probably a more recent pink? :LOL...:).

Lynda, I really like the Sweat workouts, never did the combined one though...I need to try that. Right now the rotation I am doing has the cardio built in with the blasts. The premixes that have the Blasts w/Muscle Meltdowns are between 35-40 minutes long. They are the Timesaver #3's on the DVD's There is one for every body part except Legs....the Chiseled Lower Body had its own cardio blasts.

Lori, LOL at Nilla as The Painted Lady...no formal rotation with the Meltdowns etc. I just am doing my own with the Timesaver #3's...and using Chiseled Lower Body for legs. I should have counted the episodes I have watched of Frasier. I am on season 10. I don't think it's anywhere like you have done with Dark Shadows...that was a daily soap if I remember right, so way more episodes filmed each season. I don't think people panel nowadays. The finished part of our basement is paneled in knotty pine. We left it as is, since it was in good shape and only the basement anyway.

Judy, I saw that the MM's are in the second level rotation, but didn't want to be doing the regular workouts and the MM's on same day. Way too long for me...:). I give you and others a lot of credit for being able to do hour+ workouts each day.

Josie, how is your training going for the ride? When is it again?

A workout, then meeting my friend from work for lunch, and the cable guy is coming this afternoon to check our signals....our phone has been acting up and he said our internet connection could be better too.

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did the Metabolic workout (47:47).

Deb, thanks for the information on those premixes. That sounds like a great timesaver rotation and one part a day is also nice. Deb, Prime has a new series titled Mad Dogs. Have you tried it? Looks like a good cast of male actors.

Lori, as usual, great workouts. Nilla is now, as they said in the Victorian era, a 'ruined' painted lady. DH thinks Manning is no match for the Panthers defense and the quarterback, Cam Newton. I imagine we will still have our mini-party with another couple.

Judy, are you going to do the MMs with whole workouts? The only time I have done that is with TTM and shoulders, but some of the MMs are a bit long. I do some mods on the Bootcamp workout as well.

We all want to know what you think of the grunting, crawling, hallucinating Glass, Valerie.

Hi to Josie!

Yesterday ended up being a long day.
I liked the movie, glad we saw it in a theater. I'm not sure about "best" actor, supporting actor, picture. The photography and action sequences were amazing and believable.... so I am sure it will get much deserved awards for cinematography, etc. shooting guns, arrows and combat scenes were very realistic, nothing fake looking. the cast truly must have suffered serious discomfort during the filming! Glass ( in reality) went thru hell. the bear mauling scene... WOW. I have no idea how it was done but it was convincing. I need to re read some things , but some of the events depicted we hadn't read about before. Maybe they were added to spice up the story? Glass had amazing drive, determination, "street smarts", and luck. He should have succumbed to hypothermia dozens of times! I can't imagine being completely submerged in meltwater in a river in winter multiple times. I got cold watching it. I've waded across cold rivers but in much better conditions, and only to my thighs. even that was bad... it was at least 60 air degrees outside, water was probably 40 but I had warm dry clothes to get into. still an ordeal. no question these actors went through some very uncomfortable situations to film this. I do not know how the real people at the time survived cold wet clothing in winter temps.

DH and I have read about Jim Bridger, Glass and Fitzgerald the story seemed a little enhanced for the big screen never read anything about him having a half indian son, and that became a big part of the story. It depicted everyone, both white and Indians as being ruthless and willing to rip each other to pieces. this is more reasonable than films who that overdo the "warm, friendly" Indians & make them kind, benevolent, misunderstood benefactors victimized by the vicious, violent white men. Truth is, both sides were incredibly vicious, Indians as bad as whites by what I've read. we had also read that Glass let Fitzgerald go, did not read about a final "duel" and that Glass then gets off because he'd helped the chief's daughter get away. we haven't read everything there is to find on the subject and there are likely different versions depending on who was recording it.

My only real criticism is ...although we sat way in back, the sound level was overwhelming and the movements on the screen, with the rapid back and forth camera work, especially the early battle scenes in the trees, made me motion sick. I got better as the movie moved along. I didn't think it was too long. we all had trouble understanding anything the Tom Hardy( fitzgerald) character said. I think all the actors were convincing and went thru some hell to make the film, but I'm a little ambivalent about best actor awards for pain and suffering. also I haven't seen any other movie nominees. overall I'm glad we went.

on the way out, cousin tripped and fell on the stairs, injuring an already tender knee. so we had interviews with theater personnel, forms to fill out, and finally went to dinner later than planned. it was not the theater at fault, he either missed a step or his knee gave out, but it was semi dark and hard to see although all the floor directional lighting was on.

therapy this morning went well, I don't go back for two weeks, am getting some improvement but too soon to say if this will be enough. ordered a brace to help it along.

We painted another room today, last room coming up. I think colors cycle around, and what we think looks great in 2015, will look dated in 2020. no way to keep ahead of it. Once "everyone" has "it", the marketplace will go on to something else.

Good evening ladies!

Everyone is still sick at the office so no lunchtime workout. This morning I chose not to do the planned Ice Bootcamp and did SB's most recent Barre Circuit. She does this workout with another woman who uses 2lb ankle weights. So I figured sure I am going to too. Yikes did I feel the burn! I followed this up with her Arms workout and I called it a day.

Judy...I plan to get all the last week of the workouts in. Not sure what I plan to do when I finish. My friend has Hammer and Chisel that I may try out.

Deb...yes DS was a monday thru friday soap. There are 1,245 episodes!!! They are only each 20 minutes long so they go quickly. When I was younger my mom was very much into panel. I think she did the entire house. Very much like what I own now. But like I said once we painted we ended up like it. Gives a country/rustic look.

Valerie...glad you liked the movie. I am looking forward to seeing it with my DH. So sorry about your cousin. Hoping all is well. Glad your PT seems to be going well. What color did you decide to paint? Yup, 5 years from now we will be painting the out dated colors!

Lynda...any better with the windmills or do you skip over or modify? I still completely modify on one side. Lol! Nilla is ruined. Ha!

Hi to Josie!

Lori, cousin said it's better today, but don't know if he had the MRI. hope there aren't any serious spoilers in my comments. I don't think so. It's quite a good movie I think.

Only one room left to paint! one more done today. we did the whole house in "linen". a pleasant off white color.

I remember wood paneling well, my in laws had a wall of it that I wish they HAD painted. could not have looked worse. like having a floor surface on a wall.

Good morning,

I took a rest day yesterday, my knee is bothering me. I think it was from doing the MM Blast the day before on a rug. As much as I like it, I think I am going to pull the area rug out of my workout area, it's too hard to do the kind of cardio that is in the ICE series on carpet.

Time Warner was here for 2+ hours yesterday, because my phone service had gotten so w bad. They actually put in a new cable drop outside, and fixed the phone as well as the internet service. I was amazed at the great service, and gave the guy all "10's" in the phone survey that followed.

Lynda, I watched the trailer for Mad Dogs on Prime. It looks like it could be interesting. I may watch the first episode later on. Are you thinking of watching it?

Valerie, that's awful about your cousin tripping and getting hurt. I guess the theater must have to do all that form stuff for liability reasons. I think if you stick with neutral colors you can avoid painting for a long time. "Linen" sounds like a nice color.

Lori, good workouts! They have a thread over at the Open forum about Hammer & Chisel. Let us know your opinion when you start them.

Hi to Josie & Judy,

My knee is still bothering me so I may skip the workout. Going for facials today with my cousin, maybe lunch afterwards, then class tonight..

Stay warm!

Deb, I'm not adventurous ...off white is easy, goes with everything, simple for touch ups if all is the same color. I have zero decorating skills and that's not changing. it's amazing how many different shades of "white" there are. we keep a paint chip in a file so it's easy to
the theater was very open about it, took pictures etc I'm sure to protect themselves from any liability issues. I remember when theaters used to turn up the lights after the film but they didn't. before restarting, they'd dim things down gradually. guess that doesn't happen any more. I would think that would be safer in these days of everyone looking to sue one another.

Lori I was thinking of Nilla, the painted lady, while I was doing touch ups around the house. Our kitty scent marks numerous wall corners and I end up repainting them every year. he brushes his face against them 8 inches off the ground every time he goes by and it looks brownish after a few months. he is smart enough not to do it while the paint is wet.

first time I've heard anyone say anything good about dealing with a cable company! Ours is Ok... we have ongoing problems with the cable that requires them to do a reset from their office. internet is fine, but land line goes out, no idea for how long.
going to go mt bike this morning before the rain moves in.

I'm taking another run at WW. bought a WW point calculator to calculate points away from the computer. I don't understand how it works . you enter calories, sat fat, sugars, protein and it gives a smart point number. there is no place to enter total fat or carbs. I'm getting very high point values for relatively low calorie dinners. I consider under 400 calories for a dinner main dish "light". am I off base here?

Hi everyone--

This morning I did RS with 1 lb. gloves (48:00).

Deb, I think cable companies must get better because they have a lot of competition in terms of choices in streaming. I think I will look at the pilot for Mad Dogs and see if it makes me want to see more. I watched the pilot for Mozart in the Jungle and really didn't care to watch anymore of that.

Lori, is that SB barre workout on dvd? Man, that sounds tough with the added weights. Actually, I would recommend Spotlight or The Big Short or if The Martian or Bridge of Spies is still around all before The Revenant. I think all 4 of those films are better. There's dialogue for heaven's sake--complicated stories that need to unfold, not just gorgeous cinematography and a grunting, crawling, hallucinating figure. We went to see The Big Short last night and it is really well done. The script is by the same guy who converted his books The Blind Side and Moneyball into film scripts and it is as good as those 2 films, maybe better for its wit. It's about the housing bubble and complicated financial instruments like those credit default swaps. Christian Bale and Steve Carell are absolutely brilliant in this film. Bale is a method-acting chameleon and plays the guy who actually invented these credit default swaps when he figures out what is happening in the housing market with the bundling of subprime mortgages that are sure to fail when the adjustable mortgages come into play. In some ways, the film is terrifying because it reminds us that the banks ultimately didn't fail because we bailed them out but a lot of the film feels like absurdist comedy because it's so much about fraudulent characters smug about what they are doing. There are these little breaks in the story line when a character addresses the audience with an explanation of what some of these financial instruments are and how they work.

Valerie, 400 calories is Spartan for a dinner main dish. I'm glad you liked the film. That bear is all CGI and Inarritu won't tell how he managed to create what looks so frighteningly real. He and his cinematographer are true artists, but I couldn't understand a lot of the dialogue and have no idea why Tom Hardy has been nominated for playing Fitzgerald when you can barely make out more than the gist of what he is saying because of some kind of frontiersman accent. I hope you get to see the four films I mention above because they are really smart, well done narratives, and I think the cinematography in The Martian is equally stunning. I have now seen all the nominated films but one (Room, which I don't think I want to see because it sounds like a nightmare) and EW thinks The Revenant will probably win. I appreciate the hardship of the film crew and actors, but I would probably vote for one of the ones above. There is no disputing taste.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Good evening ladies!

I slept horrible last night. Not sure why but just kept waking up. Needless to say no workout at all today. Came home and I feel beat up.

Deb...oh no!! Not your knee! Hope all is better by the time you read this. I agree with the carpet. When I workout on carpet I usually always modify any twisting/turning move. Awesome service with Time Warner. I have also always had good service with our cable company. No complaints at all. I have no plans to do a Hammer & Chisel rotation but may throw in a workout here and there. I'll check out that thread.

Valerie...that's right I remember you said you were going neutral with the paint. We did the opposite. Burgundy, a golden tan, olive green and gray. We will be one of those people repainting in a few years. It all seems to blend well at the moment. Funny about your kitty. :) So glad your cousin's knee is feeling better. 400 is a light meal in my book. Good luck with WW this time.

Lynda...I would love to see Bridge of Spies. We have a theater close by that plays movies that have been out for a while. Not the most current but current enough if this makes sense. I am hesitant to see Spotlight after seeing an interview with one of the people represented in the movie and he was very upset that he was mis represented. Thanks for review on The Big Short. My DH really wants to see this now that I read your review to him! That SB workout is not on DVD. It was her most recent streaming workout she posted. Not sure if you are aware she has a new DVD coming out. I was not planning to buy any of her new dvds, as I always like her streaming workouts better, HOWEVER...her new one sounds great. Dammit!!!

Hi to Judy and Josie!

checking back in briefly. we did the planned mt bike. only 75 minutes but we beat the rain. it's been a couple weeks since we rode, and I had noticeably better function from my right side hams /glutes. I went uphill stronger than I ever have, and this is a place we've done many times. 1200 foot gain in 2-3 or so miles. we can't do trails right now, just roads, because those are the house rules in winter. I felt much more engagement! I am feeling more hopeful. I'm not ready to throw in the towel and become a lounge lizard.
Lori I love those colors. I 'm too unsure to do them myself so stick with off white.

Lynda, makes me feel better that it wasn't my hearing at fault, Fitzgerald was unintelligible 90% of the time. Kept wishing for subtitles. No question these were good performances but somehow enduring extreme discomfort should not lead to best actor awards. Not sure I will get to see the other movies before the AA, not likely. Spotlight would be first, then The Big Short. but probably won't until out on disk.

several theaters here like that Lori, first run pics, but just a bit after the first round of showings. usually not as crowded too. Cats scent mark everything. we can't smell it, but other cats can.

I'm not pleased with WW . dinners that are under 400 cal but comprised of non meat items, like quinoa, beans, lentils, all end up costing 12 points. with only 30 points all day, I can't get anywhere near enough to eat. Meats are less but I don't want to eat that way.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did Low Impact Sweat 1 and Metabolic Total Body. Today my workout was 2+ hours of HouseMax.
We went out Brann's Steak House for dinner tonight. I had a small sirloin and baked potato. I only had a little of the
sirloin and gave DH the rest. It was a little too salty for me. Next time I will ask them to hold the seasoning. It was nice
to get out.

Deb-I hope your knee is ok. That's great about your phone company. We've had the same experience with AT&T. We called them about our internet connection being slow and someone came out, found the problem, gave us new equipment, and everything has been great since.

Valerie-I'm sorry about your cousin's fall. I hope he is ok. I would consider under 400 calories for a main dish to be very light. Does WW let you add extra calories or points for activity?

Lynda-yes, the ICE level 2 rotation has the MMs with a regular ICE workout. It has you do all 5 MMs every week. So far, I think that is what I will be doing, but I might modify and switch things around a little depending on the results I get.

Lori-I'll be curious to see how you like Hammer and Chisel. I've heard mixed reviews of it on Facebook. I think I might do a Body Beast workout this week for something different. I will finish up the last week of the ICE rotation too. I'm sorry you didn't sleep well last night. I know how that feels.

Hi to Josie!
