Good morning,

Just getting us started. The plan is to do KCM Shape Up this morning.

Will be back in a bit.

Hey,

I'm back. I just finished KCM's Shape Up workout #1. This is a tougher one, with 20 second Tabata's alternating with weight work. I sub some of the impact which is very easy with her moves.

We saw the play "Proof" yesterday, it was pretty good. I guess it won a Pulitzer prize.

Lori, glad you like the KCM....I always worry when I recommend something that I think people will like as much as I do, that they won't like it. Out of the 2 newer ones, I think I like Trim Down better, but they both are good, just different. Did you get Shape Up too? You're welcome on the worksheets...I have more spreadsheets, some may be repetitive though...Let me know if you want any more.

Anyone else want the Flex Train one, let me know.

Valerie, it does sound like you are allergic to nickel....it happens to you no matter how high a gold content in the metal? Like 18 carat gold too?

Judy, keeping all digits crossed that Echo is just a petite little kitty!

Josie, great workout and you are doing well in your training for the Big Ride! ( in June right?)

Lynda, how are you with the Murad Essential C? You haven't ordered in a while. I love that stuff but find it hard to work into a routine...before moisturizer? alone at night? before makeup etc. How do you use it?

HouseMax for me today...it's very cold out, not eager to go out there but need some groceries for the week.

Take care,

Good Morning,

It's going to be very cold here this week, another arctic blast is coming. I'm just getting ready to do Muscle Endurance. I might do a double like Josie did and add a Spinerval later too. It's going to be a hectic week with SIL coming, the next memory assessment for FIL, visits to assisted living place(s) and possibly another doctor appt for FIL.

DH and I are taking him to dinner tomorrow to try to talk him into visiting an assisted living place next week with SIL. He is not very responsive so this won't be easy. I wish I didn't have to be involved but DH needs my support. In any case, it will be challenging to get workouts in this week so I need to take advantage of any free time that I can find.

Right now I am praying that FIL will move to assisted living sooner rather than later. I don't know how much longer we can support him in his house and it is starting to cause friction between SIL and DH. SIL is much pushier and aggressive than DH. I think she wants to get FIL declared incompetent and force him out of his house. DH says he will never speak to her again if she does that and FIL has already threatened to disown her.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK with 1 lb. gloves (55:16).

Deb, I just can't use the essential-C during the winter because my skin gets too dry. I will want some for the summer though when my skin gets oilier. I use it under a BB cream with sunscreen. I think I know Flextrain by heart, but thanks for the offer on the spreadsheet. Is "Proof" the play about the nuns and priest suspected of molestation? If it is, it was made into a film with Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Very powerful!

Judy, that sounds like a very difficult situation. On the one hand, I'm sure you would like your SIL to be more involved in decision-making; on the other, she may make your FIL's transition much, much harder.

Valerie, glad you saw Gravity in a theater. It is a stunning film for its visual effects, but I don't get all the hoopla about the acting or the story. I loved Tina Fey's joke about Clooney--he would rather float away in space than spend another minute with a woman his age.

The only excitement around here is the football game. Go PATS!!!!

Judy good luck with Echo at the vet. hope she's just a dainty kitty who isn't a big eater. family things are hard... never seems like you can get everyone on the same page even if the everyone's intentions are good. sounds like there's no question the FIL needs to be in a care facility of some kind, best is a place convenient for family to visit regularly especially while he adjusts. It must be an awfully hard choice for anyone to make. maybe don't act like he has a choice? just which one he likes best, place A, B, or C?

Josie, thanks, we were looking at the smoke plume on the weather map. it was right where we'd be for half the time. fresno has air quality issues too. mostly, though, the driving route is foggy with freezing fog in southern OR and northern CA. we don't NEED to go this week so it makes sense to delay until conditions are better. rain is one thing but freezing fog is a whole different animal!

Deb, I have 'good "jewelry" & cheapies and they all itch and burn. even necklaces can turn my chest blackish if they're on bare skin. I minimize contact and am done with it. even my watch has a fabric band and stainless watch.

I did 40 min on the treadmill, 80 knee pushups..next time will be 2 sets of 50. pull up attempts and core 1.

we're going on a shorter more local trip with a less challenging drive so will be gone for a few days.

ETA Lynda I knew enough about Gravity to get the joke but DH didn't. I didn't "get" the acting nomination. She was appropriate, decent in the part, and she is certainly in shape without an extra ounce of fat, but I don't see that getting a best actress nomination. I guess I shouldn't talk until I've seen the other nominees in their roles .

Nothing will make anyone dig in their heels to resist more than trying to force him into something he's afraid of. hope the SIL backs off.

I agree Lynda, I think she is going to make things much harder for FIL :( Especially if she tries to subject him to being physically removed from his house against his will. I feel so bad for him right now. The gentle, loving approach that DH uses with his father has gotten some results and I believe it would also work for easing his move into assisted living. Unfortunately it looks like he may be dragged into a new living arrangement kicking and screaming.

Apparently she has already talked to a real estate agent about selling his house:(

Good evening ladies!

Just watched the Pats lose. Oh well. We never thought they would make it this far so still very proud.

Today I did MMA Boxing completely on the heavy bag follow up with the bonus heavy bag workout. What a great workout. I bought the MMA workouts when they came out but never enjoyed them. So they have collected dust. I read that someone uses the heavy bag with these and all kickbox workouts. Thought I'd give it a try and it was amazing. So glad I never got rid of these workouts. They feel like a completely different workout now.

Deb...I have KCM's Shape Up. I have only done the first workout and really like it. Going to try Workout 2 in the morning. You like Trim Down better? I'll check that one out on collage. Thanks on the spreadsheets. i'll check to see what I could use. I have not seen anything about "proof". By Lynda's description it does sound very powerful.

Judy...sounds like you are in such a difficult place with your FIL. I hope it works out well. It is sad when siblings disagree like this.

Valerie...funny you should mention the other day about hanging from the pullup bar and bending elbows as much as you can. I just read an article yesterday that even doing this greatly benefits you so keep it up!!

Lynda...agree with you about Tina Fey's jock about Clooney. It was great!!

Ok....going to make you all laugh....I still have my xmas tree up. I have moved it from the living room and have it our little family room off to the side of the house. Last year I think it was February before I dismantled it. If you knew me well you would know that I am really slow about this. I have a girlfriend who is the same and every week we ask eachother if we have taken it down and every week we say nope not yet.

Hi to Josie!

Have a great night!

Valerie-I think we posted at the same time this afternoon and I didn't see your post until now. Thanks for the thoughts. I hope this week isn't going to be as stressful as I think it is with FIL and hopefully all will be well with Echo too.

Lori-that's funny about the Christmas tree :)

Good morning,

I just finished a new MP3 workout, "Walk Fit" volume 2. Not bad, I didn't finish the second challenge, at the 38 minute mark, I had had enough.

Judy, we are getting that same cold blast...it's going down to 4 degrees tonight, with a high of 8 tomorrow. I think your DH's approach with FIL is the better one. Maybe he can get him to agree to visit the place before your SIL steam rolls over him and starts a problem. Hope all turns out well with Echo today.

Lynda, here is the link to the play...it's a different one than the one you thought...
Proof a Play by David Auburn

Valerie, wow, 80 push ups is great...on knees or not! I think you mentioned that you do sets of 40 right?

Lori, LOL about the Christmas tree still being up...I think taking it down can be depressing, so I avoid that by not putting one up in the first place! :)

Josie, have a good ride today if that is part of your day!

Freezing here.....may not take the dogs on their walk this morning...

Stay warm!

we are off for a short trip in a few minutes.

Deb, yes, 2 sets of 40 knee pushups. I lean way forward with my butt down and knees bent, feet up, so they are as close to toe push ups as I can get. ... definitely way easier than on toes though. yesterday I did 2 sets of 50. I eventually want to move up more toe push ups but I'm trying to build endurance by doing 'something" for a long series. I get bigger ROM with these than I do with toe ones. also did core 1 and 35 on the treadmill.

I am so sick of football. now it will be wall to wall until the season is over.

Lori, just leave it up and you'll be all ready for next year...like the stores that have a "devoted to Christmas" section all year.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Lean Legs and Abs (48:33).

Deb, I will have to look it up, but now I think the film was "Doubt." Nice to see you getting back into some workouts. Yep, I'm getting ready for another Arctic blast, starting tomorrow. DH replaced the battery in my Honda CRV which fritzed out on Saturday morning. DH had to recharge the old battery for me until this morning when the auto parts store re-opened. I'm glad to have a new battery with this second onslaught of frigid temps.

Lori, I just started dismantling our tree this morning, so don't feel eccentric. We don't put up our tree until well after Thanksgiving, so we deserve to have it longer. It's still not shedding, so why not enjoy the lights and ornaments awhile longer. It will take me all week to take it down, and then DH takes it out. Yes, too bad about the Pats. DH said they had so many injuries he wasn't surprised.

Judy, I hope this week isn't too difficult for you. I agree with Deb that your DH's way of handling his father is much better--with respect and gentleness.

Have a great trip, Valerie!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did Muscle Endurance and this morning I did 65 minutes of indoor cycling, watching the latest DA episode for most of it. We took Echo to the vet earlier today and everything seems to be good. The vet agrees that Echo is probably just going to be a petite little kitty. We had to take Chino along because he gets separation anxiety and cries if he is left alone. As long as Echo is with him he is ok.

We are going to take FIL to dinner in a little while and try talking to him about visiting the assisted living center on Thursday.

Valerie-80 pushups is really good! I think I'm going to try that.

Thanks for all of your thoughts about the situation with FIL. I'm praying that the family works together to come up with a situation that is best for FIL and also keeps us all on speaking terms.

Judy

Good evening ladies!

Slept in this morning...The evil Sunday night. This week is recovery week from my mishmash p90x routine. Felt like weights tonight so did meso 2 legs. This one you do a tri set three times then move on to the next set. I shortened it by doing each tri set 2 times. Felt like I still got a great workout.

Lynda..afterwards I figured I do a little upper body. Lifted up 20lb weights and did like 2 bicep curls. Not sure what I was thinking when I said I also did 20's when you mentioned using 20lbs. Really thought that is what I left off on...my notes say it is actually 17.5. Boy that extra 2.5 is huge. Good for you! Glad I am not the only one with a tree up. I'll tell you something more about me....our tree is an optical one because our cat kept eating the lights. I do not even undecorate it. It is about 6ft which is not tiny but not at all large. When I feel like bringing it to the basement, I unplug, have my son bring it to the basement all decorated and I wrap a sheet to protect and keep it dust free. This is so bad!!! Putting the tree up takes no effort every year for us! My son just cracks up. When he was little of course we did the traditional decorating. But now I can't be bothered!

Deb...yes good to see you feeling great and working out again. Very cold here. We had about 5 inches of snow on saturday and more to come tomorrow.

Judy...hoping dinner goes well tonight. Glad echo is healthy.

Valerie...have a great trip!

Hi to Josie!!!!

Lori

Good morning,

It's a balmy 7 degrees here this morning. Had a good class last night, even if it lasted until almost 10:00 pm.

Watched the latest DA episode last night. Not too exciting, but they all can't be like the second one was.

Valerie, have fun on your trip, I hope the weather cooperates with what your plans are.

Lynda, you must get a really fresh tree, ( I know you cut it yourself) for it to last this long. That's great.

Judy good news about Echo! Hope your dinner with FIL went ok.

Lori, love your tree method! I don't think we could haul a fully decorated one to the basement without it all falling apart...don't know what an optical one is....17.5 DB's for curls is still amazing!

Hi to Josie,

Work, then home to hibernate.

Stay warm!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did PRS 1 (53:42).

It's 11 degrees here, but it looks like we won't get much snow--most of it is coastal.

Deb, yes, we always go to a tree farm and run around looking at every possible tree until we find one deemed "perfect" by me. DH indulges me because I usually take a LONG time choosing. I caught up with DA because there was no Good Wife this Sunday, just a rerun of an episode I saw earlier. Looks like the whole season is going to be rough for Anna.

Lori, I wish I had 17.5 lb. dumbbells. Maybe I should just load my barbell to 35 and do bicep curls that way. I know I did 35 with meso 3 STS, but not as many reps as in the tris and bis workout with Xtrain. I am almost done packing up our ornaments and garlands, but the lights are still on. That will be DH's work.

Judy, how did dinner go with your FIL?

Hi to Josie and vacationing Valerie!

Good afternoon ladies!

This morning I did Ruthless Lunatic Intervals and tonight I am planning on a heavy bag workout. Going to try out MMA Kickboxing while using the heavy bag. Hoping it works like MMA Boxing did.

For the increments in weights I use 15# then add on 2.5# wrist weights or weighted gloves. I find doing this makes it easier then increasing by 5#'s and still gives me that extra burn.

It was 9 degrees when I left this morning. Looks like a foot of snow coming my way tonight. Tomorrow's commute will be ugly.

I have not watched Sunday's DA yet. Episode 2 was sad and dark like you mentioned Deb. I have been doing my tree method now for about 4 years. We are extremely careful when moving downstairs and it has it's own little spot out of the way.

Hi to Judy, Josie and Valerie!

Hi Ladies,

My ride went well on Sunday, but the rest of the day I was a couch potato :). I decided to take Mondays and Fridays as my rest days. I will be going to a hard core class at 5:30 with my workout partner Claudia and tomorrow will be a spinning class.

Judy, hope everything went well with your FIL.

Hi to Deb, Lori Garance and Valerie!

Josie

Good morning,

Today I did KCM's Shape Up- All weights both workouts premix 32 minutes.

Lynda, did you ever look into Plate Mates? I have those and they actually can make your 15 pound DB's into 17.5. They are really nice, a little pricey, but I thought they were worth it. You have to have the all metal DB's ( no covered ones etc) for them to work. You can go up for each DB in 2.5 pound increments. I think I bought the 1.25 pair ( you have to get 2 pair which is where they "get you" for money. LOL. I also do what Lori does and put on Cathe weighted gloves, which can add up to a pound per hand. Lots cheaper!

Lori, good job on the workouts!

Josie, how often are you training for the ride?

Judy, hope the dinner was ok and FIL did not get upset.

it's 4 degrees right now...brrrrrrr

Work, then agility class tonight...I hope I can get myself back outside after getting home.

Stay warm!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Burn Sets Ch, Ba, Sh (50:43).

Deb, I have all those little add-on weights for the Firm barbell and weighted gloves, so I am reluctant to add any more equipment. I barely use the tower now that I have sold STS. It's 3 degrees here as well. At least we didn't get any of that awful snow. I suspect Lori got hit pretty hard. I have a book suggestion for you. I received "Dog Songs" by Mary Oliver as a Christmas present, and it's just a gorgeous series of poems about the dogs she has owned and known over the years (she is 78 and won the Pulitzer several years ago now). Some of them are very moving; others are funny; and all of them just get dogs' personalities right. There are also illustrations for the various dogs, and one photograph of her with a dog sleeping, sitting up and its head leaning up against the back of a chair. I think it's also a NYTimes bestseller. Really good for dog lovers, of which there are many.

Lori, the tree finally is bereft of lights and ornaments and went out into the snow this morning. Always sad to see it go. I bet you would like "Dog Songs" too. Hope you managed to get home safely yesterday. It looks like Boston really was hit hard.

Hi to Josie, Valerie, and Judy!

Good evening ladies!!

Today was a rest day. I worked the heavy bag hard last night so felt no guilt taking today off!

We actually only received a dusting of snow! When I woke and looked outside I was in disbelief. We are about an hour from Boston west to northwest. The storm was a south coast storm and kind of never made it to me as predicted. It was nice for a change since we are the ones always getting slammed. A few people I work with ended up with 15 inches. Crazy how the path went.

Great job on the tree Lynda. I may think about taking mine down this weekend. Well down to the basement that is. ;). If you ever decided to get rid of your tower let me know as I would buy it. It's Cathe's correct? Just wanted to put it out there as I know you sell on ebay/amazon. Is Dog's Songs on kindle? Sounds like it would be nice to read. I'll look.

Deb...I looked on amazon today for those plate weights. Wow they are expensive! I may just continue with all my little add on weights. Great job on the KCM. So far I have only down workout 1 and I really liked it.

Josie...great job on the ride. Don't blame you on being a couch potato for the remainder of the day.

Have a great night!
