Pentagenarians & beyond: W/B 1/19

Good morning,

Agility class last night, no workout this morning. I am changing a bit, and instead of the Wednesday night class, I am going to the Friday night one. This will let me start doing a workout on Thursday mornings (hopefully). Kylee is not as advanced as the dogs on Wednesday night, so it is a little frustrating for her and me. Friday is more for beginner dogs.

Lynda, I hear you on the extra equipment. I was thinking of going through all my weights ( I think I have 3 sets of BB and DB all together, and maybe giving one of the old sets to my cousin's son who sometimes shows an interest in working out at home. 2 of the sets are the older type, one with the plates that you have to use an allen wrench to tighten the plates etc. The other one has screw on plates, then my Troy one, which I love and would not give away. There are a bunch of people on the Open forum ( and now I read that Lori is interested too!) that want the Tower and apparently they are not making them any more. Not sure how bad shipping would be.. I requested that book from the library, thanks for info on it.

Lori, You really lucked out with the snow....All of our offices on the east coast closed early Tuesday...including Boston. Yes, the PlateMates are very expensive...I used them a lot though so I felt it was easier and cheaper than buying more DB's. I think I like KCM's Trim Down better, but both have their own purpose.

Hi to Josie, Judy, & Valerie,

Work, then home to get warm!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did All Out Low Impact Hiit + core 1 (49:22).

I was lurking over at Videofitness yesterday and noticed a message on Collagevideo sales. I bought Ballet Physique Signature Sculpt for $3.98 + $2.99 shipping, which is a real bargain. I was thinking I would alternate this with Flextrain because it's a total body barre workout. I will use my tower for this, so I guess I'm not ready to sell it yet--and I can't imagine what it would cost to ship it after DH dismantled it.

Lori, that's great that you didn't get all that snow. I spoke to my son, and he says Boston got about 4 inches, but the Cape was really hit.

Deb, that sounds like a good plan for getting in another workout. Have you retired Keegan from agility classes?

Hi to Josie, Valerie, and Judy!

Good afternoon ladies!

This morning I did T25 Speed 3.0. Not sure what I will feel like doing tonight. I am not following the P90X recovery week as this round I prefer to do my own thing to spice this up.

Lynda...good price on the Ballet DVD. The tower would be perfect for this and now you get to put it to use!

Deb..I agree with switching classes. This will certainly build Kylee's confidence. I bet she was so intimated in the other.

It has been soooooo cold here. Yesterday it hurt to go out side and today it was 0 degrees when I left for work. I am ready for the Spring!

Hi to Judy, Valerie and Josie!

Hi Everyone,

Things are going better than expected here. Everyone is still on speaking terms and we all went with FIL to visit the assisted living center. He said he liked it and would consider going there when he is ready. No one is going to force him to move but we are all hoping he will agree to soon. At least we have a place lined up if he has a crisis at some point before he decides to move. It has been a stressful week, more so for DH as he and his sister had to have some long talks and I'm not really sure if everything is resolved but at least everything seems stable for the moment.

Tuesday morning I did a Spinerval, Wednesday morning I did an extended Muscle Endurance, I doubled a few sets so it ended up being almost 90 minutes. Today I did Core Max 1 (no equipment) and a short Spinerval.

Deb & Lori-it is freezing here too! What a cold week to have to get FIL out so much, we've got a wind chill warning until tomorrow night and like you said Lori, it hurts to be outside.

Lynda-I like the Videofitness forum too, but I only lurk, I don't post there. I wrote a couple Spinerval reviews there too, a few years ago.

Hi to Josie & Valerie!

Judy

Good morning and Happy Friday!

Today I did Cardio Coach, Vol 4- 35 minutes. Someone over on MyFitnessPal said that they are going to stop selling the Cardio Coach workouts. Sad. Even though Coach Sean had passed, I think his sister kept the site going and selling the workouts.

Lynda, great that you found that barre workout and for cheap! Also lets you get use out of the tower so a nice find. I take Keegan to the Saturday morning agility class...also going to enter him in trials in April and June ( if he is doing ok).

Lori, we were lucky here in western NY...all the snow missed us, but now they are predicting a blizzard between tonight and tomorrow night...great..

Judy, so glad things turned out ok with your FIL and that he is open to "someday" moving to the assisted living place. What would be good is if they had some kind of program where he could spend some time there, like maybe lunch and the afternoon, where he could do some activities and see how it is...then go home afterwards...kind of "ease him into it, so he doesn't feel a huge change all at once.

Hi to Josie & the traveling Valerie,

Any exciting plans for the weekend?...nothing here, manicure tomorrow, taking my cousin to lunch for her birthday, and hoping not to have to face a blizzard!

edited to add: did anyone read this post on KCM workouts? these sound great!!

Take care,

Good afternoon ladies!

This morning was Ruthless Fast Slow Circuit and that will be it for the day. One of my coworkers is having a get together at her home for the girls. Always a great time.

Deb...Those KCM workouts look awesome. I will definitely preorder both of these when the time comes. Please let me know when we can as I do not want to miss them!

I haven't really followed the weather for this weekend. But I do know we are getting some tomorrow but only a couple of inches. Hope it is not to bad for you Deb.

Judy...glad to hear your FIL seems to be receptive of the idea of assisted living. Deb, that is a great idea about easing into it. If they do not have this type of program they really should.

LOL! I lurk on VF also!!

Taking Chester to the vet tomorrow. Had to cancel last weeks due to all the snow. He seems to be fine and not in any pain but that is what I thought last time we ventured out and he started to limp shortly into our walk. :(

HI to Valerie, Lynda and Josie!

Hi Ladies,

Did not workout yesterday, but went to my hardcore class today. Tomorrow will be spinning and maybe the body pimp class and on Sunday instead of a long ride I'm going to do a double spin class. I don't like the rout that the group is doing, I don't feel safe. It is going from Santa Monica to Malibu on the Pacific Coast highway and there is always a lot of traffic.

Judy, glad that FIL is receptive and that everyone is still talking to each other :). My BIL made all the decisions for my MIL when it was time for her to go to the assisted living home. She needs to be taken care of 100% of the time. He is the oldest male in the family and she lived near him. We are about 3 hours away from the place and try to visit as often as we can. It is very sad to see her because she does not recognize us anymore.

Lori, hope Chester is ok. I'm going to happy hour with my ex-coworkers, another person is leaving because of the witches :). The person that is leaving does everything for them, so now they are going to have to earn their money.

Deb, I have 8 of the original Cardio Coach workouts. I like them very much.

Garance my DD got a job finally at 7 For All Men Kind. I know that you like their jeans. She is part of their marketing and communications department an she will also be helping them with styling when they have photo shoots for upcoming items. She is so happy!

Hi to Valerie!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Flextrain (56:36).

Josie, yes, better safe than sorry on your bike. I don't have 7 for All Mankind jeans, but I have heard of them. I like Not Your Daughter's Jeans. I bet she is pleased to have the job. Hmm--love your typo--a "body pimp" class. Sounds racy!

Judy, that's great that your FIL seems to be moving toward assisted living without being coerced. Maybe he just needs more time to get accustomed to the idea.

Deb, I think we will be getting some kind of "Alberta clipper" coming through tomorrow, but definitely not a blizzard.

Lori, good luck with Chester! How old is he? Maybe the cold makes him a little stiff.

Went to see August: Osage County. I can really understand why Meryl has been nominated again. Just a terrifyingly brilliant performance. She just turns into this awful woman. Julia Roberts is also wonderful and explosive. You just feel like she is holding things in until she can't anymore and then erupts into a full rage. I'd give the film a B+. There is no closure, just a lot of unresolved dysfunctions.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Lynda,

we saw the play August: Osage County at the local theater that we have season's tickets for and I really liked it. I didn't know that it was made into a movie.

Hi Everyone!

Brrr..it is so cold here, and it looks like it's going to stay that way for awhile.

This morning I did Muscle Endurance. Tomorrow will probably be a rest day.

We all must think alike-the first thing I asked on Saturday when DH and I visited the AL center (without FIL) was if they had a "trial program". I thought that would be a perfect way to get him to agree to at least try it out with no strings attached and knowing he could go back home. They do have a "respite" program which is a 2 week minimum stay. That is what we are going to be trying to convince FIL to do. The director of the facility was really good with FIL, she is probably so used to dealing with people who do not want to go there that she seemed to know exactly how to handle him to get the best result. She invited him (and us) to have lunch there in a couple of weeks and she will be having the staff spend time with FIL then to assess his needs.

The result of FIL's assessment with the geriatric doctor this week was that his overall score was the same as last time but his "abstract reasoning and judgment" score was bad. I guess that test score indicates that FIL could make bad decisions. The doctor wants to see him every 2 months now, (it was every 3 months before). I think seeing him more frequently probably means the doctor expects that FIL won't be safe to live alone much longer, although he did say FIL is ok at home for now.

Deb-I've never used Cardio Coach but I'm sorry that Sean died :(

Lori-we are supposed to get 3 inches of snow tonight. I hope Chester is ok :(

Josie-I'm sorry about your MIL, I know that must be heartbreaking for her not to know her family :(
I used to do double spin classes on Saturdays when I went to Golds.

Lynda- your description of August Osage County-"no closure, just a lot of unresolved dysfunctions" sounds a lot like watching DH & SIL & FIL this past week

Hi to Valerie!

Have a great weekend!

Judy

Good morning all,

Not as cold today, ( around 15 or so) but the wind is nasty and it's snowing as well. Class was great last night, Kylee ( and I) need to step back a bit and do more basic stuff so this was a good decision. Also takes away the dread factor from Wednesdays.

Lori, hope all is ok with Chester and maybe just a muscle pull or strain. I'll let you know if /when I see anything on the preorder for the new KCM's. I will start checking her site again. Although there are a lot of KCM fans here and they started posting on the Open forum regularly...it might be there too.

Josie, glad your DD got a job that she seems to like...LOL like Garance...I would want to see this "Body Pimp" class.

Judy, that's great that the assisted living place could give your FIL a short time there....I forgot about the "respite" care. When my uncle was caring for my aunt (24/7 job) he sometimes put her in one of those places for a weekend, or a week to get some down time, and be able to go and do things he needed to get done.

Lynda, I think I may look up the script of that play/movie online...I didn't remember it not having resolutions at the end...

Class was cancelled today, am taking my cousin out to lunch for her birthday.

Take care, and stay warm!
